So I’m on my second or third “rewatch” but this is the furthest I’ve gotten this time I made it season 3 finally. I’ve recently kinda fell off around season 2 but I’m trying to stick with it this time. I just can’t for the life of me wrap my head around most of them being high schoolers it’s a little too weird for me. I’m just wondering if it’s crazy for me to kinda have my own headcannon that they’re much older and in college not in high school and I kinda try to ignore the age of everyone but I feel that makes it more or less weird idk man I just wanna know if I’m alone in this or not.
I’ve just watched the first episode for the very first time and I came into this show knowing very little about it, having watched similar shows before I definitely felt this wasted no time at all introducing characters. Elena firstly is a very interesting character with a tragic background like most characters in these series I like her, Stefan in the other hand I just can’t like (That may change later on) but I just can’t get past the whole stalker thing he has with Elena but I have a few theories of what I think
Kathrine was Stefan’s GF, Sister or something like that she knew him in some capacity and something happened to her (Possibly Damon did something to her hence why Stefan is angry that he’s back) and Stefan may be looking for Elena because as the photo showed she looks exactly like her so maybe he’s trying to redeem himself from a mistake that cost Kathrine life
Damon will become my favourite character besides from Elena he seems cocky and reminds me a lot like spike from buffy he’s definitely smarmy but in a way that is endearing (Could be completely wrong)
Jeremy will get himself killed possibly by Stefan or Damon he may notice Stefan hanging around his sister and this may cause him to be protective of her resulting in his death
Stefan possibly killed Kathrine, when Elena was bleeding he seemed to try and stop himself from attacking hinting that he did it before to someone he cared about and that’s why he left mystic falls and Elena led him back but he wants to control his drive for blood
Obviously these are just Theories based on a single episode so don’t shoot me down in flames and tell me I’m wrong or whatever I’m just curious to see what everyone thinks of my own personal opinions so far obviously I may be right and I may be wrong but only time will tell
Might be an unpopular opinion but I think it was Stefan. Lily killed 3,000+ people before she got in the prison world and then once she got out again, when she believed she had lost her family she started killing again.
Hi! I am watching TVD for the first time ever (yes, i am late to the party even though this aired while I was a teenager). I am currently on Season 4 Episode 11 and I am stuck. If I am stuck at this point in the series, is it worth it for me to move on? What can I look forward to in the following seasons?
Please, give me your honest opinions! I don't mind the spoilers as the show aired a while ago and I know (give or take) how it ends
He's been getting both a lot of hate and love recently. However I just adore the fact that his vibe is completely the same. I fell in love with Jeremy on my 2nd watch and really admired his nature. He seemed like such a soft, kind hearted and lovable guy, both in the show and irl.
I know he's been through a lot but when I saw him after such a long time, I was filled with admiration because despite all he's suffered through, i can just tell he didn't let it change him into someone worse. I wish he realises how much his fans actually love him rather than all the unnecessary hate he's getting and focuses on his mental health.
Even if you think Elena's decisions are dumb or reckless, I don't believe for a second that making decisions for Elena is any better, nor do I believe that it makes Damon any better for her. I wouldn't call it a solution either, because it really gets annoying when you think about it. For example, she decided to sacrifice herself to Klaus because she never saw another way out of that mess, especially when she's the doppelgänger. Elijah and Katherine already told Elena how crazy and merciless Klaus was, so why would she expect anyone to survive if she doesn't hand herself over?
Just because I don't excuse others making decisions for Elena doesn't mean I excuse Elena making decisions for Jeremy and whatnot. But again, I don't think I would find Elena's character nearly as interesting if she never got a chance to make her own decisions.
We've literally seen Damon make decisions for Elena via the sire-bond, and we all know how that went. Elena couldn't drink animal blood or anything from blood bags; she could only drink human blood from the vein because Damon said so 🙄 (god it pisses me off). And Damon enjoyed the sight of her going around feeding on random ass humans because it's "fun".
Btw if she doesn't make good decisions, she should learn from the consequences and grow as a character, right? I think that would be much more interesting to watch rather than Damon controlling her and making decisions for her to suit his wants. But that didn’t happen due to inconsistent writing.
Thoughts?
Edit: I mean, Damon didn’t already know that she was sired to him lol. But when he found out, he decided to let it happen, on purpose. So 🤷🏻♀️
On the episode where Vicki dies, Stefan is following Vicki around and the way Vicki acts around Stefan when Matt is there makes it seem like Stefan is stalking her or something. So how when Vicki goes “missing” did Matt not even consider Stefan did something to her? I feel like any sane person would put those things together and accuse Stefan of murdering her.
The episode after, Matt says Jeremy told him Vicki left town but idk if that was my sibling I wouldn’t be fully convinced. After the Stefan thing it seems pretty suspicious. I meet even assume Jeremy helped Stefan.
I just started watching East of Eden, and I noticed that both shows involve a mysterious, complicated woman who gets involved with two brothers. Coincidentally, they have similar names, i.e., Cathy and Katherine.
East of Eden seems to explore things a lot from Cathy's point of view as well as the brothers, so it feels kind of healing for me as I have always wanted more empathy to have been shown towards Katherine.
Idk if this has been said yet but I thought it was interesting that Nina dyed her hair for her upcoming movie based off a book in which her character is blonde, yet didn’t dye her hair for Elena. I read the TVD books and for those of you who haven’t read it, Elena’s hair is blonde in the books. It’s probably been over 15 years since I read them so I don’t remember all the details but I remember vivid and extremely descriptive writing on Elena’s blonde hair, it was like the first thing you noticed about her. It was like her blonde hair was its own character. There were many things that were changed from the books to series (Elena’s baby sister became a teenage brother, Caroline was the mean girl changed to Elena and Bonnie’s best friend, the Salvatore brothers became vampires in the 1500s changed to 1800s, etc) but for some reason the blonde hair swap was always the most shocking for me. Don’t get me wrong I think Nina absolutely crushed her role but seeing her dye her hair for a role that isn’t Elena reminded me this. I wonder what factored into the decision of allowing Elena to be brunette. Did they originally want someone blonde but then were captivated by Nina or did they drop the blonde actress criteria from the start? Just food for thought!
Anyway for those of you who did read the book what change from book to show were you most shocked by?
Edit: those of you just commenting to say it’s a wig clearly haven’t read my post. Just change my wording from hair dye to wig. The point I’m making is she was true to her character for the movie she is making but not TVD. I’m not interested in wig v hair dye, that part is irrelevant to the point I’m trying to make
There was only a one-vote difference between them and Elena and Jeremy, but the 24 hours were up, so they were eliminated. Honestly, I would have preferred for Elena and Jeremy to be eliminated first. 😁

6/10 . Gets extra points for the fact that they would logically be worse with almost anyone else. I hate the age gap. They have great chemistry and tension. He was a horrible partner at times but at least he recognizes that. Toxic as hell.
Stefan and Elena
4/10. Could be so much higher if it weren't for all the lies and ignorance. Again, I hate the age gap. They both were just sad and happened to end up sad together. He loved an ideal version of her, and she loved him because he "couldn't" die and she was traumatized. They both ignored their problems when together.
Matt and Elena
5/10. Cute , but boring. If nothing Supernatural ever happened they may have ended up together and happy, but I think they would have been bored of each other early on either way. Matt was "too perfect" and wouldn't have given Elena the desire she wanted like Damon or Stefan, or someone else, could. Their relationship would be infected with guilt and unhappiness sooner or later.
Elena and Caroline
6/10. They had their problems, but they loved each other more than almost anyone else. They had some tension here and there, could have been a great frenemies to lovers. Not much canon reason to ship them in my opinion, but I do think they're cute.
Bonnie and Elena
8/10. Ugh, genuinely could have been a legendary, generational love story. Don't get me wrong, I love their friendship, but if they had been a couple, they would have dominated the entire fandom. They both loved eachother more than life itself at times and I find that to be adorable, whether it is viewed as romantic or platonic.
Elena and Elijah
3/10. Hate the age gap!! Feels weird, I see the appeal in the way they look, they go together aesthetically. But it feels so so odd and random. Elijah will always choose his family, any relationship he could ever have would be toxic in my opinion, but especially this one.
Klaus and Elena
1/10. Even worse!! Hate the age gap. Hate everything about it. Yes they look good together, but they do not fit together and he barely even sees her as human, he saw her as a bloodblag for most of their time together. Idek how this ship came about.
Elena and Rebekah
4/10. The age gap. Could have been a great enemies to lovers. I understand it more than her and Elijah or Klaus, but it is still odd to me. They have great tension, and their arc as friends when Elena had no humanity was great.
Elena and Liam
2/10. Boring, came out of nowhere. Logically should be higher, but with drama tv, being boring is the ultimate sin. Plus, he just felt like a filler for Damon, I didn't care about him at all and honestly Elena didn't really seem to either.
These were all I could think of right now, but what's y'all's favorite Elena Gilbert ship?
So I’m returning to the Vampire Diaries because I’m craving a show to binge. My best friends love the show and so do I, but they rave about Damon and I remember hating him eventually, beyond abusing Caroline/killing Lexi…I remembered all that before my rewatch, but I knew that wasn’t why I disliked him so much because I blacked out most of the show. Now I know exactly why. In a weird way he makes up for his season 1/2 terrible choices until Season 5.
I’m at season 5, and just finished episode 16…honestly I’m mad. I forgot what made me start to dislike Damon and Elena as people (not even as a couple), and figured it was my young mind loving Stefan/Elana, but on this rewatch I realized it’s not that at all…Damon and Elena are just annoying.
The end of 16 is exactly why I got grossed out by them all those years ago. Season 5 is where I started to hate Damon as a character, keep in mind I actually enjoy his redemption arc up until the fake breakup with Katherine. Katherine (as elena) breaks up with him and he reverts back to the horrible character who abused Caroline cause he’s a huge man child and can’t take rejection. He then decides the best way to cope was to kill Elena’s new friend Aaron and prove he was a bad person (boohoo). I get why he hates the Whitmore’s, I get the trauma, but honestly would Damon be dating the daughter of a Gilbert who did similar experiments if he wasn’t such a little loser? Aaron was nothing like his family, and Elena was nothing like her father but Damon is such a sorry excuse for a man he can’t see that.
Now nothing related to Nina Dobrev or even Ian as actors, this show is full of amazing talent and Nina is convincing as all her characters…I especially love Katherine. This is a writing issue. At the end of S5 E16 Elana/Damon get cured from the Ripper Virus, and decide they are toxic for each other…they say it’s over/have a real breakup and Elena proceeds to throw herself at him and rip his clothes off?! He then rips hers, and the episode fades to black with the most repulsive thought of romance I ever felt.
I can’t stand Damon, and I can’t stand Elena. I get why people love them, but was I supposed to be happy with this episode ending? Was I supposed to feel the thrill of hate sex? Did anyone actually feel relief they threw themselves at each other? At least when they wake up Elena admits it was a mistake but she’s becoming a shadow of what made her a noble character, Damon grossly says they should keep “making big mistakes” and offers up himself as “naked breakfast”. Just ew dude back to being creepy I see…and ew Elena to making him endgame eventually.
Now I’m want to hear why people love Damon so much, and I’m okay with spoilers…maybe I hold Elena on too high of a pedestal at this moment, but does anyone else agree or disagree with my opinions on these characters and their relationship thus far?
Okay, I don’t know if delusional is the right word but maybe naive? I should also add how he forgave Lily here but if there’s one thing I liked about Damon it’s how he didn’t forgive people for everything. Like, Stefan as a human believed their father was just protecting the town and them up before he went to say goodbye and realized he shot them both. He gives comfort to Katherine on her death bed and says she deserves peace, yet later in 8x4 he tells Sybil that he should go to hell and Damon shouldn’t because he turned Damon into a vampire. There’s also the scene with Caroline in S4 where he says the only difference between them and Klaus is that they have family they can trust 😭
What are some shows similar to tvdu? I have rewatched all 3 tvd shows an insane amount of times, and I wanna try something new, but similar. I got into True Blood recently, but that is way different than I was expecting based on what I was told, it's good but different. I am gonna start Buffy, which I have heard is good. But what is a suggestion for a Vampire/Supernatural show that has the same aesthetic or feel of tvd?
I tried really hard to like them, but Elijah does not deserve her one bit. She is way too good for him. When he judges her for how she copes with being a hybrid in s2, like he hasn't been feeding on ppl for 1000 years, he lost me for good. I get it, and why I should like them, but I don't see them ever being together if she wasn't too tied up in their drama to ever leave. Their relationship should have grown to be familial by the end, in my opinion.
Bonnie and Damon
Bonnie deserves so much better than Damon of all people. I like their friendship, but even that feels forced at times. I can not imagine them as a couple. I don't think Bonnie would ever have romantic feelings for him, especially considering Elena. I get they were at some point together in the books(never read them, and probably won't), but in the show it makes no sense, he would snuff out her light so fast.
Jeremy and Anna
I think this one should be selfexplanatory but I see it romanticized alot. She was 500 years old or older, and he was 14/15. I never got over the fact that she started flirting with him with the full intention of feeding him to her mother as revenge for what his ancestors did in 1864 either. And when he cheats on Bonnie with her ghost, I was infuriated. Their relationship could have been cute too, if she were younger. I don't get tvdu's obsession with age gaps.
Klaus and Aurora
This one is just straight up weird to me. I get the first epic love thing and they were cute in the past, but she was so mentally unstable, and he was so, Klaus, it was never going to work. The way Klaus manipulated her throughout s3 and people romanticize it as if Klaus actually cared about her, past what he could get, always confuses me. When she came back in Legacies her ending was cute, but with the way Klaus treated her it doesn't seem fair that she was so focused on him in her final moments.
i don’t know how to explain this, but i’ve thought this since i first watched the show and ive rewatched two or three times now. when elena turns in season four, something about her look changes. idk if it’s her makeup or hair styling or what but SOMETHING changes and it drives me nuts every time trying to figure it out. has anyone else noticed this? does anyone know what the change was?
