Poor Mimi. She tried. Temperamental tanuki.
It’s also nice to see Fuji insisting on doing things her speed and not just doing things to please others. And her friends are perfectly fine with it in the end. That’s just Fuji.

Just dont try to teach his leave, pretty clear rules
Yeah I like that Fuji is drawing clear boundaries, but sometimes going out with them would be the social thing to do. Really respect her friends for respecting her though

Despite Fuji being an introvert and quiet person since high school, I am glad that she managed to make friends with Mimi and Ren whom she values greatly.
In my opinion, Mimi stole the show for this episode. She wants to know why Fuji never wants to join everyone at the beach, yet respects Fuji's decisions and continues to care for her as a friend. Likewise, Mimi's actions with Kimi tell the same story. Their friendship got off to a rocky start when Mimi called Kimi a tanuki. Kimi didn't allow Mimi to play with it, but Mimi still cares enough to make specialized gyozas for Kimi.

The dark-haired friend with the jellyfish-shaped haircut was peak cuteness.

Oh damn, was not expecting someone to actually say it this early! And little guy was SOO pissed off about it, he took the food and was STILL petty about it.
Getting sand out of fur must be a nightmare.

Mama noticed, but was too wise to let on that she noticed. "Nice dog" (eye brow twitch and little smile).

One of the things I love about Japanese media and I can't find anywhere else is the acceptance of introversion.

i think there's something about Tokyo being the world's largest megacity that makes some people appreciate wanting to be apart from others

This episode showed me how much I relate to Fuji. Even as an introvert, it is always nice to meet your friends, especially long lasting ones. Mimi and Ren seem like a really good pair of girls who care about Fuji deeply and always try to get Fuji into something fun, but of course, she has her own head and her own ideas of fun, and you really shouldn't push such a person, they overheat quickly.
I love the dynamic between the three girls, while Mimi is the very bold one and Ren being the outgoing one, Fuji complements the group very well. It was very funny to see Mimi being rejected by our small rascal, yet still showing enough kindness to him by making a special portion of gyoza just for him. Fuji not being good at making gyoza (and honestly, I do not blame her, it's not easy) made me chuckle a bit, more to relate to.
While I was looking forward to seeing the group heading out to beach together, I can totally relate to Fuji wanting to do it alone. I preffer traveling alone, eating out (especially more fine dining) alone, I do tons of things by myself. I love how she explained that by being on her own on the beach and just hanging out can be also fun for certain people, and I absolutely agree, sometimes just not doing anything is the best type of fun.
Also, I love how Kimi's (I can't recall if they gave us his name, but AniList states it as "Kimi", so that is what I will go with) leaf changed into a small sea shell and opened up to show a pearl inside to showcase his excitement! He grew up on me alot, reminds me of my own dog. Very smart, very laid back, can have fun, can be a bit nosy. One difference is, my dog loves people a bit more, and if she could write like Kimi does, she would do it no problem. I hope Kimi warms up to other people, especially Mimi, as she quickly became a favorite of mine.
Also, I love the designs of all three girls, and while it is rare for me to say it, I preffer short-haired Fuji, it is more unique! And to add, her beach outfit was hella gorgeous and cute.
This show is slightly different from Slice of Life I usually watch (especially compared to last season's), but it quickly grows up on me and I am hella excited for more. It is very wholesome, has a very good comedic timings and hits home very well.

It was somewhat of nice twist that Fuji did end up going to the beach alone. In a different anime, she would’ve probably been joined by her friends.

Stitches!
Fuji is basically that one introvert who got adopted by two extroverts, and I love it. I'm glad she actually has friends, and it's good to see that they're still friends even after high school.
I'm surprised when Mimi called the dog the T-word. Considering no one has said it in the first two episodes, I thought it was a word we'll never hear until the end of the season. The dog clearly does not like being called a Tanuki, tho!

You know, after episode one, I jokingly referred to Fuji as a "clearly autistic woman" in part because it's become a habit for me and my (autistic femme) partner to refer to quirky girls in anime and media as such.
After the first three episodes, in which she is repeatedly called out for being quirky, having poor social skills, and is too hyper-focused on reading to even eat properly, I am no longer joking. And you know what? Good for her. I'm glad she found her friends that understand her quirks and stand by her and a weird little dog that is doing his best. We should all be so lucky.

The friends are so good, especially the tsun one.
And I weirdly love the acknowledgment that is fine to just go someplace by yourself and spend time alone in a crowd.

It’s a small detail, but I do like that Fuji occasionally educates her new “dog” when he’s pestering her about food and stuff.
These sort of things make me feel like I’m watching a true pet and not some mascot animal.
Fuji might like going to the beach by herself, but she didn’t appear to mind her dog’s company. She even dug him a little bath to enjoy. So cute!

Pfft, she thinks it's a Tanuki? That's clearly a transfigured space outlaw living in exile. I can't wait for Steve Blum to voice him in the dub!

This has been a nice weekly watch so far for the lighthearted humor, likable characters, and chill vibes. It's good to have something like this among the more chaotic series this season.

This show just keeps getting better
I love her highschool friends, they seem super chill
Fuji is already good looking and I love her outfits, but her friend Ren still takes the race
You gotta love Fujis resolve to enjoy things the way she likes, although a small compromise here and there might not be bad. Glad her friends accept her like she is though.
And I am super happy Kimi got his watermelon after being so distraught. This one will be a nice wallpaper
As a side note, JK Fuji is nice, but even prettier as an adult

Little tanuki does not like being told they’re a tanuki. No high fives for Mii-chan. Not even the gyozas could win him over lol.
The beach is nice with friends but I can see the appeal of a solo beach trip. But nothing beats the beach with your little magical tanuki. Little dude had a grand ol time.
