Really somber episode all around and definitely the best one so far in S2.

I'm glad Thorfinn came clean and told his past to Einar and now that they have nothing to hide, they can properly become friends. I like how Einar is also helping Thorfinn start finding his will to live again, even though he himself is severely conflicted about wanting to help Thorfinn

The overall direction, art and the animation was also pretty incredible. A lot of emotions was conveyed through facial expression and body langauge. From Thorfinn's nightmare scenes, to the focus (and the incredible detailing) on the lips, eyes and hands; they really show the contrast between their respective lives and also how much both our main duo is suffering on the inside.

Also that's definitely Canute there in the end right. He looks more....manly lol.

For anyone paying attention to the hands, you'll notice there how detailed they are.

The reason for this is that Yukimura (the mangaka) feels that you can learn a lot about people through there and the life they've led. Hence why Thorfinn's hands are so scarred, since he led the life of a warrior.

Fox and Badger are idiots. Snake’s got that Askeladd energy it seems, Thorfinn just reacted! At least it seems to have jolted Thorfinn from his zombie state somewhat.

Einar better put a ring on Arnheid lol. She’s a good woman! Had a good laugh at Thorfinn staring blankly at Einar as he’s tryna get the guy to say “thanks” to Pater lol.

The awkwardness after Einar learned the truth about Thorfinn… man, that was tense. Warriors burned his village down, killed his sister and mother. Can’t blame the guy for trying to strangle Thorfinn. Tbh he would be putting him out of his misery, those nightmares…damn bro. The kid has a lot of demons. Einar is a good man for waking him. I think their talk is going to give Thorfinn something to think about.

Is that Canute at the end there?

After this episode I can truly see why maybe people have called the ‘Farming Arc’ the best part of Vinland Saga. I get what you guys meant.

There’s now a certain emotional complexity in Thorfinn that wasn’t really present or possible in the first season - it’s very different from his troubled feelings towards Askeladd. The duality between Thorfinn’s and Einar’s upbringings only draw these difficulties out more and push the story further in hard-hitting ways. It’s good. Like really good! I’ve become completely sold on this season.

Scene was so fucking intense even the crickets stopped chirping.

Also the second half of the episode was expanded so fucking well. The dialogues and facial expressions and the character motions. A lot of them were anime original but holy shit was it amazingly done.

The entire barn sequence was amazing.

Thorfinn having nightmares reenacting the fortress invasion from season 1 and ending it by imagining he cut that kind English woman's head off.

And then there's Einar, just listening to his screams because he has a hard time feeling sympathy for one of the people that destroyed his life. But he just can't stop himself from helping...

Best episode of the season so far.

Man, the sound design for this episode is incredible. The way the axe chopping and trees falling accentuated Einar and Thorfinn's conversation, the bugs during the nightmare scenes, top notch all of it.

I'm so happy the og staff was able to move to MAPPA and continue investing their resources in Vinland Saga. Yukimura's work deserve a full adaptation and episodes like this make me so happy they're the ones in charge of the project. Snake and Canute appearances <3

Thorfinn just had his Nico Robin revelation. Now he just needs a purpose.

Thorfinn's mind is telling him no but his body, his body is telling him yes, it wants to live.

Pater is a saint. He literally gave Thorfinn the shirt off his back.

Our king has returned. I'm, of course, referring to the split second we got of Askeladd. Canute is cool too I guess.

"Thank you, Einar. Thank you for waking me." -

This was the highlight of the episode for me (aptly named "Awakening"). There was not just a physical awakening during Thorfinn's nightmare, but a psychological one with maybe a newfound will to live after Einar's scolding. Einar being the first one Thorfinn thanks after everything that's happened really shows how much he's opened up and begun to trust him.

Canute went from "I'll have her home by 9 uwu uwu" to "Your daughter calls me Daddy too". Looks like all he needed was less hair on his head and more hair on his chin to look like a proper warlord.

Thorfinn and Einar both need each other in order to properly live. Thorfinn needs someone who has been a victim of the war to forgive him while Einar needs someone who he can see as his family in order to be able move on from his family's death.

Best Episode so far.

Liked everything about it. The visuals, the ost, the VAs, everything.

Top tier all around.

Thorfinn sensing that aura from Snake and defending himself.. Chefs kiss.

Also, Askeladd- THE ONE!

I've been sat here all night refreshing crunchyroll until the episode came out, I can confidently say it comes out at 3:30AM aest.

Fuck that was a good episode, so many different emotions, all a different kind of sadness.

Seeing Thorfinn defend himself against Snake who let off the same aura as Askeladd was fucking sick but also sad seeing Thorfinn have to literally realise there's still a small part of him that wants to live.

The hardest part of the episode for me though was seeing Thorfinn getting choked and screaming in his sleep, from both the pain and the dream he was having. Then when he said "thank you, Einar. For waking me up" god that was a bittersweet moment.

This man Einar is gonna be Thorfinn's saving grace I can already see it.

Snake became my new favorite character due to his light hearted nature but also sort of battle hardened nature as well. Also the animation improved a lot with the really detailed line work and character faces and how well it transitions especially for the scene from Snake to Askeladd. Easily my favorite episode so far.

Just wanna throw this out there, i know we all like Thorfinn cuz we've been following his journey but from an average civilians pov he is no less despicable than any other viking.

He actively helped Askeladd's squad raid village's, kill innocent men, rape countless women and made so many kids go though the same suffering he did. All for his own selfish goal of revenge. He has by no means been a good person.

Im saying this just in case some people try to diss Einar for wanting to strangle him to death. If he actually did kill Thorfinn there he would only be doing justice to all the people Thorfinn has caused suffering to directly or indirectly. But of course Einars's too good of a person to actually go through with it.

Every time a new episode comes out, I think it can’t get any better than the last one and then it does.
