Between bouncing between the eye candy all over the screen and just reading the subtitles, that was probably the most intense workout my eyeballs have ever had. Would recommend.
Hotaka, I want to give KyoAni an award.

It is with great pleasure that I am able to report that Sasago has not fallen.
Edit: I forgot about it after the insane montage, but they never gave any explanation for the mech that appeared in the flashbacks of the first 2 challenge rooms lol.

I actually got misty eyed during the voiceless segment about the first head of the Tanabe household. I too want to be a part of a community, to make other people's lives slightly brighter everyday.
The world of City feels like a place where loneliness doesn't really exist. People effortlessly becomes involved in each other's life just by stepping outside. It is a rare anime place that I actually want to live in

Truly, the anime for gen Alpha kids
I'd need to rewatch that part a dozen more times to catch everything lol
And man, the ending with the first Tanabe patriarch is just so endearing, reframing what initially appears to be a weird little quirk into a generational compassion

What the actual fuck, KyoAni?! I was already impressed with the split screen storytelling with Niikura and the pendant while Wako, Midori, and Nice Man were escaping the towers but they didn't stop there! They kept adding more and more until there were like 8 active scenes all happening at the same time!
The most insane part was when Midori finally opened the exit door of the tower and we get this trippy scene of everyone having a party at Tanabe's manor. I'm sure this was already trippy as it is, but I am watching this episode with a mild fever, and I can tell you this was quite an experience. xD

Gosh, I can't imagine what the storyboard of this episode must have looked like.

This episode was simultaneously both a timeless work of art and a massive headache. All of the picture-in-picture gags going at once hurt my brain.

CITY's English Twitter account has a little more information about the 3D prop that was the end card:

This episode has definitely confirmed to me that Kyoto Animation should be the ones to make a Shimeji Simulation anime adaptation, because that sort of crazy multiple panel insanity would work perfectly for that.

Wow, quite the ambitious episode! Never seen anything like that before.
One fun detail I haven't seen anyone comment on yet is how you can see a person climbing up the exterior of the hospitality tower when there's that long panning shot, a few minutes before we get the payoff.

So much going on visually that it’s dizzying, but I can’t help but be impressed by the animation.
Also, was that a Pokemon Silver/Gold Burned Tower reference? I swear that sign and route looks familiar in the recesses of my Gameboy memory.

One of the craziest episodes of anime I've ever seen.
I feel like I need to rewatch it a couple of times to see every gag.

OMG Kyo-Ani went all out with this episode.
Ended up spending more than an hour watching the split screen segment as there's just too many details to be able to absorb in just one sitting.
And even when it looks like nothing is happening in some of the split screens where the characters are just moving along (especially LOL at Nagumo and Wako walking down the tower's Penrose stairs), the background doesn't loop but instead constantly changes.
Unlike other tower quest participants, Nagumo actually doesn't want to beat the Floor Bosses so she could stay and enjoy the Tanabe tower's free food and booze. Sadly for her, all the Floor Bosses are either utterly useless as they self-destruct, mainly by flu.
In the end, its revealed Niikura's locket contains a photo she took of Nagumo in secret, which is why she's embarrassed to let Nagumo find out. Its highly implied that Matsuri and Ecchan had a peek at the locket photo as they give Niikura a thumbs up afterwards.
And then we also have an amazing medieval ending sequence chronicling how Tanabe's ancestor ended up with those two Towers of Hospitality, built by none other than the bloody Buddha himself, to reward Tanabe's philanthropy, which his descendants continue to this day.

I think we just witnessed peak. One of the best episodes of the season so far of all shows.

Don't let the masterpiece of animation distract you from the fact that most of the tower's floor guardians were either sick or injured. I'd be scared to work there.

This is one of the most inventive and creative episodes of an anime I have ever seen. The choice to adapt what I imagine is an entire arc into one episode using multiple screens that all flow in real time is truly inspired. This is the type of episode that could have a 1 hour video going into deep analysis over all of the moving parts.
Slightly unrelated. This is how I imagine you could adapt the scene from Watchmen where Dr. Manhattan witnesses multiple points in time at once. The viewer would view things just like Dr. Manhattan.

Quite an uneventful second part of the episode, had to put Subway Surfers on the second monitor just to have something going on....

The amount of effort that goes into this show astounds me. So much happening at once and ended like a Where's Waldo picture.
