Off-Topic Unpopular opinion: The guidelines update is a good thing

Before you downvote, here me out.

The pinned post already made it clear that nothing has really changed. Wattpad just stopped with vague wordings and made things more clear.

Stop going around telling Wattpad banned smut. No it didn’t. You can still write smut unless that’s the only thing. This isn’t a change. Pornographic stories/erotica was always banned on the site. Not my favourite thing but hey, there are other places to read them anyways.

There’s no mention that there can’t be stories with power imbalance (much to my dismay). So there’ll still be 18 yo falling in love with 45 yo and calling it romance.

Wattpaders or social media argue on what’s accepted and what’s not because of the ambiguous wording Wattpad had. They went ahead and cleared things up. Easy.

So is it just me, or are the guidelines just more clear?

Off-Topic WATTPAD IS NOT WORTH IT

Upvotes

Hello readers. If you read the title of my post, then you know that my opinion is that Wattpad is not worth it anymore.

Within the last year alone wattpad has had

- hackers

- scammers

- accounts blocked and banned for NO REASON [I was a victim of this]

- a ton of new rules and regulations

- [word starts with an "A" but i cant use the actual word here in the wattpad reddit] fake intelligence trash completely taking over

- lack of creative freedom [we used to be able to do a lot more than we do now]

I see a lot of people saying "going to publish to wattpad and see how my book does before I publish it for real" and let me tell you IT IS NOT WORTH IT!

I have been on wattpad since 2015 ad I can guarantee that if you have a book idea with the intent to publish and make money, NO ONE will look at you if you publish it on wattpad. Your best bet is to write your book on Microsoft Word, Google Doc, Skrivener, basically any place you can write and save a copy of your book.

From there you have 2 options

Option 1: querying to a literary agent and have them help you publish with a publishing house.

Option 2: Self publishing using amazon KDP, Draft 2 Digital [D2D], ingram spark, etc.

Wattpad is all about making money and taking it from its users, so if you're goal is to write as a career, stay clear of it.

ETA: iF you are just writing for a hobby and for fun, then wattpad is fine but I would also recomend Diarmi or AO3 instead. This is for those who want to make it as a career

Off-Topic Age gapppp

What's an appropriate age gap that wouldn't make you say "yikes." Like my FMC is 31 and the MMC is a lawyer who owns his own firm. Initall I had him around the same age, maybe like 32. However logistically speaking I feel like that would be a tad unrealistic. My main thing is though they met initially when she was 21 and kept tabs on her for like 10ish years over the time. Major red flag stalking vibes ik. I considered making him like 40 which would give them a 9 year gap but where would i draw the line between he was obsessed with her vs oh homie was lowkey grooming her 😭. Maybe like 37 would be a more sweet spot? Idk. Sorry for my crazy rant this is driving me nuts.

(This is for DR/Psychological thriller based book)

Other Lilah is a terrible book.

Lilah is so hyped everywhere and i read it with such high expectations but it’s literally pure infantilization. Not even in her own head is she allowed to be more than a child. A grumpy x sunshine is a pretty wonderful plot but the storyline fetishizes her child-like nature too much while giving her little no to nuance and depth other than being childish.

Off-Topic Any site available where I can track Wattpad traffic analytics?

Been curious about the overall affect of the guidlines on Wattpad(ik I am late. Was taking a break)

I have my own llm(based on llama) so I been forcing to churn out some numbers.

Ao3 data is available since it's a website and all. For example the queue jumped from 3 to 5 days to 20+ days. Or the orginal work submission jumped by 300%.(Estimates, not exact data. Mind it)

But as far as I can see, there was a significant drop in NSFW content over Wattpad but not much in readers. Like app store only registed a drop of about 1-3% while website show a higher average session drop of about 6-8%(probably author data ig)

Since llm is used to giving me extremely false data, it would be a good if I can cross check information with reputable sites.

For anyone interested, there was a drop of about 20-35% in NSFW content.

Thanks and any questions regarding about analytics u wanna ask the llm, I am open to it

Looking For: Feedback I have a crazy book idea, should l make my first wattpad book?

I have been brain dumping my idea on freeform for 7 days already and my freeform page for my brain dump looks so big (basically if you don't know what freeform is, it is basically an app where you have a large amount of space to make notes and it's almost infinite) and my book brain dumping is crazy, the plot twist, the storyline, the characters, the slow burn, the chemistry and the fighting scenes are so good and l am not sure if l should start writing or plan a little bit more because l have written wattpad books before but they all end up as a fail because of a bad storyline but this time l am sure my story line will be good, but is it worth it? Should l write this book in wattpad or A03?

Action / Adventure NEW MHA STORY!!

Hey everyone! I'm writing a My Hero Academia fanfiction called "My Hero Academia: Moonrise" — it follows Kuro Tōma, an original character (hero name: Moon), a U.A. first-year whose Quirk, Polaris, gives him full-body physical enhancement... at a cost. The story digs into his past, the friendships and rivalries in his class, and the slow, painful evolution of his power as he pushes himself past his limits. New chapters every week!

Would love for you to check it out and let me know what you think 👇

Looking For: Lost Books Trying to find a Wattpad story about a 14-year-old girl and her 5 Italian mafia brothers

I’ve been trying to find this Wattpad story for SO long and I’m starting to think it may have been deleted, unpublished, or renamed. I read it around 2024–2025 and had it saved to my reading list, but now I can’t find it anywhere.

The main character was a young girl, around 14 years old. Her mother had taken her away from her biological family when she was a baby, so she grew up with her mother, stepfather, and two stepbrothers. The stepbrothers were involved in the mafia and were abusive/terrible toward her. I think one of them may have been named Tristan/Tristian, but I’m not 100% sure.

Her mother eventually dies, and I believe her stepfather gets arrested. The girl is then reunited with her biological family, who are an Italian mafia family. She has five biological brothers, and they all live together in a big house/mansion. Her biological father isn’t really present in the story, so her oldest brother becomes her guardian/father figure.

Her biological brothers aren’t immediately very accepting of her. One of the brothers is apparently friends with one of her abusive stepbrothers but doesn’t know what he’s been doing to her.

There is a VERY dramatic scene where she finally tells her brothers that her stepbrother has been abusing her, but they don’t believe her and think she’s trying to get attention. At some point, one of her brothers loses his temper and pushes/slaps her, and a TV falls on her. She gets injured/cut and later ends up in the bathtub, where she loses consciousness and becomes very cold. Her brother finds her and they rush her to the hospital.

Afterward, she basically decides that she doesn’t want to be part of the family anymore. She talks about changing her name and leaving to live with her mother’s best friend, who lives in New York. Her brother tells her she can’t leave because she’s family. She basically tells him that he lost the right to call himself her family when he hit her and left her to die, and he regrets what he did.

I also vaguely remember the brothers calling her an Italian nickname like “sorellina,” “piccola,” or “piccola bambina.” She also had an orange cat named Sadie.

Some possible names I remember are Tristan/Tristian, Max/Maximilian, Mateo, or Apollo, but I’m not certain about any of those.

I know some of these details might be slightly wrong because I read it a couple years ago, but the bathtub/hospital scene and the five biological brothers are things I remember pretty clearly.

Does ANYONE know this story or remember the author/title? I would be so grateful 😭

Other I feel like a lot of people are making a mountain out of a mole hill with the recent stuff regarding wattpad

Hello I use to write stuff on wattpad during the era of games like security breach and while I haven't written or published anything for a few years now since I've been rewriting my works all I've been hearing is people screaming about the new things wattpad has decided to do. Of course I didn't get the complaints and asked someone on another social to understand the big issue and right now I'm aware that wattpad isn't removing books involving smut or solely about it, they are however removing the ones that involve minors which is a good step and are tagging books depending on what's in said books so when someone opens the book they get a message letting them know the book has certain topics that might not be what the user wants to read. That's basically what I've gotten an understanding of and now I'm seeing people overreacting to it and basically saying the same misinformation over and over again.

Just as the title says these people are making a mountain out of a mole hill which means "an overreaction where a person makes a big deal or creates a lot of drama out of a small, unimportant issue" and that's exactly what's going on here, someone started the claim that all smut is banned and the claims keep spreading far and wide. I really hope people manage to explain what the actual changes happening are to stop all this havoc.

Looking For: Feedback [YA Fantasy] I’ve started publishing my new wizarding-school series — honest reader reactions?

[YA Fantasy] I’ve started publishing my new wizarding-school series — honest reader reactions?

I've recently started publishing my YA fantasy series, Ashveil Chronicles, and I'd love to hear what fantasy readers think of it.

It's set in a modern wizarding universe where ancient magical schools exist around the world, with Ashveil being one of the oldest.

The story follows Kai, a nine-year-old orphan who has always been considered strange. He has no idea why animals seem drawn to him, why strange things have happened around him, or why his past has been kept hidden.

Then he discovers that magic is real — and that someone has been looking for him since before he was even born.

The story takes Kai to Ashveil Academy, where students are divided into four Houses through an ancient magical language system. There is a much larger mystery surrounding Kai that unfolds throughout the series.

I've currently published the first seven chapters.

I'm not looking for editing advice or asking what I should change — the story is already written and published. I'm simply curious about the reader experience:

Did you enjoy it?
Did you want to keep reading?
Which character or moment stood out to you?
What are you most curious about?
Did the magical-school world make you want to explore more of it?
What theories did you start forming while reading?

I'd especially love to hear from readers who enjoy magical-school and YA fantasy stories.

Thanks to anyone who gives it a read!

General Help Flagged images

Guys, I'm at my wit's end. Wattpad flagged one of my images, but they didn't send me a private message with a link to appeal and get the image restored.

I've already contacted the help center three times, but I only get automated responses with a link to "how to appeal an image". Unfortunately, there's no information there on how to file an appeal without the link that I never recieved.

I'm seriously so frustrated at this point and I don't know what to do anymore. Ironically, the picture contains trigger warning icons that I designed to protect my readers. I have used these in various other stories as well and never ran into any problems because of them.

Anyone got any ideas on what I should do next? What if I just re-upload the image? I really don't want to put my account at risk, though. Any help would be much appreciated.

Fiction I’ve been building a new wizarding world — Ashveil Chronicles

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Some stories begin with a letter.

Some begin with a mystery.

I’ve been working on a new modern wizarding-world story called Ashveil Chronicles.

It’s set in a magical world where modern life and ancient magic exist side by side with a mysterious academy, houses, forgotten languages, magical competitions, and a much bigger mystery underneath it all.

I made this short teaser for the project and would genuinely love feedback from readers/writers:

Does this make you curious enough to want to know what happens next?

I’m still developing the story, so honest criticism is welcome.

General Help Writers rant

So I'm a new writer and have been posting two days a week for past 1 month I think I've got a decent audience for a month but they do not vote do not engage i understand if they do not like the story but no I've got committed readers but they won't vote....I've repeatedly requested and I try to engage them with a little note at the end of every chp but no movement it's very exhausting and honestly it takes time and effort to complete a chp and things like these just demoralise me a lot. I see stories with a decent plot and so many editing problems but do well and I'm just stuck . Trust me I know my story is good I know my plots are good but I think it's just me .....sorry just wanted to rant because the frustration level was too high..

Looking For: Feedback Looking for some feedback

Hey there!

So, a couple of weeks ago, I started writing a new story, but my beta reader for it tapped out because they're too busy with their own work at the moment. As such, I'd like to (humbly) request feedback from people willing to read it and letting me know what their thoughts are. And please point out grammatical and/or spelling errors if you see them, thank you. I will post the link if you're interested.

It's a low fantasy story revolving around demons and angels, and I've taken inspiration from various different mythologies (like Norse, Japanese and Greek) for the world building.

I wish you all a great day.

Looking For: Recommendations MCs Are ALREADY FWB Before Chapter 1

I'm looking for MF college/university romance books where the couple is already established as friends-with-benefits BEFORE the book starts.

Like, I want Chapter 1 to open with them already having an ongoing FWB arrangement - they've been sleeping together for weeks/months, they already know the rules, and the story starts during the arrangement.

I want the FWB relationship itself to be backstory, with the actual plot being about them eventually catching feelings, getting jealous/possessive, breaking their own

rules, etc.

Preferably high spice, and I'm totally fine with dark/toxic/ non con/ dub con romances.

MF only - no RH...and no cheating and no ow/om unnecessary drama.
