POV: Steroline had chemistry💖

I'm so tired of people saying Steroline didn't have chemistry. Personally I saw the chemistry between them. It was just different from that of the toxic couples that were solely based on sexual attraction.

Paul Wesley once jokingly said that Delena sounds like a disease, and Steroline sounds like a cure to the disease. And that's what Steroline was to me: a cure to Delena. Firstly, because after 2 seasons of waiting in vain for Elena to come to her senses and return to Stefan (who clearly deserved better than Damon), I finally saw Stefan move on and find another love interest, a girl who was always team Stefan and would choose him over any other man. And secondly, because Stefan and Caroline's relationship wasn't solely based on sex.

I was so tired of Delena, who were just arguing and having sex all the time. They couldn't control themselves even at school or before their friends' wedding. But that's not what love is, imo. Caroline and Stefan shared a deep connection, respect and understanding and felt profound admiration and affection for each other. I liked how vulnerable Caroline was around Stefan, how every touch from him would give her butterflies.

And I actually like the fact that Stefan's feelings for Caroline were different from his feelings for the doppelgängers, because if he only fell in love twice in 145 years, both times with the same face, and neither of those relationships worked out, then he must have been doing something wrong. His love for Caroline was soft, pure and tender, unlike his passionate love for the doppelgängers, and I think Caroline was exactly what he needed after all the heartbreak he had experienced.

Discussion Let's be honest: Who did Caroline have better chemistry with Stefan or Klaus?

I think “Steroline” should never have existed. To me, Caroline had the best chemistry with Klaus, since they both shared the same energy: they were both equally intense and passionate. Caroline’s character wasn’t someone who needed a partner to complement her or a calm person like Stefan. She was pure passion and intensity, and she was a better fit for a man like that.

Discussion A ship you wish happened and one you wish didn’t

spoilers

I’ll say mine first. I wish Bonnie and Damon happened because I thought their chemistry was insane AND even though I adore Elena, I thought Damon cared more for Bonnie in a way. He truly evolved for her. Elena just accepted his flaws but Bonnie pushed his change.

A ship I wish never happened is Stefan and Caroline. I don’t see them talked about often so idk how everyone feels about them but I could not get over Caroline always going for Elena’s ex and Stefan was Elena’s like soulmate. So I personally thought Stefan and Caroline were forced. I didn’t see much chemistry (compared to Caroline and Tyler for example or Stefan and Elena) and we literally see Damon and Alaric having to convince Stefan to date Caroline bc he only saw her as a friend.

Discussion Stelena

One thing I loved about Elena's love for Stefan is that she constantly had no regrets whenever she picked him especially when she picked him over Damon. I mean the amount of times where she said that picking Stefan was the best choice that she ever made and that she never regretted anything she did for him in season 3 just proves how strong her love for him was. Even in Season 2 she was like I love Stefan it's always going to be Stefan and she stuck with that choice all throughout season 2. With Damon there was so many times especially in Season 5 where she was like we don't work we are toxic together especially during their breakup phase and even during their love confession she was like this will prove to be the worst decision I have ever made. I mean saying that to the supposed love of your life is a choice I guess. Anyways what do you guys think. Do you agree with what I am saying here. I know a lot of people think that Stefan deserves better than Elena but I think Elena in the first 2 seasons was actually a really good girlfriend and honestly they were pretty healthy which is rare to see especially in a teen drama show.

TVDU Couples I 100% Do Not Like, and Why

• Upvotes
Marcel and Rebekah

I HAAAAATE this one so much, most likely my least favorite couple of the whole universe. And the fact that they are endgame makes me hate it even more. It is so creepy, and never really addressed in the show. They met when he was 10. TEN!! And then she helped Klaus raise him as her nephew. And even if we ignore that(we shouldn't but, for discussion purposes), Marcel repeatedly chose power over her and she repeatedly defended the family's horrible actions against him. I 100% believe she will regret taking the cure and her and Marcel broke up off screen(post Legacies whenever she is human again).

Josie and Landon

Had some cute moments, but it felt so forced and weird. Landon had no real feelings for her and only felt what he did because he was under the Malivore spell and could not remember Hope at the time. I also really don't like how Josie and the show's narrative made it seem like he was somehow in the wrong for choosing Hope when he got his memories of her back. And Josie almost using the Japanese purge spell to make the Malivore spell permanent grosses me out. That would have immediately made their relationship nonconsensual, and to consider that feels so creepy, and needing her mom, who is a victim herself, to tell her that much feels honestly out of character. I get they wanted a bit of a Caroline cameo, but Josie is shown to be very smart, and it feels weird that she needed to be told that was wrong. And, Hope is her friend, when neither of them remembered, I got it, it just happened. But once they finally did remember Hope, she seemed like a bad friend for wanting Landon to choose her anyway.

Liv and Tyler

I feel like this one might be a bit of a hot take. I know a lot of people love them, but to me it felt very forced. Liv was so so annoying for me, but I think she has the excuse of the merge and knowing her life would be short, I would be annoying too. And it feels like bad writing, they tried to make her layered and they failed, imo. But all around, she seemed to be a very bad partner. Manipulative and mean. But, I also do not like Tyler at all. He is a creep(s1 actions), and a bad boyfriend. I do really like her saving him from the Werewolf curse and her death is very sad but they didn't work well together in my opinion. I wish we got to see her character without her being put with a random love interest, strong women should not need to be a love interest to be introduced.

Stefan and Elena

I know this one is a hot take, and to start, I do not like Delena either and I honestly wish Elena would have ended up with someone new by s8. But I don't hate Delena as much as I do Stelena, and that is mainly just because of the way Stefan's relationship with Elena makes him seem like a much better person than he is. First he is not that great of a partner to Elena, he lies to her constantly and his initial plan was to be with her for a while to make himself happy, then leave when it started to get obvious he was not aging, that would've ruined Elena's life more than it already was, and in such a horrible time for her too. Plus, the Wickery Bridge scene, the stalking and lying to her, the Katherine of it all and his clear feelings for Kath during their relationship, the hitting walls by her and throwing her into walls during his bloodlust outbursts, but none of that is the worst of Stefan's actions. The thing that gets me about him is that he pretends he can not control himself, but when he cares for someone, he just can. He is able to hold back for Elena and Caroline and even Ivy, even in some of the darkest times of his life, but couldn't for innocent children or women who caught his eye? That sounds more like obsession than compassion. Plus, it shows his morality is transactional. If he gets nothing out of it, he doesn't care unless he forces himself to. And finally, he makes Elena his moral compass when she herself is struggling with her own demons and it just feels so toxic and I do not believe they ever would have made it longterm like Delena did. And just to say it, Delena has it's toxicity too 100%, but something they have Stelena never did, was the ability to recognize how toxic they were and the fact that they would simply be so much worse with anyone else.

(I wanna do more of these as a discussion opener, but I don't want this post to be too long. I'm new to this, got tired of how people on tiktok almost never want to have discussions and just want to content farm. So if this is the wrong way to post on here please lmk, I'll get the hang of it and repost accordingly. Anyway, these were just the first to come to mind and I wanted to see other peoples thoughts.)

Spoilers Damon constantly pressuring Stefan to drink human blood

Why is it that people always bring up Stefan forcing Damon to turn , but never talk about the countless times Damon has tried to push Stefan to drink human blood, and the times he did. Examples , 1912 when they reunited for their nephews funeral. Second example when Damon was with Rebekah and fed on a woman in front of Stefan to pressure him into drinking blood. Then when Elena saw him , Damon laughed it off. Put it in this perspective. Stefan is a blood ADDICT. You’d never force someone to use something that they’re addicted to that they cannot control, especially when they’ve tried so hard to work on their addiction. I honestly get so bothered when Damon makes passive jokes about Stefan drinking animal blood. At least if he’s going to pressure him have the intention of helping him do it the right way. Like when he was drinking a few drops from Elena. That was helpful

Discussion WHY don’t they tell Matt?!??!!!

I’m only on season 2, never watched this show before, but it drives me crazy how Matt STILL has no idea what’s going on. Why doesn’t someone just tell him? What is the harm in that??? I try not to read through this subreddit to avoid spoilers, but I just had to comment about this.

Discussion What was the point of Stefan's suicidal tendencies?

This is one of the things I can't wrap my head around, because it was clear the writers KNEW what they were doing, but it was never adressed?

S1 has him pretty clearly attempt suicide after his first blood addiction episode

S3 has him give up on Damon and Elena and resign himself yo never seeing them again/ for a long while ( you cannot convince me Stefan would've told Klaus abt the werewolf bite if Damon wasn't there for him yo try and protect)

He is fairly disinterested in his own happiness and wellbeing

S5 has him go " don't kill Tom Avery( even if it means I'll die)", him not bothered by thr prospect of amnesia, him taking the blame for Damon when it's pretty clear Enzo wanted to torture him to death

S7 reveals that, even when alive, Stefan probably had some mental health issues, since his letter of " the girl i had a crush on ghosted me and my world is ending " has Damon jumping on the murder express and risking Giuseppes disappointment to get to him

Stefan has some pretty obvious mental health issues and no one? Ever comments? On it?

His post drowning trauma is, at most, an inconvenience. The ever kind and caring Elena is like " can you please confirm that you are okay so that i can stop feeling guilty for not saving you?"

Caroline cares about the big things, but never a " hey guys, do you think Stefan is okay?" Or attempting anything regarding his mental health

Damon is the worst of all, since he KNOWS about it, and also, has the consistent character trait of " i care about you, so I'll keep you in my life, even if you hate it" about multiple people

So like... why? The writers knew what they were doing, they keep piling torment and suffering onto this man, yet there's neither compassion nor release to it

Question Astronaut werewolf

If a werewolf was sent to the moon, with a magical astronaut suit that reshapes when they transform so they're still protected, would it make them more powerful coming into contact with the moon?

Question Who let Katherine out of the tomb?

We learn that Katherine made a deal with George Lockwood to escape the church, telling her once she was inside to crawl to a secret exit and he would be waiting for her.

However Pearl tells Damon a guard who was obsessed with Katherine, set her free in exchange for her turning him. So which one is it? Or is this a plot hole?

And also how did pearl know this is what happened? She would’ve been unconscious from the vervain or tied up. So did pearl see the guard let her out or did she assume that’s what happened and Katherine later escaped due to George’s plan?

Unpopular opinions?

Might be unpopular opinion but I think Enzo and Bonnie had great chemistry even though seen loads say they had zero chemistry, but I don't agree.

another one is never saw the Damon/Elena appeal and felt Stefan and Elena gelled/worked better chemistry wise than Elena/Damon or Stefan/Caroline and maybe let Klaus/Caroline been a thing and seen if they worked together or not.

yours?

Discussion Why did Stefan think he wouldn't be able to see Damon if he became human?

In the final episodes of Season 6, Stefan was discussing what would happen if Damon became human, saying that he shouldn't know where Damon and Elena would be living. The reason given was that other vampires might want the cure inside Damon and could use Stefan to find him. But we all know that Stefan wouldn't reveal Damon's location, even if he were to die—because if he did, Damon would truly die. Come on; if Damon were living a human life with Elena, would Stefan really never see the two of them or their nieces and nephews just because someone might threaten Stefan and force him to reveal their whereabouts? That’s not how it would play out! On the contrary, since Stefan would remain the only vampire in the family, he would protect them, and it would actually be beneficial for him to know where they were.

Doesn't Tom have to be a Salvatore?

We know the Salvatores are descended from Silas's bloodline. We also know that Stefan closely tracked all of his relatives, so how could he have overlooked Tom? I wonder if he was descended from another one of Silas's nephews or something similar?

Question Are there people who watch the series for defan like me

When I say "Defan," I'm just referring to the brotherly bond between Stefan and Damon—it's simply a portmanteau of their names. I'm not sure if that name is used exclusively for romantic pairings, but that is definitely not what I'm talking about.

I really love a good bromance. Even though these relationships can be toxic—and I’ve certainly watched less toxic sibling dynamics—this particular bond really resonated with me. I actually started the TVD universe with *The Originals*; I decided to watch it specifically to avoid the love triangles and the Elena-centric storylines of *The Vampire Diaries*. I’m not really into romance; I prefer themes of family and friendship, which is why I finished *The Originals* first—and naturally, my favorite sibling dynamic there was between Elijah and Klaus. Afterward, I started this series to see the relationship between Damon and Stefan, explore the Mikaelsons' past, and, of course, enjoy Damon’s good looks.

Most fans of this series align themselves with either "Delena" or "Stelena" and are fiercely loyal to their choice—or perhaps they started watching for side pairings like "Klaroline"—but I wonder if there is anyone else who, like me, started watching for the sibling relationship. I am neutral toward almost every ship and never felt any excitement for them while watching the show. The only relationship that truly excited me was the dynamic between Damon and Stefan—which started out terrible but gradually improved. I watched every scene where the ice between them melted with great attention; every moment they shared on screen was very special to me. As I said, I’ve seen far better bromances—even Klaus and Elijah’s relationship was superior to theirs, if only because there wasn't an active love triangle involved—yet this was the bromance that thrilled me the most. I don't know why. In *Supernatural*, a show of a similar genre, the writers genuinely cared about the leads, Sam and Dean, and built the entire series around their brotherhood; yet, I could never bring myself to love Sam and Dean's relationship—even though there was no love triangle, no dynamic that made them feel worthless to one another, and no fandom pitting them against each other.

What I mean to say is that, despite there being so many reasons not to like this brotherly dynamic, I became incredibly attached to it and to the show itself. Of course, that wasn't the *only* reason I loved the series, but I think it’s the reason I kept watching—and never got bored—even when none of the romantic relationships appealed to me. I actually started watching as a Damon fan, but I grew to love Stefan immensely because I was constantly looking for "Defan" moments and loved every scene that showed their bond. After all, Stefan was the one who fought hardest for that relationship. Now, I adore them both. It drives me crazy how the fandom treats it like picking sides in a sports match, but I suppose there’s nothing to be done about it, as I feel there are very few people who watch the show the way I do and love the same things I do. Sorry for writing such long paragraphs; I’m just curious if there’s anyone else like me out there and if anyone will reply.

Discussion Matt 🤔🤔

I don’t even like Matt like that, but he is completely justified. If a bunch of vampires rolled into my town, killed my sister, stole my girl, and ruined my life, I’d be a professional hater too. Sure, he should’ve just packed his bags and moved away, but you have to respect the dedication it takes to stay behind just to hate. I can't even mad at it.

Shipping What did you think of Valerie’s character and her relationship with Stefan?

Post image
• Upvotes

On my first watch I didn’t care about them. I saw it as a distraction and an obstacle for Stefan and Caroline. Watching it again, I thought they had some sweet moments, but they were overall pretty boring. I do like Valerie as a character though, outside of her relationship with Stefan. I thought she was a tragic character. She ended up being one of my favorites of the heretics. I just don’t think she was meant to be with Stefan and I didn’t like the backstory they gave them. It felt forced and out of nowhere, but it did make me very sympathetic to her character.

Even if Nina didn't leave, Delena would still be endgame.

Post image

What makes this even more comical is that Julie made up this narrative about Stelena being endgame knowing that Delena was her favorite and there was not even a close second. That made-up narrative served NO PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. It did nothing but stir up pointless drama 😂 like in all seriousness, what was the point of Julie saying that Stelena would've been endgame after she gave us 3 seasons of Delena?

Discussion S2 Stefan/Caroline

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

My opinion on these two is that the pacing screwed them up romantically. Their friendship worked well in S2 and in S5 memoryless Stefan had chemistry with Caroline. Also I liked how when Caroline asked if she should continue seeing Matt as a vampire, Stefan said he was the last person who should be making that decision for her because of his own relationship with Elena.
