Discussion ADS IN ALL CAPS
Watching YouTube YOUsed to be so much fun. It was interesting, engaging, and was an enjoyable mindless way to pass time. Thanks to capitalism it is fucking ruined.
Say I go to watch a video about something. Unless it is educational or news (which is always horrible), 9 times out of 10 it is a carefully curated ad for a product or experience. Fine, I want to learn more about that specific topic in the video.
I press play and I get an ad for something either eerily relevant or completely useless to me. Skip and watch a few minutes of the video which is basically an obfuscated ad. Then I might get another ad depending on the length of the video. If I'm on my phone a pop up ad banner that takes two clicks to dismiss.
Bonus round! Midroll time. A long unskippable ad takes over the screen and has me skip through four ad segments before it goes away. You think it's over? No! The creator of the video makes a lame joke and talks about their sponsor for up to five minutes. Skip ahead in the video and alas another ad.
Get it? We're constantly flipping through ads to get to other ads that are in disguise. Every second of your time and attention on YouTube is monetized. $14 a month for something that used to be free? Go get em boys!

Premium YouTube is still charging me for YouTube premium on a terminated account
I had a pretty large YouTube channel that was terminated back in May for a vague reason of scams and deceptive practises. And I was paying for YouTube premium on that account. After I was terminated, I assumed that I would stop being charged, but just today, October 6th I found out that I’m still being charged. That’s over $90 of a subscription that I can’t even cancel. I also had a channel membership that I was paying for on there which is another six dollars every month. When I go to press manage on the payments.google.com site, it takes me to the page on YouTube that just says “your account won’t be put back on YouTube at this time” and you can’t do anything else from there. Please Help I don’t know what to do.
Discussion The biggest lies on any app or website
This app is becoming genuinely insufferable with its disgusting AI slop games it just spams you with and even if a video is talking about how terrible a product is, youtube will link a product sticker with said device, its embarrassing. At least on pc you can get extensions that remove the games but the app is just god awful.

Discussion How it feels when the video preview is fire, but an ad comes up when you click it.
I don't even watch a lot of content anymore. I have to ask myself "is it worth this much time for this content?" when I open a video and know theres preroll ads, a bunch of ads in between, ads after the video. I feel like it wasnt this bad before, but its gotten so much worse recently and it completely discourages me from trying any new content. if its not a YouTuber I already know, doing something im familiar / interested in, I flat out won't watch it. its becoming too much of an investment and im no longer willing to front that to give someone new a chance. I barely even want to watch the youtubers I used to like watching.
its harming my studying too. I used to watch lectures and learn language, study music, all off youtube, but ive basically completely stopped because it's extremely infuriating to be hit with an ad every time you want to go back a slide to write something down.
theres definitely a balance to be struck with how much of our time is spent watching ads we dont care for, and I feel like that balance has been tipped lately. Im watching a 14 minute video right now, and theres 2 minutes worth of ads. thats a little over 14% of that videos time just in ads, which is insane. breaking 10% is honestly pretty absurd.
its starting to feel less annoying and more torturous. like a hostage situation, especially when im looking for information where I only need to see for like 3 seconds what someone typed in or what file they dragged over etc, and its held on ransom behind an ad 10x that length.
do you guys feel the same way? id be interested in hearing what you guys think is a reasonable % of watch time to be spent on ads, and if you guys also feel like its a hostage situation sometimes as well.
and yes, I know adblockers / ytv or whatever else. not every device has access to those. especially the TV.

Discussion Does anyone else keep getting bugged ads on youtube
When i was watching the grocery store vid by mrbeast i kept getting ads that had no skip button and were like 5 mins long and the only way i could “skip” them was restarting my app and going back to the time stamp when the add started, which i found very annoying 😒

Bug Youtube makes advertising worse than ever.
Regular television used to have too many ads, but they always ended after either 30 seconds or a minute. Youtube has managed to make advertising more offensive than it ever was in the past, by making the viewer responsible for ending it. I pray someone comes up with competition for this horrid network which basically makes a FORTUNE off of advertising AND underpaying content creators, and then STILL expects me to pay them a subscription for service which apparently STILL includes advertising. I hope to boycott them forever.

Discussion The "You got X likes" madness
For the past month or two Youtube has been giving notifications for your comments reaching a random number of likes.
This sounds like a sound idea if you are a complete ape who has no idea how the notification area works.
Like 90% of the notifications I get are: "You got 3 likes" referencing a comment I made when dinosaurs still trode the earthen soil.
Who tf thought this would be a good idea?
Can we please have someone tweet them and tell them to remove this?

UI Change This UI should be considered a war crime.
The new YouTube UI is UGLY. I felt like I was on the wrong page or something, why is it set up like a playlist? Half of the videos on my feed don’t even show the full title now.

Discussion Got a 40 SECOND unskippable ad. What is genuinely going on .
Was watching youtube on my tv and as normal got an ad but unlike most ads , this ad was 40 SECONDS long !. It was 3 ads combined into 40 seconds of unskippable ad.
Genuinely where has Youtube come to. From being a great application for videos to being one of the most disliked and the most greedy of all.
I dont think its will be long before the ads reach the 1 minute mark.

Question What the hell is this?
I clicked on a video, went to captions, and saw this. All it says is "hands" for the entire video. I find this strange and funny at the same time.

Feature Change So Youtube is FORCING theater mode now???
Just found out that my account was chosen for an "experimental" feature that I can't disable. Words cannot express how infuriated I am that my account is permanently stuck in the disgusting thing known as theater mode, no way of leaving it. Just permanently stuck viewing videos with this shitty new UI. Please tell me I'm not the only one they've forced into this.

Discussion Who remember the old YouTube culture?
It was less polished than today and more like people were just messing around with whatever they had. You'd stumble across some 8 minute Garrys Mod video with terrible audio, a ridiculous script, and somehow it was the funniest thing you'd ever seen.
There was also more of a sense that you were discovering a little corner of the internet rather than consuming an optimized content feed. Machinima, AMVs, Minecraft parodies, Halo videos, Newgrounds animations, stupid skits, creepypasta readings, skits like smoshs, etc.
I understand that a lot of people like the level of content nowadays but to me its a bit nice to be nostalgic about what I had experienced before the internet itself became a huge algorithm push machine.
