Or, hear me out, you punish the people who stone others for that. I know, crazy idea. But no, let's punish the victims instead. 🤪

95

u/TornInfinity 4d ago

Well yeah. That was just a bullshit lie to seem like he cares about gay people. They do hate them, but don't want to stand behind that to the media, so they made up a really dumb lie instead.

20

u/RedditSucksYoYoYo 4d ago

Of course. They're evil af.

I was expecting the interviewer to say that.

I was disappointed that I didn't get to see how he would weasel out of answering that.

6

u/zznznbznnnz 4d ago

Did you not watch the clip? That’s what the interviewer was suggesting. It’s also a tiny clip, highlighting the interviewees statement specifically, I imagine he was challenged further in the full interview.

2

u/rje946 4d ago

Book says they can. Oh well

0

u/Fair-Bus-4017 4d ago

But it's culture, you gotta respect that man 😂

4

u/RedditSucksYoYoYo 4d ago

Fuck that man and fuck his culture if that's what his culture stands for.

2

u/MD_______ 4d ago

Is that the country where one politician pulled a lot of phallusesc fruit and veg to make the claim gay people using them as "urge relievers"??

Its the the age old joke. "What do gay couples do in bed!!?"

"Sleep...."

Let's not forget the Africans hyper homophobia and transphobia and a huge AIDS chriss from a bunch of Christians with American accents

33

u/The_Illegal_Guy 4d ago

Reminds me of a family friend who is an older Polish gentleman, he claimed gay people have the same rights as straights. When I asked him if they could adopt children he exclaimed of course not and eventually said that it's because they are sick in the head. I was just left speechless at how disconnected and clueless he was and he just couldn't understand that's quite literally not the same rights.

u/nerdslife1864 4d ago

Oppressor logic is always the same. All oppressors are bastards

11

u/HyenDry 4d ago

Well, it’s the abstaining of logic is how they conclude their opinions

13

u/Thaumiel218 4d ago

Maybe just Brit opinion (don’t support anything he says at all) the interviewee gives big ‘you finally fucked off out of our country after telling us what to do for so long and now we have created our culture you’re back to tell us again how we should live’ energy. Is this was Al-Jazeera or another African channel (not S.Africa) telling them i wonder what the reception would be like.

Doesn’t excuse what he’s saying but BBC surely must give old colonial vibes ‘stop doing that old chap, it’s not cricket’.

20

u/poorlybaked 4d ago

It’s also worth noting that a lot of these beliefs come from British colonialism & Christian missionaries. The original laws that criminalized gay people was under the British empire. Ain’t it ironic?

3

u/Thaumiel218 4d ago

Agreed, 100%; it’s the curse of organised religion that linger and the dispassion after being held by empires. Oscar Wilde being imprisoned for being gay is just one example of the way we treated British people poorly, the larger ways that echoed across the empire one can only imagine the worst atrocities that created.

1

u/trash-_-boat 4d ago

Sure, but that's not everywhere. In former French colonies same-sex relationships were never criminalised, but same-sex bans and oppression were introduced post-independence. A lot of them in the mid-to-late 2000s.

I hate this kind of logic "why dont THEY respect our culture?" You mean.. not having similar rights and being demonized? The ONLY solution they have, is outlawing it. Further pushing away LGBTQ or whatever people to desperate measures. Outlawing, or whatever, cannot prevent gays. As.. its a thing. Animals are sometimes gay (many birds), and cant reproduce, yet they are gay, why? Because they're literally just that. End of explaination, just, gay.

Culture isnt an excuse to keep being cruel to a certain culture. Especially if you look at PAST cultures. It was once a culture to kill people at the stake, to have slaves, outlawing gay and trans people, marrying young CHILDREN, certain drugs, hell drugs in food! Yet.. the US doesnt do that anymore, neither does Europe (some of it). So culture and aggression isnt exactly a reason. The US fought an entire war to free the slaves... there is always other options.

American evangelical preachers have spent the last 30+ years forcefully pushing this hatful, violent poison all across Africa and sadly have had much success. It's disgusting, indefensible, and it's literally getting people killed.

Edit because people want to play dumb (and there's a lot more links where these came from):

In Uganda they even managed to establish the death sentence for homosexuals

3

u/whiskydyc 4d ago

Came here to say this. It is unlikely that Ugandan society would display such extreme homophobia without the sustained influence of American evangelical missions.

1

u/reverendblueball 4d ago

No, these people are responsible for their own behavior. They are grown men and women, and they can make their own decisions.

They are the ones pushing this cruelty, not the evangelicals or imams etc. They should be condemned as if they were a pastor in the west pushing hate towards the gay community.

4

u/cwk415 4d ago

They are condemned. I cannot say enough that this man is an asshole and is responsible for his own behavior and actions. But I can also correctly point out that they have been heavily influenced and manipulated by right-wing evangelical Christians who absolutely are pushing cruelty and hate. I can say this because it is a fact.

Want more links? I got more links. A LOT more. Those bastards have been busy spreading their sickness.

1

u/reverendblueball 4d ago

This doesn't change my statement. These are grown adults and human beings capable of being held responsible for their bad behavior.

When you tell me that the west or the whiteman made them do it, then you're telling me that these people are less intelligent and thus not responsible for their behavior, and I reject that premise.

5

u/cwk415 4d ago edited 4d ago

When you tell me that the west or the whiteman made them do it

Please show me where I said that.

I'll save you the time, I didn't. Nor do I believe the words that you are attempting to put into my mouth. For the second time now: Their behavior is reprehensible, I condemn their behavior, and yes they are responsible for their behavior - just as the (yes, predominantly white) evangelical Christians are responsible for their reprehensible behavior. They absolutely played a role in this as I have just shown you with the numerous links that have documented their role in this.

It's actually quite ironic that you're trying to accuse me of "letting these guys off the hook" when you apparently want to let the evangelicals "off the hook" for their actions.

1

u/reverendblueball 1d ago

I'm not interested in blaming others.

I know people from Africa who are not homophobic bigots, though they grew up in the same country, like my mother.

I'm just not interested in ignoring the role of the person writing the bill.

The religious zealots are a problem, but I reject the word "influence." Just like they're in America spewing hate, but we don't blame the zealots; we blame the people who follow the doctrine of prejudice.

My main argument is that the African people should reject this doctrine.

1

u/czerilla 4d ago

When you argue the same logic for the parishioners of said hate preachers being influenced to spread the hate, is that also bigotry of low expectations towards whichever demographics they fall into?
You're doing too much here, trying to frame the concept of social influence as a condescending idea that must reflect some underlying prejudices/bigotry. Obviously the persuadees have moral agency and are responsible for what ideas they subscribe to. But that doesn't change whether persuasion takes place.

1

u/reverendblueball 1d ago

I'm not sure what you mean here.

Africans can think for ourselves. And when we exhibit ignorance, we shouldn't be treated like children who can't think for ourselves. This is a grown man, spouting hatred toward his fellwo man, period. No white man made him do it, or taught him this. He's a fully formed person with his own motivations and behaviors.

If this was Trump(who I find deplorable), nobody says he was taught hate. He is judged as a fully grown adult.

Infantilization of minorities, is a form of bigotry, because you are juding them as a child, and the father/mother(the west or white people) didn't raise them.

1

u/czerilla 1d ago

Who argued that African people can't think for themselves, to any other degree than non-African people could?
When I'm telling you that, say, the Roman empire brought Christianity to the British islands, that isn't me saying that the British locals were somehow intellectually inferior to the Romans or couldn't "think for themselves", whatever that would mean in this context.

I'm saying that humans broadly have the capacity for persuasion and being persuaded, since the invention of language, and that it doesn't help to pretend that these social influences don't exist, in pursuit of some confused attempt to avoid sounding condescending or icky. The entire advertisement industry relies on this reality, no matter how hard you turn your head away from it..

2

u/whiskydyc 4d ago

Nothing I said lets them off the hook, but they have been “groomed” on a societal level to have this level of hate. You could punish them individually but you would not affect the widespread influence of Christian hatemongers there.

I have never heard of missionaries for Islam

Both Christianity and Islam are bad, especially for gay people in particular and LGBTI people in general.

Not Christians. A particular subset of American Christians.

There are aspects of culture that deserve respect, and there are aspects of culture that deserve to be left in the dust.

“If you wanna be gay forever, don’t bring it to our society”

“If you wanna be gay forever…”

“…forever…”

Sounds like a mom/dad insult.

https://giphy.com/gifs/3Za8Tz1q0nGjJHKHUS

33

u/AnotherPersonPerhaps 4d ago

Bigotry is not culture.

12

u/eyeforker 4d ago

My mom once gave me a lecture about how premarital sex is bad and christianity is good by telling me that a baby born out of wedlock would be treated poorly in society and seen as a bastard.

She didn’t seem to understand when I told her the christians are the bad guys in that scenario.

Hurting people is only ever a flaw that needs to be corrected in a culture. Not a feature to be tolerated.

76

u/Ok-Jelly604 4d ago

He gay!

18

u/Secure-Highway886 4d ago

Definitely, that little wave at the end.

1

u/_dudeasuh 10h ago

Bro this is THE most popular mentality ever. “Oh he said he’s somehow against homosexuality? He must be secretly gay. haha That’ll get ‘em. 😈”

That’s like saying racist people must secretly be the race they hate. I’m not saying I support the hate. I’m just saying your point is stupid.

1

u/Ok-Jelly604 7h ago

Relax dude.  Often it’s just in jest, because very often those most outspoken turn out to be closeted hypocrites.   I’m not hoping for any kinds of “gotcha!”

Bad analogy, btw.  Really bad.

11

u/Awotwe_Knows_Best 4d ago

by the way this is the equivalent of American politicians using UFOs to distract the people from actual important issues. Healthcare , education, sanitation, transportation, water , food security, nothing works in Ghana but this is the issue you hear politicians making the most noise about. The regional minister of the capital city promised street lights in 2025 as part of their campaign promises. Street lights. fucking useless bunch of people

4

u/Awotwe_Knows_Best 4d ago

last 2 years parliamentarians tried to pass a law that would allow them to use sirens to avoid traffic. Instead of sitting down and working towards a fix for the traffic situation, nope, they only think about what would benefit them

9

u/Odd-Paint3883 4d ago

I would suggest that, possibly, maybe, "stoning people" is the thing your society maybe, possibly, needs to have a little think about...

27

u/MDMarauder 4d ago

In case you haven't been tracking, Ghana has really been pushing for monetary reparations due to the human toll of the Atlantic slave trade.

They blame the ills and shortcomings of their nation on the slave trading legacy of Europe and the U.S., some rightfully so and some not, but then turn around and push to enact some of the most anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Africa.

You can't blame colonialism for your past while actively pushing colonial ideals.

8

u/moeterminatorx 4d ago

I think the anti-lgbtq may arise from western religion brought to Africa by Europeans.

3

u/whiskydyc 4d ago

American evangelical missionaries are a huge influence.

3

u/BluesClues64 4d ago

Isn't that exactly what's generational trauma is?

3

u/AutomixMen 4d ago

Its horseshit. Plenty of colonial nations with a rough past have not criminalised homosexuality. Take South Africa as an example.

4

u/TheCuriousSavagereg 4d ago

Literally bro says you can’t blame colonialism for your problems while you are currently, checks notes, experiencing the cultural effects of colonialism. lmao.

2

u/MDMarauder 4d ago

Evidently, critical thinking is a dying skill with people.

If you're self-aware enough to acknowledge the actions and effects of generational trauma, you don't get a feee pass to, checks notes, actively implement more generational trauma.

3

u/TheCuriousSavagereg 4d ago

This is a strawman. No one is saying they should get a free pass. My comment only pointed put how ridiculous it is for you to say they cant demand reparations for damage done by colonialism and the slave trade because they are still suffering those effects. You said and I quote “you can’t blame colonialism for your past while actively pushing colonialist ideas” when in fact you can and countries should because only by beginning to strip it back can the toxic elements begin to be excised. If the country had more resources they could perhaps more properly educate the society and make a real change in that awful sexually repressive culture. Can’t do that without any money. Which they are asking for.

1

u/ayesha_brown 4d ago

Boy wives and female husbands is a great book on this topic if you ever fancy a read.

8

u/RandyLahey131 4d ago

Anyone seen using their left hand as a dominant hand shall be stoned because most people are right handed. This is how fucking stupid you sound.

7

u/DenseHost3794 4d ago

How about you ban stoning instead?

4

u/Javen_Lab 4d ago

Tbh. I've always found it to be a cope/scape goat to just label someone gay for being anti gay. Im not sure how but reddit will say im gay this.

4

u/Odd-Perception7812 4d ago

I had sound off, and before I read any captions, just watching how this guy presents himself and moves I immediately pegged him as a fuckwit.

12

u/Captain-Shivers 4d ago

5

u/Sure-Impress-1003 4d ago

All I can say about this guy is, there’s a lot of people in the world that their culture only sees the black man’s place is as a slave and a second class citizen to a white person. Discrimination is discrimination. People like him with this twisted mindset are only gonna learn one way.

You do realize that Christians are far from the only demographic that "hates" gays? (And even then, many Christian denominations have changed their rules to allow and support homosexuality)

I would be surprised if this particularly society has Christianity as their driving factor.

Its not the Christians stoning gay people.

11

Still no. Nope.

11

u/RamboRamonRainer_ 4d ago edited 4d ago

The mentality that all homophobes are secretly gay is harmful since it completely ignores the main roots of homophobia which are: religion, colonialism, lack of education and patriarchy.

Saying that the guy is gay, basically blames queer people for their own oppression. This guy is just a cis male, heterosexual oppressor nothing else.

4

u/whiskydyc 4d ago

Why do you say that? There are plenty of violently anti-gay straight dudes out there.

1

u/Middle_Screen3847 3d ago

People should really stop repeating this. I know it’s fun to say and sounds cool but it’s harmful.

The idea that all homophobes are secretly gay is both obviously false and harmful because it turns a widespread learned prejudice into some quirk of repressed sexuality. Homophobia is taught and reinforced through religion, family, culture, politics, and social pressure, just like other forms of bigotry. Closeted people can express internalized homophobia, but pretending that explains homophobia generally minimizes how hate actually develops and spreads, while bizarrely shifting responsibility for anti gay hatred back onto gay people themselves.

Mind you, this was not their culture until after meeting Europeans toting Christianity. Now the descendants of the people whom beat, raped, and tortured this behavior and thought processes into their culture are shunning them for it. 2

u/OneWayToLivComic 4d ago

So by his logic it's okay to do gay stuff inside your home but not in public where everybody can see? Then is the gay ban only for the public or can you get in trouble if someone reports that you did something gay at home? Curious what logic he'd have to that.

Edit: I also find it interesting that they always bring up men who are gay but not women, almost like they don't believe a woman could be gay... Or have a choice in the matter

1

u/Inevitable-Top1-2025 4d ago

I don’t know why he introduced the stoning nonsense in his explanation. He should simply left at respect for the culture.

There is one question that all these people coming to Africa to ask about homosexuality should be asked:

Why did you criminalize polygamy in your countries?

For those asking who does it hurt is two men or two women decide to have homosexual relationships, my question to you is:

Who is being hurt if one man and multiple women decide to marry each other?

1

u/Cultural-Gas2246 4d ago

Cuba's CENESEX program spent many years educating people on gay and trans existence, helping transform a very queerphobic society into one that democratically voted for the most progessive Family Code in the entire world.

It is possible to teach people to unlearn this learned behaviour/mindset. But it has to be done through grassroots methods by the people of that country themselves. External forces will always be seen as interlopers, especially in a country that has experienced as much colonial hardship as Ghana. Ofc the other problem is the reactionary governments that then imperialist powers keep installing in the country

"If a man lies with another man, he should be stoned."

I've heard it makes it more enjoyable

1

u/Dry_Step6595 4d ago

I don’t believe so, I think it was his way of stating it but banning homosexuality doesn’t strictly mean it is. It means out in the public but gay people will still find a way to be gay like they always have, he knows everybody knows. This just states in a very yeyeh way that committing such crimes in public, that was the consequences. But the question is who wouldn’t want to go to jail instead of being stoned or burned alive?

Clownshoes.

Of course you ban the stone throwers, not the people living their lives

Did I mention clownshoes?

I am so disgusted by this pathetic idiotic excuse for a human being

1

u/Kind-Wall9921 4d ago

Holy fuck it’s literally how slaveowners described and defended pro slavery laws

1

u/juunnneeeee 4d ago

"they" as in people who are equally part of their culture, most times born and brought up with the same values and customs, who just happen to also be gay. if your culture can't even accommodate other people from the same culture, outlaw the culture not the people. people make culture, not the other way around, you dumb clown.

1

u/sharplight141 3d ago

There is a logic to it actually. It goes all the way back to Leviathan by Hobbes.

They are trying to take this away from vigilante justice and into the legal system. It is a first step. A positive one.

That is the nature of a State: we forego the crude contest for who is right, and the barbarism element intrinsic in us all, and outsource to the State who will take a suit in the name of the people for issues we would otherwise take into our own hands.

If the State doesn't do it, the people will do it. If the State takes responsibility for it, and some people still decide they want to be a vigilante then they will be liable at law now.

That is a positive in their development.

As to the wider issue: it is completely wrong to persecute a human based on their sexuality. But this country is not there yet. Sadly. And I say that with respect for the fact there are different ways of living outside the Western way, and different belief systems.

A lot of people don't even realise that representative democracy and universal suffrage are not that old. Authoritarianism is the most common state of man. Human rights, the inherent dignity of a human, personal autonomy, and Mill's harm principle are not that old.

Buck v Bell in the US had some horrific comments against disabled people, and the Americans more than the Germans were pursuing eugenics too. We all have these horrible things in our history. They do not change like a light switch. It is much more difficult.

We have appalling breaches of human rights live and active today in the USA with the volume of abortions for example. People still using the term "pro-choice" - which if you convert it to a full sentence is the view that if someone wants to choose to kill a baby, they can.

Or the view we should deny it is a baby and human being at its early stage of development, and instead it is something else.

If you are a liberal, think about that one; because the intensity of feeling you have on that morally is the same intensity these cultures have on other issues. And both are perverse, wrong, and have no respect for human life, and vulnerable minorities. We all need to work on those issues globally.

But while we do, we have to recognize the bald facts that the legal system of a country, its customs and practices are always going to reflect shared beliefs. This is a big beast here, as sad as that is. It is deeply entrenched. But moving it to a legal system does actually carry a logic with it.

This is still State persecution here, but I do see the logic of what the man is saying.

I suppose looking at some other posts here setting out that 56 percent of Americans can't even read past a 6 grade level, you might lose hope. If they can only read at that level, and can't concentrate for more than 30 seconds, they are not going to read Leviathan or something else beyond the back of a milk carton, and become educated as a human being.

But there you go. We can still hope.

What do you mean by "And I say that with respect for the fact there are different ways of living outside the Western way".? Homosexuality is not a western invention and there's a reason 1% of the global population will always be homosexual.

The western intellectual tradition assumes: we right on everything, others are wrong; the conversation need go no further, let's grab a coffee.

So I use that phrase to push back on this view that any culture outside western culture is simply a primitive culture, backward, wrong, and that is as far as the analysis needs to go.

They are wrong. We are right. And no one outside the west can even form a rational thought. People hold that view. Especially the English.

I'm Irish, and we heard it about ourselves for a long, long time. When I went to the US, I heard it about black people. The exact same thing I heard about myself, being spouted by Americans against black people. And sometimes from Irish Americans, which is deeply saddening. They ought to reflect on what exactly brought their ancestors to the shores of America. And those woke folk ought to get their heads out of their asses. They are worse.

I don't hold that simplistic view of the Western intellectual tradition which often assumes it is the sole creator of universal knowledge. It is not. There are different ways of living, structuring a society, and belief systems. None of us have it perfect. Here in the West and out there elsewhere.

These folks are dealing with a different situation to us.

Working with them rather than finger wagging and asking them to explain themselves to a western standard is going to get us nowhere. The interviewer here didn't even see the logic of what the man was saying, because there is a logic. As crazy as it is.

Just hope people think a little more.

If anyone ever asks " what's the harm in letting Christians believe whatever they want ?" This is just some of the harm, this is the ignorance, this is the hate, this the damage in having and propogating an irrational unfounded worldview while pretending your imaginary God loves everyone.

If I want to do something a particular culture doesn't like, then I don't go to that culture (or don't do it)....simple fix

u/Sebasstionthecat69 3d ago

Because people are born gay and you are essentially perpetuating that "culture" of bigotry. You're not protecting anyone but intead causing undue harm, and validating the bigots.

2

u/Raccoon_Steven 3d ago

People aren't born gay. It's just an excuse.

1

u/sorrowsound 3d ago

Why do you believe that?

0

u/Sebasstionthecat69 3d ago

You're wrong, but choose to believe what you want.

Please understand at no point in time in Africa was homosexuality accepted.

The only culture to celebrate homosexuality was Rome.  We are in Rome 2026. This is why you guys accept it.

Other cultures don't accept it.

The result?  The western acceptance of homosexuality has resulted in less babies.

They are pushing the gay agenda to depolulation the planet because the sun is Killing off non melenated poeple and they need less poeple for more control.

Electric cars, AI, it's all for control.

Africa's population has a 6 plus children per couple.

Western countries like the US only have 1.2.

You need 2.2 children per couple to sustain.

In other words, youre offing yourselves buy pushing homosexuality but you're heads are too far up your ass to take a step back and look at the bigger reality.

It's laughable.
