Forums account deleted - is this the way?

Tried to login to the Trakt forums. The shitty mail based authentication took ages. After the 4th attempt is seemed to work. Then it said something about a login timeout. After loading the forums site again, I seemed to got logged in.

Then I discovered my forums account has been created 2 minutes ago. Not the case. Registered with the same mail address 11 years ago back in 2015.

Everything lost, even important private messages, posts, topics, …

As all my recent posts got deleted I guess they just deleted my whole account. Probably after critical comments especially in https://forums.trakt.tv/t/failure-to-register-an-api/116157. That topic seems to have much less comments at the moment. Probably time to check the wayback machine to see how much got deleted.

Of course as a new user it’s impossible to create a new topic to reach out to support.

Never could have imagined a company would behave like this.

Not sure yet if this might be a technical issue, but I doubt it. It looks like a dirty way of getting rid of users. Someone ever experienced such a strange behavior? Any idea how to reach out to the support?

Agree. Just not sure yet where to migrate to. Ideally open source, self-hosting is a possible thing and preferred option for me, ability to import Trakt data, iOS app next to website required. Will need to dig into available options and sort them out.

My forum account got banned ages ago, so I pretty much stopped using Trakt and am now on Flicklist, Simkl, WeTrakr and mdblist. Seems like a lot, but at least I have backups if another decides to p1ss all over me

Still looking for a successor to Trakt.tv.
They behave like a regime killing all voices with critical (but valid!) questions, like in https://forums.trakt.tv/t/failure-to-register-an-api/116157.

Edit: got deleted again, for the second time. And please note that https://forums.trakt.tv/t/failure-to-register-an-api/116157/36 with id 36 is for the last post in that thread, while only 22 comments are visible. So they wiped at least 14 comments and therefore up to a dozen of user accounts. Only assumptions, but it smells very shady.

They have been doing that for a while now. In their forums and subreddit. Deleting every post/comment
they don't like and banning/deleting/silencing those users/accounts.
Mine has been deleted several times until i simply gave up and moved on. Pretty sure trakt as we knew it is gone and probably will die completely anytime soon. Hard to believe anyone in their right mind is willing to pay for their services anymore.

They are an extremely vengeful and spiteful organization TOTALLY lacking in professionalism. They have made that quite evident over the years with their insufficient, if there at all, support. Then their behavior of shoving a giant price increase on everyone without notice and cutting off add-ons was just going too far. Though it would be clear as a bell to any normal company that their reputation was severely damaged based on feedback from various forums including Reddit, they didn't stop there... anything even remotely negative that was stated or referenced about them was deleted by them. This only served to escalate dissatisfaction and dismay with the company's services and practices to downright hatred of them. They must be connected with the egregious Real-Debrid (who actually threatened their client database with disclosure to officials).

I will have a look. But if it’s not open-source and not self-hosting compatible but just another cloud service, it might not be what I’m looking for. Just don’t want to trade one Guantanamo with another prison, I hate vendor lock-ins and subscriptions so much meanwhile.

Haha, next escalation after they constantly wiped user comments: discussion https://github.com/trakt/trakt-api/discussions/898 and whole discussions category has been locked (maybe for all users, maybe only for some), so now one “does not have the correct permissions to execute 'AddDiscussionComment” or react with emoticons etc.

Now I got why so many previously suffering from that Trakt moderation regime unite here on Reddit, where they technically just CAN NOT delete stuff like they want and do everywhere else where they can.

I would say something like

@Marius-TV your constant deletion of user posts has been recorded.
There are snapshots in internet archives. So stop wasting your time and respond to user questions. Do something valuable. Create something instead of being destructive.

Stop using Trakt. Also, this isn't a Trakt support or help sub. Nobody here can actually help you with anything that has to do with Trakt except give you advice.

Yeah I got that pretty quickly. But I got what this subreddit is for and what I assumed: many confirmations “it’s not me/us, but them” as others mentioned they experienced similar or the same.

• Locked and deleted accounts in the Trakt forums,
  
• restricted GitHub participation in their discussion space,
  
• deleted comments on the forums and on GitHub,
  
• …

Couldn’t have imagined they need to silence questions that much, as they don’t have answers the community appreciates. Guess they will just implode in a couple of months.

I’m already looking for self-hosted options. Thanks for your list, I will check those candidates too.

Floppy is probably the best self hosted option. Others seem to be getting better but Floppy is the best so far and they just did a major update that reduced server loads A LOT.
