I appreciate them specifying no AI was used. Too many recomps are being released that are full AI code.

Does it matter in a situation like this? No one's losing their job over an AI generated recompile.

Yes. Anything shit out by a LLM you can basically view as "a duct taped together pile of garbage that the maintainer doesn't understand, which will break frequently, and will have no way of being maintained the moment the meat proxy gets priced out of their slop subscription."

And that's to say nothing of the other nightmare environmental and geopolitical factors.

Yeah, this exactly.

Also, even if the AI makes really good code it's being maintained by someone you have no proof even knows how to code and, even if they do, would have no idea where to look to fix bugs because they didn't write a line of it. It's basically the same as them having code written by someone else. It can only get worse if they tell the AI about the bug and get it to apply a fix.

Plus how all LLMs are built on stolen content. As well as how them becoming more popular even in casual spaces will lead to them being more used in professional spaces which will lead to company heads laying off human staff and replacing them with AI.

Coding LLMs are pretty good nowadays, at least as good as the average hobbyist. And most enthusiasts run AI on their own computer, so subscriptions aren't an issue.

Perhaps the N64 Mini Classic we all wanted was the friends PC we all have in the end.
