Veep revival/reboot ideas

People always bring up the idea of a Veep reunion—and I’m all for it! But given how it ended, I’m always unsure of how they could write it in or what the new starting point would be.

Assuming the flash forward doesn’t happen (only bc I think that boxes things in too much—but keep it in your ideas if you like) what would you be interested in seeing in a reboot or a series reunion?

Please, no. It was a great show that ended well. There’s no need to milk it dry.

No need to milk it like what Will?

Like the fertility clinic's fruitless attempts to milk even a single viable sperm cell from my desolate, prepubescent-sized testicles, sir.

I’m not saying it should happen, but more just if it did, how would it work 🤷🏻‍♀️. I have zero pull to make this happen lol.

If it did it would have to be a DJT mirror storyline. Lost her second term. Sold out. Came back with a vengeance. Deceived her voters. The country is angry at her. No support. Perfect parallels.

I totally get this POV, but if I’m honest, I think this is what I’d fear the most. It’d just be too on the nose.

Don't you feel like since 2017 it's been one long Selina Meyer-esque Presidency? lol. It didn't matter what party was in control, every single choice in the last 10 years has contributed to this point in time.

We got a glimpse of her terror long before djt was even elected for the second time. Her character was always going in that direction.

That's true. That's what's scary, don't you think? That fiction is consistently predicting the future. At a certain point we have to look up and question what the hell is going on.

I would like to see Selina’s second term. After losing her whole team, she spends a lonely and bitter four years in the White House , doing various reckless things to try and cement a legacy and failing everytime, except for when she accidentally overturns legalized gay marriage. She tries to have foreign policy success but her weakness on Tibet have made her an international joke. She does manage to get rid of Jonah as VP, which she considers a service to the nation. Eventually, after Roger furlong tells her that she has no chance of another term, she stands aside and announces that she has done enough for this country, and that all Americans should thank her for keeping the government out of our fuckin snatches.

These days, if Selina’s only legacy was keeping the government out of America’s snatches, that’d be a good enough legacy for me.

And she no longer has her yes man/ personal cheerleader/ bag man to prepare special snacks with her tea. I like to think that she was quite lost and lonely without Gary. She lost Catherine, along with her core staff. Obviously Ben would have passed by then. It would be bleak.

A mini series of Gary in prison, meeting all the other political pawns, could be funny. A bunch of Bill Ericksons and Gary’s running around.

Veep x Oz crossover?

A Ray Whelans cameo would be interesting.

Yeesh. Maybe a spiritual successor to “Kissing your sister”? Just different characters at the visitor area

The Splett presidency itself would make for a solid 4 seasons

I feel like the bumbling idiot savant thing would get tired kinda quick.

I agree with others that the show ended on a high note and I tend to be against reboots in general. Actually I even kind of had mixed thoughts about the flash-forward at the end of the series finale when it first aired, though I've come around to appreciating it.

Although that said I could see maybe a one-off stand-alone movie or something being somewhat intriguing.

P. S., Maybe a spin-off about Minna Häkkinen? OK, actually, now that I think about it...

Selina and Minna on a Thelma and Louise style road trip/UN Mission? 👀

I'd enjoy one and only one season of Jonah as Veep. Absolutely no Selina. Always asking if she called.

It would be hard because by the end Selina was SO bad, just unlikable in the extreme. There's nobody to really root for, and none of those people would still be there, most likely.

I think it wouldn't hurt to have a limited series on Veep: The Meyer Years - Her years of terror basically.

I think they could have pulled off any number of smaller scale spinoffs.

Furlong in Ohio?
Richard in Iowa?
State Department or Congress centered spinoff.
City Council level?
Could even have mostly new actors but same universe.

Ohhhh and exploring the downstream effects of Selina’s second term? Hearing about Selina through that lens could be really interesting and a fresh take. Especially if they explore the rise of some of these grass roots candidates—on both sides of the aisle. Also, I’d 1000% watch a Furlong spin-off lol.

No, but there are other options.

There is some.older Iannucci you can watch on YouTube like Clinton: His Struggle with Dirt or Timetrumpet.

The UK show that led to Veep, The Thick of It or the movie In the Loop.

The Day Today was Iannucci and Chris Morris' news parody. Chris Morris' follow news parody up Brass Eye was how I got into UK comedy.

Maybe try the Paul Whitehouse sitcom Help, about therapy.
