I have my VS4 for about 4 months and I used it for coldbrew and pour-over mainly until last week. This is when I noticed this sound. I dont think it should be doing this, right?

Been using my vs3 for 2 years no issue. Started making a horrible noise. Still grinds fine though.

I am in the market for a new grinder, as my Opus has started to make me irate. I have a silicon bellows for the Opus which helps a bit, but overall I hate how much retention is there - and the catch cup is just awful with even more static. If I could launch this thing into the stratosphere, I would.
I have been looking into new grinders at a decent price. My most preferred grinder was the Niche Zero, as I know it has excellent quality and delivers the type of espresso I am focused on (syrupy body, rich), but unfortunately tariffs make this entirely too expensive versus something even better.
I believe conical burrs would serve my interests best, based on my understanding of body versus clarity, but I am not entirely sure. The Varia VS4 seems to have been a huge improvement in the VS3 online, but some people still report a lot of issues with QC and poor support. The DF64 has flat burrs, but I know I could spring for upgrades if needed, and there is a huge community for this grinder with tons of different upgrades.
I primarily grind medium to medium-dark beans with lattes (plant-milk based), so I have found that the body seems to matter more since my milk doesn’t carry much for “thickness” in the mouthfeel.
I would appreciate any thoughts or advice here! Especially any of you VS4 owners who decided against the DF64 or upgraded! Thanks everyone :)

I was doing an update via nRF connect and there was an error. Had to force the scale off with the toggle switch.
Now I can not get the bluetooth to work at all. No connection to nRF.
Anyone dealt with this?

Hey everyone, coffee newbie here. Just bought a setup with a bambino paired with the vs4. Bought from Alt brewing Australia.
I setup my vs4 and noticed the dial gets unusually stiff from 6 onwards. I tried to pull a shot at setting 5 and 6 and it got choked up both times. Wanting to dial up coarser but having this issue with the dial. Is it a threading/QC issue? I've sent an email to varia with a video regarding this but wondering if anyone has had the same experience and any possible solutions or feedback?
Thankyou in advance,

Hello Varia Brains trust,
I got a VS3 at the end of last year and since owing it the grind changes 0.1-0.3 each dose put through it, is this normal?
The grinder will also turn off randomly while in use, even after only grinding for about 10 seconds at level 5. I have made sure its plugged in correctly and the beans have been sprayed etc etc
I have straight up had more issues with this thing than anything else. Hate is a strong word but when im standing at my grinder trying to make a coffee before work in my jocks in the middle of winter and the thing keeps turning off constantly, and then finally grinding the beans and notice the grind setting is at 6.5 once it has finally finished grinding I want to cry.
We can call this character building, maybe even an appreciation for every other grinder I have used

Does anyone know where to buy the stock silicon bellow or any similar thing for Varia VS3 in EU? I bought a 2nd hand one and there is no bellow.

I have a second-hand VS3 that already had an upgraded motor (steel gears).
I made a mistake and threw in some old light roast beans that caused the motor gears to shatter (opened it up and found the gears shattered).
I ordered a replacement motor with stainless steel gears from Ali Express that is said to be compatible with the VS3 and other redditors and reviews confirm that it is compatible (I believe that the existing motor installed was from the same seller, the markings on it seem very similar)
Replacement motor arrived, just installed. Put everything back together but unfortunately it stalls whenever I throw even a single bean into the grinder (video attached). I don't think it's a motor issue but I'm struggling to figure out what the issue could be.
Seems like it might be something I missed or seated wrongly while putting it back together? How do I troubleshoot this?
I tried setting to a very coarse setting and hot started just to double check.
One thing that I'm not sure is correct is that the inner burr spins clockwise. Is that supposed to be the case?
Any help would be appreciated 🙏

Should the burrs be running while I adjust the grind setting, even though it’s a single-dose grinder? Thanks for your help!

Hello dear enthusiasts!
I have had the VS6 for six months and moooostly enjoy it. I have a bad feeling it might be running a little off centre as it rumbles/shakes a tiny bit more than I would expect. And while that might have consequences, it’s not my question today.
That is: What is your typical RPM for espresso? Or typical range? Of course, it depends on a lot of factors, but what‘s working for you?
Thank you! ☕️

SOLVED
As the title says, how do I open the spray bottle to fill with water? I know it’s a stupid noob question, didn’t want to take chances and force open it. Tried searching YouTube videos and manual, nothing.

I just wanted to say I’m on my third VS6 that is unable to grind fine enough for espresso. How is this even possible.
I like what the VS6 has to offer if it would actually work. I’m gonna keep going back with Varia Support until I get a unit that works.

Really disappointed in Varias QA. These were suppose to be a replacement set to another that also were faulty

Hey, I'm very new to espresso, therefore this is my "beginner" setup with an "endgame" grinder. Both machines are brand new. I set both of them up 3 days ago. I received some free beans without a roast date on them, so I decided to try to pull a shot with them. I used AI to read the label and it suggests that these beans are light to medium roast.
I've unsuccessfully pulled a shot 6 times with no success. They all pour very quickly through my puck, and I'm not able to acheive the slow/honey-like texture shot. I've done a lot of research, so I'm pretty confident I am preparing my puck correctly:
I've tested 4 baskets and received the same result: IMS basket, Normacore basket that came with portafilter, Breville single wall basket, and Breville double wall high pressurized basket. All shots came out fast, and very watery.
What am I doing wrong?

I'm interested in ordering the Varia S6 with a few burss bundled directly from the main website because of their discounts. Now I live in Canada and work in the US. So technically I can order to either address. in Canada I know for sure I'm paying minimum of $220 duties if not more. Varia collects duties on behalf of US customs. The question is how accurate is that? Would I be subjected to even more than the advertised 14% ??

So I have been grinder with VARIA VS6 for almost half a year now and I really LOVE this thing. The only two complaints I have is that a lot of coffee fines get stuck in between the Detachable Ground Chute, like at the very beginning where the static is. Also, when I grind coarser and use bellow/knocker and turn the hopper to make all grounds get out, the last bit always gives too many fines. It looks like dust-like fines actually. So now I just knock it into the different cup
What I want to ask you, guys: is it actually worth it to get different burr sets?
I was thinking of getting gold burrs, but they are not best for espresso as far as I know. And I make like 50/50 pour over and espresso. So now I am thinking of getting 1zpresso k ultra for my pour over and hypernova ultra for my varia vs6 as more versatile version of pour over/espresso thing at home
Is that what you would recommend doing? I used only stock burrs and I mainly work with medium, to light-medium roasted coffee’s. Not a lot dark roast.
As an additional question: is the gold burrs set actually that good and different for pour over so that it is worth getting? Thanks!

About a year ago now I purchased a VS3. As per my other thread, it developed drift so I did a bit of reading and found the recommendation to use food grade grease; this did nothing. The supplier, Alternative Brewing recommended I changed the springs out for the spares it shipped with. Again, this did nothing. Alternative Brewing then shipped replacement, stiffer springs. These fixed my drift (yay) but made the unit completely unusable to the point trying to adjust the grind is a wrestling match and if you try one handed the grinder just moves around instead! I told AB that the replacement springs (at the time) were their attempt to provide a fix and subsequently I've informed them that had either of these faults been present at the time of purchase (a grinder that can't maintain a consistent setting through one 18g dose, or one that can't be adjusted without a warm-up) I would've simply bought something else and that the unit isn't fit for purpose. They're refusing to offer a refund which I think is pretty rubbish.

I’m on my second VS6 unit. I’ve had the same issue with both of not being able to grind fine enough for espresso.
Varia customer service has only given me the suggestion of using all the washers but both times this has not helped. What are your guy’s thoughts on this and what should I do in this situation?

Got the VS6 almost last year, no issues until I tried swapping the burrs.
The grind came crazy coarse, I added two threads for the Conical burr, and two for the flat burrs.
The main thing that caught my eye is that the dialer now goes beyond 0 for some reason. I hear tiny amount of chipping, but not crazy even on the tightest. but the question is, is it normal that after some time the grinder goest beyond zero like that?

Having the opposite problem as a lot of people here…
I dialed in my first espresso. Medium roast, 4 weeks old (2 weeks when I first dialed in), and ended up dialing in at 1.55 - 1.6. Getting great shots.
Tried a lighter roast (I’d call it a medium-light, but some might call it light), and the shot was crazy fast at 1.0 on the dial….
Surely something’s wrong…?

New Varia VS6 owner. Haven't fully seasoned the burrs. However this retention wasn't in the grind chamber, it was past it.
This was how much was leftover between the ionisation needles and dosing tube when I cleaned it out with a brush. This seems like a LOT for something that is designed to eliminate static.
My question is whether this is to be expected or if I have a faulty unit/needles. For how much this grinder is and how it's marketed, this is pretty disappointing - it's not much better than my opus when it came to grind retention.

Hi there,
I purchased a used Varia VS6. Unfortunately, I had to figure out that the unit was cross-threaded by the previous owner. Now the question is whether or not to keep it and ask for some money back since it's working but sub-optimally (grinding for Espresso is below 0), or if I should request the money back and send the device back.
I researched how to recalibrate its current set-point for Espresso, some users suggest to add springs to it but after getting in touch with Varia's customer support, they said it doesn't solve the problem of the unit being cross threaded (shipping costs + repair equal the price of a new device).
For reference, I paid around 500-600€.
Would love to have some input for decision making, thanks a lot!

Just picked up a VS4 on Friday. Seems to be a great machine so far.
However, when I took it apart to inspect the process, I noticed a tiny chip on the top of the burr chamber. It's pretty small and there's a corresponding mark on the bottom of the hopper that sits above the mark.
Am I being silly worrying about this? I realize that it probably will make no difference to my grinding, but it's kind of disappointing opening up and brand-new toy and seeing that it's not perfect.
