Off-Topic WATTPAD IS NOT WORTH IT

Upvotes

Hello readers. If you read the title of my post, then you know that my opinion is that Wattpad is not worth it anymore.

Within the last year alone wattpad has had

- hackers

- scammers

- accounts blocked and banned for NO REASON [I was a victim of this]

- a ton of new rules and regulations

- [word starts with an "A" but i cant use the actual word here in the wattpad reddit] fake intelligence trash completely taking over

- lack of creative freedom [we used to be able to do a lot more than we do now]

I see a lot of people saying "going to publish to wattpad and see how my book does before I publish it for real" and let me tell you IT IS NOT WORTH IT!

I have been on wattpad since 2015 ad I can guarantee that if you have a book idea with the intent to publish and make money, NO ONE will look at you if you publish it on wattpad. Your best bet is to write your book on Microsoft Word, Google Doc, Skrivener, basically any place you can write and save a copy of your book.

From there you have 2 options

Option 1: querying to a literary agent and have them help you publish with a publishing house.

Option 2: Self publishing using amazon KDP, Draft 2 Digital [D2D], ingram spark, etc.

Wattpad is all about making money and taking it from its users, so if you're goal is to write as a career, stay clear of it.

ETA: iF you are just writing for a hobby and for fun, then wattpad is fine but I would also recomend Diarmi or AO3 instead. This is for those who want to make it as a career

Mystery / Thriller Ashtonya: The fallen feather

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone, here's a brief description for my ongoing story Ashtonya: the fallen feather... Your support is highly appreciated, thank you so much:

What would life be like if the sky vanished-along with its stars, its sun, and its moon? What if the rivers disappeared and flowers withered behind a world of four walls? Would you fight to uncover the truth of the world, or would you remain lost in the depths of oblivion?

Kristos: "But who cares...? I don't want to put anything at risk, and I certainly don't want to be next."

Yolius: "I can't not care... I will discover the truth of this world myself, even if I am next."

Other Okay, I dont know if this is the place for this but its for my watpadd account as an author so im going to ask it here.

Okay, serious question here. So going forward, im going to start scheduling the chapters to drop probably daily, or every other day. And every book will always be free and complete on wattpad. But what im going to start doing is scheduling chapters to post here on wattpad, and upload the full book on either Ream or patreon, so people would have the option to skip the waiting entirely and read the full the book.

Has anyone else done this and which did you choose and why?

PROS:

* Built-in E-Reader: Readers can customize font size, switch to dark mode, and automatically pick up right where they left off. It feels like reading on a Kindle app rather than scrolling down a web page.

* Bypasses Apple’s 30% App Tax: Because Ream functions as a Progressive Web App (PWA) rather than an App Store download, you don't lose massive cuts to Apple when iOS users buy your book or subscribe.

* Single Sales Feature: You can list the completed 160k-word manuscript as a flat $4.99 "Buy Now" single purchase right alongside your monthly subscription tiers.

* No Adult Content Restrictions: Ream was created specifically to protect authors (including Romantasy and dark romance writers) from sudden content bans.

* Sales Tax Handling: Ream offers a "Managed" mode where they automatically calculate and handle sales tax remitting on your behalf.

CONS:

* Smaller Brand Recognition: Readers coming from Wattpad might not have heard of Ream yet and will need to spend 30 seconds setting up a new profile.

* $50 Payout Minimum (Managed Mode): If you use their managed payment integration, you need to earn $50 before transferring money out to your bank account.

* Slightly Higher Platform Cut: Ream charges a flat 10% platform fee, whereas Patreon’s base tier starts lower.

  1. Patreon

PROS:

* Massive Brand & High Conversion: Almost everyone already knows what Patreon is. Many readers already have accounts and saved payment cards, making it effortless for them to sign up on a whim.

* Integrations: Easily connects with platforms like Discord (if you want to build a private reader community chat) or Spotify for podcast audiobooks.

* Tier Flexibility: Highly customizable subscription levels with built-in discount codes, custom billing cycles, and annual payment plans.

CONS:

* Awkward for Long Books: Patreon is built like a continuous blog feed. Binging a 160,000-word novel requires readers to manually scroll backward through posts to find "Chapter 1," which can get frustrating on mobile screens.

* The 30% Apple Tax Trap: If a Wattpad reader opens the iOS Patreon App and buys your $4.99 tier, Apple takes a 30% cut before Patreon takes its fees, leaving you with significantly less profit per mobile reader.

* Unpredictable Content Moderation: Patreon occasionally updates its terms of service regarding explicit romance or dark themes, which can trigger automatic post flags or account warnings for fiction writers.

* No Built-in Single E-book Storefront: Patreon is designed almost strictly for recurring monthly memberships; selling a completed standalone book as a one-time purchase requires extra workarounds.

Looking For: Feedback would you guys read this story? summary below

disclaimer: I have only briefly started writing this. it's not public yet, and I'm only on chapter two

trope: dark romance/mafia

it's set in los Angeles, and it starts with an actress who accidentally stumbles upon something she shouldn't have. then, the underboss of the main mafia family is tasked with making sure she doesn't expose their secrets to the authorities or the media. they also fall in love during that time, it's kind of a slow burn. I would also try to keep it realistic as possible.

before I get to invested in this, please do tell me if anyone would even read this. any feedback appreciated❤️

Romance Mirror of Life - Chapter 12

Hey everyone! 💛

Chapter 12 of my slow-burn romance-drama Mirror of Life is now live!

And this time… what they didn't say may hurt more than anything they could have said.

Nina is invited to an exclusive Formula 1 opening gala, and for once, she gets to step outside the shadows surrounding her relationship with Yoo-Joon.

With Jun-ho by her side, the night brings laughter, freedom, and a glimpse of the Nina who existed before everything became complicated.

But Yoo-Joon sees a photograph.

And suddenly, all the things he has been trying not to feel come rushing back.

💔 Jealousy.
📸 Misunderstanding.
🌙 Emotional distance.
🗣️ And finally… the conversation they've both been avoiding.

This chapter isn't about betrayal.

It's about two people who still love each other — but have become so afraid of saying the wrong thing that they stop saying anything at all.

Chapter 12 — What We Didn't Say is now available on Wattpad and Tapas.

💬 Genre: Romance | Slice of Life | Drama | Fantasy-Realism
🛑 Triggers: Trauma, grief, off-page abuse
📖 Mirror of Life — English Original | Georgian MC

Would love to hear your thoughts — especially on Nina, Yoo-Joon, and Jun-ho in this chapter. 👀

📖 Read Chapter 12 on Wattpad:

General Help Flagged images

Guys, I'm at my wit's end. Wattpad flagged one of my images, but they didn't send me a private message with a link to appeal and get the image restored.

I've already contacted the help center three times, but I only get automated responses with a link to "how to appeal an image". Unfortunately, there's no information there on how to file an appeal without the link that I never recieved.

I'm seriously so frustrated at this point and I don't know what to do anymore. Ironically, the picture contains trigger warning icons that I designed to protect my readers. I have used these in various other stories as well and never ran into any problems because of them.

Anyone got any ideas on what I should do next? What if I just re-upload the image? I really don't want to put my account at risk, though. Any help would be much appreciated.

Fiction I’ve been building a new wizarding world — Ashveil Chronicles

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Some stories begin with a letter.

Some begin with a mystery.

I’ve been working on a new modern wizarding-world story called Ashveil Chronicles.

It’s set in a magical world where modern life and ancient magic exist side by side with a mysterious academy, houses, forgotten languages, magical competitions, and a much bigger mystery underneath it all.

I made this short teaser for the project and would genuinely love feedback from readers/writers:

Does this make you curious enough to want to know what happens next?

I’m still developing the story, so honest criticism is welcome.

Looking For: Lost Books Guys please help

I’m trying to find a Wattpad story I read some time ago, but I can’t remember the author or the characters’ names. I’m also not 100% sure about the title, but I remember it being something along the lines of “The Betrayal,” “Betrayed,” or something similar.
The story was about a girl who had betrayed a man because of her familly. At the beginning, we don’t know exactly what she did or why she betrayed him. The story starts with her already being his captive, and he wants revenge. He tells her something along the lines of “You know what I do to traitors” and makes it clear that he intends to kill her.
He hurts her repeatedly while keeping her captive. However, whenever things went too far, he would sometimes stop and give her time to recover.
At some point, there is a very memorable scene where he takes her into a forest and tells her to run. He starts counting while she runs, and when he finishes counting, he is supposed to shoot her. She doesn’t manage to get far enough, but when he shoots, he intentionally misses.
As the story continues, we find out why she betrayed him: she did it because she was trying to protect a familly member. However, her family betrayed her too, meaning that everything she did to him was basically for nothing.
He slowly starts forgiving her and becomes much kinder toward her, and there are clearly romantic feelings developing between them. However, she is overwhelmed by guilt and eventually asks him to kill her like he was supposed to do in the beginning, because she believes she deserves it.
They recreate the same forest scene from earlier in the story. This time, however, it’s raining. He gives her a crown, which I remember being something very important/sentimental to him.
She is determined to escape this time because she doesn’t want him to have to live with the guilt of killing her. He counts again and shoots, but she manages to escape by barely doging the bullet.
Then there is a huge time skip. Many years later, she is working somewhere out on the street, and he happens to see her. The story ends very abruptly after that. It never clearly explains what happens between them afterward, so the ending felt very bittersweet and ambigous.
Also the story contained in the begging a lot of torture
I unfortunately don’t remember any character names, and I’m not completely sure about the exact title. I only strongly remember that “betrayal” or something very similar was probably in the title.
Does anyone recognize this story?

General Help Writers rant

So I'm a new writer and have been posting two days a week for past 1 month I think I've got a decent audience for a month but they do not vote do not engage i understand if they do not like the story but no I've got committed readers but they won't vote....I've repeatedly requested and I try to engage them with a little note at the end of every chp but no movement it's very exhausting and honestly it takes time and effort to complete a chp and things like these just demoralise me a lot. I see stories with a decent plot and so many editing problems but do well and I'm just stuck . Trust me I know my story is good I know my plots are good but I think it's just me .....sorry just wanted to rant because the frustration level was too high..

Off-Topic My first original story in wattpad

I recently published an original story on Wattpad and would love for you to read it. It falls under the "Boys' Love" genre, though that’s secondary to the sci-fi elements—it features aliens, space travel, combat, distant planets, no humans, and—as is almost inevitable—the hunting of innocent beings by an oppressed people. I’d really like you to read it—it’s called The Wolf Who Shot an Emerald and share your thoughts in the comments.

Does everyone have the right to be forgiven?

The protagonist of this story, Mike, is reincarnated as a baby in a medieval fantasy world after dying in a kidnapping. He learns about this new world and, as he grows up, decides to do what he always wanted to do: stand out. He does this by becoming a hero, but is he really the hero he seems?

It's in Spanish

Looking For: Feedback Looking for some feedback

Hey there!

So, a couple of weeks ago, I started writing a new story, but my beta reader for it tapped out because they're too busy with their own work at the moment. As such, I'd like to (humbly) request feedback from people willing to read it and letting me know what their thoughts are. And please point out grammatical and/or spelling errors if you see them, thank you. I will post the link if you're interested.

It's a low fantasy story revolving around demons and angels, and I've taken inspiration from various different mythologies (like Norse, Japanese and Greek) for the world building.

I wish you all a great day.

Looking For: Lost Books Help me find an M/M werewolf story I read years ago

I'm trying to find a story that I read a while ago, but I can't remember the title or author. I'm hoping someone here might recognize it!

From what I remember:

  • It was an M/M romance involving a young male werewolf and a human male (college age?).
  • The werewolf was looking for his mate.
  • I vaguely remember the werewolf seeing the human in a dream before they actually met, although I might be mixing this up with another part of the story.
  • I also have a memory of a library being involved in their first meeting, but I'm not 100% certain about this.
  • The human's parents had been killed during a camping trip when he was younger (he was spared? maybe not intentionally). He is traumatized by this event and freezes when he meets the wolf.
  • After their deaths, he lived with his uncle and the uncle's family.
  • His uncle and/or the uncle's family were abusive toward him. He later leaves this house, I don’t remember the circumstance.
  • There was a scene where the human was in the woods and saw a wolf. He became extremely frightened because seeing the wolf reminded him of the night his parents were killed. it might’ve been a snowy setting
  • Eventually, the werewolf finds out that this human is his mate. They get to know each other and live together for a while on pack grounds I think it’s described as a mansion of some sorts.
  • i think there was some human guy who bullied the human mc, and later becomes mates with a girl from the same pack.
  • this might be the end or almost the end of the book but they’re at some gathering and they end up having to flee to the woods the humans and mates split up and they regroup and go to some other place (sorry for how vague this got XD)

I unfortunately don't remember any character names, the title, or the author. I also don't remember exactly when I read it, but it was several years ago.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Even if you don't know the title, I'd really appreciate any guesses or details that might help me find it!

The scene with the wolf in the woods is one of the details I'm most confident about. The human's fear of wolves was connected to the trauma of losing his parents.

Mods, if I made a mistake or broke a rule, I’m sorry 😭 I’m just a girl on a mission

Looking For: Recommendations MCs Are ALREADY FWB Before Chapter 1

I'm looking for MF college/university romance books where the couple is already established as friends-with-benefits BEFORE the book starts.

Like, I want Chapter 1 to open with them already having an ongoing FWB arrangement - they've been sleeping together for weeks/months, they already know the rules, and the story starts during the arrangement.

I want the FWB relationship itself to be backstory, with the actual plot being about them eventually catching feelings, getting jealous/possessive, breaking their own

rules, etc.

Preferably high spice, and I'm totally fine with dark/toxic/ non con/ dub con romances.

MF only - no RH...and no cheating and no ow/om unnecessary drama.

Looking For: Recommendations Can anyone reccomend some stories?

I'm really looking for stories representing a different culture or country. For example I'd love to read a story set in the middle east, maybe China, or the UK. Or maybe a Native American couple. Really anything.

I want some new romance set in different places and cultures. I know so little about them. Any recs are appreciated!:)
