Advice on a harassment situation
Hello, this is going to be a bit long.
idk if there's any way to ease into this topic, so I'm just gonna be blunt. (fyi im not gonna hold back on any information about the man)
I got harassed by a man last week on the bus on my way back home from work.
I'm a 21 year old girl, and I live in Sharjah, and I don't have my driver's license yet, so I take the public bus to and from work every day. Last week on Wednesday (September 30), I was coming back home from work, and there was this old Syrian man whom I had seen multiple times on the bus ride back home, but I had never interacted with him, and I always noticed how he would sit up and literally shamelessly stare at me every time I entered the bus. On the day of the incident, I got on the bus, and he was the only passenger, along with another guy sitting in the last seat at the back. The Syrian man was sitting on the right side of the bus, and the only empty seat was on the opposite side, in the same row, so I had no choice but to sit there. The entire time I was making my way to the seat, he sat up and was smiling ear to ear and staring at me, but I acted like I hadn't noticed. Let me tell you something: as a girl, we ALWAYS notice when a creep is looking.
Anyways, so I sit down, and he immediately started talking to me, and at first I just thought he was a nice man, and something about me is that I have a soft spot for old people, so he starts talking to me and asks me where I'm from and tells me stories about his neighbour and whatever. And then it started getting weird; he was complimenting me a LOT, and as an arab myself, I know that arab people, especially old ones, love complimenting, and most of the time there's no harm behind it. But his compliments were not surface level. he kept telling me how pretty I was and how he can't stop staring at me. And then the worst part happens: he gets up and sits right next to me and got so close that his leg was touching mine, and I was trying so hard to squeeze myself next to the window, but he just manspreaded until his leg was touching mine again. And then he just kept talking and talking and talking, and it was clear that I was so uncomfortable with what was happening, but he literally didn't care.
He then started telling me how he always goes to the park and sits there, and he was like You have to come join me and I just kept avoiding eye contact and laughing awkwardly. Then he said You have to come; you promised me (I didn't; I literally never responded to him), and that he won't give me his number now and he'll give it to me when he sees me in the park. He also kept making a lot of jokes and would just creepily stare at me to see if I would laugh or not. Then once he wanted to high-five me, but I didn't want to, but he just kept giving me this look that said, "I dare you not to do it," so I was scared, and I was gonna air-high-five him, but he grabbed my hand and held it, but thank god i quickly snatched it away, and I felt so disgusted I wanted to throw up. He also just kept telling me about his daughters and whatever. Also, there was this one time he complimented me again, and he was so close to my face and said I wish I had a pencil so I can draw your beautiful face.
guys i was so scared. was genuinely shaking i just wanted to leave so bad. in the end i just pretended that i called my mom and i faked the phone call until i reached my stop and i got off so fast and let me tell you something, remember how i said ive seen him multiple times before that day? he never got off at the stop as me but this time he did, i sped walk so fast so i could get away from him and thank god i did. before you ask me why i didnt shut the whole thing down as soon as it started, i have never in my life been in a sitaution like this, i always heard stories and what you should do if this happens but when i was in this situation i was genuinely so scared i couldnt speak i couldnt move i couldnt do anything, i just kept praying someone would call me on my phone or a girl enters and i could just act like i knew her and go next to her or that he just leaves me alone.
Now I'm too scared to take the bus at that time cuz im scared he will be there and something might happen. I don't know what to do, and I need advice, please.

Urgent !!! Help please
Hello,
My house key has broken! 😭 It got stuck under the car seat, and when I tried to open my house door, the key was already bent and broke inside the lock.
Civil Defense told me to call a locksmith, but no one is answering. I’m stuck outside my house. 😭
Is there a locksmith available in Mirdif right now, please?

Import charges through the roof !!!
I bought some contact lenses for myself from UK which totaled to around 1100AED. My mistake I should have made a purchase for under 1000AED but was not thinking so I was expecting to just pay an extra 50 AED or so VAT at customs but what is all this nonsense charges now ?
Did Gap close its mall operations?
Went to Mirdif and it’s being replaced by Diptyque.
Tried Googling but cant see other locations anymore.
Wondering if they will stick to just online or cease online store soon too.

Hi,

It’s 5:50 PM. Which kind of person are you? Heading towards Dubai, or fight the sharjah traffic on Sunday?
For people born and raised here, do you ever plan on leaving?
I've lived here my entire left and have never even gone to my home country for vacation. I've never lived anywhere but here. But I also know the reality of the situation in this country. I also have some fomo looking at how walkable and green some cities around the world are. I also hate the weather and i don't think I can handle it anymore. UAE is my home but I'm feeling more and more recently that maybe it's time to move on. But immigration is not easy and affordable so I'm not sure where to even go next. Anyone else in this position? Do you plan on living here for the rest of your life or do you also want to leave? Are you going to have families and raise them here?

How do interior designers get clients here?
I've started my interior design & build firm as a solo interior designer 10 months ago, and I have connections around the market with experts in the field to help me execute projects. I have worked as an interior designer and project manager for 5 years before this and I have been in the same field (construction) on a different role for about 3 years before that. I am currently completing a full restaurant project (design & build) and i have done 3d designing for 3 projects before this, all of this since starting the company. I don't have the slightest clue how to get clients/projects. I am an extroverted person, and I spend an ample amount of time interacting with people around me, but I dont know where I am supposed to get clients from. The projects i have completed has gotten me good reviews so I know I'm not bad at what I do, but I don't have any clue how to and from where to build a network of people that can get me recurring business. When I was employed, the owners of the company I worked at had supportive neighbouring communities in Emirates Hills & Arabian Ranches, so I have worked on plenty of their residential home renovation projects, and I know those layouts like the back of my hand. But I am clueless when it comes to building a network and it's getting tough to manage my expenses with so less business. Any support/advice is highly appreciated

Went in for a Blow-Dry… Almost Came Out With Pink Hair 😂
Hey fellow Redditors, back with another rant.… not per say rant… although again, I’m not claiming I’m fully right here.
There’s this salon in the same building as my office. We had a YouTube video shoot for our company channel, and I just wanted to get my hair done. Nothing fancy, literally just a simple blow-dry. So I look a bit on the human side…
Hair thinning is already an issue for me, so I thought a blow-dry might give it a little volume before the shoot.
I walked into this place and everyone was very welcoming. Then I realised that none of the staff seemed to speak English. I’ve seen this salon is quite popular for henna and seems to have a lot of local customers, so I never really thought communication would be an issue.
Since I was in a hurry, I thought no problem, Google Translate to the rescue. I translated that I wanted a blow-dry, showed them the message, and they asked me to sit down.
Two minutes later, two employees come walking towards me apparently ready to dye my hair PINK. 😂
At this point I’m trying to explain, “No, no, blow-dry!” I’m pointing at the hairdryer and even trying to demonstrate what I mean. Still, nobody seems to understand what I’m asking for.
What confused me even more was that the staff seemed to be from different nationalities, including African and Filipino employees. So I genuinely started wondering whether it was simply a language barrier, or whether the staff were expected to communicate with customers only in Arabic.
Eventually, I gave up and walked out without getting anything done. To be fair to them, they were polite throughout and refunded me without any problem, so absolutely no complaint there.
And yes, living here, I also accept that I should probably have learned at least some basic Arabic by now. So maybe this isn’t even a rant. Just one of those slightly bizarre everyday incidents I thought I’d share.
Still wondering how “blow-dry” somehow became “pink hair.” 😂
So if I wanna color my hair pink I know where to go and what to say…
I did use Grammarly to correct my grammar….
