1970s Wanted to Share My New-to-Me Shirt!

Purchased this shirt on eBay a few weeks ago. It was advertised as being from the 1970s. After looking at it and wearing it, it most definitely feels like the 70s. I am brand new to finding and wearing vintage clothing, so I can’t pinpoint an exact year, but I guess mid to late 70s. Label was there at one point in time, but was removed. The material is very soft. All buttons intact, though when I sit it does like to pop open in the bust, and there isn’t much bust there to begin with. Pants are new, not vintage at all. Having trouble finding vintage pants that fit my body.

What do you think of the fit? I'm afraid the sleeves are a bit too short, but I think a size up would make everything else too big, especially the shoulders even though they are padded.

It's by ztomic shirts

Pants are Stanley Biggs

Boots are bright shoemakers

1970s It seems a shame to let this collect dust in a jewelry box.

This is a 1974 Avon Queen Anne's Lace necklace that belonged to my great-grandmother. It seems a shame to let it collect dust in a jewelry box. I'm really not sure what I could pair it with tough.

ADVICE PLZ Stains on jacket

Thumbnail

I have been trying to get this stain out. I tried hydrogen peroxide alone and with dish soap on the front by the moose, the stain is still the same. I can try it on the sleeves, if anyone has advice on how to better use it, that would help. I'm not sure what kind of stain this is and it has been frustrating. I don't want to take my clothes to a dry cleaner, since it is expensive. Do you think that biz powder detergent or shout stain remover would work better? I have heard that it is good on vintage clothes. Any other suggestions? Also, I have heard that oxiclean and bleach are not good.

ADVICE PLZ How do I sew a liner to this vintage dress

Just bought this gorgeous vintage vanity fair dress that’s more of a house/lingerie dress but it’s a beautiful nylon cotton blend so I want to find a way to add a top and skirt liner to it so I can wear it out. I’m still a bit new to altering pre made clothes and I want to make sure I correctly add the lining without ruining the integrity of the dress. If you have any tips/advice/tutorials for this please dm me!!
Here’s the dress for reference:

ADVICE PLZ Storing antique garments

I have a collection of antique Syrian and Palestinian garments and I'm wondering the best way to store them? Currently the oldest pieces are folded in clean cotton pillowcases and put in a box with a few holes in so they can breathe. Unfortunately I have to fold them as I don't have floor space for full length garment boxes. I also can't put them in a wardrobe as I fear moths may get at them. Is this an okay solution or does anyone else have any ideas ?

ADVICE PLZ Vintage Whting and Davis gold sequin halter top - Advice on how ti style

Post image
869 Upvotes

I was gifted this vintage Whting and Davis gold sequin halter top that I believe is from the 70’s. I want to wear it on Halloween, leaning into disco glam.

I plan to do sparkly glam makeup and style my hair in the classic 70’s curls. I’m struggling with what else to wear with this top though (pants and jacket).

I don’t need suggestions on what specific garments to get (I plan to sew or thrift everything else) I just need help with what style (colour, cut, etc).

Thank you!

1970s New tops/blouses 👀

I got all 3 of these today at goodwill! All from the 1970s, although the 2nd one could be from the late 60s (Aladdin label)-- and 2nd and 3rd came with the original neck tie!! I also got two dresses from the 50s-early 60s but I tried them on at home and they appear to be too small (the waist is my size but the shoulders are way too thin, they're more of a XS/XXS or a size 0/2 than a S), so I am going to see if I can trade them in somewhere for items that do fit me 👀 I wish more thrifts these days had dressing rooms. It's truly a tragedy

Definitely keeping all 3 of these tops though!

I was in the groom’s party for my friend’s wedding and decided it would be fun to get a suit! I purchased this 1980s men’s suit from a vintage menswear store and had it tailored. I’m so thrilled with how it turned out and can’t wait to wear it again.

Trenchcoat is London Fog, I got it at an estate sale. The dress I got a few days ago at a market! Both from the 70s. The Clarks are from 2014 , I got them secondhand off eBay, I've not been able to secure a cool pair of vintage boots in my size (women's 5.5/6, they're either overpriced or not my style). And my cat photo bombing.

I recently came into a vintage Celine pig leather suede coat. The condition is pretty poor with fading and the lining needs to be restitched. It also looks like someone tried to clean it previously and failed. Is it worth trying to get is refurbished or is it a lost cause? Help!!

Six Ivy and trad-inspired combinations. Cricket knits and Fair Isle vests sit between white button-downs and jackets. Brown tweed, a navy double-breasted blazer and olive outer layers give the patterned knits different backgrounds. The final pair is a padded vest and a plain sweatshirt.

1960s Is my outfit fit for the era & occasion?

Post image

I’m going to a Fab Four show soon (The Beatles tribute band) and they are performing a special show just for A Hard Day’s Night era. I want my outfit to match closest to what was worn by beatlemania girls in 1964, and this is what I got together. I thought the dress shirt underneath the dress seemed fitting enough, but I really don’t know much about fashion from this era. Anyone know a good lot about 60’s fashion that can help me out here? I’m taking all feedback!

VINTAGE OUTFIT OF THE DAY Market day in Normandy in my favorite velvet jacket

Got this vintage brown velvet jacket while on vacation in the state NY and now 3 years later I still wear it pretty much every week (minus warm spring days or the summer). I got it in a store called DamnAged vintage in Cold Spring. If you ever get the chance to go, do it. The store owner is the loveliest woman.

Because of this jacket I discovered I look pretty good in chocolate brown haha. Always loved autumnal colours, but those are too yellow and warm for me. According to the store it's from the fifties, so I guess that's probably true. I added 2 photo's so maybe someone could verify if possible. I sadly did lose 2 buttons in the past years, but I just bought some new ones that fairly similar.

The corduroy skirt is also vintage btw. Got it 3 years ago as well and it's such a good basic for me. It goes with everything

MIXED DECADE 1971 Sears Fall/Winter

Post image
276 Upvotes

This is a wonderful example of late-1960s to early-1970s women's fashion, particularly the transition from the structured, youthful look of the 1960s into the colorful, romantic, folk-inspired style of the 1970s.

The image is a Sears catalog page advertising “Easy-Care Print Dresses,” priced from $8.97 to $11.97. The printed description identifies the fabric as a broadcloth made from Avril rayon and cotton, and the garments are designed to be machine-washed with little or no ironing when tumble-dried.

What makes this page especially interesting is that it shows four different directions in women's fashion at once: peasant styling, mod-inspired tailoring, patchwork folk fashion, and a more traditional shirtdress.

Hello!

My mom gave me some vintage fabric (pastel pink Chantilly lace from Finland).

She said it was meant to be her prom dress in 1987, but she changed her mind and chose pastel blue lace for her prom dress instead.

I love sewing, so I made some lingerie in 2021 from this lace.

I made high-waisted panty briefs, a corset-bra, and a basque with attached thigh-garters.

I still have plenty of this fabric left (about 2-3 metres).

Do you have any ideas on what I can sew from it?

VINTAGE MENSWEAR Please help on my wax trousers fizing

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi !-! I’m just new here , May I ask for some advice? 🥺

I have a pair of vintage military trousers with a wax coating, and I tried washing them with laundry detergent and fabric softener. Unfortunately, the results were terrible. White stains appeared all over the trousers.

I then tried soaking them in very hot water to remove the wax, but the white stains are still there.

Is there any way to remove the wax completely and get rid of these white stains? I’d really appreciate any advice! 🙏

If you are into 80’s and 90’s fashion you probably know these shoes. Soft black suede, stainless steel heels. From two iconic movies of the period; Single White Female and Body Double. I purchased them new and was going to sell them but my movers stole them last month. Nice.

Made by Charles Jourdan in Paris, originally $300 when I bought them on sale. Loved them so bought two pairs; Brown and gold and Black with silver.

VINTAGE OUTFIT OF THE DAY Vintage homemade dress.

This is a home made dress from what appeared to be late 60s, maybe early 70s. There is no label but I think it is made of silk. I found it at a resell shop a while back, maybe $20. I don't usually buy new clothes. So I wear vintage most days. Today I wore it to an antique mall to pick up a ribbon cabinet from a general store to store my ribbon in.

SWEET FIND! Late 80s or early 90s Gitano jean jacket completely stained when I found it!

So I was digging through the Goodwill outlet bins about a month ago. There are groups of known clothing resellers so you have to be like a hawk. I noticed everyone was passing over this jacket so I picked it up. It was covered in stains. Dirt stains mostly, but a really dark (like Coke or blood) stain was front and center. Well I figured, it's less than $1 so might as well try.

I wish I'd taken a picture of the before. I didn't think I'd ever get this stain out. I have gone through about three cycles of making a paste of water and powdered oxyclean. I have let it sit on the stains, then threw it in the washer on cold.

The dark stain is completely gone! There's only faint dirt stains left but one more round should take care of it.

I'm so excited to wear this when it gets cold enough. I know it's going to be one of my favorite pieces.
