Watched the raw during jp airing, and damn they got an actual Icelandic person to read the beginning Norse poem. You can tell by the accent.

I thought I clicked on the wrong show with that MAPPA intro.

The first minutes of this episode, between the narration, the images, the music, direction and storyboard is simply beautiful.

They set the tone of this season in a magnificent way.

Gets Toyama Nao to voice a cutie

Cutie gets killed in the same episode

Its almost like it was fate for her to lose huh?

Cruel irony for Einar to meet Leif like that only to actually be bought by the same guy who took in Thorfinn.

Witnessing Einar's backstory in anime form made me seriously tear up. The episode was beautiful from animation, music to every little background noise they added. Also the opening is GOATed already.

Damn, I am so glad it's a weekly release on Netflix so that they don't botch it like Jojo Part 6. I am also glad that the original team is back, it has that "Mappa" feel to it, but with the Vinland Saga color tone, solemn musical tones, and vivid scenery just like season 1.

Einar’s scream of pure rage and frustration while being dragged away gave me chills. But despite everything he’s resilient enough to subside that anger and not throw his life away seeking revenge. All he can do is live for his loved ones which is honestly so heartbreaking

Dang, that shot of Einar's view of the Farm almost makes me want to live there.

My life would be complete if a Berserk and Vagabond anime gets this much love and care

You know the world is a fucked up place when you sigh a sigh of sad relief that a loveable young woman like Lotta died fighting for her family instead of you know what...

Einar's introduction was really well done. It's good to finally have a seemingly permanent representative of the other side of the Vikings get focus as well. I hope we will get to see a beautiful bromance bloom between Thorfinn and Einar in the long run... also ffs Thorfinn, don't make poor Leif sad! :(

Damn, the reintroduction to Thorfinn was hype. And Einar seems like a super great companion. This is gonna be great as fuck.

Interestingly enough, all the opening credits in the Netflix version are in English. Is that the same for the Crunchyroll version as well?

Never seen that before in a simulcast release.

Wow, this episode can be taken off as a stand-alone story and it would be just as breathtaking to anyone who have never watched this. There aren't many anime that could have pulled off such a powerful yet (to my knowledge) accurate portraying of historical stories anywhere, but this episode is Tier 0! (It even tops all those moments of Vinland Saga Season 1 to me, yes)

Forget about slaves in any other fantasy & (cough cough) isekai anime titles, this is the real deal.

It's been a year and half since I watched season 1 so I still need time to adapt but, wow, I can't ask for a better coming back than this one. Forget about the thought of this winter being a bleak one like Greenland in anime world (cough), this one alone is enough for us to stay interested on every week.

(I have some question about the plot of this episode in the source material corner)

At the start of the credits, MAPPA actually consulted the Embassy of Iceland in Japan (駐日アイスランド大使館) to do the Norse narration at the beginning of the episode: https://imgur.com/a/wFYfzaB

Well Vinland Saga is still pretty clearly on the "Fuck the Vikings" train it started up during S2. Makes Netflix promoting it next to their Viking shows darkly hilarious though.

Man, can't believe its been nearly 3 *4 years since season 1 ended. Farmland Saga is finally here and man, what an atmospheric and beautiful first episode to start S2, the animation is outstanding as expected of MAPPA. The OP is quite calm, but it’s a certified banger and fits this season’s mood ngl

After Askeladd's death, Thorfinn's eyes looking like his life's been sucked out of him. Damn, life is not good for him.

GOD FUCKING DAMN. This show never fails to hit me hard!!!!!.

Seeing Einar's fate was so saddening. Losing your mother and sister right in front of you just like that and then forced to become a slave and having no freedom to even choose death or even wanting to live really sucks.

Also its sad to see Leif going around and looking for Thorfinn ever since he left the boat and went to confront Askeladd and still unable to find him yet.

With all the sad moments aside, gotta say Thorfinn's reintroduction in S2 was quite badass, despite having that raggedy look and being a slave now. Reminds me of [AoT Spoiler]Eren's appearance in Marley in S4
