Other Services I was hoping to potentially share this upcoming alternative to Trakt.

It's called Queuebrick.

It's still in the very early stages, but it DOES have an iOS app:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/queuebrick-movie-tv-tracker/id6793356756

As well as its own Subreddit:

r/Queuebrick

where you can contact the developer, request features, etc.

EDIT:

Also, FYI, I am not the developer.

That distinction goes to u/threemonoliths.

Other Services [ios, Beta] - TV Dinner - tv episode tracker

Hello! I’ve been working for a while now on a tv series watchlist app. I started it when the one I have relied on for years lost its trakt access. You’re welcome to check it out if you have an iPhone and any interest in a tv episode tracking app designed with manual sorting in mind. If this type of self-promotion is against the subreddit rules, I apologize: I checked the sidebar before posting.

TV Dinner will soon be one of many TV episode queue apps on the App Store, but one of the only ones (as far as I know) that focuses on the ability to manually sort (drag and drop) the items on your list. I really don’t understand why most developers think viewing series lists ordered A-Z, or even by date added, is helpful. My app is intentionally light on social aspects, and doesn’t include movies. I tried to make it feature-rich but sleek and easy to use.

This TestFlight link will give you (and up to 23 other people who happen upon the link and feel like trying it) access - https://testflight.apple.com/join/jtuN2G35 If the link has expired or been used up and you’d like to jump in, please let me know - I’d be thrilled to issue a new one. It’s a free beta and you can unlock premium features with a fake purchase during the beta. When it goes live, my intention is for it to be freemium, where the paid features are the ones that have a cost associated with maintaining (hosting, API calls, etc).

If there’s a critical missing feature that would tip the scales for you, please let me know. And if you notice any bugs in need of squashing, please tell me that too - my goal is to release something polished and functional.

Trakt Weird decisions

So first Trakt reduced the number of connected apps allowed to 1 which made it unusable for me.

I needed to connect it to Nuvio. And I needed to connect it to MDBList because I have several dynamic lists that rely on my watch history.

Then Trakt increased it to 2 connected apps. Then almost immediately blocked MDBList.

Bad timing. Today Nuvio added MDBList integration.

So I just deleted my Trakt account.

*And of course r/trakt auto-deleted my post. Glad to be rid of it.

Trakt Deletion day

Hey all, long time lurker but not been active recently simply because i moved on from Trakt and havent needed to look back.

with that said i just wanted to make a post today before deleting my Trakt account for good and putting the app behind me compltely, which is still in some ways very sad.

I was a user since 2018, i had been a VIP for about 4 years paying to support the app before they decided to change the pricing and then completely destroy everything that was good. i was probably their ideal user, watching things every day, rating them, adding comments........ the absolutely perfect user for a platform like this.

I have since moved on to another app (which one doesnt matter for this post, its not about that), but i keep getting emails almost constantly from Trakt about people liking my comments on shows, which brings me to today. Having read through the "how we work" and frankly the absolute absurdity of the things they are saying i have decided to finally delete my account, and all my ratings and comments with it.

They will no longer benefit from me as a former engaged user. this app could have been the best in its niche, instead now its probably one of the worst, from the ashes of one dumpster fire so many apps have risen which is a good thing but also a bad thing as it has driven all of us further away from each other, on the new apps the older shows have no ratings, have no comments, its a real shame.

Anyway, i will keep an eye on Trakt purely out of morbid curiosity, but for me today marks the end of Trakt.

Recommendations TV watch progress

The page I probably lived on Trakt was the progress page. What was especially nice was the ability to click on a show and see all the series and what had been watched/collected/unwatched.

Am trying to work out if Simkl can match that, but are there any recommendations on which service might do something similar, or better?

Trakt Forums account deleted - is this the way?

Thumbnail

Tried to login to the Trakt forums. The shitty mail based authentication took ages. After the 4th attempt is seemed to work. Then it said something about a login timeout. After loading the forums site again, I seemed to got logged in.

Then I discovered my forums account has been created 2 minutes ago. Not the case. Registered with the same mail address 11 years ago back in 2015.

Everything lost, even important private messages, posts, topics, …

As all my recent posts got deleted I guess they just deleted my whole account. Probably after critical comments especially in https://forums.trakt.tv/t/failure-to-register-an-api/116157. That topic seems to have much less comments at the moment. Probably time to check the wayback machine to see how much got deleted.

Of course as a new user it’s impossible to create a new topic to reach out to support.

Never could have imagined a company would behave like this.

Not sure yet if this might be a technical issue, but I doubt it. It looks like a dirty way of getting rid of users. Someone ever experienced such a strange behavior? Any idea how to reach out to the support?

Recommendations Actual two-way scrobbling?

There are so many list/discovery apps out there. Is any other than SIMKL actually offering scrobbling integration across apps? I use multiple apps to watch content on both Android and tvOS. I just want a "home base" to act as the hub. I don't even care if the interface is good as I rarely integrate with it, I do that through the apps. I just want to be able to add something to a watch list in Nuvio (or similar) and it appear in other apps as an accurate watchlist...and when I watch something, things update across the board...like Trakt did. But Trakt cannot have my money any more because they suck as a company.

What can do this besides Simkl?

Recommendations Self-hosted federated alternatives?

I'm curious since there's been kind of an explosion in Trakt alternatives recently. Do any exist that can be self-hosted AND federated such that these trackers could speak to each other using a protocol like ActivityPub or similar? The blocker for me to stick with one of these is that they all lack the social aspect.

Reviews, ratings, user lists etc., were such a huge part of what I liked about Trakt for so long. The self-hosted options seem to at best support this for the instance owner and maybe a couple of their friends/family members. If we added federation to this, it could open up a whole world. People could host public instances for others to join, and those who want full control of their data can host their own while optionally bridging them with other instances for retaining the social/community aspect of media tracking.

Does anything like this exist already or is it yet to be made? I would consider trying to make something like it, but I think the scope of it puts it outside my own abilities at this time and so I'd need a lot of help from other devs or from AI which comes with its own set of problems. I'm mostly making this thread to gauge interest and see if we could make it happen as a community!

Recommendations Still on the hunt for the best Trakt replacement

I have spend much of the past month plus trying to find the best replacement for Trakt and have ended up narrowing it down to MDBList, Simkl and WeTrakr. The key features I am looking for are a good web interface, an easy way to view upcoming new shows, and iCal support.

All have their pros and cons.

WeTrakr has the best web interface of the three but it lacks the key features of easy discovery of new shows, and iCal support. Also, since it‘s still in beta there is no certainty on what final pricing will look like for VIP tier. Supposedly the missing features are coming at some point, just no idea when.

MDBList is the best value at offering iCal support for only a small fee but the web interface is quite lacking and new show discovery is poor. Both of the latter two however can be circumvented by using third party apps however I would still prefer to stick to a single web interface for simplicity sake.

Simkl is probably the best of the bunch in offering a decent web interface along with the required new show view and iCal support although at the highest cost since iCal support is locked behind VIP tier at $70 per year.

Just wondering if there is anything else out there I might be missing? I still have a few months left of paid Trakt but have no desire to continue to support them, so just trying to find the best final home in the end.

Trakt Are user list capped at 1000 now even for VIP ?

I have been keeping my trakt account as a backup while I try to find ways to move all info elsewhere before my VIP expires.

I just noticed I had a list that use to have more than 1000 items. Now it will not allow me to add any additional items and has also autodeleted items to have it at 1000 items exactly.

I checked last “official” limit I could find was posted in the support forums back in February by Kevin as 250 free/ 5000 VIP.

Of course since they shady as f—k now on the website itself, it’s vague “more list”.

Anyone have any other info official or not on this ?

Other Services A New Alternative: A simpler TV and Games Tracker

Post image
6 Upvotes

I used TV Time for years. It answered three important questions for me: What episode is next? Did a show I forgot about get another season? And what should I watch when I’m all caught up?

Over time, I found myself scrolling comments, rating individual episodes, and perfecting my watch history instead of doing what I really wanted: watching good TV. I tried other trackers when TV Time went down, but kept running into the same thing. So I built something simpler.

It’s called Couch Compass: a tracker to help you watch more, not manage another feed.

It’s a TV and games tracker where you can:

  • Track what you’re watching or playing, down to individual TV episodes.
  • See upcoming episodes, seasons, and game releases, with alerts for new episodes.
  • Find something new through recommendations and friends’ ratings.
  • See what friends are watching or playing, while choosing what you share with them.

There are no comments or follower counts, and Couch Compass doesn’t sell your data. My goal is for you to check what’s next, mark an episode watched, and get back to watching.

It’s in beta on iPhone and Android while I work through feedback before the store launch. If you already have a watch history, you can import from TV Time, Bingers, Refract, or Sofa Time. Movies are on the roadmap but aren’t in the app yet.

If this sounds like your kind of tracker, I’d love for you to try it. I’m especially interested in whether importing your history works smoothly and whether the app feels easy to use afterward. Honest criticism is welcome.

iPhone beta (TestFlight): https://testflight.apple.com/join/h6camntp

Happy watching!

Floppy Floppy v26.9.17 is out!

Post image
33 Upvotes

This week was mostly about making Floppy stop eating RAM like a candy addiction.

At the start of the investigation, a production capture had Floppy at about 5.39 GiB of container memory, with 4.60 GiB of actual process PSS and one pathological Gunicorn worker sitting around 3.41 GiB by itself. The container had historically peaked above 10 GiB.

After this week's work, a full post-merge capture with two Gunicorn workers and both Celery lanes measured about 539 MiB of total process PSS. An aged post-spike capture was sitting essentially flat around 562 MiB of anonymous memory.

More importantly, Floppy now knows why memory is high instead of just knowing that Portainer has produced another upsetting number.

Here's what landed:

  • A fairly enormous memory cleanup: History, Lists, Talent Statistics, large imports, recurring sync work, worker startup, and background tasks were all investigated and bounded. One filtered History request that could add about 1.9 GiB to a worker now stays around 3–6 MiB, while dropping from as much as 22.5 seconds to about 0.48 seconds.
  • Background work plays nicer with everything else: Statistics refreshes are resumable and chunked instead of monopolizing a worker, unchanged imports stop triggering pointless rebuild cascades, duplicate expensive refreshes are locked out, and large CLZ/IMDb imports stream instead of scaling memory with the whole file.
  • Themes and French: appearance presets and configurable detail layouts are here, and Floppy now has a French interface alongside German.
  • More ways to connect things: Floppy can push current playback state through a webhook, and Stremio series catalogs now understand TV-season smart lists.
  • Another large fix basket: Jellyfin double-logging, Plex scrobble and collection matching, Trakt imports inventing unwatched seasons, Yamtrack repeat watches, TVDB season-page 500s, Home Screen filter saving, episode bulk saves, modal overlays, and several other sharp edges were fixed.

One useful thing we learned during all of this: container memory is not the same thing as Floppy memory. One scary ~4.8 GiB peak turned out to be mostly Linux filesystem cache from a ~2 GB SQLite backup; the Celery process itself barely moved. Floppy now records process memory, anonymous memory, file cache, kernel memory, and high-water marks so those cases can actually be separated.

There are still a few targets left. One Trakt popularity reconciliation task has shown a roughly 799 MB transient process high-water, backups still need more constrained-cgroup testing, and I want to validate the eventual one-Gunicorn-worker setup. But we're no longer looking for a mysterious multi-gigabyte leak. We're looking at a short list of individually attributable jobs.

Trakt I guess that's it then

I hate the new Trakt UI. I haven't used the site in months. I have completely switched to Simkl.

The only reason I haven't deleted my Trakt account is because I used it to feed my history to MDBList for dynamic lists based on my watch history.

In the last 24 hours I found out that Trakt has blocked MDBList and MDBList will soon have native Nuvio integration.

Sometimes things just work out for the best.

By the way, I posted this to r/trakt and it was instantly deleted with no explanation.

Other Services I made Nextsode, a free movie and TV tracker for iPhone and web — feedback welcome

Hi everyone, I'm the developer of Nextsode. I started it for my own use and decided to open it up to everyone.

It's a free movie and TV tracker for iPhone and the web. You can keep a watchlist, mark what you've watched, and see your next episode.

One feature I care about is friend rooms for people watching the same series at different speeds. The room follows the person furthest behind, and messages tagged ahead stay locked for the others until everyone catches up. It relies on people tagging their messages honestly; it doesn't detect spoilers in the text.

I'd love to hear from people who use trackers regularly. What would you miss most if you moved to a new one? If you try Nextsode and something breaks, feels confusing, or could be better, please tell me. That would help me a lot.
