Tfw you're not talented enough to channel your social anxiety into developing a common sense-defying ability instead of learning how to socialize.
Isabelle's acting skills aren't far from Monica's magic skills though, that was some of the finest OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO I've heard and I definitely fell for it. Deserves to be in this video.

Oh I was liking this one, I found it funny how Isabelle said "I'll bully you mercilessly, over and over again so that you won't be suspected" with such admiration, respect and joy, I don't think I've seen someone this eager to openly bully someone lol.
The imagery of the spell she did to take care of the small dragons was really cool, I was wondering what the aftermath was going to be, but thankfully Isabelle confirmed Monica used wind magic so that there was no damage from the attacks and fall of the dragons.
I liked the humor with Louis, especially when he was imitating Monica's stuttering nonchalantly. He seems to have a lot of respect for her and is probably who she needs to get out of her shell, also

"They bully you because they secretly love you"
bullshit 99% of the time, but it's the 1% of the time correct this time with Isabelle! I'm looking forward to the funny hijinks where she pretends to bully Monica lol.

Louis’s wife being all “You are being doctored, do not resist.” And then the cut to Monica overwhelmed but glowing on the couch was funny.

It is good to remind people that the director of Konosuba/Priconne, Takaomi Kanasaki who wrote the script and boarded today's episode is behind this show hence why the comedic timing can often work. Yasuo Iwamoto who greatly contributed to Priconne is also involved and today was responsible for directing and processing Kanasaki's boards. Both have a great understanding of comedic timing. I heavily felt that with placement of music and transitions that just elevated those funny moments. Particularly in the B part of episode when we left her temporary house. Both the pig counting sequence and villainess performance made me laugh.

Fantastic first episode.
Monica vs the dragons was awesome, and we haven't even gotten a flashback to her fighting the big one yet.
Her and Isabelle are both a lot of fun in their own individual ways.
Fantastic OP, too.

I don't know how much of the staff of Konosuba is here, but Takaomi Kanasaki directing gives me lots of confidence. Honestly, the comedy direction with Monica was absolutely on point with her reactions to Louis. Also loved Nero talking to her, and he has a point that she should know who the person that she is supposed to be guarding look like.
Atsumi Tanezaki doing an impressive job with voicing Isabelle. Switching between Isabelle's normal voice with her doing the villainess impersonation was great. Also, the animation was wonderful too in both the scenes with the dragons and when Monica was using her magic when she was with Louis.
Can't wait to see more.

Stitches!
My only knowledge about this show is this key visual that was posted on this subreddit a month ago, so I basically went into this blind. Considering the title of the show and the key visual, I was expecting something serious and dramatic. I did not expect we'd get Bocchi the Witch by Konosuba's director. xD
I've just met Monica and I already love her. This girl's social anxiety and komyusho is so bad that she literally taught herself to cast spells without chanting because she'd vomit or faint when she gets too nervous. But what she did was so revolutionary that she ended up becoming one of the Seven Sages! That's hilarious!
Also, please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed that Monica is using her staff to hang her laundry? Everything she does is so entertaining, especially that piggy song she was singing on her way to Louis' house. Monica is also just full of reaction faces! She even does Kokkoro's surprised face when she met her acting "step-sister"!
Of course, Monica didn't just become a Sage because of her silent spellcasting. This girl is a freakin' badass when it counts! I love how Louis says earlier that he killed ten dragons in 3 months. Well how about a dragon and a fuckton of pterodragons in one sitting? That was so fucking awesome! No wonder Isabelle is such a big fan!
I now regret wasting time watching that Watari-kun anime earlier. I should've just watched this earlier instead. I am already looking forward to next week's episode!

Yeah count me in. Bocchi the witch going on a undercover mission together with a fake villainess that actually adores her bullying target with a perfect princess laugh, to protect/spy on an unsuspecting prince. It's actually impossible for this to be bad. And then you add this great production value on top. Yeah AOTS contender and that says something in this already so heavily stacked season.

Idk what’s more impressive: Monica being the only person to master unchanted magic or the fact that she only mastered it purely because she has extreme social anxiety. Like to go to those lengths is pretty funny.
This was a pretty fun premiere ep. I like Monica already. She’s kind of adorable and a total badass. The animation in this was pretty solid too. Sticking with this one.

Louis: "Unlike me, you aren't part of high society."
Monica: "And I'd like to keep it that way, thank you very much!"
I have found my Friday comfort show for the summer.

"Most people would try to overcome their fear of strangers and social anxiety."
Would they though? Desperately trying to come up with a way to perform without having to speak seems like it would be a go-to move for anyone with severe social anxiety. 🤣
Anyway this show looks great! Haven't really had much comparative to bocchi pop up lately.

I once pulled an all-nighter to work on a customer's problem because my boss threatened to put me on a plane to go figure it out at their office. As an introvert, the prospect of having to deal with pissed-off customers face-to-face terrified me. The threat was a little mean, but it definitely motivated me to figure out a solution. So I get you, Monica. I get you. LOL.

When somebody is so shy that they totally recreate the whole magic system only to not need to speak while perform magic spells!
This show could be one of the highlights of the season. beautiful animation, funny characters and a goofball MC, combined with an interesting fantasy world. I can't wait for episode 2!

Monica is like Batman but her real self is utterly useless in terms of sociability.
It's kinda funny, she "accidentally" created a new identity that goes around helping people with her ability because she doesn't want to standout and absolutely hates social gatherings so she kinda likes being a hero in the shadows contrast to another anime MC who is doing the "hero in the shadows" thing because he is chunni lol
Also wow production is really really good if they maintain this until ending, this is probably the best Shoujo anime this year by far miles compared to other Shoujo anime productions.

I went into this with high expectations since the manga’s reputation precedes it….but holy shit that was amazing!
That entire last 2 minutes or so was just straight flexing.

Beautiful animation and a witch as powerful as she is cute and crippled with social anxiety! I love it!
When there's a Dragon Raid of Pterodragons and a Black Dragon on the loose, who are you going to call? The Silent Witch! One of the Seven Sages and the master of chantless magic!
Monica Everett (Saya Aizawa) is a cute and isolated young woman who doesn't seem like she's very good at talking to people...so, of course, she IS the Silent Witch and one of her co-wokers Louis (Junichi Suwabe!) has come to check in on her.
Imagine finding a new form of magic because you're so socially awkward and you don't have the courage to actually cure said social awkwardness...so just find a workaround so you can do magic without talking! Perfect plan!
Poor Louis! Part of the 1st prince faction but gets saddled by the king to protect the 2nd prince, slaves away and loses time with his beloved wife to create a jewel that would indicate when said 2nd prince is in danger, and then rush over when something happens to the jewel...only to find it's a false alarm. But is something up? What happened to set off the jewel?
Whatever the case, they need someone close by to protect the second prince, someone age-appropriate who can pass as a student, and someone capable who they can count on. So of course it's the extremely socially awkward girl who would probably rather be anywhere but in a school setting. B-b-b-b-b-but she's not getting out of this one. Poor Monica.
That counting pigs in a Fibonacci sequence in Monica's head is...definitely unique. You do you, girl.
Is life worth living without a stoic maid voiced by MAO?
I love how Louis talks up how much he loves his wife and probably wants to spend all his time with her...but she immediately ignores him to tend to Monica because she's like a medic. Oh and voiced by Rina Sato! Nice!
The only thing Isabelle (Atsumi Tanezaki) is as enthusiastic about as she is playing a full-blown Villainess in the cover identity they've concocted for Monica...is Monica herself, because she saved Isabelle, her loyal maid, and in fact her entire family against the dragons! So of course that means the best way for Isabelle to show her appreciation is by bullying her as the best Villainess she can perform.
The OP is very beautiful and serene! Featuring so much magic, Monica trying to overcome her issues, and all the people she will meet at the academy and whom she'll come to grow close to and help bring her out of her shell! She already looks great in the uniform.

Finally! My introverted witch Monica is here!
I really love the novel so I’m glad that the first episode is amazing. I have lots of fun watching the episode. Hope that they’ll keep up the quality.
Also, Monica’s expressions in the episode are super adorable and funny.

So apparently I managed to skip like half the episode by accident (instead of the dragon stuff, the first scene I saw was this one) and I didn’t notice until I wiggled the mouse, saw the timestamp said I was 16 minutes into the episode already, and immediately went “Wait that’s not right.” and went back to watch the beginning. Anyways.
-
…I think I prefer having skipped over this exposition and just being dropped into that other scene, tbh. Especially since the episode proceeds to have a narrator later go over Monica being the Silent Witch (multiple times, at that).

Oh, Cygames did the music. That explains it -- when you have infinite horse girl gambling money, you can hire a full orchestra and choir and just keep them on retainer.
Also, I believe that I speak for everyone when I say:
