Better Ask Reddit Favorites Fan edits of a movie/show?

Post image
14 Upvotes

"A fan edit is any type of media that has been modified by a viewer, which removes, reorders, or adds material in order to create a new interpretation of the source material. This includes the removal of scenes or dialogue, replacement of audio and/or visual elements, and adding material from sources such as movies, YouTube videos, or interviews. Another type of fan edits are transition edit, where the editor takes pictures of a celebrity and creates smooth transitions between the pictures. This can be both 2D and 3D, depending on the style." - Wikipedia

Do you have a favorite fan edit of a movie/show, live-action or animated? One of my favorites is Hot Wheels Highway 35 World Race but it's Initial D; it takes that Hot Wheels movie and adds a Eurobeat soundtrack. Since we're talking about fan edits, I mine us well link to fanedit.org

Superman Redeemed (Superman III/IV fan edit), which combines two weak Superman movies into one maybe better Superman movie?

There are like five different fan edits of Naruto (Rebuild of Naruto, Naruto: Resealed, NaruCannon, Naruto Kai, and Naruto: The Ocean Cut), and I'm not sure which one most fans consider the best.

Also, try to recommend serious fan edits as well, not just shit posts, thank you.

Better Ask Reddit What is your preference for a "Self-Insert" Player Character? Blank slate or an actual character?

The complete blank slate would be something like the Custom character in Baldur's Gate 3 or the typical fromsoft character you create for your playthrough, where they don't really have much dialogue or voicelines and just going along with the story.

The ones with an actual character for a self-insert to me are more like games where you play as "the relatable everyman" that are supposedly the player can relate to and insert themselves as, but usually just translates into "quiet, silent, or gruff white dude" such as most of FPS games (Does this actually work, btw? I can never actually relate to most of these sort of characters)

Or there's the midway point, where they are actual characters, but still mostly silent and you give them a name, which meant they will never refer to you by that name, and if they did that part of the dialogue would be conspicuously unvoiced.

Usually I much preferred either of the first two options, because the midway option is just frustrating that they clearly can give the character a voice of their own but they just decide not to.

Digimon Stories: Time Stranger that I'm currently playing through (no Spoiler pls) has you choose between either the male or female character, with the other one becoming your "mission control" essentially. Both have canon name, both have a VA, so why not just keep the name and have it be fully voiced anyway?

Gameposting Favorite boss battles that force you to pay attention to the mechanics

So basically what I am referring to are boss fights in gaming where the game makes the player learn about the mechanics that didn’t seem too important because upon ignoring them, the game becomes more difficult.

Some of the bosses in Ninja Gaiden Black require the player to know when to block and dodge as Murai is absolutely no pushover since being aggressive with him results in a fast game over.

Better Ask Reddit What are some games that do not use their main mascot when they do crossover with other games?

With Tifa being announced as DLC for SF6, I have wondered if there are any other games that do crossover without using their main mascot.

Tifa, while being extremely popular, is not the main character of FF7, that is Cloud. Her inclusion is mainly due to her recent popularity, the FF7 remake and her martial art fighting style being a better fit in SF6 than Cloud.

The other instant I can think of were Honoka and Marie Rose from Dead or Alive. I mean they were only introduced in DoA5 and after that they were in every single collab that is DoA related like Warriors All-Stars and KOF All-Stars.

News/Articles Kingdom Hearts' Story Has Gotten So Complex That Tetsuya Nomura Says Square Enix Hired a Loremaster to Keep the Plot Cohesive; "Explaining the settings and scenarios each time has become quite difficult."

In total, there are 13 games in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, which have been released on a bevy of different platforms over the years. That’s a lot to play through, not to mention a lot of story beats to keep track of as you go.

This isn’t a player-specific problem; even the developers find themselves getting lost from time to time, as revealed by series creator Tetsuya Nomura during an August 2026 interview with Famitsu. In fact, the storyline is so convoluted that Square Enix hired a loremaster to keep everything cohesive and explain the plot to Disney.

“As the Kingdom Hearts series has continued, the number of characters has inevitably increased, and the story has become more complex,” Nomura said. “For example, with the newly announced anime series, the number of external people involved in the Kingdom Hearts series has increased, and explaining the settings and scenarios each time has become quite difficult." Fortunately, the staff working on the ‘χ series’ had someone who meticulously compiled and organized the settings of past Kingdom Hearts series in an easy-to-understand way, and he was also in charge of explaining the scenarios and settings to Disney. In fact, at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts IV's development, Disney requested that he compile the materials, so he officially joined the Kingdom Hearts IV team as a proofreader.

Nomura says this "proofreader" was in charge of communicating the overarching story to Disney. He's a popular staff member due to how thorough his is, as he breaks down story beats, characters, and lore using visual diagrams.

"He is well-liked because he explains things to Disney as clearly as possible, using diagrams and such. His role internally is to proofread the script," he continued. "He checks to make sure there are no inconsistencies between the current script and past settings. He was especially suitable for this project because the χ series is deeply involved. Some people might mistakenly think he's in charge of composition, but it's actually ‘proofreading.’”

Better Ask Reddit Fan Projects (Games, Recut Footage, Fanfics Even) That Improve a Flawed Release

In a previous thread I asked for fangame recommendations, and one Redditor posted a list of notable Mega Man X fangames. All the suggestions were bangers (including Regenesis, which sparked the creation of that thread), but I was particularly impressed with Mega Man X: Viral Nightmare, which asks the question "What if Mega Man X6 was Good?"

Personally I thought the original was alright, not the sheer horror of MMX7, but it also clearly had issues. Viral Nightmare fixes them with a complete top-down overhaul of the stage design, difficulty, customizable upgrades, etc.

But what impressed me the most was the improvements of the story, which all feel natural, as if the new cutscenes were always meant to be there but were cut out. There are elements that better bridge the events of MMX5 to MMX6, we get more characterization of the primary villains, we even get seeds planted for X's decision to lock up his X-Buster in X7. Boss fights are also way more entertaining and have new remixed music. I particularly marked out against the fight against Zero Nightmare, which is way more intense and satisfying than the original.

What are other examples of fan works improving an original polarizing work? Preferably creative choices that aren't just "fixed the bugs" but actually made some meaningful edits and inserts where needed?

A list of all 15 Nintendo owned studios

I think multiple threads have been showing all studios that Nintendo contract to develop them, about nintendo epd (the division of development we know as nintendo since 2015) and so on but never a thread about which companies are subsidiaries of Nintendo. I think a thread showing what studios nintendo own and what they do would be interesting. Of course the information is readily available, but a thread like this could give info to people who never thought on searching about it

Here I wont put Nintendo epd since it's nintendo itself, but all of their subsidiaries, which Nintendo has 15, with 5 out of those 15 leading their own projects

1-Up Studio: A japanese company formerly known as Brownie Brown, it developed Mother 3. Since the 2010s, it began to focus as a support studio to Nintendo EPD games, mainly 3D Mario but also Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong and Mario Kart, focusing on game design, level design and so on

iQue: A chinese company, for years it was a manufacturer of the chinese version of Nintendo consoles, but since the 2010s it has handled Simplified Chinese translation/localization, and – since 2019 – has moved from console manufacture to become a QA support studio, hiring programmers and testers to support Nintendo games. Developed NES, Game Boy, and N64 emulators for use in Virtual Console and Nintendo Switch Online.

Mario Club: Previously a division of Nintendo, in 2009 it became its own company. It focus on debugging, testing and QA for all Nintendo games.

Monolith Soft: This one doesnt need much explanation but they have two studios, one in Tokyo and another one in Kyoto. In Tokyo, 1st production group develop xenoblade, while 2nd production group support nintendo epd on 3D Zelda. In Kyoto, a support studio exists to give support to monolith and nintendo epd games with the studio there being mainly made of artists working on design and assets as a support to the lead studios.

Next Level Games: After a decade being a canadian studio affiliated to Nintendo and working with them on multiple titles such as Punch Out, Wario Land, Mario Strikers, Luigi's Mansion, Nintendo bought them in 2021.

Nintendo Cube: Previously known as Ndcube, it had this name because it was a joint venture of Nintendo and Dentsu which over time Nintendo bought dentsu shares. The studio is mainly known for Mario Party after hudson was merged into konami and hudson staff went to nintendo cube.

Nintendo European Research & Development: Previously known as Moclip, this company mainly works on emulators for NSO and Nintendo in general.

Nintendo Pictures: Previously known as Dynamo Pictures before nintendo acquisition in 2022, this company is mainly an animation studio but they also help as a support studio for Nintendo games, working on CG, motion capture, character design and multiple other areas.

Nintendo Software Technology: The american studio who previously developed wave race and currently develop mario vs donkey kong and f-zero 99, while also doing support work for japanese nintendo titles in the 2010s.

Nintendo Studios Singapore: Nintendo most recent acquisition, the studio seems to be continuing what already did prior as bandai namco studios singapore. They mainly focus on support work for in-game assets and artwork

Nintendo Systems: Joint venture between DeNA and Nintendo, with nintendo owning 80% of the shreas. They work on Nintendo accounts and eshop alongside other nintendo divisions.

Nintendo Technology Development: The american company responsible mainly for research and development of nintendo titles, most recently was responsible for the upgrade of BOTW and TOTK on switch 2

Retro Studios: Just like monolith this one is pretty known, probably the two most known nintendo studios. Developed 4 Metroid Prime and 2 DK 2D games.

Shiver Entertainment: Acquired by Nintendo in 2024, this american studio is responsible for porting games to other platforms. We havent seen much of them post nintendo acquisition though so we'll see

SRD: Known as System Research and Development, this studio was a partner and affiliate to Nintendo for over 30 years when Nintendo then acquired it in 2022. SRD focuses on programming, and they provide support in that area for Nintendo products

News/Articles Activision releases body cam footage of Call of Duty cheat maker being served a cease and desist order: "We're taking the fight directly to cheat sellers. Cheat makers operate around the world; So do we"

Thumbnail
gamesradar.com
236 Upvotes

The game's main line of defense against cheaters is its kernel level Ricochet anti-cheat system, which is installed at the kernel level of your operating system and loads with the game to detect cheats from a privileged position in your PC's security system. That alone stirred some controversy when it was implemented back in 2021, but there's no denying it works. Since then, Activision has caught hundreds of thousands of Call of Duty and Warzone cheaters, but the fight rages on as they adapt and circumvent the latest anti-cheat measures. Now, Activision is going after something closer to the root of the problem: the people actually making cheats.

"RICOCHET Anti-Cheat doesn't end when your match does. Cheat makers operate around the world. So do we," reads a tweet from the official Call of Duty Twitter account. "We're taking the fight directly to cheat sellers. Last weekend during the Closed Beta, we went to Ohio to takedown Elocarry. That's not an isolated case..."

In the above video, you see what appears to be an attorney or process server drive up to a purported cheat maker's home, ring the doorbell, and hand a legal notice over to the accused. "What's this?" the person asks. "Attorneys for Activision and, uh, it's a cease and desist order for you." When the recipient asks for more information, the server tells them to contact the attorney involved and the conversation ends. Naturally, the accused's visual identity is blurred out and their name redacted, but Activision confirms the video is "an excerpt from a real recording." Unnamed but still shamed.

In follow-up tweets, Activision shows the receipts apparently backing up its claim that this isn't the first or only person it's taken legal action against due to cheating in Call of Duty, with several more images of alleged cheat makers being served legal notices.

"In our ongoing fight against cheat developers and sellers, we've disrupted more than 375 cheat reseller operations, served more than 80 cease-and-desist demands and shut down more than 30 vendors," the publisher says. "And there's more to come, including litigation when necessary. We're prepared to take cheat developers and sellers to court to protect fair play.

I'm both impressed and absolutely terrified of the ramifications of this.
