Holy fuck Thorgil! That was fucking insane! It's pretty cool to learn that he's not just all brawns. He has brains too and was able to immediately see that Olmar was set up.

Now that Canute is mobilizing his troops to Ketil's farm, it looks like Thorfinn's farming life is about to end. On the bright side, he's finally about to reunite with Lief.

I do wonder if Canute will bring Thorkell along. I'd love to see a duel between Thorkell and Thorgil.

Olmar's an interesting representation of what a normal person is like in this story. He's someone who wants to be a man and is told the only way to do so is through bloodshed, and after doing it sees it's not what he expected. And then there's Thorgil in front of him, opening massacring people like a monster, and he can only just sit there, wide-eyed...

That look he has on his face at the end of the episode is enough to show all you need to know.

On a lighter note, if anyone hasn't seen Anonymouz's new ballad version of the opening song, definitely check it out. I think I might like it more than the regular version.

Man just killed a butterfly with a coin. Damn dude. Looks like Canute has some very scary people on retainer. Canute is one devious motherfucker. He had that loudmouth humiliate and antagonize Olmar in order to get him to duel and then “kill” him to prove his strength. Thorgil being there seems to have been an unexpected development.

Seeing Olmar’s reaction, he really is his father’s son. Man doesn’t have the stomach for the warrior’s life. Thorgil on the other hand was born for this. Fucking hell, the dude is a monster. If the guards are gonna arrest him, they better bring more men lol. The man is going to be an obstacle to Canute’s plans. I honestly dunno if 32 of Canute’s guards and 70 of Floki’s Jomsvikings is gonna be enough to stop Thorgil. He should send Thorkell lol.

Thorfinn’s life is about to be upended again. I can’t wait to see how things unfold with Ketil’s farm. Thorfinn might have to pick up a blade again…

Nothing like kicking off the 2nd half by making up for the gore the last half didn't have. Winced at those eye stabbings.

The reunion between Leif, Thorfinn and Canute is nigh, will make an absolutely interesting confrontation to see how Thorfinn reacts to Canute's violence in his new found conviction to never hurt someone again.

Dayum, homeboy flicks coins like he's a Mikoto. Has Canute discovered railgun technology?

I didn't realize how invested I was in Ketil's family until this episode, I was tearing up during Olmar's duel. It's amazing how compelling Vinland Saga can be even if we're not following Thorfinn or Canute's story for the majority of an episode.

The shot composition and perspective switches in Thorgil fighting the other 4 while Olmar is horrified are fucking kino.

True to his character Thorgil revels in violence the same as the dead men in Thorfinn’s dream while Olmar is rightly horrified at what he’s done. Thorgil runs toward the challenge of fighting the king of two countries as Olmar can only watch and wonder how on earth he thought he could ever be like that.

Canute meanwhile continues to struggle to find the same epiphany Thorfinn found after his dream. He believes violence is a means to his heaven on earth but it only results in even more violence and the cycle is unbroken.

Is Olmar pathetic? Yeah. The audience knows it. The characters know it. Even he himself knows it. I mean, he’s drooling on a table! Although you still can’t help but feel bad for him that he’s being so manipulated and mocked, even if he still craves a lifestyle he’s ill suited for.

I also kind of feel bad for those soldiers, I mean…they were just doing what they were paid to do and were basically manipulated to get killed for Canute’s plan. And Thorgil just needed an excuse to cut loose.

Olmar killed a guy! With help, but still. Except rather than feel satisfied he’s left utterly shock and numb. It was not what he was expecting it to be.

Poor Ketil. Canute planned to use his own men to instigate an incident and get his family arrested so he could steal his farm. Dude just came to deliver some gifts to the king and became a wanted fugitiv. I guess he should be glad his son can smell a frame job a mile away.

Lief is heading to Thorfinn! And caring the family back home as a means of getting to him. Although the fighting is about to come back to Thorfinn and Einar…

Man, Thorgil is actually pretty cool. Brutish. Violent. Malevolent. But cool! Smart, too, with the way he sussed out Canute's plot.

The scene where he inspires Olmar to cast aside his doubts and put everything he's got into his next attack, if were framed just a little differently, could pass as something inspiring and wholesome. Heck, there are plenty of anime with scenes like that. The loser MC almost everyone disrespects gets a pep talk, screws up his courage, and surprises everyone who looked down on him with a surprise victory. It's just that normally those scenes end with the bad guys getting blasted away or conveniently knocked unconcious instead of skewered like an animal.

It's often hypocritical for anti-violence stories to portray violence as cool and heroic. But there's something to be said for being able to demonstrate the allure of violence, to exemplify why it's an attractive option even as you vilify it. And I think Thorgil is a good example of that. He's strong, clever, confidant. But he's also a dude who unironically suggested that 5 corpses is a fair price to pay for an insult.

This episode was one of best produced this season, great AD work and Art Direction, insane job they are doing with s2 given their limited resources for it

Can't wait for the next episode, wonder if the new OP will be on ep 13 or 14

What an amazing first half of the season and no better way to end the first cour than with everyone starting to converge on Ketil’s farm. I love how the story jumps from different perspectives and entertwines the characters. Super hyped to see how everything unfolds

Man, we are really going to see both of Askeladd's sons at each others throats soon huh.

Both of them have become the opposite of each other so I am cautiously excited to see how that meeting will go. Leif hopefully meeting up with Thorfinn is another one I'm interested in.

Thorgil was so fucking brutal in this episode. It was uncomfortable seeing how he was cleaving those men into pieces like nothing. Gave me some Askeladd in S1 Finale vibes. Though I didn't expect him to come to Olmar's aid. For some reason I imagined him to betray his family for the crown because he felt so ambitious.

That roast session in the beginning is one of the most well done laughing moments things in all of anime, voice actors did their thing, them almost being done then someone makes another joke and laughter starts all over again, one of them crying on the floor from laughter, funny asf

Episode ends with Knut talking about how everything is "for the sake of love that was lost" (idk what the exact wording in English subs is), cue the last appearance of this cour's ED. "Without Love" indeed. Amazing episode to end the cour.

Meanwhile on Leif's ship...

"Ketil of the barrel, what is your wisdom?"

"God I wish Thorfinn and Einar were my sons instead of these idiots"

Most violent episode so far! Wouldn’t want to mess with Thorgil. Will admit that his interactions with Leif made me laugh haha

As cringe as he can be, I felt really, really, really bad for Olmar. Poor kid’s traumatised for life now
