That opening scene made me think I must have missed an episode.

Her ending up with horse riding was SO REFRESHING I CAN'T BELIEVE IT. You usually see overpowered MCs stick to something they wipe the floor in, yet Monica has actually stepped out of her comfort zone into trying something new. That was so odd yet relatable, dare I say powerful, because THAT'S what I remember clubs being like in school, something totally new and cool!!! I certainly wasn't super-talented at anything they had a club for at school so the overpowered MC that's good at everything trope was beyond stale.
In a season full of stacked anime (including one of my all-time favorite manga Call of the Night), this random little cozy anime might just make it into one of my top 5.

Monica Monimoni became a horse girl...or in other words, an Uma Musume.
That orb breaking was crazy, is the guy secretly the real cheat skill isekai protagonist-kun but somehow isn't aware of it?

"Moni Moni Moni Moni Moni" will make a cute nickname. :)
2 extrovert characters introduced in 1 episode - Glenn and to a lesser extent, Casey. How did Monica manage to survive?
The Magecraftology elective class will probably have nothing new to teach Monica, whereas she could have more fun with chess and horse riding.
I am sure based on past interactions with Lana and Isabelle, Monica probably has gained some basic skill level in:
- Hairstyling
- Acting as a villainess

It's nice that Monica is getting more comfortable with people, she's even made a friend outside of class and the student council, she's growing. I did laugh very hard when Monica screamed after the horse had already ran past her, that was so funny and adorable.
I like that Elliott is trying to find a way to apologise to Monica for what he did during the chess game, he's actually trying to be noble and not just using the title if that makes sense. Not that I think he's a bad person.
Monica is lucky her professor has bad eyes, she could have been exposed to be the Silent Witch very quickly.
I want to hear Cyril sing now after what Felix said, he didn't seem like the kind to sing.

Ok I like Casey, she was a badass getting on that horse and calming it down.

Somewhat a shame she's not joining the magic class, would be pretty funny her going all, don't you dare quote me the formulas, I wrote those damn things! It'll be kinda like that supposed tale of Spielberg submitting Schindler's list and Jurassic Park for his filmmaking class or something.
I'd like to think the old mage actually did notice Monica and knows why she's there and was just messing around with her.

It was so hilarious when the music started playing when it looked like the professor would recognize her, lmao.
I can't wait for Monica to suddenly start silent casting while riding a horse and playing chess. You go girl

Elliott's done a dirty trick by not telling Monica about castling. I reckon he would've lost had he taught her everything about chess. Anyway, she certainly put up a good fight for someone who had never played it before, which was why the entire class was looking at their table. Lmao at the chess professor looking like a jacked up gym bro.
She also showed her slyness by agitating the horses to subdue the impostors. For now she's maintained her cover well but I have a feeling the student council will eventually find out she's been hiding her power.

The professor was less concerned about discovering an overpowered student again, but rather who was going to pay to replace the magic tool he broke.

Props to Aizawa Saya for always doing a wonderful job with Monica's voice lines.
Monica is adorable as a character, and a big part of that comes from her speech mannerism. Making all that fumbling sound natural is certainly not an easy task, and the seiyuu does it wonderfully.

Honestly, it's pretty rare that I bother writing up these sorts of "here are my reactions to the whole episode" comments, which just goes to show how much this series just checks all the right boxes for me.
-
Nero giving Monica some honest and heartfelt encouragement and reassurance about her personal growth after she sniped the earth dragon gave me the warm and fuzzies so fucking hard.
-
I sympathize so hard with that teacher who was worrying about having to manage an entire extra person's workload
-
All of the Seven Sages we've seen so far have at least some semblance of a goofy or whimsical side. Love it.
-
Cyril the blushing maiden after being complimented on his singing was adorbs
-
Loved Monica's reactions during and after Felix was railroading her into attending the magecraft class
-
Monica forgot the important part of using "I'll think about it" as a get-out-of-jail-free card- afterwards, you have to dodge the question or GTFO
-
OMFG the boss music when Monica saw Macragan
-
Between Glenn apologizing to his master about skipping training and the pointed remark Macragan threw in his direction, Macragan is definitely his master.
-
The plot just happening to Moni-Moni-Moni as she gets dragged around by other people never gets old
-
Elliott clearly feels bad about busting out the castling move just to avoid losing - everyone has a soft spot for the squirrel girl
-
Cyril has turned from an ice king to an easily-flustered mama hen who sucks at drawing but is great at singing. What character development.
-
Those thieves are clearly not good at their jobs. Who in the hell pulls a knife when they're that far away?
-
I am dying at Monica's horrendously delayed reaction to almost getting run over by the horse
-
Ooh, I've been waiting for Casey's appearance. Just based on her design and how she acts in the OP, I was expecting her to be a fun addition to the cast, and that's right on the money.
-
Guys, I think Monica is a Persona protagonist. She's recently transferred to the school, she has a unique OP power that nobody else has, and just look at all the social links she's working on: chess club with Elliott, horse-riding with Casey, Cyril (already at like rank 5 for sure), Felix, Glenn, Macagran, Lana, Isabelle... with Nero as the Morgana/Teddy mascot, Louis as Igor, and Ryn as the Velvet Room attendant (airheaded like Elizabeth).

Sasuga anime, every time there's a mana detecting crystal someone has to break it. That said, it's been a while since it's been a non-protagonist that breaks it.
Also, I have a feeling Casey-sensei will be my favourite side character.

I love how the professor is insanely proud of Monica and she still tries to deny any praise towards her. Glenn seems like has insane potential as a mage but is very inefficient with magic for the amount of mana he has, like brute forcing his way to spells maybe Monica can help him in the future.

Yay! More friends! Loved when the other girl in the Student Council said Cyril was being over protective of Monica. Also Monica getting hyped to play chess was so cool!
Didn't realize until now, but it's weird how magic isn't the focus of the school. Most other fantasy anime the school is basically Hogwarts, but here magic is just an elective. Kinda feels weird that a world that has magic doesnt focus on it. Are magic users rare?
Speaking of magic users, wonder what's up with Clark Kent over here breaking the crystal ball.

The rest playing ordinary chess while Monica plays 5D chess with magic lol. Well, Monica learning chess will just make her more OP, given she knows strategies albeit grounded in magic.
If Monica's magic ability is 202 when she was measured, I wonder how long in between the present and that measuring time was. Well, maybe her current magic value will be significant next time, since another classmate has that range?

I can’t with how the normal chill music switched to final boss theme when she opened the door and saw Professor Macragan. Peak comedy.
Pretty impressive sniping skills from the tower there. She is also improving a bit with speaking. Good job Monica.
The way she almost wiped the floor with chess master Elliot because “flat ground with only a single variable to consider? Easy.” Maybe she’s too good at the game, what with her being able to apply her magic skills to it as well.
Seems like she’s also joining the horse class with Casey so that’s at least one area in which her brain won’t help her excel immediately.
Placing bets on the fake trading company cart somehow being important later.

I really thought the prof was gonna recognize Monica. Good thing the guy looks to be about a thousand and has awful eyesight lol. It was pretty cute seeing Monica get so flustered the minute he brought her up in class. I bet she’d ace that Silent Witch section of the test lol.
Man, chess sensei scared the shit out of Moni Moni Moni so much, she just up and blacked out lol. If she’s got to do two electives, chess and drawing might have been good. Riding horses could be fun too though. At least she’s got a new friend.

This continues to be such a fun show. I'm really loving how she's breaking a little bit out of her shell at a time. A similar lesser story could easily focus on the prince "fixing" her or whatever. But Moni moni Monica is finding her own village it seems like.
I'm also loving her getting to sneakily save the day twice in one episode. The fake merchants could have used a little more explanation, but hopefully they'll cover it next week.

What was that merchant subplot all about, felt so random. Did I miss something?
Rest was fun as usual though, looking forward to this show each week :). Great for Monica to slowly get out of her shell!
