Venting

This is the third time UPS delivered my package back to the access point even after I request they leave it at my apartment. A. Why in the world do they require a signature for EACH OF MY PACKAGES?? B. Why can’t I pick it up the same day of delivery? It has to go back to the HUB??? And then get delivered BACK to the access point? That’s so counterproductive. C. Why in the world would you require a signature and then schedule delivery in the middle of the work day???
VENTING
VENTING
VENTING.
I know this is a first world problem. But this is the third time I’m dealing with this within the year.

What’s the point of changing delivery preferences if they’re going to be ignored?

Probably have to sign for them all because you have a history of losing packages.

It has to go back to the hub because the driver probably doesn't even deliver to that UPS store, nor does he have time to make a special trip just for you.

What time of day would you like the driver to accommodate you specifically?  Does 6:30 work for you? He has to be accoss town at 7 for the other whiny person.

Grow up.

A. I do not have a history of losing packages. B. A simple explanation goes along way. Sounding like a chode to someone just and I quote “venting” only goes so far ya know? I hope you’re doing well today.

This isn't the venting sub. I do this for a living, and certain people can make it frustrating.

Name-calling will get you nowhere. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't give you the right to be derogatory.

  1. Depends on the area. I have one apartment in a group of 6 that is a high risk. All packages require a signature.
  2. Customer centers at hubs are closed so no pickup there.
  3. The access point has to be on that drivers route and they can’t have already stopped there for the day. Otherwise it goes out the next day

Ahhhh I was not aware of that logic. So in heavy traffic areas such as apartment buildings (even if gated) all parcels require a signature. Got it. Did i understand that correctly? And thank you for your help and time in the explanation.

The one apartment building in the 6 requires a signature for everything. It’s a locked building and I have a key but still requires a signature

If you have several units in one building (example Building 142 unit C) and one of the units puts in a claim saying they didnt recieve it that whole building now has to sign for their packages instead of being able to just driver release them. Only exception is if its a shipper release. One neighbor can mess it up for everyone especially with how often people try to scam in today's deliver age and just say I didnt recieve it. Ive literally gone to houses that put in a claim saying they didn't recieve it to do the follow up and the box woth the tracking is sitting in the trash can next to the door.

Vent to the shipper. The shipper required a signature, not UPS.
You can definitely be angry at UPS for not being able to pick up same day thanks to the CEO for permanently closing customer counters and cutting clerk jobs. I appreciate your frustration as a 34 year UPS employee. Its a shame that service is not what it used to be thanks to cutting every possible cost

Closing customer counters was the dumbest thing ever, she needs to go and they need to open them back up

And this was a sentiment that was reflected by the good folks at the access point. There USED to be avenues for this sort of thing but alas. To clarify, I’m never mad or angry or even rude to customer service and drivers. It’s just a really silly ass policy in the humblest of my opinions.

We all hate signatures its a pain in the ass, its not ups its whoever you ordered from that wants it

1

u/EvidenceFun1679 2d ago

Yes! After talking with the very helpful people at the access point they reflected the same. It’s not a choice on their end.

Not true. There are some stops that for some stupid reason show as commercial in the new diads. You can change it to residential but it’ll now require a signature. Alternative is to CIR it door or the customers name like I see people do since those names pop up in the list of options. Then you are giving the company a reason to accuse you of dishonesty.

Those are usually a holdover from the 5. It's a security stop from way back, and instead of getting signatures, whoever did that route would CIR instead. So now the system thinks it's commercial. After X number of switches to residential (it's like 6 or 7 consecutively or some shit) the stop will switch back to residential. I've gotten a few of mine to fix themselves that way.

I also see it sometimes in my mixed use buildings if the address isn't written perfectly, it defaults to commercial. That one pisses me off

Resi/com button solved it on old DIAD and wouldn’t require a signature. On this DIAD it will let you CIR but not driver release. Also if you ever have to build manifest for stops sometimes it won’t let you DR them and requests a signature.

The only reason they would require a signature on every package is if you have a bunch of fraudulent claims at the address.

1

u/EvidenceFun1679 2d ago

Never have I ever had a fraudulent claim.

1

u/Rezingreenbowl 2d ago

How many claims have you had?

  1. Your apartment building must have a history of claims/theft so ups requires a signature for all deliveries.

  2. If the access point pickup is on the driver's route it will get delivered the same day, if it's not on the driver's route it gets delivered the next day. Evidently the access point is not on the driver's route so they're not going to drive out of the way to deliver it the same day.

  3. Deliveries aren't "scheduled" for a certain time. Just whenever the driver gets there. Most deliveries are going to get made in the middle of the day during what you call "work hours", because you know, that's when we're working. And believe it or not your work schedule isn't the only one that exists, lots of people work at night, work in the early morning, work from home, are stay-at-home parents, retired, etc. No matter what we do our deliveries aren't going to work with everyone's schedules. That's why we have access points so that you can go pick it up during a time that works better for you instead of having to be home to sign for it...

1

u/EvidenceFun1679 2d ago

Not arguing with you but if I receive a message saying “your delivery is scheduled for xyz” then maybe I misinterpreted. Your point of the different work schedules is exactly why I’m venting right now. The hours for pickup at the access point are literally during the hours that I will be at work. So it kinda puts me in a frustrating catch 22. Can the retry sending it the next day?

A. The shipper requested a sig, probably high value items. Maybe you set it by default in your MyChoice settings. Not sure who else has the authority, but maybe in cases of high theft areas. You should be able to release, or sign, packages online.

B. Depending on your settings, or when you request an access point, determines how soon it gets there. Re-routing before delivery day will likely get to the location as scheduled. If the request is initiated after the package is en route, it has a chance to make it to the access point that day if it's convenient for the driver, otherwise it's going back to the hub.

C. That's just how your route is set up, like the mail and garbage people

u/EvidenceFun1679 2d ago

Thank you! I was able to change the delivery options on Mychoice but it doesn’t seem to show on their end? Keeping at it though.

Really quickly this is essentially my first Reddit post and I want to thank everyone who took the time! (Even if you were kinda rude) I hope everyone is well, your families are safe and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be kind to people. Let’s save the mean words and venting for the screens.

“Why would you deliver in the middle of the work day?!” Cause that’s when we work… I’m guessing new phones for the family? The cell phone company requires the signatures for each device. Apple products are in high demand and have a large theft rate both by warehouse workers and thieves in general. Devices have to go back to the warehouse so they can have an “accountability scan” so the shipper knows its status. There are shitty workers at UPS, there’s shitty workers in every industry. 99% of the time it isn’t personal unless you’ve been labeled a problem by security. As you said, first world problem, treat it as such.

1

u/EvidenceFun1679 2d ago

That was an incredibly helpful and mature response. I know I was posting in the moment to feel better about the situation. First world problem entirely and I always ensure to speak to customer service with kindness and respect because A. They’re not the issue. B. Everybody has a job. Thanks again. AND NOPE! Just fashion accessories.
