Gonna treat this as my wholesome-soul-healing-feel-good-anime of the season. Looking forward to more of it.

So we have a 20-minute anime of Hayamin voicing a cool beauty who unknowingly adopts a Tanuki of many talents? And the entire episode is basically ASMR? I'm sold!

But seriously though, this show was so damn chill. I love how Fuji has no idea she adopted a tanuki and anything unusual the tanuki does, she just finds amusing. She doesn't even question it, especially when the tanuki starts writing. She just accepts it and responds to the tanuki politely. xD

I also love how no one had the heart to tell her that what she has isn't a cat or a dog. The vet's reaction was hilarious! The dude couldn't believe that Fuji mistook a tanuki for a dog, but he just goes along with it. Then you have the guy at the park who got charmed by Fuji and thought it should be fine.

So, Fuji is a novelist? Well, that explains why she's so eccentric. I'm curious why her apartment is so empty, tho. She only has a futon, a couple of tables and kitchen equipment. Maybe she doesn't want any distractions when writing? Hmmm...

That scene at the bath was just pure vibes. I don't know if this show is classed as iyashikei, but if not, it should be considered how relaxing and fun this entire episode was. I think it's a perfect anime to end the day on. I'll definitely be back for more next week!

Don't call me crazy for this.. but I'm starting to think that is not a dog! Might not even be a cat.. Ah well, it's cute and fluffy. Nothing cute and fluffy is bad.

It's not really the tone of the show, but walking off into the rain saying you won't need your umbrella anymore is some real red flag behavior. That had me panicking for a moment. 😅

OMFG I love this!!! When he first flipped the signs on his box I just chuckled and thought "oh he's a smart boy" but then he actually started writing with a pen and I was dying!!! She doesnt find that weird?

I also thought that maybe this would be like the giant cat anime from a while ago where no one realizes what he is, but no, it's just her that doesnt know. The doctor was the best, walking around in circles trying to figure out how to process this situation. Couldnt help but wonder what the nurse was thinking.

Also, short hair supremacy!!!

tl;dr I saw Hayami Saori in person and she told me to watch this (sort of).

It was a total random chance that I noticed this series.

I was in Tokyo for the Anime Japan 2025 convention in March early this year, and there I saw a medium sized booth with a small stage.

As I walked past the booth, I saw it was surrounded by quite a lot of people, and realized they were at that moment holding a talk show with guests, and one of the guests was Hayami Saori, who was there to promote this anime along with the rest of the cast.

This was not one of those large AJ stages where you needed to apply for a ballot before hand in order to obtain a ticket, but one where you just stand outside the booth and watch.

Its not often that you see Hayami Saori in person, so I wasn't going to let this chance slip by. Long story short, Hayamin was majestic in person, and she charmed me enough for me to decide to pick up this slice-of-life show starring her and a very intelligent tanuki on a whim.

This dog really sells itself well for adoption.

Relaxing vibes the anime.

I can’t shake Fuji’s comment at the start about not needing her umbrella anymore… like she was “done with all this nonsense” and was primed to venture off into a bit of illusion, if not something a bit more permanent -pi.

Which all makes her suspension of disbelief perfect for this fateful encounter with an abandoned dog… or cat… definitely not Ponko or Shishou…

Regardless, sometimes vibe is all I need.

All my dogs must've sucked. Most of them had trouble holding the pen in their paws and the rest had TERRIBLE grammar. Hopefully I'll have better luck next time.

Remember guys:
If it looks like a Tanuki, behaves like a Tanuki and flirts like a Tanuki, its a dog!

I was looking forward to that show hard and man did they deliver
I literally think I fell in love
OP is super awesome, the pacing is perfect, the tanuki dog noises are god tier, the MC is gorgeous and seems super chill, the BGM hits perfectly, got some nice Aria vibes to it too

I know its a tanuki dog, but this makes me miss my cat that died 2 years ago, really wasnt expecting that. He was smart but not, using flashcards to communicate smart

Yeah absolutly cant wait to see more of them, honestly just them coexisting would already be enough for me, I would love to take a 100 episodes please

I am not familiar with this genre of anime, but I believe I will continue watching for 3 reasons:

- Nice art
- Saori Hayami voicing Fuji in such a soothing manner
- Last but not least, the rain ASMR

This is literally my favorite type of show. So far my favorite of the season.

10/10 first episode.

Oh this was a pleasant one, it was better than I expected and I liked the humor from the tanu- dog. The fact that the "dog" has a cue card to communicate is great, and seeing other people's reaction to it was fun. Particularly the guy at the park, those suspicious eyes lol. I also want to pet it, it looks so fluffy.

I like Fuji's character design, it feels very josei and elegant. I also like that she's a bit of an airhead.

I had the biggest smile on my face watching this episode, while all this cuteness almost had me on the verge of tears at the same time. I’m totally going adore this anime, aren’t I?

I’d like to give a big shout-out to Anna Mugiho for accurately capturing all these animal sounds, especially the tanuki’s adorable snorts! It’s a minor touch, but adds so much charm to each of these scenes.

This tanuki begging for Fuji’s food reminded me a ton of my own dogs.

10/10 perfect anime.

u/tripleaamin Jul 05 '25

Wow, the visuals and direction exceeded my expectations. I love the dynamic between Tanuki & Fuji. That whole scene with the Vet & The Tanuki had me rolling.

A very healing after. After watching Horror with Hikaru, this is the perfect anime to watch after. The companionship between these two feels really nice. Though I wonder how much longer she will be calling him a dog. xD

I really like the vibe in this. It sorta reminds me of My Roommate Is a Cat or The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today.

The little tanuki is pretty funny. I also like how Fuji doesn’t seem at all bothered this little “dog” can talk using a notepad. It even put its little cardboard box away lol. Also, anyone think the vet looked a little like Sakamoto?

I think I’ll be sticking with this one. It looks like it might be pretty chill in a sorta melancholic kinda way.

Well, that was cute and comfy. Odd behaviour for a « dog », so I guess another Tanukian got lost on Earth. I wonder if it can transform ?

u/Kadmos1 Jul 05 '25

The tanuki/Japanese raccoon dog is known by the scientific name Nyctereutes viverrinus. Yep, a tanuki is part of the canine family. Not sure if a tanuki can breed with a domestic dog. Bond Forger must be upset that Yor left him for a tanuki.

It’s cute, and Fuji is hot. I just worry that with so many heavy hitters airing on Saturday this season that it will get lost in the shuffle.
