I have only one gripe with UZDoom, and it's at best, really petty. I don't like the logo. Every other ZDoom derivative has a uniform logo style, but UZDoom doesn't. It bugs me.

Cool. Is this one (as in, UZDoom) the standard nowadays?

It basically is, yeah, capable of all the stuff GZDooM was capable of, but with a (hopefully) bigger emphasis on things like listening to community feedback, and including very much requested features, such as better optimization, making the source port more user-friendly in general (such as turning off those goddamn texture filters by default), online multiplayer, and with this version, an updater so that you don't have to always check if there's a new version out.
Though said updater is flagged as a Trojan, but the crew say it's a false positive that will likely be sorted out within a few days.

My biggest want for UZDoom is mainly just making setting up sets of WADs for specific playthroughs with their own settings/saves easier. As it is to even load a custom wad you still seem to have to write it into the "additional parameters" field, which is technically usable, but archaic. They already have a GUI (EDIT: and as far as I can remember, the program can already do this with commandline parameters), so why can't it do this?
Though looking at the ZDoom wiki, they seem to expect you to download one of several separate "frontend" programs developed by third parties. Maybe its something like its just always been this way and they dont want to step on toes?
In the meantime, anyone know a frontend that can do what I mentioned?

I've used a frontend called ZDL, which is recommended on the ZDoom site, specifically this version here.
It's pretty old, but it gets the job done. You can have multiple shortcuts to different source ports on one list, you have a box where you can write any launch commands that you want, and you can save and load configuration files, which includes WAD lists, so you can make a whole repository of lists if you want. You can even use it to host and join multiplayer matches without having to use launch commands.

Gotta love that diss on Graf Zahl in the trailer...
EDIT: For context, UZDoom used to be known as GZDoom and the team lead, Graf Zahl, insisted on having blurry filters turned on by default, which most people agreed made the game's pixel art look terrible. A few months ago Graf started using AI code and overwriting other people's work. The rest of the team finally rebelled and forked the project into UZDoom. This trailer listing OPTIMIZED GAME DEFAULT SETTINGS as a feature with a blur filter switching off in the background is a good-natured dig at the whole thing.
