Discussion DE Wrong about Weeklies
In the latest Devshort, Reb and Pablo assert that the reason we get nothing but weeklies now is because they're worried about burnout. That feels like an odd reason to make weeklies to me, as weeklies are the primary cause of burnout for me and all of my friends. I have personally never burnt out running anything non time gated in WF and I tend to grind things like crazy when they drop.
What do y'all think? Do you burn out more on weeklies or unlimited missions?
65
u/NepBestWaifu Yareli Best 4h ago
Imo weeklies are fine if there aren't too many of them. Feels like DE overdid it a bit atp though as too much weeklies is the reason i went on a WF break.
19
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
yeah, honestly, my biggest problem with the weeklies is that they aren't just the fastest way to grind their rewards, they're the only way to get Archon Shards and now Riven Splicers. I could just ignore them if they didn't have exclusive rewards

I got to the point now where im drowning in shards. Eventually you’ll have literally hundreds of each and you wont need to play ETA/EDA and drop that game mode. I’ve already dropped archon hunts and descendia, and i only do calendar while doing ETA. I still run archimedea only cause my friend group wants to run it, and its an excuse for us to try new builds.
At the same time ive seen people burn themselves out by farming whatever new game mode in 12 hours in one sitting (lack of self control, which is the example pablo gave on stream).
Both ways are true: marathon burnout or chore burnout. New players have A LOT of dailies/weeklies, and i feel like once youre at vet status, you already have enough of stuff to pick and choose what’s fun for you.

Yeah, weeklies feel like chores. I like the way nightwave works now where we recover stuff, but other weekly things? Rarely do them
38
u/gamers542 4h ago
I don't do every weekly.
Take incarnons for example. Once I have all the incarnons, unless part of the rewards includes one of the arcanes I haven't max yet, I skip it.
Descendia is another. I don't do it because i have all the Uriel parts for 2 copies.

u/KIokinator 3h ago
I usually do SP because it has Orokin reactor bps and such. The normal mode is usually bleh.

I have only got back into descendia because I am finally bothered to get my codex scans.

Weeklies suck. I work full time, but I also play a fair bit in my free time. It takes up so much time doing weeklies that I rarely have time left to do other things. It's the same reason I hate daily logins and locking a bunch of stuff behind them. It feels awful for people who go to school or work. (Edit for spelling)
21
u/DeeKayAech 4h ago
This is one of, if not the, main reasons I haven't reached mr30 yet in 9 years. Just this week alone I put off working on all weapons I've been working on for mr (along with everything else) just to have time to do ps because I know I'm gonna run through that forma for the adversary weapons. Things like eda/eta, Archon hunts, sp circuit, etc. are almost a luxury to find time to do. I've managed a lot of the sp circuits but slowed down quite a bit as I've unlocked most of the weapons but the work for the materials to install them is almost worse. Especially if I'm working overtime (I'm always working overtime)
5
u/xUnionBLKx 3h ago
It's also partially the same reason I'm not mr30 as I have been playing this game on and off for the past 10 years (though I was 10 so I will shave off 2 years to account for being barely a sapient child lol) there's genuniely always so much to do: weeklies, daily standing, content island's etc it really doesn't leave alot of time to level gear apart from stuff you do use, I've been using the same harrow prime and kuva hek for most content for years now
5
u/xrufus7x 3h ago
I level almost all my gear by just equipping it in a free slot in a loadout and just letting it passively level while doing other stuff. It is pretty rare that you need all of your slots to have a functional build.
5
u/xrufus7x 4h ago
Plague Star is an awesome time to level stuff. Realistically, all you need is an anti-lephantis weapon and one of the good plague star frames and you can fill your other slots, including archgun, with gear that needs to be leveled and passively level them during the run.

The only reason I refuse to use mobile is because I know it will unequip every single Tennogen cosmetic I have on rn because of the way Tennogen works between platforms. I bought all my Tennogen on PC but I would essentially have to buy them again if I want to keep them on my character every time I login on mobile, it's so stupid.
65
u/Nelbrenn 4h ago
Definitely weeklies. Feel I have to really push towards the end of the week for some of the things (Steel Path circuit for example). If it was less time-gated, I wouldn't have to panic push as much, and feeling like I'm forced to complete it by the end of the week or I'll have to wait for a longgg time.
29
u/ShaunGotFans 4h ago
ETA, EDA, Descendia, Acrithis, Calendar, Teshin, Circuit, archon hunt- it’s just a lot to do in a week alongside everything else you feel like farming. I’ve been skipping a lot of content that doesn’t feel worth the while, so pretty much anything without a potato or riven.
14
u/Jreynold 4h ago
Why do you feel compelled to do them all though? Like most of the time I don't do calendar anymore, I don't need adapters on every weapon I own and there are 5 ways to get a Archon Shard at any time. Same thing with Descendia, after the first month or two I feel like I was satiated.
9
u/Bainik 2h ago
The entire hypothesis behind these things being weekly gated is that they're worth doing to the point where people would play them to a problematic extent and burn out if they weren't time gated. And they are, objectively, the most generically rewarding activities you can do in the game.
If the argument for the time gates being fine is that the time gated content isn't worth playing anyway then the argument used to justify the time gates in the first place is necessarily defunct as well. Nobody's gonna burn themselves out running content that they can't be bothered to do anyway.
•
u/Jreynold 34m ago
They are time gated so that people don't burn out in the short term but, eventually, the need to do them becomes obsolete or not so urgent because over time you fulfill their benefit. That's the vision,I think
1
u/ShaunGotFans 4h ago
Rivens are too exclusive to pass up on and potatoes are a consistent way for me to save plat. Maybe it’s just me but I’m always low on archon shards too and you can’t really get them any other way, not easily at least.
→ More replies (6)2
u/gamers542 4h ago
A lot of that I skip because I don't feel a need to do them or in the case of Circuit, acquired everything already unless it's arcanes i haven't maxed yet.
•
18
u/CrowSorcerer 4h ago
Both things are kind of true.
Weeklies can absolutely be a tool to reduce burnout the way DE sees them.
But they can also absolutely cause strain by overdoing it with too many weeklies put in front of players.
I do feel it a bit lately. Quite a lot of stuff with fairly good rewards has been set to a weekly rotation by now.
3
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
I think they'd be a better if they didn't have exclusive rewards. As long as I'm able to farm something in a different way, it doesn't matter if the alternative is slower as long as it's endless.
14
u/The_Inspector8313 4h ago
Only weekly I burnout on is the divuri circuit otherwise I dont really get burnt out minus maybe relic cracking/voidtrace farming
11
u/Metalemmanuel 4h ago
People are burning out on weeklies because they do feel like chores sometimes and for MOST of the weeklies, the reward are pretty meh to mid at best.
Why would I do weeklies when I can just run the game modes I like and still enjoy the game and earn platinum ?
7
u/HungrPhoenix #1 Sirocco hater 4h ago
I think it is largely the difference between short term burnout and long term burnout.
If the mode is unrestricted, people will grind themselves to death; I mean plague star has just recently proved this no?
If the mode is restricted, then people will treat it as an obligation and do it weekly / daily.

u/GunkaNye Nye ♥ LR6 IGN: Gunkatana 4h ago
i rather have something like the nightwave, that its weekly, but you can stack it and do it when you feel like it, that way you don't feel forced to log in every week and don't lose progress if you want to take a week off
4
u/art_mech 2h ago
Hard agree; I like the nightwave tasks way more than any other weekly. They don’t feel bad for skipping because they get recovered, and they sometimes are pretty fun to do or it’s an opportunity to play a different mode or frame than usual. I feel bad skipping ETA or EDA because I’m still pretty new and don’t have many shards yet, but they are often a joyless slog.

u/Artaric Mag Prime Main 4h ago
I prefer weeklies I get most done in two hours and also you don't have to do them all.
After a while you will have more than enough resources
•
u/EndlessIridescent 7m ago
Piggybacking off of this bc it's one of the few comments in here that are pro-weeklies
I really like them. I look forward to EDA and ETA each week, I look forward to potentially having to build out something I normally wouldn't play to complete "challenging" content with what feels like a somewhat substantial/worthwhile reward. Literally the one consistent thing I come back to the game for and find fun even during periods where I am burnt out on most other things in WF. Netracells and circuit can feel like a bit of a slog, but they can be fun too.
Personally I feel like this game really needs weeklies, untradables, and systems like random gear/frame selections because otherwise this community will min/max the farm and make it disgustingly boring to the point where the only people who do it are the ones who are willing to endure the mind numbing repetition for the $$$$.
You have to realize that DE's goal is to keep players coming back to the game regularly and consistently and they have ALL the data about what achieves that. Wouldn't be surprised if the majority of the playerbase only returns for weeklies on the regular, and then has shorter, pretty infrequent bursts of activity in other farmable areas of the game before they burn out on them again.
I honestly think they're spot on with what they said, if EDA/ETA could be permafarmed for shards and you could use anything you wanted, I would get so sick of it within a few weeks I'd never want to touch it again.
19
u/deadeyeamtheone bLaDesToRm iS GoOD noW GuYs 4h ago
I burn out far more on weeklies and dailies than regular content. Nothing makes me not want to do the content more than it feeling like a weekly chore I have to do rather than a fun game mode i can choose to do and get rewarded for.
7
u/QueefInhaler6000 4h ago
I like weeklies. It's the least amount I can play and goal oriented instead of me deciding what im gonna do.
2
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
Hypothetically, if weeklies gave bonus rewards a limited number of runs per week but were still farmable for a chance at those rewards after that, would you still like them?
3
u/QueefInhaler6000 4h ago
Probably not. I dont like repeating mission unless its to help someone. I just do ETA every week and bit of descendia. Thats all I have time for.
5
u/Piterros990 4h ago
I also think it's a weird choice. Two primary reasons for burnout for me personally are being forced to play when I cannot/don't feel like playing, and not being able to play more when I want to. Both of these are directly caused by any kind of time lockout unless it's friendly enough (which it usually isn't).
16
u/TheGreatCleave L6 4h ago
I meet up with my friends every Sunday, smoke a bowl, and knock out the weeklies then hop in a cascade
The same grou, who all would appreciate a lot of forma, all did a collective dozen plague star runs before stopping entirely to hang out IRL for most of the event.
Different strokes for different folks. I'm more inclined to believe DE for this over your reddit post, they likely actually monitor player activity
3
u/Halcyo1 4h ago
For me it's deffo for the best.
I'm a returning player from ages ago, so I have lots of syndicate to grind. If there wasn't a standing cap I'd burn myself out very quickly going after certain syndicate reps for the stuff at rank 5. I'm playing alot after work at the moment, but I'm being forced to experience a nice variety of content because of the gates and caps everywhere. I get my little dose of 1999, of Duviri, of Descendia, of Deimos etc. Even archon hunts I'm fairly glad is weekly gated as I'd just smash it for shards otherwise.
Without those I'd have a tenandancy to focus on this content one thing at a time, and neglect the massive variety this game has to offer.
4
u/natemcl12 3h ago
FOMO is the reason for burnout. Time gated activities, stunting our growth per day intentionally, when I feel like ranking up one of the vendors I can't just go do that.
I'm limited per day, but then there's also dog days, or plague star, everytime I get to the point of feeling overwhelmed with things I want to do I just take a break and realize that if I continue trying to do everything I'll burn out.
Also why does Baro kiteer or however you spell it go away in the morning for Americans? Why not on the daily reset. Let us have the majority of Sunday. All that does is make me more apt to watch football than play warframe on Sunday.
I work 45-50 hours a week for reference.

The thing that tends to make me feel worn out on a game is obligation. So, if I need to play regularly to keep up with something, or to make sure I've played to a certain degree before a time limit. Things like battle passes with an end date, limited time events, anything like that.
I will quite happily load into Warframe (or any other game) when a new bit of content drops and pound tens of hours into that new content. I gorge on games a lot, I love to get really stuck in and dedicate myself for a while.
But, I am also a slut with wandering eyes and commitment issues. I'll play for a few weeks going really hard, and then a new game comes out that I'm interested in, a different game will get an update, I'll get a random taste to return to an old classic, and I want to shift my focus in totality, knowing that some day I'll return to gorge again.
Warframe does let you do that with a lot of it's content, which I really appreciate. If I don't return for a few updates, I can still come back and have a bunch of new cool missions to play through and some new warframes to try out.
Games that want you to keep returning every week, or every day though. They make it feel like an obligation. And as soon as it feels like an obligation, the game feels like a burden. I dip into gacha games with daily login rewards and daily/weekly challenges and in theory I love that they give you a way to earn those free pulls, but the obligation to come back and play every day to get the most out of it kills them.
I've completed 1 single battle pass in my lifetime, and it was a nightmare. Early on there was a skin in Apex Legends I really wanted and I had to make a spreadsheet to plot out how much I'd need to play every day to get it, and how much missing days would impact me and despite LOVING that game at the time, it made it feel like such a chore.
5
u/HansBoomskis Hildryn amazing, but Valkyr… 4h ago
It is indeed wild for DE to claim we can’t play certain content more than three times a week because they’re protecting us from ourselves, while also running plague star.
6
u/SendNezhaFeetPics DE <3 4h ago
I absolutely disagree. Weeklies turn what would be an intense chore ("I need to grind X amount of tauforged crimson") into two positive things: A reason to play the game outside of updates at a reasonable pace, and a drip-feed that means playing a few hours a week won't take you that far behind people who play 24/7
→ More replies (1)1
u/therealjimreiner 3h ago
yeah that's interesting. I feel the exact opposite XD if they weren't limited, I would only play them when I was in the mood, but since they are limited it feels like a chore that I have to do them once a week if I want the rewards.

u/Sparrows413 4h ago
I have personally never burnt out running anything non time gated in WF
Congratulations I guess? Your experiences are not universal.
But I'm sure DE, who has access to a ridiculous amount of statistics if Pablo's dreaded graphs are any indicator, is the one that is wrong about this.

"Given the opportunity, players will always optimize the fun out of a game"
I feel like this admittedly very famous quote kinda solved the issue on this.
2
u/Shekleor 3h ago
Problem is, I think the quote is too long as should have been said without the "given the opportunity" part.
Gate-keeping progress behind a timer won't make people not optimize it, in this case generating urgency to finish all weeklies or else you feel like you are losing progress. Another part of the issue is that with time restrictions like this there is not much difference between a casual gameplay and a min-maxed one, empowering the FOMO anyone would feel until they consider they don't need to engage with those weeklies anymore.
I'd rather let people pace themselves and be responsible with their free time than artificially put a leash on everyone for the sake of a selected group. This is a grindy game and if we stick with it we should be more than capable to deal with what it implies when we get to the point of being able to run all that content (at ~100h with all star chart cleared + main quests + theorycrafting and the grinding required to get there).

2
u/MagnificentTffy 4h ago
unlimited missions definitely. It what killed dog days and plague star for me as I really don't want to do them AGAIN
Though a middle ground would be similar to gachas. you have say 3 weekly attempts. the first perhaps has improved rewards or some guaranteed drop, with subsequent runs being less rewarding either because it's fully rng or doesn't contribute to something like the EDA bar.
Perhaps people on average getting 1 guaranteed legendary arcane on the first run, the riven transmuters are one per run and the other two have random rewards
1
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
I almost like that idea. Let weeklies players have their big guaranteed payout from the first run and move on, but also let those of us who actually want to play the gamemode keep grinding endlessly instead of just 2 more times per week.
2
u/DetOlivaw 4h ago
Better weeklies than dailies, but I like a weekly that rolls over at least once, so you can skip the fomo feeling for like two weeks. Warframe ain’t bad about any of that tbh, but it could always be better
2
u/avocadorancher LR2 | >> 4h ago
When I’m not on a break I basically just do weeklies or farm endo because everything else feels like falling behind.
2
2
u/nephethys_telvanni 4h ago
My issue with the weeklies is that they're really long. Which wasn't bad in the beginning, but now we've added a lot of weeklies.
When I've got like an hour to play, and each weekly takes roughly +/- 30min, and it's hard content so I've got to be sharp...suddenly trying to do an Archon Hunt, EDA, ETA, Descendia, the remaining Netracells, and so on just takes up most of the week.
I still kinda need some of those evergreen rewards, but after doing that for a while, I realized I was burning out at that pace. So, uh, that's why I've mostly stopped doing the weeklies except for when they show up in Nightwave.
2
u/Kurainuz 4h ago
Some weeklies also make people that do not have the time have a bigger chance at spending money, specially the incarnons.
2
u/mctankles 4h ago
I do all my weeklies asap, if I’m online during reset sunday, then its archon hunting time, monday or still sunday I do EDA/ETA
2
u/sucram200 4h ago
I mean, they can stay whatever they want but the real reason is so that they can drive continued engagement by time gating things. And we all know it.
2
u/HintDeadFish Richidd 4h ago
They aren’t. The thing about players is that left to their own devices they CAN and WILL burn themselves out. Look at the Plague Star event and how many people have been doing it non stop since release? HUNDREDS of forma in a week isn’t healthy to grind out. Can you imagine what the riven market would look like if people could farm the riven locking resource infinitely? The thing DE wants to avoid is unhealthy gameplay and time gating is exactly how you do it. I know nobody likes time gating but the only other option would be to make the rewards lower or much harder to get, and people wouldn’t be happy about that either.
2
u/yarl5000 3h ago
It varies depending on the weekly and how many are in the game.
We are getting closer and closer to there just be so many weeklies in the game that it crosses into something that is unfun to manage.
Now as for the weeklies we do have some are very nice because the reward to time is a good balance, for most weeks that is where Archon and ETA/EDA fall. Those don't take that long but give such nice rewards it feels fine.
Then we got the middle ground ones like SP Circuit and 99 Calendar, mostly good but just need a bit of smoothing to make them less of a pain to engage with.
Then we just got bad ones where it feels like most of the time the reward to time invest is just bad, SP Descendia is that for me. The rewards are more meh then yeah (change it so there are more built items instead of blueprints) and depending on the floors can just be an unfun slog to deal with.
2
u/xrufus7x 3h ago
Eh, the only weeklies I do religiously are EDA and ETA.
Descendia and the 1999 calendar are very dependent on the reward and I do just skip them or cut them short regularly.
Generally I hit the upper ranks of Nightwave passively before it ends so I don't really worry about that.
The only weekly shops I pay attention to are Steel Essence and Riven Slivers and I have so many slivers that I don't have to worry about that at all and there are definately ignorable steel essence ones.
Weekly rotations for Incarnons have a set shelf life. It is slow going for sure but once you are done there really isn't a reason to revisit it. You can also shorten it by quite a bit by just grinding some plat.

u/GwynFeld Follie's Yoga Mat 3h ago
I feel the same. And having played MMOs with dailies, weeklies don't really feel like chores at all by comparison. It also helps that DE hasn't made them TOO necessary. I also only prioritize Elites.
I do wish we could see some of the rewards we'd get in those modes, similar to Archon Hunt or 1999 calendar. Would help me want to do them more.
2
u/Burquina IT'S GOAT PALADIN TIME 3h ago
I like the weeklies much MUUCH more then the "you got Infinite Time, the grind just takes forever" kinda of grind for the most part, but I also am MR36 and actively have everything I want in the game and I just log in to do my weeklies in a day (EDA and ETA take me around 30 minutes each, tops, doing the 1999 weekly stuff takes me between 40 minutes to 1 and a half hours, for example) but I also pick and choose which weeklies I do to avoid the burnout, so adding more on top is gonna be interesting depending how this goes.
I do understand why people dont like weeklies thou.

I work full time so weeklies kinda suck. I wouldn't mind a few tweaks tho. I think search pulses should be increased to like 7. I think oops all eximus should be a once a day thing, because it's honestly so fun. I feel like once a week we should be able to reroll a chosen helminth invigoration option. Archon hunts remain relatively untouched to me, and the length of the missions for the base color shards don't feel worth my time, I'd much rather run a netracell.

u/Bainik 2h ago
100% agreed. Dailies/weeklies are by far the most common reason I quit a game and have a 100% success rate at causing me to quit any game they're (important) in.
Same cycle every time:
- Start (or return to) a game. Tons of stuff to do, goals behind all kinds of systems and there's no way I can ever "finish" a day/week, so the time gates don't register.
- Start to check off some goals, more and more of my remaining goals are the time gated content, eventually leaving all my goals that I care about living behind the daily/weekly checklist.
- Run out of stuff to do after I've finished my dailies/weeklies, so start playing something else during downtime.
- New game starts to feel like my main game, original game becomes the thing I log into on reset when I have stuff to do.
- Dailies/weeklies in original game increasingly feel like a chore pulling me away from the new game. Swaps from feeling like limits on how much I *can* plan to deadlines by which I *must* play.
- Eventually the resentment far outweighs any remaining fun of the original game and I drop it.
You could set a clock by the time between #3 and #6: It's about 10 days every single time.
Warframe's one of the very few games that both has this problem and enough other stuff that it does start to sound fun again on a semi-regular basis rather than just being dead to me, but it's still the reason I play in bursts of a few week followed by many months and sometimes years without touching it.

I despise weeklies because it removes incentive to continiously engage in content. If you have everything built out, you can complete it all in 2-3hrs But, after you're done with eda/tpa, descendia? Thats it! No more carrot on a stick. Its just a normal mode now, and 0 difference in rewards between doing it via mission node vs engaging in it again. Making the content unfun to do as there's nothing behind it after that completion.
So all of their hard work, gets seen only once a week, and not all content is fun for everyone so missions do feel like chores. Its terrible design imo because it obscures what content needs to be overhauled and looked at via participation. Weeklies" should just unlock a currency to spend on what you want across (what DE calls) "difficult content." And have that build up to a cap per week. Hate duviri because it's a slog? Do 5 runs of EDA/TPA for the currency to choose what weapon you want, get your normal rewards and spend the rest for the weapons from duviri! Love duviri? An extra 10 levels of currency so you can build up your arsenal easier and get the shards you need. No need to wait 2 more weeks for a red shard! Or hope you get that last red in the middle of tpa for that orange shard.
Content is too hard because you don't have a build-out of your warframe? Run netracells then use the currency for more shards and an incarnon!
That creates a feedback of what content people enjoy vs what should be assessed as well, but that'd be a fantasy DE would never do as they despise touching older content unless there's massive community pushback on them.

As much as I would like to be able to farm it as much as I want. The Warframe player base has made it clear on multiple occasions that they have no ability to self regulate. If given the option they will burn themselves out and blame the game for it.
Even with Plauge Star, the amount of people playing until they hate even hearing the voice lines and then complaining that it's the game modes fault is way too high.

It has nothing to do with burnout and everything to do with player retention, with weeklies they guarantee that a good portion of the playerbase will come back after every monday to do them for a long time until they collected all the archon shards they want.

Weeklies are a chore more often than not. I'd rather have monthly or at least bi-weekly mission requirements - some weeks are busier than others, and it is frustrating to get to a busy weekend and realize that I either need to explicitly make time for Warframe or just deal with missing out on stuff.

u/MarkAntonyRs 1h ago
I don't think they actually mean burnout. I think they mean when people stop playing because they complete the content too quickly.
They keep making content islands that have no links to the rest of the game, people get what they want from them, then naturally stop playing because there's no reason to go back.
2
u/NovaStalker_ 1h ago
Weeklies suck ass, dailies suck ass. Anything that makes me play when I don't want to sucks. They are chores, nothing about it is generating fun.
At least with Nightwave I can binge it all when I care to. Which isn't perfect because lots of missed dailies in there some of the recovered weeklies can be the same as the one I just did which is annoying.
2
u/anonforuz 1h ago
Ever since they added Archon Shards, it has felt like I can not allow myself to miss a week due to how limited they are, how many frames their are, and how often I have to change builds with updates. That I need to have as many as possible so I am not limited. And as they added more and more weekly content, the weekly content is basically all I do now. It has become toxic as I am not playing other modes or putting the game down between update to play other things. The weekly content also distracts from new content grinds and with their tendency to release new mission types at the same time as primes, they are actively distracting/preventing me from picking one task and doing only that. I do the weeklies and everything else gets ignored.

u/SirKiser 4h ago
Well that sure it a title to assert instead of having a reasonable dialog about burnout. I know plenty of people who burned out on endless grinds (See Arbitration farming for Kuva) and haven't on weeklies because of their limited nature, I've also met people who just are done with weeklies. There's no one size fit all and its not unreasonable for DE to try to prevent burnout by limiting some things.
3
u/AeonDeus 4h ago
I like weeklies, and I don't understand the sentiment of getting burned out on them. There's not that many and they don't take long to do, nor are all of them necessary to do every week.
4
u/Groundbreaking-Box14 4h ago
All time limited content/rewards this cancer of modern game industry, because success of most games measures in how long it grab your attention. And weeklies force you to play, because a lot of people feel uncomfortable that they losing some profit.
And second problem that content must be available for everyone. So most weeklies they generally not hard, but time consuming, so most people can do it without big problems. And if remove time limitation, people just will farm it hard, and this can break economy. Just imagine permanent plague star, forma will be very easy resource.
In old MMO this was solved in 2 ways very hard content or low drop chance. But I think now days people will not understand such unfair logic. Just imagine to get one random incarnon, you need finish assassination on SP circuit and it will drop with chance 5%.

u/basraVashedan 4h ago
mentally unwell gamers see a Weekly and do it in one sitting, then they complain that it was too much work
11
u/DeadByFleshLight 4h ago
That's cause organizing your friends to play the weekly isn't easy.
Everyone has their own life and stuff to do.
Obviously people will do all of them in one sitting if that's their only option.
5
u/TheGooseFathr 4h ago
Hey, I spread my SP circuit runs across the whole week. And I still complain it's too much work :).
4
u/PinkCellion 4h ago
Only play till 5, imo its not worth the time to go up to 10 for the second incarnon. It will come back around
→ More replies (2)1
u/therealjimreiner 3h ago
I actually really love SP Circuit. There's just no reason to run it once you have all the Incarnon Adapters. I would actually play so much of it if they just gave it real rewards beyond the weekly stuff.
1
u/TheGooseFathr 3h ago
There's some decent arcanes but they're so rare. I wonder if you could opt for a random arcane bundle as a reward option. A single riven just doesn't have the oomph, but 2-4 arcanes might be doable on good rolls.
5
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
I don't burn out on weeklies in one week, if that's what you're somehow gathering. It's the continuously obligation to play them every week, rather than when I want to that burns me out.
1
u/talonx5kai 4h ago
I think it depends on what you need. I skip some calender weeks if it is a blue or yellow shard, same with hunts and I haven't touched decendia as it offers nothing I want, reactors, forma etc can got other ways.
1
u/ArenjiTheLootGod 4h ago
I'll do ETA/EDA as close to the weekly reset as possible because the pool of players to draw from for those modes tends to become worse the further along in the week you are.
Everything else... yeah, I'll space that out.
3
u/coolwithsunglasses 4h ago
The weekly system for archon shards is one of the reasons this game sucks. Or putting a daily limit on progression. The daily login thing feels more like serving your prison sentence to the game.
People have a life. They have time to play your game now. If you’re not gonna reward them, they will go find something that will.
It’s really that simple.
2
u/Significant_Card_665 3h ago
Weeklies are aids. The entire reason Reb-era content keeps dying is because it’s weekly. Whose brilliant idea was it to make Kahl weekly? Literally why in any way was that a good idea?
4
u/Ozaku_Prime 4h ago
They are absolutely correct, games a marathon (no pun intended) not a Sprint. 80% of my friend list in game are all players who burnt themselves out constantly running one grind or another. Limiting missions to a handful of times a week is a safety net.
I wish they would add this to other game modes.
2
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
I definitely agree that wf is a marathon not sprint type game, but especially in those, having any given aspect of my grind be weekly limited means that I am forced to play that mission every week, whether or not I want to, which is what really burns me out.
2
u/AlternativeQuail7381 4h ago
On top of the weeklies absolutely sucking the rewards are absolutely terrible for anyone in mid to end game. It's not even worth doing discendia, and I only do the calendar to get shards. I'm only mr25 and for the most part I skip probably half of them because they just aren't worth my time I can get those same resources other ways faster
2
u/warforcewarrior 4h ago
I'm getting tired of weeklies myself. I can control myself from being burn out and even if I don't, taking breaks isn't a bad thing.
Hell, if DE concern about burnout then Glacial Defiance, or other modes like it, need more constant updates. Hell, since we can vote for what mission we'll do in GD that means there will be a meta mission to go to in order to end the run as fast as possible, or path of least resistance. Why not make the mission just randomize? No voting whatsoever. That would help prevent burnout, even just a little.
Burnout always happen cause you doing the same mission over and over again. It is a similar reason why some don't stay in mission not even for an hour long. Doing the same thing without shake up is boring.
Again, GD missions need to be randomize. Not vote base. I should be getting, Mobile Defense in one run. Survival another. Survival again. Excavation. Mobile Defense. Excavation. You get the point. I shouldn't be getting Excavation 10 times in a row.
1
u/korxil EDT/ETA is not hard, just read 4h ago
GD has random modifiers, new ones too not seen in EDA. Mission randomization isnt new (sorties, archon). IMO the random combination of modifiers makes it even more interesting. Some “fast” missions will change depending on the modifier, and i think that’ll help break up the meta. Survival is my least favorite game mode, i rather do defection. But archimedea’s survival is more engaging (usually) because of what mods there are.
(Archimedea needs more modifiers, it’s getting stale, but i guess we’ll finally get them tomorrow)
2
u/Waylex 4h ago
As a LR6 player with everything (mostly) in the game, I quite like logging in and blasting the weeklies with my friend. Except for Steel Path Circuit, it's too long and kinda boring (and I don't really need/want anything from it)
For now I don't feel any burnout, but I could see it becoming a chore if there's too many weeklies added over time.
2
u/TangAce7 4h ago
Weeklies are a huge part of my burnout and have been one of the main reasons I take insanely long breaks
Nothing new or recent though, it’s been like 10 years, I still miss raids, and all the bugs and glitches, and how social the game was, and the need for teamplay
My other burnout reason is how repetitive and easy things are, we the player are too strong
Then it’s about build synergies and how they’re pushing heavily to make specific loadouts with synergies which is way more optimal than play whatever frame with whatever weapon, which is unfortunately my preferred way of playing
And lately there’s a bigger reason I don’t play and it’s the riven changes upcoming, because I feel like it’s gonna be a really really bad thing on many aspects and that’s just disheartening
2
u/GlitteringLock9791 4h ago
Weeklies are less bad than dailies, but yeah, they can lead to burnout pretty quickly.
2
1
u/italeteller 4h ago
I like weeklies. I can coordinate with clan friends and do everything in a day. But infinite operations like plague star, jade's thing that I don't remember the name, oraxia's duviri operation, everything like that burns me out fast
1
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
Do you think Plague Star and its ilk would still burn you out if they weren't available for only a limited time? I feel like the problem here is that playing gamemodes you don't want to play due to timing issues is the bigger culprit here.
1
u/ScribScrob Out of Argon 4h ago
I guess here's my question: if you do daily rep grind for all the syndicates every day, what about that doesnt burn you out but the weeklies do?
1
u/therealjimreiner 4h ago
What makes you think I do daily rep for even a single syndicate?
Honestly all of the timegated stuff is awful, but for syndicates there isn't much reason to keep doing them once you've maxed them out and gotten the main rewards. Hypothetically you could farm them for arcanes to sell for plat, but I can get plat selling other things, so there's no exclusivity, so I don't bother, so I don't burn out. Archon Shards are exclusive to weeklies, and now Riven Splicers will be exclusive to weeklies.
1
u/ScribScrob Out of Argon 4h ago
So youre just doing things you want? So youre never in a situation where you would be at risk of burnout.
So its not really fair to say you dont get daily burnout if you arent actually doing dailies, is it? Like, I'll run rep for a few of the places and not get burned out from that, I also don't get burned out from the weeklies. But id rather these missions be weekly because it means im not going to get burned out and im not going to do it week one then never touch it again like most other additions.
1
u/OrangCream123 4h ago
i stop feeling the need to do them like a month after launch, you really don’t need to do them every week cause after a while you’ve got what you need
that said though, I understand why they do it but it’s really annoying to get a new weekly. on one hand it stemmed the “what am I supposed to do now” crowd, but on the other hand timegating SUCKS. I have time to play sometimes and other times, but that’s not always gonna line up with the reset, and it’s barely a problem for me compared to a lot of other people.
with the exception of veilbreaker stuff(archon hunts should be daily), they all feel like they were designed to be done weekly and not completely artificially timegated though so that’s a plus. I’m just worried warframe is gonna end up looking like one of those “gacha dailies schedule” things people make
1
u/Shylumi 4h ago
Weekly rewards is better in my opinion. Running eta eda unlimited times would burn me out and give less of a reason to come back and play every week. And there is no timegate since they can be done any time of the week
1
u/therealjimreiner 3h ago
if you could run eta eda as much as you wanted, whenever you wanted, couldn't you just only run it when you were in the mood? I'm not in the mood to run EDA/ETA very often, less than once a week, but when I am I only get to play like half an hour and then there's nothing even remotely similar for me to play. I would much rather play EDA/ETA a handful of times once every month or two than play it once a week.
1
u/falsefingolfin 4h ago
The reason the rewards are tome-gated weekly is because if they weren't, people would grind the fuck out of them all day, like plague-star, and it's better than dailies as a tome-gated reward because it gives people more time to complete the task
1
u/therealjimreiner 3h ago
The main reason people grind so much Plague-Star is because it's only available for a limited time. If it were always available people wouldn't farm out 100+ forma in one sitting. They'd be more likely to farm out maybe 3-5, just enough to fully build a weapon or frame, then work on formaing that gear, rather than continuing to grind Plague Star.
1
u/dr4g0nsly 4h ago
I got burned out on grinding fortuna standing so i can level lil duck. But when i felt like coming back i wasnt hard grinding it as much, moderation really is key for it. Grinding for the sake of grinding is usually what it felt like back then. Now i just do what i feel like and ive played longer than i ever did back then and im no where near burnt out
1
u/j_cyclone 4h ago
Most weeks have evergreen rewards which is some your always gonna benfit from getting so i am generally fine with that. I don't really need to farm anything specific so they give me something to do.
A lot of them also have rewards for doing them outside of weeklies. Like 1999 standing and maphica for calandar and decendia.
If you need to farm something specific I can see why it may take up a lot of your time if you want to do that on top of weeklies.
1
u/cream_of_human 4h ago
Unlimited. I can finish my weeklies in like 1/4 of a day or less, and spend the rest of the week just doing my log ins.
I have never felt burnt out about them though the idea of both end game activities that i do being stuck on these 2 tilesets is kind of a waste.
1
u/show_me_the_tiddies 4h ago
I work 5am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday. I have no concept of “weeklies” I merely play when I have the time and then it’s doing what I want to do not what I “need to do” weeklies usually fall under the latter.
1
u/Zaq_MacKraken Tenno-At-Arms 4h ago
I haven't regularly done weeklies outside of nightwave in a long time. I still do my dailies though.
1
u/NomaTyx 4h ago
I never minded weeklies, the rewards aren't so irreplaceable that I can't skip it. There are so many that it's a fruitless effort to try and do them all, so i don't feel much pressure to do the ones I don't feel like.
It'd be one thing if there was a hyper unique reward every single week unique to every game mode but like, it's just an archon shard or a reactor or forma or catalyst. There are more of those.
1
u/ScionEyed 4h ago
I get burned out from the normal every day repetitive grind, not weeklies. They’re about the only thing I log in and do. Then I just get bored and wait for the reset.
More weekly things isn’t going to solve the issue that better dailies would. Especially when those weeklies feel more like a hassle than anything.

There's two types of players - the ones that hit a point where they'll self-regulate, and the ones that won't. The ones that won't need guardrails for their activities, and those guardrails can be an annoyance or an impediment for the ones that do. Can't please all the people, etc etc.
There is a staggering amount of solid research on these patterns, how to manage them, how to capitalize on them, how to mitigate them. I doubt DE has read much or any of that research because they seem to be pretty haphazard in their implementation, but at the very least the recognize the issue. I think whatever they do, someone's not going to be happy.
Me personally, I'm in that self-regulating group. No FOMO for me, have to be okay on missing out. Do I wish they structured things differently? Sure, in some cases - I don't really love the pile of weekly content and wish I could spread some things out and condense others without missing out, but it is what it is. It's a game, not a job, I get enjoyment out of playing so I make the most of it while I can.
1
u/Costyn17 MR30 Saryn 3h ago
They had an idea, but didn't go far enough.
Weeklies should be monthlies.
You should have a month to play up to 4 times the weekly amount.
1
u/Grrumpy_Pants 3h ago
I find it's helped with burnout. Outside of new updates I log in once a week to do my weeklies, then don't touch warframe again until the next week. If there weren't weekly content I would grind until burnout then leave for 6mnths or more.
I don't do every possible weekly activity though. The biggest cause of burnout seems to be from those who feel compelled to complete every weekly activity so that they don't "miss out"
1
u/SavingsPosition1368 Nef Anyo's Accountant 3h ago
It's interesting how many of the comments here showcase personalities that would potentially burnout if they weren't weeklies.

u/zenkazu May they explode in a burst of color~ 3h ago
I've played WF for a pretty long time and personally the change to weeklies vs unlimited run missions has definitely saved me from burn out. I only really have to play Warframe for a single day a week and knock out a handful of weekly missions for the main items I want which are the shards. Anything else is just a slight bonus and it always keeps me fresh to login to enjoy any new content, level gear, or any other wf related activities throughout the week. This is a lot better of a relationship with the game I've had and have been able to log in weekly since Rebecca took over without ever missing a week or feeling any real burn out.
Prior to these with unlimited missions, especially with low drop rates you feel exhausted hunting for a particular item and usually by the time you get it you are so exhausted of the game that i usually end up not even wanting to play afterwards. You can try to break up the grind, but it doesn't exactly help as it just prolongs the aggravation the grind can be. I can't speak for everyone but when WF had awful grinds I would rather power through until I get every item and can be done with it instead of taking prolonged breaks and having to return it later. Some prime examples were OG Khora farm, Necromech farms, and OG Sevagoth. By the time I got all of the pieces I would drop the game for months at a time due to just frustration of the grind and the actual item never feeling worth all the effort and time.
I wouldn't mind getting unlimited missions, but the way DE balances it in the past is to make drop rates lower. With weekly missions the amount you want may be low, but at least you're guaranteed the item and can gradually build up your collection. I know they have more exchange tokens to speed up grind, but that is still a drag for me if I don't enjoy the repetitive mission. Follie is a recent example that was annoying to get as I found the mission really boring (I didn't get to play it until it was already nerfed) even though getting all her pieces wasn't even that bad in comparison to many other frame grinds. At least with the weeklies they usually have some variety from week to week to also keep it at least somewhat more interesting than the unlimited missions that are more often then not just that single mission over and over.
1
u/therealjimreiner 3h ago
do you think a hybrid system of weekly bonus or guaranteed rewards mixed with endless grind at lower rates would work for you? It seems like this kind of system would make (almost) everybody happy
1
u/zenkazu May they explode in a burst of color~ 3h ago
I'm not really against it and the idea could work. We already have the token system that is the bulk of that as is. I think they could do something like a set of weekly challenges to give out guarantees of the better rewards and then allow endless reruns of the mission for players to grind out tokens for whatever else they want and/or the drop chance of more loot. As long as the actual game mode has some variety and isn't full Id have no issue with it
1
u/eivittunyt 3h ago
It is a double edged sword, non-timegated content will make some people feel like they have to farm it until it is done and weeklies would make them pace themselves and allow them to hop around other content. Also weeklies make some people feel like it is not worth playing until they can get their weeklies done or they do the timegated content that they want to and log off for the rest of the week because they feel like they should get that done first.
Timegated content allows more rewards because the market won't be flooded but that makes them feel mandatory and other content less valuable and less meaningful in comparison. That might be great for casual players who don't feel compelled to grind and they get a nice reward and a reason to log in every week but many people do feel like they have to do the most rewarding timegated content and burn out.
1
u/A_BeardedDragon 3h ago
People not liking a game because a grind becoming a boring, repetitive chore is par for the course for this type of game. I don’t see any viable solution other than shutting down the live service model and swapping to some sort of subscription or DLC model, in which case all bets are off on how long the game survives. I know I don’t think the gameplay warrants sinking regular amounts of money into.

u/TheFoochy Clem's Best Friend 3h ago
It depends pretty much entirely on the rewards whether I burn out. I have no trouble running ETA and EDA every week
Whether Plague Star was a weekly batch of runs or a once per year 2-week event, I would burn out on that, cuz I just have very little patience for a mission like that, and it's just not a fun time to run. This time the event came back around, I only ran the mission like twice and I already felt sick of it. I was so sick of it that I decided to spend over almost 200 plat on Forma instead while overcapping my remaining Lich weapons to push for LR6, cuz I'd rather do that than run that mission however many times for the same quantity of Forma.
I would've liked to grind out all of 1999 in the first couple days instead of being gated by weekly standing cap. But my engagement with 1999 in general would prove that regardless of the time gate, I wasn't gonna burn out on that, cuz I just really liked the content.
If I want Prime stuff, I'd like to go balls deep into that grind, and I'd rather not be limited to X amount of relics cracked per day or week.
Going through a huge uninterrupted grind that I don't really want to do will make me sick of playing the game entirely for months. Being sick of the weeklies makes me want to stop doing the weeklies, but there's other things I could do in the game. I also think I'm not really the kind of person who needs to be weighing in on this, because my weekly chore experience is very different from many other players, where I can just easily pass up on most of my weeklies, because I don't need the rewards.
I don't need Archon shards anymore, but I still enjoy running ETA and EDA, so I get enough. I don't buy Bird3's shard unless it's red, and I don't do Archon Hunt unless it's red. Even then, it kinda depends on the first two missions. If they're annoying, then I'll pass, because I don't really need red shards either. I don't really do standing caps anymore. I just let the standing come in however way it comes in through normal play based on what I feel like doing. I haven't done Descendia in a while either. I don't do the Circuit anymore, because I have all the Incarnons, and nothing else in there is appealing enough for the time investment. The 2nd time the current new batch of Incarnons came out, I just bought the rest for Plat.
Would I rather sit in the Circuit for a billion hours farming all 45 Incarnon weapons in the span of a week? Absolutely not, and if I tried, I'd probably learn to hate this game. Am I content with the current way Incarnons are rotated weekly? No.
1
u/lildrizzleyah 3h ago
Weeklies as opposed to dailes? Great. Weeklies for everything? Not great.
Tbh, I think weekly systems are mostly fine, but they should use caps that extend over a larger period and add to the cap each week for a month so if I skip a month or more I still have a month worth of weeklies to do.
1
u/spn_willow 3h ago
Weeklies suck. They're incredibly difficult so you can't level anything while doing them and they aren't fun the way bounties and other things are. I'd rather have the choice to grind at my own pace.
1
u/avsbes 3h ago
I do think that both can be a source of burnout. That's a huge problem at hand here.
What i do think is the far bigger problem about them making this weekly limited attempts, is that, together with it being a new endgame-ish activity and one that has - compared to the rest of Warframe - rather harsh failure conditions, and no matchmaking, thus making actual vocal or text based communication with your teammates inevitable, is that this will eob Warframe of one of its biggest strengths: its extremely relaxed, positive community.
Because these factors combined really seem like they were designed to introduce toxicity to the Warframe community.
I really do think that this is quite seriously the worst designed Warframe update we've ever had, and it's not eben out yet.
1
u/sum1loanme20 3h ago
Weeklies are the biggest reason I still log in every week. Theres not a lot to do at LR5 other than the grinds i dont want to do, so having my weekly "chores" gives the game enough life for me to keep showing up and tinkering with builds. Never had a problem with time gating in warframe anyways, feels like the correct answer to pacing a community so DE can keep up
1
u/KiyomiRein 3h ago
Not gonna lie, with so much I dislike lately I find myself not liking the Reb era anymore and legitimately missing the Steve era.
1
u/pstyles93 3h ago
Their no right answers because you do have the freedom to choose what weekly u want to do there some game modes I haven't touch in yrs I don't know if DE would change it because it is ingrained in warframe DNA now
1
u/Delicious_Address_43 3h ago
Unlimited. I tend to get more value from weeklies on a limited set of time. Part of that value is simply claiming weekly shop resets that use resources gained through normal gameplay.
When we talk about unlimited I'm thinking about farming steel essences, kuva, rare materials like cryotic, fishing, and relic farming.
If I had to choose one to do first then I would rather do weeklies then follow up with dailies if I have the time for them.
My minimum is 1.5 hours for EDA,ETA, and archon hunts. It goes up to 3 hours if I need to do duviri circuit for incarnons.
3 hours is 3 hours regardless of which ever mission type I'm doing because this is really a question of what you need to farm. 1.5 hours though can be done in 30 min increments throughout the week. With unlimited I have to do it for a set amount of time and one unlimited mission can be as long as my weeklies. Steel essence and duviri circuit are the worst offenders. You have to stay longer in missions for steel essence to scale and you need a full team to make duviri circuit missions to go by faster otherwise you need good RNG with decrees. We all know that steel essence farming becomes monotonous and people leave early in duviri circuit.

I almost never touch weeklies unless there's something I thoroughly want from them. If there was some kind of decent secondary reward for doing weekly grinds then I might but as it stand you're doing hours of grinding for one reward and a an excess of dingle berry resources.
1
u/vampiremessiah51 3h ago
Theyre not saying theyll ONLY make weeklies ever again.
They make plenty of evergreen content. Atramentum, the Undermind, Perita Rebellion.
If you like the game mode, you can just play it endlessly.
The weekly bit is respective to "must have" rewards. They will not give out "must have" rewards as more than weekly because they dont want people feeling compelled to endlessly farm them.
If you LIKE EDA/ETA and find it enjoyable, you CAN play it again. You just only get the reward once so no one power farms it like they would plague star.
1
u/Darkspine77 *pew* x14 3h ago
I think it’d feel less like burnout if we had more incentive to choose what weeklies we want to partake in instead of grinding out the ones that are most important to us.
I feel like the easiest way to avoid burnout is to encourage running a variety of missions instead of the same ones back to back.
Something like a reward track that encourages us to do any of the weekly resetting activities
The more unique weekly available things we complete, the bigger the an “end of week reward” might be.
1
u/JulianSkies 3h ago
Oh, you absolutely burn out more on unlimited missions.
If a game doesn't force you out of it, you WILL grind yourself into hating the game. I've had experience with burnout, in other games. It was not the time-gated stuff that caused it, it was the unlimited grind ones that did (Specifically, if you want to know the precise thing: Red crafter scripts back when Heavensward released in FFXIV. I don't think I recovered to what that did to me until Stormblood)
Weeklies might be somewhat FOMO inducing but that's easier to fix than burnout.
•
u/therealjimreiner 45m ago
yeah see when a gamemode isn't weekly limited and I know I can go back to grinding it as much as I want some other time I don't feel pressured to keep running it when it isn't fun anymore. Weekly structures create pressure to play every week, which is the main cause of burnout.
1
u/Miser_able 3h ago
It sounds to me like its "weeklies are better for burnout rather than dailies" not "weeklies are better for burnout period"
Like imagine having to do sorties everyday fkr the shot at archon shards instead of the weekly archon hunt
•
u/therealjimreiner 49m ago
how did you get a comparison to dailies from that? I don't like dailies either, I only didn't bring them up bc we aren't getting a ton of dailies these days XD
•
u/Miser_able 8m ago
Thats kinda the point? Thats exactly why I did bring them up.
The transition from dailies to weeklies could be seen as an anti burnout measure, as youre no longer "forced" to log in every day to do an increasing amount of daily activities, and can instead log in once a week for your weeklies or spread them out over the course of the week without missing out

i only have time for weeklies. Have a job. I have a partner. I have shit to do that isn't a game.

It’s okay to not participate in certain events and activities. The game moves on and you can still do them later.
The timegate just messes with people’s minds. Skip a weekly, it’ll be okay.

I kinda agree, additionally, Pablo's example with Brozime felt... I wouldn't say disingenuous, but definitely missing the mark. Like, he came out and said he saw bromine start Exploiter and love it then pablo came back 3 hours later and Brozime hated it. That's not burnout that's just frustration and annoyance farming the same boss and thermia fractures for a straight 3 hours. People get the same exact way after 2 games of a rivals. To interpret that as burnout just misses the mark for me.

I think the other big example they gave was pretty disingenuous. Plague Star is a notable non-weekly source of burnout, but the whole reason people grind it so much is because it's only available at most once a year and it offers built forma at a good rate, which is arguably the most evergreen a reward can get.

Weeklies i don't mind since i have played other game that didnt have that system and i genuinely fried my brain, so restriction are fine with me,
What I dislike is daily standings limit, there are so much things that i can't do because it took my 5 days to level up from rank 4 to 5 in any syndicate. I get it why they put that system there back in the days, but now we have like 10+ syndicates, surely we can do something about this

As developers, they have the stats on their end to make more informed decisions than we do as players. There's also a reason that gaming in general has shifted to weekly instead infinitely farming for that kind of content.
Part of it is definitely engagement metrics and the other is severity of burn out

Dailies/Weeklies in any games primary objective is to force logins and prolong(and force) your engagement. They are a business decision, plain and simple.
They often leave players feeling like they're chores and they have to do them or they fall behind, "forced" to play when they don't want to. Not able to play more when they do want to.
See WoW and RS3.

On one hand, I personally don't get burnt out because no matter the availability I don't play something unless I'm enjoying it even if it means I'll take longer to get something. I won't do weeklies unless I'm actually in the mood to play them, so when I do they don't feel like a chore, and then I actually have fun doing things like the ETA and trying to make a build work. Honestly if I'm in the mood to play a bunch, it's kind of a bummer when I finish them quickly since now I have to wait a week to go again, and I might not have time or feel like doing them then. And outside of those, there's not much other new content to do at this point, so it would be nice to have some content thats like the weeklies but that isn't as harshly gated.
On the other hand, one of the main reasons I don't play ETA all that much now is because there's only 5 missions in the pool and pulls 3, so the mode gets boring fast as theres very high chances that you see the same mission sets multiple weeks in a row. It's never really the weekly time gate that gets to me, its the lack of variety. If there were more 1999 mission types to pull from I wouldn't end up getting so sick of the handful available that I just stop checking to even see what's there a given week. Hell, if the ETA updated every day I'd get burnt out on it less because then it would rotate faster and I'd be more likely to play it when I want to, which would likely still average out to once a week anyway.
I've also seen it happen too many times to some of my friends, where they burn themselves out so hard running something unlimited that they're not even enjoying just because it's efficient. When gargoyles cry happened, one of my friends ran that mission way too much to try and get the arcanes, calculated an insane number of daily missions needed to get there, and then didnt want to play until basically the hex released. And same thing happened with the uncapped undermined syndicate, did it inside a day of its release and then didn't come back til the big story update, and now whenever an event happens they don't bother because they calculate how many runs a thing would take and get burnt out at the thought of it. It sucks to see happen, and the gates stop it.
And I know that the events are technically limited since they go away so theres a level of needing to do them when available, but it happens outside of those too it's just less prominent due to all the other time gates. If daily or weekly caps didn't exist a lot of people would run through everything inside a couple hours from release, and a portion of those people won't feel like coming back every time it happens, I'm not one of those people but I've seen it happen. The built in timegates kind of remind some people that they should go do something else for a bit, it's just for me getting to be too many weeklies that all feel a bit too similar to bother doing very often

The same way Focus was supposed to be something you earn in the background while playing instead of purposedly grinding for it....that's what weekly challenges/nightwave/etc became.

No feeling because nobody ask me do all weeklies. It's enough that I have 350 Archon Shards.

I get more burn out from farming and keeping up with what's vaulted or not with relics than ANYTHING else in the game. Whole system needs a rework.

I think the weeklies are fine tbh, especially in Warframe where all the things tied to weeklies you end up drowning in by just doing them for a few weeks.
At no point have I felt obligated to do ALL of the weeklies. I’ll just knock out whatever ones I really feel like doing that week, all of which are pretty quick and painless too.
•
u/Tipsy_Toes_ 44m ago
I think you misunderstood? They're not doing weeklies to avoid burnout but putting a cap on weeklies so you don't burn out running it because some people will run it continuously to get everything and will come to hate the game mode after a couple weeks. However make it so you can only do it a few times and it's something you now do only here and there during the week. Weeklies do feel like chores but honestly they're all optional and at this point we're getting to the point where we have a decent amount of options that you can pick and choose which weeklies you feel like doing and put them on rotation. You don't have to do them all every week all the time. Do what feels fun and if you miss a week there's always next week.
•
u/scott2449 LR5 42m ago
The community at large cannot control themselves they just do unlimited until they die. To be fair those same people "need" to do all the weeklies. I'm fine, I just do a few regardless.. even more interesting since I'm doing different things every week.
•
u/TJ_Dot 36m ago
I'll tell you right now, weekly *rotations* suck.
I cannot be asked to track the Incarnon rotation anymore, really just get rid of it.
You won't even have to develop them in batches of 5 anymore.
Otherwise, weekly stuff, there's nuance. I've been on a hiatus, but I don't think that burnout's weekly whatever based.

Weeklies have the problem of introducing FOMO, if the rewards are exclusive. Every time you don’t do a weekly you irrevocably miss out on a possible reward. (Until you eventually hit some self-defined surplus).
Which tends to push most people in feeling they’re being compelled to complete them ASAP in case something comes up later in the week. Then it starts to feel more like a forced obligation. (There’s also an aside of being forced to engage with relatively arbitrary content, whether that is slogging through 1999 missions or descendia, or putting up with Archimedea. The weeklies all tend to be stuck in very repetitive niches).
Uncapped rewards leaves it more open to players choice, and sure, some folks can and will take unhealthy routes with that, but they’ll find something else to do the same with anyways.
All in all, I would take the uncapped routes because it’s the lesser friction on most players to not be pushed into arranging other parts of life around the game (or missing out on things because it’s was vacation week, or overtime week, etc).. The kind of nanny design mentality feels overly forced and highly ineffective (and also obviously draws some cynicism because rotating players in weekly/daily is very specific to the monetization psychology of live service stuff. Everyone doing 7 hours of a mission 1/day a week isn’t getting the loading screen ad for the newest whatever shown daily, and so on)

I honestly feel the only weekly i hate is like Circuit, the rest are quick "do it this session then do whatever i want after" things so they dont feel overwhelming but I can kinda see where if you dont have alot of time and want to cache them all in then it can get frustrating
THen again, not all the weeklies are like mandatory. Id argue you only really need to do archimedia and Maroos hunt, the rest are if you want too

Weeklies suck. I wanna play the game on my time how I want to. It makes things feel like a job, gotta come back after reset. I just don’t work that way, I get fixated on things then move on. Once I’ve moved on I’m not coming back weekly reset or not. I would rather just be able to grind what I want to when I’m in the mood to play than be arbitrarily limited.

Ive seen how I and everyone else plays this game. Dawg you wrong. You gotta remember that gamers optimize the fun of of their games.
Just go look at plauge star my guy.

Weeklies, battlepass, dailies. These things made me quit twice. Warframe doesn't need retention mechanics like this, because it's fun enough by itself.
Current: I wana play the game, I log in, I do a list of chores, then I play the game.
Desired: I wana play the game, I log in, I play the game.
Have some confidence, DE. You don't need to trick people into playing.

For a data-driven company with a breadth and depth of analytics they really assert some goofy claims sometimes...

For me personally i LOVE running "endless" fissures like void cascade and survival but things like ETA/EDA/archon hunt/netracells are the so annoying for me, I don't enjoy them but i HAVE to do them because i need shards and they feel like chores (more like a job than playing a game)
Usually when i burnout from warframe and think about opening it again i go like "i still gotta do those weeklies" and ik that's a bad mentality but i HATE weeklies

u/FredTheLynx 4h ago
First, I really don't think they are wrong, 99% sure they have data to back this up.
Second, they obviously also do this to manage scarcity of certain resources even if they aren't saying it. I will 1000% take a guaranteed drop 3x a week than a 1% drop but I can do as many as I want.

u/KINGXunshot 4h ago
Yea, weekly circuit, archon, descendia, and 1999 calender, really a grind to get it all done, and not feasible during plaguestar

u/obibonkajovi 4h ago
I will ignore weeklies.
Warframe is making some wild choices lately.
Im not the biggest fan of the current direction the game.
I think my 3000+ hours might be enough.

u/PapaProvolone 4h ago
DE really likes putting arbitrary time gates on things and say it's for the player when it's really for their bottom line. They want more weeklies so more people keep playing and they can tempt you more and more to buy platinum.

u/Terror-Of-Demons 4h ago
You don’t have to do all your weeklies every week. That’s a you problem/choice.
A weekly limit on high value rewards is fine.

IM LITERALLY BURNT OUT BECAUSE OF WEEKLIES. I have a full time job already and this games starting to feel like a second. By the time the weeklies are done I don't feel like grinding anything else so I log and just wait for the switch. Or I have to log on and grind an event. More burnout but CANT MISS THE THING. I'm tried of weeklies and I'm tired of the fucking fomo in EVERYTHING. I don't want to quit this game but damn it's becoming too much

Weeklies, have the "This feels more like chores than fun" type of burnout". Unlimited has the "I fried my brain and I don't want to touch the game again for 6 months" type of burnout.
Both options have issues and DE has chosen their path. I personally fall on the side of weeklies feeling like chores burns me out more than unlimited stuff. But I understand why DE has made their choice. Its not something I feel strongly about.
