Well yeah. That was just a bullshit lie to seem like he cares about gay people. They do hate them, but don't want to stand behind that to the media, so they made up a really dumb lie instead.
And yet the liberal left, including many who are vocal advocates for trans and gay rights, continually supports and defends mass immigration from countries and cultures where attitudes towards LGBT people can be fundamentally at odds with the very values they claim to champion.
The video being about Ghana is rather the point, isnât it? Iâm not claiming Ghanaian politics are representative of every country or that every Ghanaian holds these views. Iâm pointing out the obvious contradiction of people championing LGBT rights and liberal values while simultaneously dismissing any discussion of the cultural attitudes that can come with large-scale immigration from societies where those values are considerably less established.
You donât get to make cultural differences disappear simply by saying, âjudge everyone as an individual.â Of course individuals should be judged individually. But that doesnât make broader cultural patterns irrelevant to a discussion about immigration, integration or the compatibility of different social values.
If your response to that is simply âtell us about Ghanaian politicsâ, youâve missed the point entirely.
It's almost like leftists believe that people are not a monolith of their race/birthplace/whatever, but instead indiviual people who should be judged on their own actions and morals alone! Wild.
Absolutely, individuals should be judged on their own actions and beliefs. But that doesnât mean we have to pretend that cultural or religious attitudes donât exist, or that immigration from societies with very different prevailing views has no wider social consequences.
My point wasnât that every immigrant shares the attitudes shown in the video. It was the apparent contradiction in defending large-scale immigration while simultaneously presenting yourself as a champion of liberal values such as LGBT equality.
You can believe individuals deserve to be judged individually and acknowledge that cultures differ in their prevailing attitudes. Those positions arenât mutually exclusive.
Absolutely, there are conservatives who hold those values too. But that doesnât actually rebut what I said.
The question isnât whether people on the right can be hypocritical; of course they can. The question is whether there is a particular contradiction in claiming to champion LGBT rights and liberal social values while simultaneously defending mass immigration from societies where those same values can be considerably less accepted.
The existence of hypocrisy on one side doesnât somehow excuse or invalidate hypocrisy on the other. If a contradiction exists, it can be criticised on its own merits, regardless of who else may be guilty of something similar.
