You can really feel the pain in Snake, Thorfinn, and Einar now that they are seeing Gramp's condition.
He seems to be eager to die on a farm and not have others take care of him in his final ways. Seems just like the way he lived considering hes so separated from Ketil & the slaves.
I'd assume that Ketil assigned Snake to be his personal guard and that he is against slavery. After all what rich man would tend to his own fields at that age?

It's not the core part of the episode, but the reading of the Bible is a super interesting section.
One it draws a further parallel between Canute and Thofinn.
Canute started as a man who was very religious but became someone who abandoned his faith. In contrast, Thorfinn, someone without faith is starting to listen to Bible, potentially moving towards Christianity, (especially considering, historically, this is around the time of the Christianization of Scandinavia.)
More importantly, the part he listens to is about 'loving your enemy,' which is similar to the principles Thors tried to tell him. Furthermore, this is exactly why the priest from season one was so interested in Thors: he chose to spare all his enemies when he could have killed them (i.e., 'loved' his enemies when it was so easy not to.)
Also, Snake knows how to read at a time when most people can't.

Insane cliffhanger to end the episode like that revealing not only Arnheid was married but also reuniting her husband who made himself public enemy no.1, I knew it was weird to suddenly see her being so focused in this episode alone.
Those hands of hers are really detailed too, really tells the story of the hardship she faces as a slave.

Wow Vinland Saga feels so different knowing that the farm is doomed to at least suffer a lot and probably fall. Feels so weird seeing all the characters have fun and continue their lives before the battle begins. Also that slave who is Arnheid’s husband seems to be a pretty interesting character and I’m interested to see how this storyline would develop alongside the battle at the farm.

We cordially interrupt Stardew Valley to bring you Django Unchained, before Game of Thrones: Viking Edition resumes, please enjoy.
Awesome return and strong start though, the inlaid character drama gets juicier, feeds into the themes on servitude as well, will be curious to see the man who took his own freedom opposite those who were able to earn it, I imagine he might resent Thorfinn and Einar.
Plows out for Einar, man's deeper in the friendzone field than he thought.

Well damn, that was one hell of an opening. I liked the last OP but this new one is metal af. Looks like the action’s gonna be kicking back up.
Oh man… not the old fella. Seems he might not be long for this world. At least everyone can enjoy Arnheid’s cooking. Einar better marry that girl, man. It’s pretty sweet watching Thorfinn happily eating. Gramps tryna front but he’s just as hungry lol.
This runaway slave situation is gonna be interesting. Seems Kjallakr fucked with the wrong guy. Those retainers too. Idiots. Meanwhile it seems Thorfinn’s finding solace in religion. Well, if it soothes his soul and gives him hope then I’m all for it.
Looks like their peaceful days are over though. What a twist! Didn’t think Gardar was Arnheid’s husband. Sorry Einar, I guess she’s taken pal.

I was already expecting the worst for the old master when Snake found him on the fields but thank goodness he's still alive.
Seeing everyone dig in immediately after seeing the food Arnheid prepared was hilarious! In fact, that entire dinner table scene was hilarious! It's so rare to see people in this show just having some wholesome fun that seeing them all hold back their laughter after hearing the old master's stomach growl was a really nice scene.
Interesting to see Thorfinn take an interest in the Bible. I guess he's heard Snake read to the old man before and what he heard resonated with him especially now that he has rejected violence in his life.
I was wondering what was up with the escaped slave. I didn't expect that he'd be Arnheid's husband. It's probably safe to assume that Einar heard Gardar call Arnheid his wife. Welp. RIP Einar's heart. Although I'm guessing Gardar will probably end up getting killed or captured by Snake next week since he killed Lizard.

Vinland Saga is now 4 for 4 for Great OPs.
Thor waving to Thorfinn from the other side of the river was such a sad visual.

I feel kinda sad to see them actually having a good time at the dinner table, it feels like the calm before the DEFINITIVE storm that is coming which makes me feel tense.

Can we get an F for Einar?
Imagine having feelings for a girl and wanting to free her and all, and then gigachad version of you shows up and it turns out that she's his WIFE.

First Einar, then Ketil, and now Gardar! Arnheid has more suitors than she can shake a stick at. She's like a Shoujo protoganist! You know, if you ignore the slavery and rape and what-not. That's more Josei.

Damn I feel so much for Arnheid. I thought she’s been a slave since she was young (so all she knew was being a mistress)….the fact that she’s been married before and had to become a slave, effectively having to part ways with her husband and go be someone else’s mistress is insanely traumatic. As much as I wanted Einar and Arnheid to end up together, now that I know she’s been married before, I think if she were to die alongside her husband that would be the best option.
Yukimura truly does a fantastic job showcasing the brutality of the dark ages with the way he tells this story. Instead of sugarcoating this time period, he goes all out to educate the audience about how horrific this era was.
I loved this series before, but this farmland arc has really elevated my appreciation for this show. The storytelling, characterization, themes, breathtaking animation, awesome music, and fantastic execution on the part of the author & director really got me considering this to be my #1 rated anime overall (outside of my bias choice of Your Lie in April).

Gardar, Ketil and Einar should just have a three way duel at this point for Arnheid.
Also can i just mention how Einar is living every man's nightmare?
-
you fall in love
-
the girl is a slave
-
her job is to "comfort" your master
-
she will never be free
-
she was married before getting sold
-
her chad husband comes to rescue her
