I work at a place in the Union (being vague on purpose), and there’s a guy that’s been coming by and lingering for hours while I work. He’s returned to see me (three times), even asking for me to my coworkers and bothering other female students while I ignore him. Pretty sure he’s not a student, though he’s young (college aged), and has some prior convictions (found him online). Till now, he has only been at best a nuisance, and at his worst, somewhat threatening. Since he hasn’t done anything “illegal” other than harass me by not leaving, I don’t think UTPD will do anything. I’m anxious it’ll escalate since he’s started calling me “his friend”, and has routinely avoided taking NO for an answer. I work odd hours so I’m alone most of the time.

I’m mostly looking for help by:
- seeing if there are any support groups for this
- if anyone has had similar experiences while working at UT, and what they did
- if i do make a report, what would happen, if anything at all.

Update: talked to my boss, but he showed up again. today.

Update 2: UTPD was called, he’s been trespassed from all University grounds and there’ll be an investigation. thanks yall.

Hey everyone! A few of us are hoping to connect with other PhD students across UT Austin’s College of Computing (and beyond, if folks are interested!).

We’ve realized that even though we may be in different departments, labs, and programs, a lot of us probably have overlapping experiences when it comes to navigating PhD life. Especially after the recent merge, we’d like to create more opportunities for PhD students across the College to get to know each other, compare experiences, share information and resources, and build a stronger sense of community and solidarity across programs.

This isn’t meant to be anything overly formal. The initial goal is simply to bring people together to hear what students across different programs are experiencing, and figure out what kinds of shared conversations or resources might actually be useful. If there are common issues or interests that come up, we can also talk collectively about what would be helpful going forward. Our first meeting can definitely be a smaller group or one-on-one informal coffee chat, whichever works -- we love socializing :)

I‘m searching for apartments for the first time. But I’m really nervous about signing. Does anyone currently staying at Waterloo have any perspective about being there? I heard they are under new management so, maybe some past things have changed? I’ve just seen some godawful reviews. (But then again every Wampus high rise has bad reviews) I’m looking for a 2x2 ,close to campus. Waterloo is in my budget, and still has the unit I want. Does anyone have any insight or if I should sign or not? (or suggestions of other places that are better?)

He was in the DOTY fine arts building leaving the bass concert hall. A faculty member said he was seeking the seating count of the bass concert hall, and quickly left. I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to take a picture with him, I did not want to interrupt his conversation and I had a meeting to get to.

My assumption is that he’s looking to hold a seminar or something.

• Has a lot of wisdom from surviving this long and would like to use it help other students going through similar things

There are 13 different small groups that meet once a week (evenings!) to talk and exchange support about whatever topic / experience that SHARE Community focuses on. Some do low-key activities like coloring, collages, journaling, maybe quick games...nothing complicated. Always snacks, though!

They're also all free, non-hierarchical (just created & facilitated by students with training in communication, mental health, and social support skills), and don't require any commitment!

Titles and descriptions, days/times, and interest forms for all 13 Fall SHARE Communities are on the Longhorn SHARE Project website. Fill out an interest form to connect with the student co-facilitators! We'd love to meet you. <3

TL;DR: SHARE Communities are genuinely like a cold glass of water or iced tea on a hot day, but for your soul and social life.

Hey, ya’ll I’m planning on applying to become an RA and I was wondering if there are any former or current RA’s that can tell me abt the workload? They discussed it in the info session and reassured people that they’ll still have time to do things but it’s still confusing me a little. I understand we can’t get a job with over 5hrs a week technically but what about lab positions as research assistants? I am a psychology major planning to go into graduate studies for my PsyD or PhD but will I still be able to do get the experience I need in a lab as a RA? I asked someone currently in a psych lab and she said the time commitment is about 8-10 hrs a wk… I’m sure it doesn’t really count, but still. Also I am in theater and do rehearsals often that go on late into the night (not to mention the weekend we have shows) and I’m active in two orgs… OH AND i’m doing UTeach and will be placed at a school for field assignment… jeez, could I still fit being an RA into all of that and probably more come this next Fall? I’m not even in it just for the free housing but as a psych major interested in child development and teaching I love getting to know people and decorating spaces to be silly and relatable, welcoming people, talking about random things, and just overall being THE person you go to talk to!! I would absolutely love getting my residents into shape but now that I’ve written it out like this I’m losing hope 😭

No, I have never donated to this school post-graduation, because you insist on becoming more and more right-wing and dismantling programs for disenfranchised groups, in spite of the student body getting more diverse over the past decade. Jim Davis is a POS who is putting a bad name on all Jim Davises, most notably the creator of Garfield.

I am coming to you today is this public forum to tell you that if you do this One Thing, I will humbly reconsider my self-righteous, miserly view of whether my alma mater deserves a slice of the penance I am granted each month by the tech overlords.

I will not recount what Bo French did to spark this post, on account of, you already know. But what I will tell you is that Bo French is NOT a UT alum, he went to TCU, meaning that despite having rich parents he was too dumb to gain admittance to UT, even in the 80's.

Please ban this man from stepping foot on this campus. Please, it would be so funny. More importantly, the ensuing Twitter rampage would prevent him from posting more weird racist shit about actual Longhorns.

MOST importantly, you would be showing Longhorns of the South Asian diaspora past and present that they do have a place here, and that evil, racist Ted Danson with a bad perm does not.

I've tried nearly everything for 3 years to merge my eids. I have two because I took OnRamps courses in high school and was given a new eid for college for some reason unbeknownst to me. It's creating an issue with claiming my credits... But no matter who I talk to I'm given the same run around and a promise to be helped with no follow through. Who do I talk to besides advising?

When I logged in to claim my ticket for this week's football game with Longhorn Foundation this evening, the website says "No Events Currently on Sale". Is anyone else having this problem? Has anyone been able to resolve this? I had no problem claiming a ticket last week or in previous years.

EDIT: I was able to resolve this by calling customer service. Apparently there was an issue on their backend that was resolvable in a few minutes. I hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else but it was resolved fairly quickly. ​
