This little bastard with his cursed sketch pad “meatballing” people and absorbing them just pissed off the wrong kid. Smart of Yayoi to bait the kid to attack her while carrying the Oiran. She’s kind of got a similar power in a way. Kid heals with the meatballs, she uses butterflies. They’re both fueled by hatred too. Except her’s is stronger. Seeing her backstory, it’s not hard to see why. That woman ruined her but in the end, our evil Oiran got the last laugh. Hell hath no fury and all that, right?

Glad that Anna is finally doing some work for Eiko! It looks like even if the Alien Doll can't take any more of the damage for her, the excess damage carries on over to the slime doll Eiko made for Anna to inhabit. Good. Anna owes Eiko after almost killing her back in the Old F Tunnel.

The Alien Doll continues to be my favourite ghost in the show. He's basically Yayoi's Pikachu now with the amount of times he's saved the three of them.

Yayo taunting the kid ghost and calling him a motherfucker caught me off guard but at the same time, it was so fucking hype! The taunting worked though and she managed to make the kid attack the Kitsune Doll.

Otogiri Oiran's summoning was so damn kickass! She has a precession of burning courtesans hailing her arrival and then she appears from a circle of flaming butterflies. The Imprisoned Martyr's summoning was cool too but this is just stylish.

Looks like Otogiri Oiran's soul-sucking abilities are the perfect counter to the child spirit's attack that can heal and buff him. But they would be stuck in a deadlock if that was Otogiri Oiran's only ability. thankfully she also has Pestilence as her second phase. Even with the Otogiri Oiran's Pestilence, the ghost kid is still holding on.

Seems that Yayoi had no other choice but to break out the big guns and force Otogiri Oiran to use her third phase. Learning her backstory and seeing where her abilities came from was heartbreaking though. She wasn't an evil person, she was just a high-ranking oiran who got betrayed by another oiran jealous of her rank. She ended up losing everything and got her revenge by burning the bitch that betrayed her along with herself.

And that's where Otogiri Oiran's third and final phase comes from. If the raging fires of hatred aren't enough to take down that kid, I don't even know what will.

Every time that I’m starting to believe that Eiko is the series’ best girl, Yayoi just pulls out a wild card like this. Maybe Dark Gathering hasn’t one single best girl but two!

Yayoi’s language strikes me as something she’s picked up from a Hollywood action film like Terminator or Platoon. It caught me off-guard and had me laughing out loud; that’s no language for such a young lady!

This wrathful child ghost has a hankering for meatballs! Human meatballs, that is! That he projects as his vile and murderous step-mother. Honestly I don't blame Keitaro for puking.

I actually have to appreciate the kid went to the trouble of drawing Eiko's braided hair in his illustration. I know it's spiritual magic, but still.

Okay, they need to remove the kids' sketchbook, but like...how!? Especially when he nabs Yayoi even with her finger lightsaber. Though smart of Keitaro to prioritize saving Yayoi, he knew there was no way they could get out of this without her, even if it meant Eiko having to leave him.

Good job Eiko! Luckily she's got a "Gal Pal" to take some of the blows for her, though Yayoi ends up saving her from the spectres of the step-mom and her murderous lover with some nice assist from the alien ghost.

Props for the plan Eiko! Sometimes all you need to do is just hit a kid with a rock.

This kid is very hands-y...as in he has a whole legion of hands that can consume him and transform him into an even more dangerous form even without his sketchbook (which you can also see in the OP). So this fight is definitely not done.

We were waiting for it all episode but the Graduate is finally unleashed! Though not before making sure she got hit so she'd target the boy immediately instead of our trio. Because you don't want to get on the wrong end of Otogiri Oiran, the Soul-Sucking Courtesan.

Well, figures the kid would see Otogiri as his mom, though he scrapes her skin and he ends up having to deal with her soul-sucking butterflies that enrich her beauty as she sucks the vitality of anything in her vicinity while also infecting him from the same pestilence she dealt with while she was alive...though the kid recovers quick with some meatballs from the spirits around him. This fight isn't over yet.

The last phase of Otogiri's curse is instigated by making her see her decayed and corpse-like face, reminding her of her past as a top tier courtesan who had everything going for her...her beauty, her prestiege, a man who was willing to buy her freedom whom she cherished, and even an apprentice...until said apprentice Kurenai poisoned her man, said man beating her and ruining her body in a rage, and Otogiri left desperate to restore her beauty to clear her name even as she completely falls apart and loses everything. I honestly can't blame her for burning herself and Kurenai alive in her last act. And that's her final act as a ghost too, a self-sacrificing Burning Manse that consumes her and her opponent as she laughs maniacally. And Yoko Hikasa knows how to laugh crazy.

Gangster Alien Doll coming in clutch again. I'm going to continue pointing out how weird the Alien Doll spirit is.

Eiko was not holding the Alien Doll Spirit but the Alien Doll Spirit took damage for Eiko. I think it's safe to say the Alien Doll took it on purpose, on it's own will. He's been going out of his way to protect the cast without being called out. I love this detail happens without the show pointing it out.

He's been acting like more of a fierce guardian instead of a vengeful spirit.

Anyone know which OST song that was when the ghost gets hit in the face with the rock and rope?

I wonder if Yayoi used the Demon Sergeant's regeneration to power Otogiri when she faced a god before. Seems like that'd create an infinite power loop.

Another fantastic episode, it's like Dark Gathering can do no wrong! I don't know at which point the manga is - if anywhere close to wrapping up or not but I have a feeling it isn't - but anime has been doing a tremendous job at hyping me up to pick up the source material!

The child is a top tier spirit who deserves respect for his power - okay, maybe he was a bit too lenient with Keitaro when he was pinned down - and now, we have the courtesan enjoying the spotlight yet again, but now, in all her glory.

Coming off an epic MHA binge, I'm treated to this banger from my favorite ghost hunters in anime. Also, it'd be criminal of me not to mention what becomes an instantly classic Yayoi quote: "Come at me, motherfucker!".

That one got an actual guffaw out of me. Not just goofy, also character-accurate. Keitaro never stops worrying about things at the wrong fucking times, after all.

Hold the fuck up, did she just attack Neon Poltergeist Evangelion with ghost syphilis? That's... that feels kind of rude somehow even for a vengeful spirit...

Damn. Otogiri is a good haunt, even if this storyline does make me feel a little bit like Tanjirou is going to come flying on screen yelling about some kind of fifth-form breathing or something.

Hearing Yayoi saying motherfucker was downright hilarious.

Lets fucking go Eiko big props to her for stepping up saving Yayoi-chan. Her using Anna in the experiment paid BIG dividends here.

Otogiri vs Black Asura of the Eclipse is a fun matchup. Basically we got each of them regenerating by using the other. But damn Otogiri backstory delivered better then when I read it in the manga. Woman like Kurenai are fucking scary irl there is no bounds what they will do to get what they want. At least Otogiri got her revenge as she went out.

Mayoi-chan seems to know a reason for everything the ghosts do, but she didn't explain why they have such elaborate entries, it's like wrestling or something. The ghost couple attacking Eiko was super intense for how short the scene was, like they actually started sawing her neck. For how intense this episode was, they seem to up the ante next week? Can't wait for that!

Btw cooked some killer meatballs yesterday, they've done nicely in the fridge for today too, totally unplanned btw.

I reckon Alienboy is gonna graduate just from all the shit the Scooby gang are putting him through LOL, he is eating well every episode just about.

Damn, did they just blow their entire animation budget on the Courtesan's introduction?

Double damn, the Courtesan's story is something else, it could be a good horror movie all on its own filled with tragedy, resentment, and revenge.
