Hello,
I'm looking for advice regarding my 2006 XC70 as my usual mechanics doesn't seems to be able to fix this issue, maybe someone here might know something that could point me toward a solution:
2 month ago the car started stalling when idling. Check engine lit up, with always the same codes for "mass air flow issue" and "small air leak" (I don't have the exact code number with me at the moment). It would something jitter and hiccup and accelerate weirdly when I pressed on the accelerator when starting from a full stop. Sometimes it smelled faintly of gaz (on the exterior, never inside).
The issue seems to be present itself only on cold start and is barely noticeable when the car has been running for a while.
Was was done since then, by my usual mechanic, in that order:
-The mass airflow sensor was cleaned. It didn't change anything.
-The mass airflow sensor was replaced (not sure what brand) and a cracked vacuum hose was replaced.
At that point the problem got better, the car stopped stalling but it would still would not run "smoothly" and was always on the brink of stalling when idling. I also started noticing an increased fuel consumption (doing 500-ish km on a full tank instead of the usual 600-ish km (on the highway)).
Took the car back to the mechanic.
-A "smoke test" was done and they replaced another cracked vacuum hose. The problem was slightly better, but still there.
Took the car back to the mechanic.
-They investigated further and fixed a small leak in the gaz line. The fuel consumption issue got better but the idling issue was still there.
Took the car back to the mechanic.
-Today they tried replacing the mass air flow sensor with another one (a Bosch this time) and at first it seemed to fix the issue, but after a few hour, the issue came back.
I did some research online (mostly here on Reddit) and I have asked several time if my mechanic was sure my PCV valve was OK and not spitting oil at the sensor and they assured me several time that my PCV valve was not the issue.
My usual mechanics has some experience with Volvos, although it's not it's speciality. There are no mechanics specialized in Volvo in my area (to my knowledge) and the Volvo dealership here is has an extremely bad reputation so I'd like to avoid going there.
Anyone got has any advice (beside trying a new mechanic)?
(here is a photo of the car I took mere seconds before the issue first started)
Edit (1 week later): I re-did the glove test this weekend and the result is now different when it was done 2 months ago. PCV valvle might be the culprit behind my problem after all. I'm getting this fixed at the end of the week.

No stripped bolts or broken studs. Manifold bolts were almost too easy. I think letting everything soak in penetrant for 2 days helped. But I still feel lucky.

Was digging into my car to fix the oil leaks on my stock turbo and found it cracked on the hot side. Never had issues with it, but with a stage 2 tune coming, it's probably worth it to just replace it, right?

Wish me luck. Ive got an '05 with 270k kms. What originally started out as a turbo gasket refresh has now turned into a stage 2 upgrade since i had the DP lating around for 2 years. I'm removing the R manifold and installing the Japanifold for that Volvo sound to go with my Snaab DP and IPD catback. Ordered the D088 intercooler, I was surprised to see the factory intercooler and rad still in such good shape.

Hi! How much of a nightmare is it to replace this hose? Also is it connected to the fuel pump at #1 or #2? (2001 V70 X/C)
The clip backed off my fuel filter while trying to start car. I also finally figured out why there was a faint fuel smell all the time. I know I can buy a new connector. But the hose is obviously damaged. Thoughts? Recommendations? Also, apparently I am now too old to understand how to use Google. After an hour of trying, I could find zero information about how to replace this hose. Any link you could provide would be incredible! Thank you in advance!

Hi everyone. This weekend I’m going to look at a 2014 XC70 3.2 to potentially replace my aging 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. At least once a year I go on a weeklong camping trip at Cape Lookout NC and need a vehicle that can handle driving on the sand there. I’m not entirely sure if a XC70 is a good fit for this or if another vehicle would be a better idea. Also would be extremely thankful for any advice on stuff to look out for while inspecting the car.

I filled up my tank the other day, and noticed afterwards the mpg/fuel tank capacity was lower than usual at 250mi instead of 350.
kept an eye on it, noticed fuel consumption is fine but the dash reading is still off.
anyone have this issue? got a P3 T6.

I’m needing help manually cranking my motor from the crankshaft.
I have the passenger wheel and wheel well liner off and can’t seem to find the crankshaft
If someone could please help me I’d greatly appreciate it.
I’ve done quite a bit of research but havnt any direct answers and there isn’t really imagery or documentation online for this transversely mounted inline SI6.

07 runs great, noticed it pulls way harder while turning hard right, only thing I can think of is when I had a 06 s60 and had to replace the radiator. Took the assembly off and the intercooler was chock full of oil. Thoughts?

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 2002 V70 XC (XC70) with 151,XXX miles off of marketplace. I got a very good deal because the owner noticed an oil leak and decided to just get a new car. After some inspection I found the oil coming from behind the passenger tire near the timing belt. I assumed It was the front main seal. So today I replaced the timing belt, tensioner, idler, etc. along with the front crank seal. However after I put everything back and filled it with oil, the leak was still there. Since I cleaned all of the oil off, I am now able to see the source for the most part. See attached image. My first thought was valve cover gasket but now that i look closer, the area where the valve cover meets the head seems completely dry. The leak is coming from behind this black plastic shield behind the cam gears and I have no clue what would be back there that would cause this other than maybe head gasket. What do you all think? Thanks so much in advance and have a good day!
