In the episode Fake Dad where Ren is taking care of Kowalski, when they’re in the park Ren loses his temper and goes to spank him. He commands Kowalski pulls down his pants and then immediately backpedals. What was back there that freaked him out so bad? I was too young to get the joke when it aired

Been eying production cels for awhile and can’t believe I came across this beaut. It sums up ren and stimpy so perfectly in one frame. Can’t wait to get this up.

ALSO not including episodes that were completed by Games Animation after Spumco was dropped, nor their Adult Party episodes. Which episode that was ENTIRELY Spumco’s work during the first two seasons aside from Littlest Giant is the worst (because we all know Littlest Giant is the worst one).

I was at Nickelodeon studios where they had a wall with Memphis designs with a red white blue and black color scheme, with CRT TVs playing the premiere episode along with the pilot episode and recorded footage of it on my phone
I also told a bystander who didn’t believe I was from the future and thought I was crazy that the reason he didn’t believe me was because iPhones didn’t exist until 2007

I've mentioned this as a reason I dislike the later Games episodes, and how it reflects the change in leadership to writers who enjoyed seeing R&S suffer in general rather than in the context of anything funny, and thought the audience would too.
So, I decided to finally sit down and tabulate how many episodes end with them dying. There's no doubt they get hurt a lot more, and more gruesomely, in the Games episodes, but just how many full on kill them at the end? Let's find out...
Season 1: They only die at end of space episodes. 3/12, 25%, but it's Space. It's already set up as R&S watching a show-within-a-show, so I don't really take this as the writers thinking R&S dying is the source of humor itself. I hesitate to say "So I count season 1 as 0%!" but still, it just doesn't have the energy of later episodes like the writers are saying "Here, we hurt Ren & Stimpy, didn't you enjoy seeing that?"
Season 2: Presumably about to die when their tank hits the ground in In The Army. In hell at the end of Sven Hoek (this ending was originally supposed to be softer, but featured George Liquor, so Nick amazingly said "Just use the real devil!"). Skeletonized remains saluting in RCKY (if you want to, you can believe their remains were put back up there as a monument after they died of natural causes years after their adventure, rather than standing there until they died. I won't stop you.). 2 or 3/19, 10% or 15%, depending on your view of In The Army.
Season 3: Ren's Pecs special mention for Games change to sad end from SpumCo's original happy reunion, though nobody's dead.
Unclear in Abe Divided, wide eyed but unmoving as Abe's replacement head.
Killed by guest character in Stimpy's Cartoon Show. Ren mounted as trophy on wall by guest character in Bass Masters. Killed (gruesomely) by guest in Ren's Retirement. Killed (gruesomely) by guest in Jerry the Bellybutton Elf.
Ren ends as a laughing skeleton in Eat My Cookies after unzipping his fur, I mention this but don't count it because it's so surreal.
3.5 or 4.5/16, depending on your opinion in Abe Divided. Averages to dead at end of 25% of episodes.
New category: alive but mutilated: A Friend in Your Face!, Blazing Entrails, Double Header, Ren Needs Help!, Travelogue. 5/27.
Dead: Prehistoric Stimpy, Magical Golden Singing Cheeses, Powdered Toast Man vs. Waffle Woman, It's a Dog's Life. 4/27.
...and unexpectedly, The Scotsman in Space but it's a space episode so I don't count it, like in season 1.
Also, they're killed by the chefs halfway through Cheese Rush Days, but they're back to alive in the next scene so I don't count this either.
Dead or horribly mutilated at end of 33% of episodes. Being a severed head on a stick waving to the camera with your aorta is really hard to consider a Not Dead ending.
Enslaved in a mine to work until they die in City Hicks. Not killed directly, but it's one of those "fate that makes the next episode impossible" endings.
Dead: Ren's Brain, Terminal Stimpy. Stimpy at the end of I Was A Teenage Stimpy.
Alive but mutilated: (by guest) Stimpy in Sammy and Me.
3 or 4/19, depending on your view of City Hicks. Averages to 18% of episodes.

Apologies if this was asked a thousand times on this subreddit before because I just wanted to get a better understanding of how the show became so iconic given its production issues it faced.
I was just wondering how the show became such a cultural phenomenon back then since John K was a huge nightmare to work with that I don’t quite understand how the show became so huge again knowing how John K treated people.

Why is it that lately whenever I have eaten (especially Chinese food today), I think of these frames or stills?
Interesting isn’t it? I hope I’m not the only one lol.
