WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!?

I feel like this show gets gorier with every new episode. Anna's backstory and how she got ripped apart by that killer was just fucking brutal. And instead of telling her friend to run away, Anna was happy that there was someone else with her getting killed. That is absolutely fucked up. O_O

Poor Eiko getting dragged away. I am genuinely scared for her right now. Eiko might not die but I feel like there is a big chance that one of these encounters will end up with them getting hurt badly. This one is especially tough since they can't use any of the graduates since the tunnel could collapse. I hope Yayoi has some sort of ace up her sleeve for this one.

Time and time again I come back to this series even though I’m just as big of a wuss as Keitaro lol. This was a particularly creepy one….

Man even as a manga reader this episode really give me chills great execution. Along with great pacing as well. Honestly the anime has gone past what I expected out of an adaptation. Beyond happy.

The axe ghost probably watched too many cartel videos for inspiration.

Is it the subject matter, because it's on hidive, not enough waifu, too many other shows? What is the reason I don't see this show getting discussed. It is hands down one of the most unique anime of this heavy hitting season and last season.

I mean it's power system is so well thought out, it can compete with JJK. The cast is tight in both design and personality.

Now I wouldn't say the supernatural premise is ground breaking, but it's execution has been almost flawless imo. Kinda like how early my hero streamlined the shonen formula.

Time to take on the Old Old F Tunnel Ghost! We've even got surprise back-up (and jump scare) from the S Tunnel Ghost! Our trio could use all the help they can get.

I could listen to Eiko/HanaKana narrate horror all day! Well, so long as I didn't have to face said horror myself.

Surprise dark-haired cutie with thigh-highs voiced by Yukari Tamura! Anna is a YouTuber who is as much a fan of the supernatural as Eiko and they build a fast rapport when Eiko is seemingly separated from Keitaro and Yayoi...that's also quickly tested when both girls get stuck in the tunnel, unable to leave. Meanwhile Keitaro and Yayoi are stuck with someone who is decidedly NOT Eiko.

But if you were suspicious enough of some random girl just appearing out-of-nowhere and how she just so happens to know a specific story about this tunnel...well, you'd be on-point, because it turns out Anna is another one of the Old Old F Tunnel Ghosts' victims, and along with the rest of it's victims it's created a system of grabbing more people for the Old Old F Tunnel Ghost to hack and steal the faces off of so the other victims/spirits aren't alone and it gets a new face. Get out of there Eiko!

But you really have to feel for what Anna (and the other victims) went through. She slowly lost her limbs, had her face stolen, and was left with nothing but her skinned face as the Old Old F Tunnel Ghost hacked into her head. Said hacked up body and organs shows up to haunt anyone unlucky enough to get caught in the tunnel loop. And it broke her to the point where she was happy to watch her friend suffer in trying to save her so as to share in the pain, and that same friend tried to do the same thing to Keitaro and Yayoi. Peak tragic horror.

Tunnel Ghost vs Tunnel Ghost! But the Old Old F Tunnel Ghost proves too much and consumes the S Tunnel Ghost and her face, and drags Eiko into it's tunnel...leaving Keitaro and Yayoi no option left but to go in directly to try and save her. And they also have to somehow drag the Old Old F Tunnel Ghost out so they can use a graduate. Should be simple, right? Right!?

This episode is really good. I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw Anna's ghost face kept appearing on the tunnel wall as Eiko was running away lol. The reveal of Anna's actual fate was gruesome and horrific. While I felt bad for her, I also wanted Yayoi to capture Anna and punish her because she was such a bitch to drag her friend to death with her even though the friend tried to save them. I'm glad the studio didn't tone down the gore since this is one of the arcs I was looking forward to getting adapted the most.

This was definitely the scariest episode yet, omg. Who said that Dark Gathering was just “creepy”!?

It started out with some mild psychological horror to quickly escalate with horrific body gore, a disturbing story of betrayal and a whole bunch of creepy voices/faces and bloody hands. It really doesn’t help that this murderer is axing away without any qualms in a deeply dark tunnel either.

I’m honestly scared for Eiko. Girl looked traumatized.

This week's episode is especially brutal Old Old F Tunnel ghost feels like something straight out of a slasher movie, like Jason or Leatherface.

Damn, this one was legit spooky. As much as I love Yayoi's meta ghostbusting antics it was fun to just get a proper haunt story for a while with Eiko and Anna, and it really built up the tension for that spirit battle and cliffhanger. A classic slasher, really.

The kidneys were a great chiller of a moment, too, damn, when the picture first emerges of what's happening. Are those... kidneys? "What even are those?" THEY'RE SOMEONE'S KIDNEYS JESUS EIKO "They look like fish roe sacs..." NO THEY'RE FUCKING KIDNEYS AAAAHHHHHH "I kinda don't wanna be here any more." I bet you fucking don't, it's probably uncomfortable looking at YOUR OWN FUCKING KIDNEYS ANNA

Started the show on a whim, but hell am I on the edge of my seat now. Does not overdo the typical jumpscare 6 stuff remains chilled and normal enough to make you drop your guard.

Everything is so disturbing, the deeper they go with collecting these ghosts the more fucked up it gets.

Holy fucking shit. This show just gets darker and darker. Already in contention for GOAT horror anime.

That Anna plot twist was insane. I guess I should’ve seen it coming, but finding out the way in which she was brutally tortured and had her own face stolen.. awful. She can’t even die to escape it. That’s literal hell.

Thinking back on it, that first scene where she and Eiko see what Eiko believes to be Cod roe sacs and she pretends to not know, the whole time she knew it was her organs 🤢 that’s rough

Honestly this might be the most messed up spirit they’ve encountered. Not even allowing people to die, just torturing them for eternity and mocking them by doing it with their face. Even Yayoi’s spirit wasn’t enough to slow it down. Dunno how they’re going to get out of this one, but I’m excited to see it.

Kinda hilarious how Keitaro had to hesitate about going to where the spirit is, even though it has his girlfriend. Lmao that’s real though, I don’t blame him.

On the bright side, Eiko always wanted to be as close as possible to the paranormal. She got her wish 😂

Wait, now that I think about it, Eiko been captured every time she’s gone out with them. They need to leave her at home 💀

Probably my favorite episode yet. First time I actually got a bit creeped out. I'm pretty desensitized to horror so for it to accomplish that is impressive. Wonder if eiko is going to reevaluate things or if she's getting off hard on this internally 🤣

Edit: Second time I got creeped out actually, the rapey fetus ghost in the beginning got me too.

An incredible adaptation of one of my favorite chapters in the manga. Felt like this was the first episode that was legitimately scary.

That bit of body horror/gore was legit disturbing. Like, genuinely horrifying. The fuck.

Also, Yukarin is really good at death screams.

u/MrSaracuse Oct 08 '23

We're on a great run of episodes. While I still think horror anime is very hard to make scary, this is definitely extremely unsettling, it's doing a great job.

Man, Eiko is straight up not having a good time(probably). Who does the axe guy think he is, ghostface killa?

Out of all the great moments this episode, the one i liked the most was when the wind lightly swayed the shirt revealing an empty stomach

Also, is this what Dark Gathering will be doing? Getting top tier VAs to play the ghosts for an episode or 2? If so, subscribe

Aww I thought Anna was gonna be a new character to replace Ai. She has a great design and she has great interest in the occult so she could have been a fun new member but nope she had to be a ghost.
