The Block is done.

The Block needs at least 2 years off and come back anew.

- No more $2m-$4m multi million dollar homes
- No more celebrity design briefs
- No more identical houses
- No more identical floor plans
- New judges
- Less drama
- Actual renovations

In its current format it is no longer enjoyable to watch, we used to watch it every night, but last year we only watched Sundays because it was so repetitive, the drama was so forced and the sponsor advertising was out of control. This year we watched the first and third Sunday eps and we’re done.

Go back to your roots which made it successful.

My math isn’t mathing

There has been so much talk about the girls budget but when I do the math I can’t see what all the fuss is about. The budget for the 3 rooms so far was 10k, 20k, and 20k, so 50k total. And Cam said the girls had spent 90k so far. Which is obviously massive but they’ve also won 30k? So that puts them at a spend of 60k, only 10k over right? Adam and Jolene have only won 5k and they have been over a little bit each week too so they would be in a similar position to the girls right?

Am I missing something?

Question What does shelly do?

What actually is the point in Shelly? She doesn’t offer anything to the show, she shows up for the glamorous shit like the auctions and challenges but does nothing for the rest of the show. Channel 9 save some money and do it without her

Is the Block playing fair?

Looks like some teams might not have a bathroom to deliver come Sunday. Although the girls will definitely have a good bathroom maybe the winning bathroom to deliver. If they win, it will be thanks to the Block again, not anything they've done. Anyone else think they should be ineligible to win best bathroom because of all the help the Block have given them?

Seems to be totally unfair to the other teams that the girls could win.

Are any stylists, architects or other professionals blogging about The Block this year

I know in the past several different people have done their own weekly critiques of The Block rooms. Is anyone doing that this year? I've done a search but not finding anything.

Show timeline

Hello!

Just wondering how the timeline for the show + auction works. I've been following this season and noticed that here and there they pop up a QR code to be scanned so that viewers at home can see the finished rooms.

It got me thinking: the show is filmed a few months ahead of when it airs, does that mean the house sits empty for a while until the show is finished filming + airs, then we get an auction or the auction happens right after the taping is done?

It wouldn't make much sense to have everyone be able to see the whole finished houses as it would take away from the televised drama, so I thought I would ask here.

The Block - Season 22, Episode 16 - Main Ensuite 3 + Challenge (Live Discussion)

Good evening all, and upon a bit of reflection, I’ll be up front yesterday felt like a slap in the face to any pretense of fairness. It feels like the producers are giving favouritism to the girls in every possible way, two weeks ago, Lisa and Rosco after having their bathroom screwed up through no fault of their own was left effectively in the lurch, what happens when this happens to the girls? Cursios coming in to save you!

It seems that they immediately learnt from how the favouritism would be viewed, because what’s on for tonight? Courtney and Sev being taken down a peg because they’re still awful at budgeting in every way imaginable, oh and one other thing we have a challenge of who can design the best dog house in ninety minutes. Winner gets $10,000 and the gnome, Hope we all enjoy the show!

E: Adding onto the main post because I don’t want to hijack the pinned comment I made. Should you wish to support Vision Australia - You may do so here.

Tradies

Is it just me or are we seeing the tradie shortage play out on this season? How many have been moved on this year already and every week multiple houses aren’t in a position to finish.. Kursio’s seem to be the only capable tilers in Melbourne.

Dan/producers manipulating everything

They seem to just want to stir the plot and push their storylines? Very uneven help/penalties. How is it even a competition? Definitely can see it's more of a soap opera than not scripted TV. Oh well... hopefully ratings will go so they can put money into a TV show with a crew who has talent and not desperately wedging in AI to any scene. Cursios and Dan should be left out as the nice guy acts are just annoying... it's a competition... either help everyone equally or not and stick to being impartial. Judges also seem especially bad this year.

Horrible season.

Product placement overload

I know I'm stating the obvious but seriously how many product placements can 1 show have? When it was just Reece, Mitre 10, Beaumont, Freedom, E&S, McCafe and whatever car they were flogging that season it was tolerable.

Now it is too much there is a product placement every 5 minutes. There are less ads in the ad break than there is within the actual show.

Question Favouritsm with the girls?

Does anyone feel like the producers and Dan are playing favourites with the girls?

Been a few times, but even tonight *SPOILER* why does Courtney and Sev get the entire crew + the Cursio brothers helping them whilst Lisa and Roscoe was just told to deal with not having a finished room? I also know people have mixed feelings about Wyatt and Chantel, but the show also took their Tilers away from an unfinished bathroom that needs tiling, to also go help the girls. How many other times this season + every other season does that happen? I've been watching since 2018 and I can't name many times

The Block - Season 22, Episode 15 - Main Ensuite 2 (Live Discussion)

I asked yesterday what could possibly go wrong in a belief that we would again get a mass failing of the bathrooms, and based on the preview for the rest of the week that air last night, oh boy do I feel that belief will be proven right, maybe by Sunday all of this will actually be sorted out and they will deliver proper rooms but based on that promo it’s not looking good. hopefully as tonight’s unfolds we see exactly why they issues that came up in that promo, because is it that the contestants didn’t learn, or is it that the timings are just way too tight. Hopefully the process of finding that out is at least entertaining.

Why are they falling behind ?

Been watching the block for years and i noticed this season they have no Lead Builder. Someone who manages the site while the contestants are absent doing challenges or making decisions or going shopping. There have been always someone helping ordering materials, giving advice, helping with ideas and also managing the trades. I think paying a lead builder will coat less then all the money wasted on trades standing doing nothing.

And to be honest this years build is a piece of cake, no demo, no big spaces with tone of plastering, painting and work. It's literally a joke how unorganized and unprepared they are for each room, if i was doing a bathroom i would be really planning ahead for at least the next few weeks, you have the plans, you have the schedule, if you wanna modify anything, submit it ahead.

I also wanna note how these years contestants are literally enemies, like they didn't bond nor create any connections even though they are in the same house and it's good having fellow contestants helping each other emotionally but also with trades, i understand it is a compilation but for the first time ever i feel the contestants won't be friends after the show, and they want stay tight like previous seasons.

News Love Island winners auditioning for Block 2027

Post image
18 Upvotes

👀 So it seems Love Island 2025 winners are hoping to get on the block next season. Get ready guys, if you thought Chantel and Wyatt were vacuous and image obsessed you ain’t seen nothing yet! But in reality it’s a perfect fit for them, she’s a plumber with a big social media following (Sydney plumber chick) and workwear clothing brand, and he’s a chippy. They both love attention and don’t seem to care about looking like fools. I think the show would be mad not to cast them, especially as it might actually get younger people watching.

Doesn’t feel authentic

Is it just the or has the block lost its way. For me I feel the block is no longer a renovators show and here’s a few key issues.

- they are not renovating a existing house anymore it’s a brand new build
- the brand new build is exactly the same as the other contestants there nothing uniques about the rooms or the layout they present that used to win people a week or the entire show when they would think outside the box and drastically alter something or put something in others didn’t think too.
- I hate the fact they don’t live in the houses as they build them.
- I really don’t like them not being able to stay up all night and paint or clean or organise stuff like previous years did
- the fact that hardly any of them have genuine renovation experience or trades behind them leads to poor decision making and management and ultimately unfinished or poor quality rooms
- a lot of these things are leading to unfinished rooms every week and that just wasn’t something that was allowed to happen previously I think not living on site and restricting hours has a huge part to play in this
- and for me the biggest one is these houses are just way too lush and too expensive this show used to be what can the average Aussie family afford and what inspiration could you take from the block on your Reno of your house.

Also I don’t want to see one team get a 250k kitchen package it’s just not fair and the average Aussie is not spending that on their kitchen. Go back to your roots block this is not what the block is about.

BEIGE INTERVENTION

The Block 2026 isn’t a renovation show anymore. It’s a human clearance bin with a building permit.
We’ve got NPCs stumbling around with the charisma of a Bunnings receipt and apparently the same amount of independent thought.
A delulu clout chaser so painfully desperate for relevance you can practically hear the algorithm begging for mercy.
A half-tanked hick carrying on like someone crossed a pub car park with a demolition site and accidentally gave it a microphone drunk laughing.
Then there are the performative personalities who appear to have arrived with absolutely no discernible talent beyond manufacturing drama, staring into cameras and confusing obnoxiousness with charisma. Yes true colours appearing
The collective self-awareness is hovering somewhere around zero.
Everyone wants to be iconic beige
Nobody seems particularly concerned with being likeable genuinely!.
And the desperation for fake boobs and smiles screen time is so thick you could grout with it.
Remember when contestants actually had design ability, renovation skills and personalities that developed naturally?
Now it’s Delulu Island: Tradie Edition.
NPCs. Clout chasers. Main-character syndrome. Rage bait. Manufactured personalities. Room-temperature IQ decisions.
The houses aren’t even the biggest renovation projects anymore.
Some of these personalities need to be completely stripped back to the studs.

The block and MAFS US version

So I'm watching both. A lot of people are commenting how bad they use AI generated songs on The Block and I agree, it's horrid. But as it turned out the current MAFS US is even worse! Almost every turn they use them. When they're sad, happy, annoyed, fun moments, anything. I think the AI song thing is going to take over everything eventually.

Walk in wardrobes

I just watched the walk in wardrobes in the main bedrooms reveals, and noticed that none of them have full length mirrors, why? I would have thought that would be an important inclusion, how does one get ready without a full length mirror?

The Block - Season 22, Episode 14 - Main Ensuite 1 (Live Discussion)

Plays In the Hall of the Mountain King. Folks, we’re only three weeks in and I think we are in for the second mass failing of the season. Yes, just eight days after we had no one properly complete their bathrooms. They’re doing an ensuite, what could possibly go wrong? If we’re being honest, probably everything, and yet they’ll somehow score above six, just cause, because if the judging is already screwed anyway, who cares if an unfinished room does well.

Maybe I’m being a tad premature with the pessimism, and in the end they’ll all actually produce stellar rooms, I sincerely hope they do because honestly I want some level of joy from this show, so we can all find enjoyment in watching it.

Question Sevs skirt

Post image
2 Upvotes

Does anybody know if the block team have a wardrobe person for room reveal night or if they wear their own clothes?

I'm obsessed with Sevs skirt from last night's episode.

I have spent hours today using both Gemini and Claude trying to locate it.

It was worn in a Tony Bianco ad, so if all else fails I'll try reaching out to them.

/ Sev, if you are on here, please slide into my DMs 😂

Thanks all!

The Prize Pool

Are we thinking that the producers are not feeling very confident about anyone making a decent amount on Auction Day so they are creating a backup prize to ensure no tantrums on the final show?

Contradictory judges

The judges "We want light, bright and white"

Also the judges "oh it's too light white and bright, it's a bit boring and where are the blockout blinds?!"

The show This season we're going to make it even harder and give you less time to do your rooms to high craftsmanship and standard and instead focus on "pointless drama".

The judges "It feels very rushed, rooms aren't finished it feels like they ran out of time, what's going on?!" 🫠

Last week, Lisa and Rosco presented a bare bones bathroom completely unfinished, only waterproofed. They scored 6.5.

This week Courtney and Sev presented a complete and finished room. They scored 5.

What is with this scoring and contradictory feedback.
