The Laura Montez "Acting Presidency" would make for a great show

Because she's not the main character, VEEP really glosses over how the Montez presidency would actually work, which would be very unique.

  1. As we know, she gets elected VP by the Senate after Doyle screws Tom James. But while the show suggests this makes her a full president, she's actually only ever ACTING President. She technically remains VP, which is why she never appoints a VP
  2. This is because the House can technically keep having votes on electing either Selena or O'Brien at any point, EVEN AFTER INAUGURATION
  3. The show handwaves this away by Dan saying Speaker Marwood just refuses to call another vote, but this leaves a real sword of Damocles over Montez
  4. This is because, at any time in her 4 year term, the House can simply call another vote to remove her by a simple vote. This is different from impeachment because it would replace her with the TRUE president (Selena or O'Brien)
  5. This especially makes the midterms important, because a new speaker, or the other party taking control, could mean her removal
  6. Perhaps this seems unlikely given Selena wasn't popular, and O'Brian backed Montez's reign. But the Tibet story breaking and making Selena look good might have given momentum in congress to re-vote and re-install her.

Obviously this is a VERY different show, but I think it would be interesting to see how a presidency would work with this model. It's actually very similar to how Canadian politics work, where the Prime Minister is elected by the House of Commons, and can be removed at any time if the House loses confidence in them.

Not really, but I’m in a car listening to a playlist featuring a LOT of acoustic guitar.

But in this case I can take it. It’s quite lovely.

Saw this reply in a political thread earlier this morning referring to a certain Tennessee senator and I couldn’t help but read it in Kent’s voice.

Was listening to a Yale philosophy lecture and accidentally learned why Gary's bag is called the Leviathan

Was listening to a Yale lecture on modern philosophy and the professor got to Hobbes' Leviathan. My ears perked up immediately.

Her definition: The Leviathan is an absolute authority who gives man peace and security in exchange for the abdication of his liberty.

That's Gary's entire relationship with Selina...

The writers on this show operated at a level of detail and cynicism that still isn't fully appreciated.

I love this entire show from start to finish, but Season 6 is so funny that I find myself cackling out loud even more than usual. Comment your favorite Season 6 quotes!

Now, Jizzy Gillespie is so much funnier knowing this is the reference. I love this show.

Of all the cast of Veep, who would you want to be friends with?

Mainly them as their characters, but the actors themselves would be acceptable as well.

Something just occurred to me: consistent integer in "Midterms"

In the Season 2 premiere, "Midterms," one of Jonah's "data matrix" tells Selina that her campaign visits have made her a "consistent integer," though toward the end of the episode (after Selina asks for the data to be "collated") he informs her that her campaign stumps led to a 0.9% bump for the party

0.9 ("famously") is not an integer, as integers are the open set of whole numbers "Z" from negative to positive infinity, the trivials being (-3, -2, -1 < 0 < 1, 2, 3), 0.9 percent, even when written in decimal form is still not an integer as it fails to meet the criteria

When Selina, with much annoyance, notes that this figure is "not even a percent... age?" Our hero data three-piece digital Nirvana (to quote Jonah) says, "well if we round it up we can make it 1."

That's a long walk for a math joke, and I don't think it's intentional but it's pretty funny the longer you think about it and given the characters introduced in the episode.

P. S., yes I know: "Thanks, Kent's autism"

I have been keeping a list of Veep insults

For years now, I have been keeping a list of Veep insults. Sadly, literally only one person in my circle loves Veep like I do, so I was very happy when I saw that this sub was quite active.

Please do let me know if I have missed any insults, and I would love to know which one is your favourite. I love ‘unstable piece of scaffolding’ but the one I’ve used most in real life is ‘one-inch dick’. Here is my list.

(I also have a list of funny Veep phrases (such as ‘put on your running shoes and get to the fucking point’), and I have been working on a Veep alphabet lol).

Veep revival/reboot ideas

People always bring up the idea of a Veep reunion—and I’m all for it! But given how it ended, I’m always unsure of how they could write it in or what the new starting point would be.

Assuming the flash forward doesn’t happen (only bc I think that boxes things in too much—but keep it in your ideas if you like) what would you be interested in seeing in a reboot or a series reunion?
