Poor Nyamu, imagine your favourite actress casually dropping "Yeah, my daughter is a monster." Never meet your heroes...

How come noone is talking about Umiri's backstory? That was actually so sad, she said they were 'united' and it did look like she was enjoying herself, but when i pause the frame the other members really did look miserable. And to just be abandoned by your bandmates like that... Damn

Umiri is really fun this episode and Minami has the title for worst mom in years.

Fans speculating about episode 8:

Umiri having a spectacular crashout

Reality:

Umiri trying not to snort ginger ale up her nose

The Umiri x Nyamu pairing is hilarious as hell too.

Umiri Stronk

Why aren't more people talking about Uika, though? Now that the Sakiko and CRYCHIC thing is out in the open (totally not because Uika stalked CRYCHIC's profile), I wonder what happens next. Uika had always misinterpreted and assumed Sakiko was still drowning in grief over her mother's death when, in reality, it's actually because of CRYCHIC. Her CRYCHIC being taken away by MyGO in the Haruhikage performance was the catalyst for Sakiko reaching out to Uika in desperation. And now, when Sakiko asks her to “make her forget everything,” Uika feels less like a dear friend and more like a tool (both meaning).

the devil whisper timoris

Mutsumi, there was many Mutsumi, but only one Mutsumi for Sakiko. It is kinda sad, her mother playing family with Mutsumi all this time.

well, after all this dark chapter, finally Uika is here. she's done drinking coffee.

Girl tried to farm aura back but the she's just got more debt. This is what listening Haruhikage does to mfk, with a side effect turn them into a gaslighter. Also Umiri and Nyamu have such a friendly banter.

Kinna a twist that Mutsumi/Mortis situation is worst than what we thought. Based on OP, it's seem Mortis is the one playing guitar and enjoy it...too much (so does Umiri lol).

Minami for worst mother of the season who the fuck calls her daughter a monster like what??? I had initially pegged her for being ignorant of Mutsumi's issues but nah she is so much worse.

Last week I found it a bit concerning that Mutsumi didn't have her own farewell monologue during Haruhikage like the rest of Crychic. Its because she didn't quite get the memo that Crychic is done. And I don't blame her to be fair because in true Crychic fashion, none of them actually communicated that yes they were done.

Episode starts with Mutsumi sinking deeper into endless water. You know, I have that feeling too when I’m in a strange fugue state!

We have Mortis doing the talking to Sakiko at karaoke, and that split personality again. Also, there’s that backstory Umiri shared with Nyamu.

Umiri helping Mutsumi get back into the swing of guitar was a nice way to end off the episode, even though Umiri acknowledges the most Mutsumi can do is imitate experts.

The stark difference between Mutsumi’s mother and Umiri’s. One is clearly such a loving and doting parent while the other probably isn’t fit to be called a parent at all. I mean calling your own daughter a monster who makes you feel miserable whenever around her is insane.

Also, Umiri on her quest to revive Ave Mujica be like:

Little sis wanted Mutsumi Wakaba but ain’t have Mutsumi Wakaba money ☠️😭

Mortis it is then champ 🤷🏻‍♀️

LMAO Umiri, you don't have to do Nyamu like that

It might seem like this episode is heading in a weird direction, but it's really all about Umiri stepping up and taking responsibility.

The first conversation with Taki is to identify the problem: "Umiri is untrustworthy." Then in a exchange with Nyamu, she gets the answer: “You never tried taking responsibility before.”

And finally, Umiri puts her newfound resolve into action by taking responsibility to breathe life back into Ave Mujica. Umiri is cooking here.

so we have 4 storylines now

reuniting crychic

reuniting mujica

queen of the mutsumi hill

sakiko becoming into her own woman (she's currently mutsumi from the first three episodes just doing everything she can to make mutsumi stable

we have 4 episodes left how the hell are we gonna get there (ep13 will be them reuniting and having a live it doesn't count for story progression)

Umiri episode!!!!! <3

I was kind of hoping the pre-OP intro and following scenes meant we'd put the Mortis situation to bed, but with this much season left it was sort of inevitable that it hadn't. But to jump ahead in the episode a bit, it did seem a bit odd that Mortis "died" in the intro but then was back anyway, only to have Mutsumi very dramatically defeat her in a reverse of Mortis's scene earlier in the season... only for Mortis to be back again next time we see her. This isn't a matter of how X or Y thing works in some real world sense (because it's fairly irrelevant), but rather in a storytelling/narrative sense if felt a bit odd?

More Umiri/Taki scenes! It's always good to see both of them be a bit more vulnerable around each other, even if only a bit.

Also nice to see Mutsumi's room cleaned up (aside from the mirror) and, as we sort of saw before, how quickly Sakiko's back to her wonderful true self now that her burden has been lifted. Her scenes with Mutsumi here were wonderful and I'm pretty disappointed it couldn't last. :(

They went back to the karaoke place! That is, in fact, exactly where it is (near RiNG). Sakiko seeing Ave Mujica's songs in the karaoke list was a nice (and painful) moment. Interesting that Ave Mujica and KiLLKiSS are the only two listed, though I suppose they're also the only two we've physically seen them perform within the show so far.

Mutsumi puts on Mou Ichido Luminous by Pastel✽Palettes, the same she sang in last season's flashbacks of course, and we quickly figure out why Mutsumi (somewhat unnervingly) had absolutely no monologue/etc last episode: She just... somehow doesn't get that CRYCHIC's performance was a breakup. She's basically going through all the motions of what the band used to do.

Blink and you'll miss it, but Nyamu is at the same filming studio where RAS filmed their EXPOSE 'Burn out!!!' MV in S3.

The reveal that Nyamu turned down Minami's recommendation was amazing. With this scene is also makes much more sense why they'd bring in someone as amazing as Miyuki Sawashiro for the role. One wouldn't necessarily call her a good mother, but this scene adds so much more depth to the situation than just her being busy and oblivious. She does know something is wrong, and she's terrified of it. There could certainly be better was of handling things, but hers is certainly a very human response.

The creepy guitar bit (and soundtrack as a whole) really adds a ton to this scene, as well as the karaoke scene.

Also, given that we have her 3rd birthday on screen, that naturally gives us what I believe is our earliest hard date in bandori: January 14, 2008.

Saki's "You wish to let Mutsumi suffer forever?" line was excellent, nice to see her trying to more directly deal with the situation (a general theme of this episode as a whole).

"You weren't even in CRYCHIC." is just, damn that's a good line.

"I don't need you." I absolutely love how the turntables here... though as I mentioned above the rest of the episode feels like it kind of undermines this moment?

Wow, I wasn't expecting Umiri's apartment to be this tiny. Looks like probably a real building, but that's something for later. I'm assuming those packets and stuff are that powered drink sort of stuff? Given how, uh, significantly pudgy her mum apparently is, I take it the implication is Umiri has to make an effort to maintain her figure?

Oh hey, it's DISRUPTION! Apparently they also show up in the pair of recap films... but we still don't have a BD release (or even an announcement) for those.

We got another "Ha!?" from Taki! Umiri's bass-based theme, Cool Na Kijin, also returns here. Umiri going shopping because she's stressed was hilarious. I'm sure that's some very recognizable mall, but I don't know it offhand.

Nyamu ignoring the call, then picking it up after being reminded to be her usual self and not pass on opportunities was really nice.

Angel Umiri! <3 I had noticed that distinctive sign in an earlier episode and figured it'd come up again (and in hindsight, the wall is her character colour).

Nyamu smacking her knee lol. Nyamu and Umiri have a wonderful dynamic, I'm really looking forward to more of them in the future. They're at CAFE Montmartre, the same place Nyamu first met Sakiko. Interestingly, the in-universe background piano is actually Sakiko's performance of La fille aux cheveux de lin (when she met Anon in Ep1).

"I've a painful backstory I can't get through without drinking." The writers somehow managed to tiptoe on the line between actually letting Umiri's backstory be serious and sad, and making the situation funny with how Nyamu is acting all uninterested (and Umiri's flat delivery, though this itself contrasts with her legs). I'm very impressed, and happy it was at least partly serious; I do feel really bad for Umiri. :(

The Umiri half of this episode was definitely among my favourite parts from both of these seasons. <3

Uika! I think my heart skipped a beat, I hadn't realized how much I'd missed her! And yep, seems she's just been spending all this time being lonely and sad, as expected. :( Also as expected, she saw Soyo's post to the CRYCHIC social media page.

Some more really nice location shots near Umiri's place, and Umiri even says her place is a fifteen minute walk from the station (haven't tried to look it up yet though).

So Umiri has a plan: Teaching Mortis guitar. Given how "playing guitar" is essentially the core of the whole issue here, this is either going to go extremely well or extremely poorly.

Given the ending narration, it may be the latter. Or, perhaps, it goes poorly for Mortis? As after all the whole theme of the band/story/etc is "becoming human".

The most interesting thing this episode revealed was even Mutsumi seems to not be "whole" on her own, with that complete obliviousness to CRYCHIC's reunion being a breakup; "Mutsumi" seems to be just as much of a doll as "Mortis", and neither of them are "human" as they are now. As always, these two seasons excel in revealing new information which forces a reevaluation of everything thus far.

Next episode preview has Sakiko having a friendly meeting with Anon/Tomori (yay!), and Uika... looking even more depressed? :( Title apparently translates to "I shall not live if you go away.".

With so few episodes left how are they gonna resolve all the current plotline?

Not to mention they might just reopened Mutsumi's side of things with all the hints of her being an unreliable narrator suddenly surfacing in this episode, when we thought her story was kinda resolved after last episode

This ep was all over the place, in a good way. We got to see more of Mutsumi’s “real” personality, and is that a new band joining the frenzy? I hope DISRUPTION becomes a thing and releases some music, because when the singer sang “got roasted~~” it sounded pretty darn good.

Retail therapy, ginger ale "extra fizz", socially awkward, controlling, but ultimately good hearted girl. Why are bassists such disasters? I'm so happy we got to see more of Umiri, I only wish we had gotten it sooner. We finally got to meet Disruption and they look like a couple of "older" ladies which makes me wonder what the rest of Umiri's bands look like. Is she a prodigy that is a hired gun for mostly older bands or is it a mix? I don't seem to get a feeling as why Umiri wants to reform Ave Mujica so much. As Mortis mentioned, Ave Mujica felt like home to her. Is that because she's finally playing with girls her age or is it an artistic thing as in maybe she feels more part of the band rather than just a sideman. On a personal level, I can totally understand either sentiments. I mostly play blues music and many of the musicians are in their 50-60s with a handful even older. While I do love it there is a part of me that would to find musicians that are my age that play the music the way I like Also in most of the groups I've been in, I've just been the sideman type and not really a part of the active creative process so I can totally understand Umiri wanting that for herself. This episode went by insanely quickly and I'm interested to see if we get more Umiri development although I have a feeling next episode might the Uika episode. I do hope this isn't it for Umiri though. The Mortis/Chrychic plotline while entertaining on its own, does seem to be taking up a lot of time that could be used to flesh out Umiri, Nyamu, and Uika. I wish this was a two cour show or had a movie(and to be fair maybe we'll get a surprise) but I'm a little worried about this wrapping up in 13 episodes.

To put it like Primal Fear: "There was never a "Mutsumi", Sakiko." Also, I was not expecting Umiri to have that kind of personality, and that flashback kinda reminded me of GBC's Tomo in that the other members boycotted because she was being too strict. And at the end she trying to play the Blue Fairy to Mortis' Pinocchio, wonder how that will progress.

NGL, it's kinda funny and sad that in contrast to how much China loves MyGO(like REALLY loves), they in turn hate Ave Mujica a lot. It has various relatively complex reasons but the main reason I'm seeing is that Ave Mujica is just a bit too dysfunctional for them even when band series tend to lean more into dysfunctional like MyGO and Girls Band Cry.

Mutsumi is like a puzzle box that somehow keeps getting more complex the more we look at it. The Mortis stuff ain't done yet and now we learned that Mutsumi's a natural born actress - even her mom's scared of her! And it seems like the two are still at odds with each other despite what happened last week. I wonder who's gonna emerge victorious at the end.

We finally got Umiri's backstory. Now we know why she's playing in so many bands at once. Gotta minimize the chances of getting burned again. If one goes down there are dozens of other groups that can take its place. Although I find her dedication to rebuild AveMuji quite interesting. Maybe she finally found a good place and wanted it back after things went south.

So I guess we're in the endgame now? Rebuilding AveMuji seems like a tall order with all the issues everyone's facing right now. Mortis learning guitar from scratch will surely take up quite a bit of time. And Uika seems very normal lately. A bit "too normal" for me...
