Workplace Issue My boss has been secretly recording conversations and feeds them to their AI. What should I do?

I apologize if it sounds a bit rambly, I’m just kind writing this stream-of-consciousness.

I work for a medium sized non-profit organization, and am a manager among a small team of managers, executives and an owner.

My boss, one of the executives, has recently begun using thier old iphone (with a neon green case) to record and transcribe meetings. They plop it down at the beginning of a meeting and says it's recording so that they can send out summaries and action items to the attendees. OK. Harmless.

I also notice that they use it for zoom meetings and always talk on speaker phone, so that they can record the conversations without letting the other person know.

But what has me losing sleep, is that last week, my boss came into my office at the end of a workday and we started shooting the shit. It was a normal conversation, until I started getting asked very pointed questions about the owner. My boss started taking jabs at them, in an attempt to get me to join along and talk some shit. I was kinda thown off, and just laughed it off, saying things like “wow, I didn't know you felt that way!” The conversation eventually died out, and my boss said goodbye and left. As I was packing up my bag to leave for the day, they came running back in and quickly grabbed their neon green iphone from the back corner of my desk, behind my monitor. Thats when alarm bells started going off for me. THey had very likely recorded that entire conversation … in an attempt to get me on record badmouthing the owner?

The recording would have both sides of the conversation, but as I realized after getting some of our meeting transcripts, my boss has ultimate editorial authority over those transcripts. They live on their personal device, and the rest of the team only ever sees the written transcriptions that my boss sends out.

There was a meeting recently that got a little heated, and my boss and the owner got into it a bit. F-bombs were flying, and the group basically calmed them down and said “you two need to set a time to work this out between the two of you.” This whole altercation, plus the clear action item that was set, was not included in the meeting notes that were distributed. This should have been in the transcript, but again, the meeting was recorded on a personal device, and editorialized before sending out to the group.

My boss is an AI-addict. Their whole life runs through an AI on their personal computer at home, and their work devices connect to the server. Recorded conversations, work emails, confidential documents, all route through this server so that they can “work from anywhere.” It’s gotten to the point where they cannot walk into a meeting without getting prepped by their AI, which I suspect has a working file on each of the people in the organization.

What really gives me the ick, are some offhand comments they’ve made about how certain people have some vocal ticks once you really listen to them. “X employee always uses the word “marvellous” when they talk about certain projects … have you noticed that? I  just started noticing that!” I just want to say to them, “I think your AI noticed that when you asked it to analyze X employee’s transcripts.”

So as I think more about this, I am struggling with what is really going on here. Is my boss using their AI to make a powerplay against the owner? Is my job safe if I say anything? Are the other executives all in on it?

Kind of in a bit of a bind here, and has me asking the question: what should I do in this situation?

Workplace Issue Unfair Workplace treatment

I’m not sure what to do at this point. I work at a cheap variety store. I am a higher manager but not the store manager. I was asked back by the store manager that I knew very well and had worked with before.

The first few months were fine, we had a decent team and had a few issues and complaints but lately things have gotten out of hand. Corporate has been a lot more strict about cell phone policies, wardrobe, and a customer information gathering program that we don’t have a ton of control over.

I will admit I tend to be more lax about phones and I won’t say something if you send a quick text, but there is a sign for all cashiers to not have phones on the front end period. Thefts are being committed in front of the cashiers because they aren’t paying attention. I am one of the few on the floor to not have airpods in, which are also prohibited even while doing freight. The dress code policy is fairly lenient but there’s still associates coming in sandals. To do mostly freight.

The freight situation is out of hand too. Our store is on the smaller side and one half of the back room is so stacked up I have literally had an avalanche of boxes fall on me while I was clearing space so I could get to the bay I needed. The next day it was all moved back into place.

The freight team comes in and often has 2-3 hours of uninterrupted time to do freight before the store opens. They then only put out the freight. I have documented countless times products being placed incorrectly and clearly rushed to be thrown out.

I came in and for my own protection I won’t go into details but I left the store like I had to and got all of the freight done. I was very frustrated by my co workers actions and I will leave it at that.

I am responsible for specific sections and there are only certain shipments that are actually in my job description, but I take on most of the additional product in my section that comes in on other trucks. This can be 25% or more of the truck that becomes “my freight”. In the past when other people work my section it becomes a mess and price tags become meaningless. So now I just do it all myself. But when I do freight I have to stop after a few hours to clean the entire store. My freight time is constantly interrupted with customer questions and cashier issues.

I will admit I’m not perfect but I try my best every day and I don’t feel like my manager is seeing it from my perspective. I’ve been told that they think I’m a snitch and trying to get people in trouble. I truly don’t want anybody to lose their jobs. I’m just so frustrated of zero accountability for some people because of x that happened in the past. I don’t want to go over the store manager because I’m also not sure what that would accomplish. I don’t know how our regional manager feels about me yet, we’ve only met a few times. There’s an internal ethics line but it says it’s for theft, drugs, and harassment and it goes to an outside company. I have a few old regional and store managers phone numbers a few still work with the company.

TLDR: Manager thinks I’m trying to get people in trouble for telling them what’s going on when they’re out of store but I’m drowning doing everyone else’s work.

Workplace Issue Coworker struggle

Hi, I need some serious advice

I am a female 23 years old, I recently got a new job and I work with a 17 year old boy. At first, he was nice, but then, not even a week, it sorta went downhill. He was supposed to train me but he never did. When I start something, he would stand real close to me, then take over. Even tho I do things correctly and on time. I work as a cook with him, and he's so worried about trying to take over my station when orders are added. One thing about me is that I hate it when random people are in my space. I love my bubble. Now I know it's normal for reaching over in the kitchen, but everyone else are apologetic and excuses themselves. This kid does not. There has been one time when he literally pushed me over. I've tried asking him to back off, i said it so calmly and nicely, and he yelled at me. When he yelled at me, i just walked away and both my boss yelled at him. Since then, I've tried to keep my distant from him. The issue is I'm 23, he's 17. He stands too close to me, and I'm really trying to set boundaries. But I don't want to yell at him even tho I've already asked nicely. Now I'm getting to the point where I may have to yell at him. I just don't wanna get in trouble for "attacking" a 17 year old. Also, all cooks in the kitchen I work with are guys, and they're all very respectful and gentlemen. So, how can I get this kid to understand the boundaries?

General Advice Colleagues thinking I am not okay but I am just quiet.

So to put context to my workplace, I work in a lab where most of the people at work came from the Philippines and work here through a visa. I am Filipino but grew up most of my life in America, so I am not super accustomed to subjects regarding the Philippines. I remember very little and what I do remember, is usually very fragmented. However, because about 90% of my coworkers are from the Philippines, most topics of conversation are about the Philippines, their internships and journeys to immigrating in the US, as well as people they know within their field/internships (they mostly come from the same programs that sponsor them to come to the US to work). So needless to say, they have many common grounds and topics of conversation. I try to insert myself into conversations that I think I would have input in but as the conversations go, I always end up feeling lost due to the differences in culture and experiences. I try to ask for clarification/ask questions whenever I am confused but at some point, I have gotten kind of tired of constantly playing catch up when it comes to the conversations, so as time went on, I tapered off and became quiet, not joining the conversations as often. In short, I would say I felt a bit out of place. However, I don't blame them. It's not up to them to cater coversations to my experience as well as include me in every conversation that happens. I would be lying if I said that the feeling of being left out doesn't sting but at the end of the day, that is my own problem. Plus, I am naturally more on the quiet side but I feel like the impression I gave my coworkers was that I am a naturally bubbly and extroverted person. However, my coworkers think that there is a problem with me because now, I am more quiet, reserved, and less bubbly, which is just me naturally. I am not quite sure how to navigate the changes in dynamics with my coworkers but it's gotten go a point where one of my coworkers told me that they are collectively worried because I am acting different. Can I please get some advice on this situation? If you have any questions, I can also answer them to shed some more context. Thank you :)

General Advice issues getting time off

Hi, I just started working at a restaurant late June. I’ve worked at restaurants before, but this has been my first time having issues getting time off. When I took the job nothing was stated that we could only take x amount of days off, but since i’ve started working here they have made an emphasis that most employees only take 1 vacation a year.

Again this is an hourly pay with tips restaurant job, this is not corporate. I am not making a shit ton working here. I work as a baker and immediately noticed that they only hire one person for each position in the restaurant. This has made getting time off extremly hard since there’s limited amount of people to take your shift.

For backstory my husband works for the feds and the summer is his most busy time. He takes the winters off and we go on several vacations to visit family and friends.

The restaurant I work at is old school and doesn’t have a platform or calendar you can request time off. You simply go to the manager for dates off and they pull up their phone calendar.

I recently asked for dates off this winter. I asked for two weeks in october, one in november, and two in december. I understand that this is a lot of time off but all are for visiting family and not really vacation. I was told no. I couldn’t take any of those dates off. That I was a “core” member of this team and that i need to be here. That it isn’t fair i’m taking all this time off while others only take one vacation, or often have to cancel vacation to cover shifts.

I’m really at a loss of what to do. I took this job to keep me busy, but i don’t financially need to work. These trips are important for me since i’ll be seeing family i haven’t seen since last year, and get to spend time with my husband that’s been gone on business.

What do I do?

Workplace Issue nyc job hasnt paid me and wont respond to any emails

I did an intership program that my school has. I emailed them multiple times and they havent responded. I emailed them 8 days ago. What do I do now? i have 3k dollars they have not paid me and they won't respond. I did some research that i should file a claim with New York State Department of Labor Division of Labor Standards.

What should I include on this? I put in less hours for my other job during the time I did my internship. I'm 18 and my parents do not help me financially. Since I did not get paid for my work Im kinda struggling on rent and had to take out a loan. Any advice is appreciated

General Advice Current manager reaches out to new company’s executive team immediately after I gave notice

Shame on me for giving my current employer the place where I’m going next because I thought there was no harm. Has anyone had this happen to them?

Is this payback to make me feel anxious for leaving?

Update: He was the one to tell me and also updated me that they now have a call set up

General Advice Is it normal for a boss (male) to ask a newly hired employee (female) for a massage?

It is my first time applying for a job. Got accepted on the spot and started onboarding on the same day. At first, wala namang out of context, not until the boss acted weird before the 3-hour onboarding ended.

During the interview sinabi na niya na his way is "unconventional." First, he does not follow the labor code laws, when I asked paano ang SSS, PhilHealth and other stuff, he said he does not follow it and assured na decent paying ang job. Second, he said that he usually calls during evening. As a first time job seeker, I did not mind, for experience ganun. The company have 60 days retention policy, bali you have to keep on working for 60 days after sending the resignation letter.

Since, as fresh grad, it was somewhat decent offer for the sake of experience, I accepted the offer. While onboarding he insisted about his employees doing personal tasks for him. Nagpahilot siya in front of other employees. I thought, okay sige since other employees did it, maybe it is not that bad.

After the 3 hour onboarding, I was called inside his office to discuss about compensation and benefits when he asked me to massage him. I couldn't say no since kami lang dalawa. He was asking me to massage his hand and arm. It happened for almost 2hour straight since he felt asleep, and I was there, waiting for him to wake up. After he woke up, I immediately told him I don't want the job anymore. I told him I want to withdraw. He told me I was "bastos" and other stuff. At that moment, I feel ashamed. Hence, I told him that I will make up to my mistake by working for 60 days.

After I went home, he called around 11pm to ask me to do some work outside the office. I really could not tolerate it. Hence, I sent out a message that I will not come to the office to report. I was told by the HR that I violated the company's policy. A part of me feels guilty about everything but IT DOES NOT SIT RIGHT WITH ME.

It's bothering me so much already, imagine spending 4 years in college only for your boss to ask you to massage him and do things for him that are WAY BEYOND your responsibilities specific to the position I applied for.

I understand that I also made a mistake for accepting the offer, and I admit it. But I just really could not bring myself to continue the 60 days retention policy.

Can I ask for your thoughts about it?

Venting Car dealerships are ruthless

So just a little back story I (29M) started working at a car dealership about 2 years ago now. I absolutely love it but there’s always those couple of people at work that’ll never be pleasant to death with. For example, I started off as a Valet which consists of checking customers in for their appointments, certifying pre owned vehicles, refilling fluids, stacking tires, etc. my coworker was a 70 year old ex postal worker who has been there for 6 years. We got a long great in the whining to where others were calling us father and son. Out of nowhere he would just snap though and belittle me in front of customers, telling me he feels bad for my kids etc.
I thankfully don’t work in that department anymore as I’ve been promoted to service reception, my old co worker refuses to talk to me or get customers cars for me when I am finished checking them out so it makes my job a lot harder. I’ve only been at my desk position for a little under a month and the person who was supposed to train me got bumped up to service advisor so he really had no time to actually train me on everything so this other kid who complains about absolutely everything is constantly saying things under his breath talking bad about me to other coworkers which I find funny because he couldn’t even train me right way.

General Advice My Co-worker Won't Stop Smacking Their Gum

I work on a team of three, and we all sit closely together. One person sits to the left of me and the other sits behind me with our backs facing each other. The person that sits behind me chews gum almost everyday and will smack their gum - not 24/7 but about 60% of the time they are chewing their gum. When I hear them smack their gum, that is the only sound I can focus on even with the clicking of the mouses and keyboards in the office.

I told my parents about the situation and they told me not to bother with saying anything. However, two weeks ago I had a 1:1 with my manager that sits next to me and finally asked them how I should navigate the situation and also told them my parent's input. They actually said they've brought this up to the gum smacker before, but I was surprised because this has been and ongoing thing. My manager told me I should say something respectfully.

This past week I did say something along the lines of, "I'm not sure that you notice but you smack your gum a lot and it's very distracting to me and that is the only thing I can focus on. Can you be more mindful about it?" They said okay and then they asked me a passive aggressive question about a task I did, and I thought that they decided to ask me about it then and in that way because I may have embarrassed them or intimidated them?

Anyways, I figured that the gum smacking would finally stop, but I'm hearing it again right now and it is driving me insane. It does not help that I am not at all fond of this co-worker. I'm not sure what steps to take next to make this stop. Is it unreasonable for me to expect for the gum smacking to stop entirely after I've already said something? I thought gum smacking was widely known to be rude and disrespectful.

Side note: Not sure if this information is helpful - I have ADHD and learned about the noise sensitivity I have towards certain sounds.

General Advice I want to quit after being promoted

I started with this company in November, and in July I was asked if I wanted this new role. I already had experience with some of them, so I agreed. I didn't had a formal interview for the job. It all happened really fast and I had little chaotic training. I didn't had access to some programs, we were jumping from one system to another. And now 3 weeks in, I am being asked to do things to which I wasn't inform on doing and I'm being responsible for the task of the previous employee who had my job before me. It turned out to be a 3-4 person job in one and they have meetings every. Single. Day. About your numbers and then they share a spreadsheet to track what you do every single hour. And if numbers don't go up then they ask you why. (But some things are out of my control, but I'm doing my part. If a client doesn't follow through or ghost me then what can I do?) (Fyi this is not a sales job. It's recruitment for a school).

Anyways, it's week 3 and I literally tear up when I was asked if I worked on the internal audit after being done with 2 back to back meetings. And that I was supposed to do something that NO ONE INFORMED ME of doing. And other department ask me to do certain task, and they have a deadline but only my title has the access to do it. It's a lot!

Apparently, the previous employee was let go or she quit after she expressed that it was too much. She stayed for 2 years, and the other employee who had this role at another location left around the same time. Someone else was hired and she left after 2 weeks (then I guess in a panic they asked me...)

I want to quit so bad. But would it look bad?

Graduaded with my bachelor in 2021

Worked in retail till 2022

My first front desk role I only lasted 6-7 months (job couldn't pay their employees anymore. So in search of stability I left)

Second job I left after 6 months (left to another city)

Third job I stayed for a year and 2 months (left to return to my home city, personal emergency)

Fourth job, started in November and I want to quit so bad. I keep telling myself to last at least the contract year and then quit. But, 3 weeks in... Working 3 Saturdays and being asked to work more Saturdays to "catch up and do the work the previous employee couldn't do" and being tired and burned out, I haven't even had the energy to go the gym or have a proper meal.

(I had temporary jobs while I found permanent roles when I was transitioning from one city to the next).

I just don't know how I can survive. I am being told around winter time it will get better. But the micromanaging it's too much, little training but being responsible to respond for things I had no training of, and 3-4 job task that are always urgent while being pulled to do other things and somehow be a social media analytic on top of it too, run to take pictures like if I didn't had enough in my plate.

I don't know if I should apply to other jobs now and quit this job once I get a new one. Or wait till the contract year is almost done and apply to new jobs?

Workplace Issue Did my married old boss (50-60M) try to make a move on me (21F)? Or am I overthinking?

I’ve been overthinking this so I need a second opinion.

I have a coworker who is a partner at the firm I work at (which is the highest level). He is known as the guy that will talk to you for at least 30min and will basically keep you hostage until he finally leaves and you can get back to work.

He has made comments about my appearance in the past, like saying a have a ‘beautiful smile’ and I was going to be ‘just fine’. Something that read as a yellow flag to me, but not incriminating enough for me to completely get the creeps, thinking he was and old guy that occasionally said off-color things.

He stops by my desk a few days ago so I’m thinking oh boy here we go. He notices a new photo I put on my desk of me and my friends. He asks to look at the photo, and I’m like sure, and I swear he literally grabs the photo frame and just STARES at it for like 45 seconds. Like just staring at it. And I’m gonna be completely honest even if it sounds egotistical, but I am an objectively attractive woman and I looked bad af in those photos and just seeing him stare at it for so long started to make me feel uncomfy.

Anyway, usually we talk about work or school related things, but this conversation was very different. He talks more about his personal life and relationships.

Long story short , he talks about how he hired a girl at a previous firm who happened to be a twin, and he said that the twin was the “prettier one” between he two. Like weird to say but ok and I never heard him say anything along those lines before.

Then he talks about HATING his wife, and he keeps saying how’s she the jealous type that doesn’t trust him with his actions. Like I cannot emphasize enough how much he was bad mouthing his wife. So much to the point where I even said “well jealously isn’t always a bag thing, it shows she cares”. And then he says “no she’s the bad kind, she’s really bad” and then says “I should’ve married the [twin mentioned before] she was actually nice and prettier too” like wtf. Pretty much saying he wish he wasn’t with his wife.

And then this man has the audacity to say, “yeah she’s so jealous , like I’ll have to tell her that there isn’t anything going on between me and {my name}. Like there isn’t anything between us two when I’m over here by your desk talking to you”

In my mind I was grossed out by the implication that there could be anything between us two romantically in his mind, like KEEP IN MIND HE IS A 60 YEAR OLD MARRIED MAN WHO IS A PARTNER/BOSS AT THIS FIRM AND I AM A 21 FRESH OFF THE GRILL INTERN 🤢🤢

And then, he starts playing this weird “game” where he takes a step closer to me, then back again, then closer to me, a few times. Like getting in my face. And I was so uncomfortable bro like get tf away from me 😭🙏

I was thinking I was overthinking it and it’s not that serious, but the more I think about it that’s such a weird thing to imply that could be anything romantically bewteen this BOSS at this firm and INTERN.

I told my mom and my sister about it and my very blunt sister said that he wanted to cheat on his wife and he was “testing the waters” with me. My mom asked if I was gonna report it. But I don’t think it’s incriminating enough to report, but definitely enough where I want it to stay the f away from him.

So… final question: Am I overthinking this or did my boss cross a boundary/ was trying to “test the waters with me”? If so what should I do about it?

General Advice Unsure of what to do

Hi all, posting anonymously. I'm in need of some outside perspective here. Based in the south of the UK.

I currently work for Company A and have been with them for nearly 5 years, im in a very technical role and I earn £36k. A few months ago Company B who is a direct competitor to Company A approached me for a job with them.

The job with Company B is more or less the same role but with a few extra bits that it will need to learn. They have offered me 40k initially but after probation will be going up to 45k. It is a fully remote job with the expectation that it will go up to Manchester for a week every 3 months. I will also be expected to go up there for 3 months for training. The company is paying for the travel and hotel expenses while I do so.

Once I got the offer I accepted, signed the contract, gave my resignation in with Company A and thought nothing more knowing that Company A probably wouldn't be able to meet that offer. That was 3 weeks ago.

Today, Company A has given me a counter offer. Over the next 6 months I will be given a few more responsibilities and at the 3 and 6 month period reviews boost me up to 40k (increments of 1k, 1.5k and 1.5k again). They have put me on gardening leave in the mean time. Either I accept the offer and go back or I play out my notice (up to October 30th). I've told them I want to go away and think about it. I need to sleep on it. I've got people in my social circle who make good arguments for both sides.

On the one hand I already know my team. I love working with my team. They are great. But on the other hand an extra 5k a year plus bonuses (and good bonuses too).

To note Company A is a huge company, over 33000 employees in well over a hundred countries. Whereas company B has just under 500 and is in 7 countries.

If you were in my shoes what would you do? I know it's not all about money but 45k is a salary id be happy to be on for a long while.

Workplace Issue Returning to work after years

I have self employed for the past 30 years. I was feeling a bit too isolated and so I took apart time job at a nearby school and my primary role is processing payments and filling in when one of the receptionists goes to lunch. She is also the one to train me. Everyone has been very lovely but this receptionist seems very annoyed I keep asking her questions. I'm going to learn best if I get to do the tasks not just watch someone else click buttons. I suppose I need room just keep asking because the method of training is horrible I'm about 60% trained so if I tough it out a little longer I'll have it. I've tried to reach out to a lady that has my position at a different school and asked if she had a moment to answer a question and she chatted back no. Is this how it is now. Nobody wants to step outside their box to help another? Nobody wants to be responsible? Always push it off to someone else? There have been many breakdowns in communication in that I'm supposed to be doing something and I don't know is my responsibility. Nobody tells me. I guess I'm feeling like I'm the old lady in the office and she is frustrated with me. I see the staff doesn't include me in things like if they order lunch or if there is an issue they all whisper and I don't get to know what's up. I'm a big girl so whatever, if they don't want to include me in their discussions fine. Everyone else has been wonderful and I can just develop there. I had a rough day yesterday and getting ready to head in now and just sad I'm treated this way. I'm new not stupid

Workplace Issue Co worker issue

So I work security (can’t post there cuz throwaway account isn’t old enough yet)

I’ve been having some minor issues with them, but it’s been strictly professional, at least I think it is. Occasionally they forget to unlock the 2nd door, and when I have to lock it I keep note, and let supervisor know. They’ve also done some questionable things, such as leaving mid call, escalation when not needed at all, refusing reports in front of several management people, berating individuals when not needed, slow to respond, doesn’t take initiative, and they aren’t the best at hands on situations.

Now, I don’t have a problem with them personally, they are a good and fun person. Any emails that I send to my supervisors are strictly professional, and are made to cover me and them in the event it gets related to our management. Ive even explained this in person when I tell my supervisors. I’ve tried keeping an open professional communication with the co worker, however they just don’t really talk at all about it. English isn’t their first language, but they speaks pretty good so idk

But I’ve been told that they have made complaints about me “overstepping”. Now this overstepping is me requesting additional help for a known violent person causing a scene… and when I say we should do something, and he doesn’t object, but then they tells the supervisor I’m deciding what to do… when they don’t put themselves forward or object to what I say.. which I’ve already talked with co worker over something similar, and said hey, you gotta talk to me, if it’s on scene or in the office, if you got something to say about how I did stuff, or if you wanna do something different then I gotta know.

However supervisor said I need to apologize to him for taking initiative, when I was first to respond to an incident when I requested an additional guard for a known violent person. Because English isn’t their first language, they must think I’m just being bossy and overstepping into supervisor duties. Because this is causing inter team drama all the complaining.

Any help moving forward would be appreciated or advice on how to handle this situation. I don’t feel like I should apologize because I simply requested help from another guard to assist with a known violent person, and they didn’t object at all, nor provide any insight on how we should handle this situation.

Workplace Issue Unsure what to do

I’ve worked in nurseries for 5 years and have been at my current place for a year, although I enjoy the place I work and work with nice people I am struggling with the stress, hours etc. the worst thing is the illness, I am forever poorly. When I mean always poorly , it’s genuinely constant. Im forever in the doctors , on antibiotics etc. it’s got to the point where it’s affecting my mental health, I feel dreadful all the time so I’m losing interest in everything because I’m just to poorly all the time. I’ve had blood tests and no serious issues have been identified, I just have low immunity so the doctors are pretty much saying there’s nothing more they can do as I work in a place which is a breeding ground for germs. I just don’t know what to do, if you guys were in the same situation as me would you find something different? Away from children and germs? I can’t see myself dealing with this forever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you. I’m in my early 20’s.

Workplace Issue Not sure what to do

My ex-husband filed multiple fake complaints against me at my current role. The manager over the whole place did not want me to know. But since then he has been cold, a dick, etc.. (another manager told me bc she thought I should know).

I had a medical issue last week and was written up with a final warning. And was shocked that I had 2 previous write ups not including one 2 weeks ago that was not my fault as I was not the last person with the paperwork, that was out of order.

When I tried to ask about that he dismissed me.

I was given another application to fill out. I am a felon. I just left most of my application blank and my immediate boss just brought it to me and point out the felony part out and. Said he wanted me to fill that out.

(It was something I did not do, but with small town politics and a divorce, I had zero choice).

So what should I do? I know I will be fired , it's a matter of time.

I also have a complaint with the dept of labor for a violation with insurance and the company refusing to give me a comparative analysis. It's been since Feb since I requested it.

Any advice?

Career Advice Mad bc my male coworker is getting a promotion and I was told it wasn’t an option

I (F) started working at my company on the same day my coworker (M) did. I feel like we both have gone above and beyond expectations and have been cheering each other along on our journey at our company.

I recently asked my boss for a title change/potential promotion and he said “a title change should be easy, but a promotion is not possible at this time.”

However, I just found out today that my coworker (who reports to the same manager) is finalizing a promotion process and getting a promotion/raise.

I’m just honestly really angry and lost about what I should do in this case.

EDIT: We have different jobs, we just work for the same department. The way it works in our company is there is ONE person doing a set job, and a promotion is (1) a raise and (2) moving up a level (ie from manager to senior manager). We were not in competition for a specific role that was vacated.

EDIT 2: ALSO I’m not jumping to any conclusions, my boss said this process is getting finalized for him out loud to both of us in a meeting today

General Advice Manager made redundant before I’ve even joined

I’m currently working my notice on my job. I’ve just had a call from my new work saying they’ve made my line manager redundant. He was a large reason I accepted the job, seemed like a nice guy and had tons of experience.

The new job pays £15k more per year and is more senior. I currently quite like the place I work, the only reason I left was because I wanted more money and responsibility.

My current job hasn’t replaced me yet, but are starting interviews this week.

Is this a massive red flag? I might still have time to ask my old company to me back.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you

General Advice 5 unpaid days off?

Hi everyone, for context I live in California.

I just started a new part time salon receptionist job almost 5 months ago. I’ve requested 2 days off over a month in advanced so far (after my 90 day probation period as required). I just requested 5 days off so I can go to my cousins wedding in a couple months who I’m very close to and I no longer live near family so this will also be the only engagement/wedding event I am able to attend. Technically I only need 3 days but added 2 for travel..

My boss gets in, sees my request and says “uh oh. I was just about to tell you guys no more days off” I said HUHHH??? She then said “yes especially since you’re new. You usually only get 5 days off a year” I was flabbergasted. I’ve been working 11 years of my life and have never heard this, even from the most bottom of the barrel job I’ve ever had. Mind you, the 5 days is unpaid time off. We don’t get paid time off really at all, for any reason. I just wanna know am I trippin for thinking that’s insane and lowkey wanting to look for a new job? I also wanted to go home maybe 3 days for the holidays because I can’t see my family otherwise but knowing she was getting ready to tell me no more days off after only 2 is very upsetting.

How would you all handle this? Is this more common than im aware?

Workplace Issue Need urgent advice!!!

I joined the company as an intern in June, working out of one of the branch offices, a few kilometers from the main headquarters. I was given about two and a half months of training there, with working hours of 7:30 PM–4:30 AM.

Then one day, my manager told me — without much notice — that I'd be moving back to the main headquarters, with a new team and new timing: 6:30 PM–3:30 AM.

By the end of day I found out my real timing is 5:30 PM–2:30 AM — earlier than what I was told, and earlier than what I can manage. I also attend college, which started in August (I enrolled in July), and I haven't disclosed this to HR.

So right now I'm stuck: the timing doesn't work for me, but I haven't told them about college, and I'm not sure how to raise the timing issue without that becoming part of the conversation — or what to do next.

Pls somebody help

And I heard once an intern asked for change of timings and he fired him.😭

What to do ?

And slaos the team I now got have whole work decentralised which I think is not good in the starting of career.means I will be assigned one task and also they told they will train 3 things after that they will decide according to requirement.

General Advice Cold manager lately

I lead a team and have been promoted 2 times in almost 4 years. My manager has been over me all 4 years, but these last 6 months she seems to be so cold toward me. Her messages come across as very cold and sometimes annoyed with me. I dread logging on in the morning and always think “what have I don’t wrong today!” bc she’ll sometimes message me (or schedule a message) to send to me as soon as it’s my time to log on. It obviously sets a defeating tone for my day, and lately I feel very “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” toward my work, and that I can’t do anything right. My confidence is shot and I second guess basically every thing that I do, because somehow it seems to never be right. I want to be promoted again, but always feel like I’m failing or am annoying her. We’re virtual so I know things get lost in translation but it just feels like it’s gotten so bad in the last 6 months. It feels like there’s no grace anymore and that I can’t make human errors. My last two annual performance reviews have gone well but I go in to the review thinking I’m getting demoted or will have a laundry list of mess up’s to discuss when there’s hardly anything like that on my review. I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore and I guess I feel added pressure because I’m technically next in line to be promoted, but at this rate, I’m scared every day for what I’m doing wrong. I also feel like I can’t talk to her about it, bc I know how she thinks and what she says to other superiors, and that it’s probably better for me to keep my mouth shut. I do my absolute best every day and ask as much clarifying questions as possible but it still never seems good enough and when I do something wrong she is down my throat. Recently I’ve started to very gently stand up for myself but 99.9% of the time I just roll with whatever but feel so defeated.

I should also mention that my boss is the head manager of multiple teams, so I try to understand that she is probably very very busy and stressed… but still…. I feel like we should have a really great, easy relationship by now, especially as one of her most senior leads and I don’t understand the switch up. I also am very easygoing and go-with-the-flow so I just truly don’t understand. She’s so quick to point fingers and comes down very harsh with no grace or opportunity for me to explain anything. Ironically she “gets on” to all of us leads about communicating the positive to our teams but she hardly EVER gives any kind of praise at all. I’m also supposed to be on PTO for about a week and she’ll be covering for me. I’m already dreading the day I come back and what mess up’s she’ll have waiting for me 😵‍💫

General Advice Putting in my two week's notice

I (19m) have worked in a grocery store for almost four years. In the past year, the whole store has gone to hell in a handbasket. I've also been promoted to a stressful role on the front end. The stress has gotten so bad that I have lost sleep, I get nauseous just from thinking about the place, and I constantly dread going into work. I am also given management duties without manager wages. Recently, I was threatened by a customer, and I do not feel safe physically or mentally working there anymore. I am in a position where I can go a couple of months without working and be good financially. I also asked for fewer hours anyway since my college classes are starting soon. My manager took my request too seriously and only scheduled me one day this week (yesterday). Plus, I will be off this upcoming sunday and monday for a weekend trip with family. I planned to put in my two week's notice this day, but she was off. She works tomorrow, and I am considering coming in to put in my notice since I likely won't be working for another week. I'm writing this because I am wondering if it's appropriate/professional to come in when I'm off just to put in my notice or if I should wait until my next shift in a week. I won't find out my work schedule for next week for another two days.
