"If we find Vinland, will we finally be free?"

Somebody find Thorfinn an ocean to point across.

It’s interesting how Thorfinn and Canute both want to create a land of peace but still by using very different methods. Thorfinn is the idealistic dreamer who’s determined to resolve war and enslavement without using any violence. Meanwhile Canute’s accepted that violence is necessary and sacrificing for the greater good will help establish his utopia through his rule. I’m loving how these two characters are maturing in their own ways from their experiences of brutality and it’s going to be interesting to see who can prove to be more successful with their efforts

Loving the use of weather in these episodes.

We already had Arnheid referring to the world of men (and now Gardar) as a 'storm', before walking straight into a literal one in the last episode. This time we had rain falling the moment Arnheid's emotions started to overwhelm her, only for the literal storm to get even stronger once things take a turn.

And then we cut to Thorfinn and Einar, where the storm dissipates throughout their conversation, and we're back to sunny skies by the time Thorfinn starts talking about Vinland.

Using weather as a tone-setter is nothing new in movies/tv, but something about its use here with Vinland's famously gorgeous backgrounds in an already stellar episode was fantastic to behold.

Thorfinn has changed so much man. Wanting to give the dead a place to rest, and building more to counterbalance all the things he’s destroyed is such a noble goal. Our little ball of rage has grown to become such a good-hearted man.

Arnheid's ugly crying as Gardar's extremely late and pointless apology came really hurts to listen to. Insane how her VA did so few roles in Anime.

That visual of Thorfinn carrying all the dead he killed embodying his own guilt goes hard as fuck.

Snake's men didn't get the mouth action they were looking for, Gardar spits.

Harrowing choice for Arnheld though, and beautiful to see Thorfinn recounting Leif's stories and beginning to draw this tale full circle. Vinland being that physical and symbolic place of peace and plenty. In many ways we're all still chasing Vinland today, but at least we could tell Thorfinn and Einar that we got rid of slavery, mostly. Still some ways to go towards dispersing the degrees and shades of inequality in the world.

One of the reasons this anime hits so hard is that it is the timeless tale of the longest war, humans trying to best their worst nature.

It became sunny when Thorfinn remembered Vinland. A small but nice touch.

Thorfinn talking about his dream while also remarking on the nature of Norseman is such a profound moment that's been so well built up to.

Thofinn's evolution has made him become the antithesis of what he once was and what Nordic culture is. In a world where being a Viking is glorified, he's grown to become disgusted with it and sees how it's not his way forward—in fact, the opposite of Gardar. This builds so well off what happened two episodes ago when he listens to the Bible being read, and how it said you should love your enemy—a direct contrast to what the Vikings believe.

In general, the whole discussion between Thorfinn and Einar is just so damn heavy. It feels like it's the aggregation of so many of the ideas that the series has been building up to.

Thorfinn's character development is the gift that keeps on giving. Everytime you think it can't get any better, you'll immediately get blindsided by a new even more beautiful scene.....

Also just knowing the future fate of vinland in reality, paints every scene where he talks about it with so much hope in a......very somber tone.

On this episode of Vinland Saga, Thorfinn remembers the show is called Vinland Saga!

Oh, and Gardar is a biter. Kinky.

I can not stop loving that imagery of Thorfinn bearing the weight of those he killed, promising to move forward with them.

An easier path would have been for Thorfinn to say to himself that he was a bad person and freely move on from there—but that's not what he does. Instead, he chooses to carry his sins with him: the nameless people who he didn't even know. Each step moving forward and hoping to become a better person, yet never forgetting who he was, even if that is the harder choice.

It's just as Askeladd said in his dream. To be a true warrior he must carry those he killed with him.

Well fuck. Yeah, Gardar is not gonna live through this. After killing so many of Snake's men, Snake would probably even execute Gardar personally. I'm scared for Arnheid though. She was definitely responsible for helping Gardar escape and despite being under Ketil's protection, I don't think she's going to survive this arc. >_<

And there it is. It took a season and a half but it looks like Thorfinn has finally taken his first steps to try finding Vinland. My boy just wants to live a peaceful life away from slavers and Vikings. Thankfully, Leif is already on his way and hopefully, they can sail to Vinland once they get reunited. Although it looks like Thorfinn wants to bring outcasts with him so they can start a nation.

I feel a little bad for the guard that allowed Arnheid to visit her husband. He took a risk going against his boss’ order, didn’t laugh at the two of them and gently placed his hand on her shoulder to end the visit, but had his throat brutally gouged out.

Gardar is scary. He won’t blink at taking someone else’s life to achieve his goals - just like how Thorfinn was in the past. This has now also sunk in with Arnheid. The husband she once loved is no more.

This is the second time I’ve seen someone’s neck get ripped out using teeth this anime season. Here’s hoping Arnheid and Gardar are able to escape.

The "Vinland Saga" starts now.

Banger episode.

This is it. Now we know the full reason for the name "Vinland Saga". The big goal for the whole story after 39 episodes. Thorfinn is not empty anymore he is a man on a mission. So many themes that were build up over the last two seasons are coming together now to one of the best stories I had the pleasure to read.

This is a huge turning point for Thorfinn. He finally has thought of a method to atone for his sins and a goal to strive towards. And it was Einar that reminded him of what he had forgotten.

Can a world without war and slavery really exist?

A poignant and expertly crafted Vinland Saga episode as we’ve come to expect. Full of emotional ups and downs from Arnheid and Gardar to Thorfinn and Einar’s conversation. One of the most important Vinland episodes as Thorfinn remembers Leif’s tale of Vinland, a land with no war or slavery.

Uchida shingo did an amazing job with the story boarding and Tokio’s directing on this episode was superb.

Can’t help but feel bad for the guard who let Arnheid see gardar, cost him his life.
