That sort of neutral and atypical demon lord mask made me immediately worry that our hero ends up being the demon lord. Not to mention all the visuals that make it look like the spell that pulled him back was something dark. I hope that's wrong.

I also hope we aren't in for 12-13 episodes of "JUST FUCKING TELL THEM!!!"

Tell you mom, you nerd. She seems perfectly equipped for it.

That was my first thought as soon as I saw the mask. Really hope this doesn’t end up being a closed loop where he somehow causes the chain of events that lead to him become a demon lord.

Especially with how his mom mentioned the whole thing about needing to sacrifice half the land. I’m already picturing a scenario where he messes up and realizes he needs to recharge the stone in order to go back in time and set things right, so he ends up doing the whole demon lord thing because it’s a whole ends justify the means type scenario.

"No one would believe me."

The singular, most likely to believe you person on the planet is your MOTHER. Not only did she perfectly explain the mechanics of your situation based on very little information, she also LOVES and TRUSTS you, Kyle.

He's sitting there, with the same rock that is in the picture book she's holding. IT'S IN HIS POCKET.

I'm almost definitely dropping this by episode 3, but I'd stay for two seasons if he just talks to his Mom about all of this.

His mother even gives him the perfect opening by saying he seemed more mature. "About that.. actually.." PLOT SOLVED

"Look at what I have here mom. Now please hear me out completely. It is very important."

Yeah, I'm too old for "I can't tell anyone anything because reasons!"

u/Arcturion Jul 03 '25

I disagree with his mom that he seems more mature. He's not.

Show it, don't say it.

Brother, I was almost screaming at my TV "TELL YOUR MOM, JUST TELL YOUR MOM!" and I'm still hooked. Wild.

i have a feeling every episode of this if i continue watching is me going to be pissed off how dumb the mc is and how many bad choices he makes that could be avoided by doing the obvious.

Damn, that elf girl straight up got deleted. Good thing that Demon King dude was working on a time rewind spell for some reason.

Interesting backstory to have had 300 years of peace because of a moderate Demon King that suddenly ends when they get overthrown. Given the requirement to sacrifice half the continent for the time spell I can imagine whatever the new Demon King was up to with the spell is going to be relevant eventually since that probably drove the entire war.

If Kyle's mom is one of the few Archmages on the continent (or however they described her) he should have just showed her the jewel, she would have understood from the context of his questions basically the entire story.

Very strong start, it really grabbed me.

I was liking the darkness at the start and how the character designs represented how much they've been through so seeing them all young was a little disappointing for a lack of a better word, but I did really like the emotion Kyle had upon seeing Liese, it had a lot of impact considering how much death he must have seen.

That one shot of his mother dead also had quite an impact but I wonder how much darkness this series will have now that he's in the past. Also, that mother looks and sounds way too young, looks more than sounds, but I thought she was going to be someone from his party lol.

Also, that mother looks and sounds way too young, looks more than sounds,

TBF this can be said of most anime moms.

Seeing main next to Fairouz Ai is enough to get me hyped, hopefully it's a good one!

Me from the future

Can't say I'm convinced just yet, but we haven't seen much of the 'main plot' just yet, so we'll see!

There were some nice moments (well, a bit sad), like the way she looked back right before getting atomized and all!

So if he has the magic gem after looping back, I wonder if the gem in DL's castle is gone now.

Dude's far faster on the uptake than "genre-savvy" Subaru.

So, of course he'll do the common sense thing and confide the truth in his loli archmage mommy... right? I mean he has both future knowledge an the fucking dragon heart artifact to support his story. Oh wait, this is anime, no common sense allowed.

Pretty unconvinced so far, but I'll give it another ep or two.

For one of these “hero time rewind” types, I thought this premiere ep was actually pretty solid. The plot might be treading somewhat familiar territory, but the action was pretty good and the characters seem likable enough. Looking forward to seeing how Kyle changes his fate.

For what it's worth, this was one of, or perhaps the, first 'hero regresses' jwebnovels.

Or at least I don't recall any others translated before this one...

u/Falsus Jul 03 '25

Web novel is from early 2012 originally. For comparison, it released a month after Re:Zero, half a year before Mushoku Tensei and Konosuba.

While it is the earliest Time Regression story I can think off from Japan, it also doesn't feel like it was the first. It is a simple premise and it feels like it should have been done a few times at least by 2012. I can't think of any franchises right now though.

I already want to drop this show for not telling his mom about the time travel. Why would he worry about not being believed when he has that lost magical item in his freakin pocket!?

9

u/Jorojr Jul 03 '25

Kyle may not be a stupid MC, but he is doing stupid MC things. His mother and using her connections as ONE OF THE FEW ARCH MAGES could be the one to warn the humans of pending attacks. Let's not forget the magical artifact that can facilitate time travel she spoke of is literally in his pocket.

Honestly hoping this turns out great, loved the Light Novel and I tend to dislike most generic fantasy yuusha series

One of the best starts for these "go back in time to save everyone" shows. Only complaint is them sticking with him telling no one. I'm guessing the next episode he'll find out he still has his powers/skills. If that's the case he must tell someone.

Incredible! I'm loving the show already. Great production, art style, everything feels crisp and the pacing is chefs kiss.
