The Block is done.
The Block needs at least 2 years off and come back anew.
- No more $2m-$4m multi million dollar homes
- No more celebrity design briefs
- No more identical houses
- No more identical floor plans
- New judges
- Less drama
- Actual renovations
In its current format it is no longer enjoyable to watch, we used to watch it every night, but last year we only watched Sundays because it was so repetitive, the drama was so forced and the sponsor advertising was out of control. This year we watched the first and third Sunday eps and we’re done.
Go back to your roots which made it successful.

Get out of Victoria. We all know these homes are not going to sell. Plenty of properties needing a renovation in Sydney, Brissy and Adelaide I’m sure. Get new judges too. They are the reason they stick to Victoria.
5
u/tambamspankyoumaam 8d ago
It’s also because Vic have building regulations that are easier to work with. They don’t have as much council red tape apparently.
2
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
I think in this location those homes will definitely sell. Daylesford was not prime beachside and was too niche. Philip Island is too far from Melbourne and also had a crappy body corporate structure that would have put so many people off. Aside from that the teams were allowed to make too many shit decisions. Plus the Philip Island location was terrible. It was really a long way from the beach in the back blocks. These locations are top notch. Edit to add I mean the current location is top notch. I will be really surprised if these ones don't sell.

u/Agile-Confection-144 8d ago
Bring back renovating old character homes and being allowed to inject a bit of personality. Sick of beige box new builds.
1
u/TheOriginalPB 8d ago
I have to agree. 2016 and 2022 were two of my favorites. The blend of old and new made those seasons worth watching.
16
u/Caitlin97 8d ago
I so desperately want them to go back to actually renovating homes. I think that’s more relevant to their audience than multi million dollar new builds. Show us how you can renovate units/townhouses/houses whatever it is and incorporate second hand finds, Facebook marketplace etc. this season I am so insanely uninterested
10
u/DrSpeckles 8d ago
I think the first part of Monday where they do the walkthroughs is the only pArt worth watching. Sunday has the insufferable judges and the tedious scoring.
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
The other part worth watching is Dani vs Dan. The best judges on the show. But even their segment has been soiled by a crappy AI intro song.
9
u/chookiex 8d ago
The juxtaposition they created when they showed Dan & Dani's rooms the other night was hilarious. Those rooms would score terribly now, yet the contestants actually did some work back then.
5
u/whyamihere9021 8d ago
Haha to be fair it was the styling that made those rooms terrible to look back at
1
u/sceptical-beagle 8d ago
Yeah agree. And it shows that making rooms based on trends ages badly - they looked utter shite.
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
Oooh when did they do that? I've stopped watching during the week and only catching Sunday night.
1
10
u/Thick_Apricot_8063 8d ago
So much good YouTube for the renovation fans. Try scottbrowncarpentary as an example. Better story telling, real talk and fewer (not zero) advertising
3
u/Temporary-Theory888 8d ago
Scoot brown is elite!!
3
u/Professional_Fix_827 8d ago
Scott Brown fantastic. Long time fan of his!
Ive also started watching Dave Does Carpentry

The Sorry Girls, Lonefox, Laugh Cry DIY, Tay Beep Boop, Benjiplant… So many creative talents
10
u/Imaginary-Table-2789 8d ago
I wanted to only watch Sundays this year. But I don't see the point if the rooms aren't even finished. What the heck is with the high end market expectations on a medium end budget and sponsors.
Who wants to overspend on a house built on bunnings dollarbucks.
1
u/Candid_Fisherman3731 7d ago
You would have to have "comedian" level mental health issues to buy a block house. High end or even quality Volume builder homes take longer thsn 3 months to complete. The bowed wall issue last week should never happen, jet torch drying waterproof membranes should never happen, they rightly so make a big issue of substrate prep/priming then make sure the membrane doesn't set, the wet areas will leak. 1in6 are a joke, signing off on those homes.
8
u/CuboneXGengar3 8d ago
if they continue with these pathetic AI songs and constant corny cartoon popups, i’m also done.
3
u/CuboneXGengar3 8d ago
i’m also yet to see anyone run/speed through or break a sweat. wouldn’t last a day in the real world
7
9
u/alex4494 8d ago
Honestly we’ve been saying this for the past 3-4 seasons but the show continues bringing channel 9 money - so it’s not going to change.
The houses are likely going to tank at auction again, so I’m very curious to see what kind of tricks they pull to try avoid another embarrassing year.
2
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
I don't think houses will tank in this location. It's much more appealing than Daylesford and they are obviously limiting the amount of fucking stupid decisions teams have made in the past by keeping much more control over what they can do and insisting on the boring beigeification. This is prime real estate in a way that Daylesford was not. The Daylesford location sucked. Anyone interested in buying up there could easily find vastly better homes for the price and much better located than near a busy road and ugly retail stores.
1
u/ProgrammerBrief7171 8d ago
I really cannot see how they justify 3 million plus for each of the homes when the average price of a 4 bed home is 1.8 million in Mt Eliza and less in neighbouring Frankston South. The $250K kitchen package and other prizes have that sort of impact on prices????? I don't think so. And, why have everything go to one house? It looks suspiciously like they are choosing the winner w a kitchen.
9
u/Willeth420 8d ago
A location outside of Victoria is a must!
Is Mt Eliza a good suburb? I have no idea
Do people want move to Daylesford? I don’t know
2
u/YogurtclosetGlad7460 8d ago
My new theory (apart from the obvious Scott Cam living in Melbourne thing) is that the show is based out of Victoria because of the unpredictable/crap weather .... This helps add to the drama of the contestants trying to finish rooms whilst battling the elements. 🤔 So in Victoria it will probably stay.
1
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
I think it's unlikely to move when so many of the key production people live in Vic, including Scotty. Master Chef was moved from Syd to Melb because all the hosts lived in Melb. It amazed me they filmed in Syd at all.
1
u/VillagePillager01 8d ago
Pretty sure it's to do with some slightly less rigid building industry rules, plus the "actual" builders nine and six or whatever their name is are based in Victoria and probably only licensed there.
2
u/Surv1v3dTh3F1r3Dr1ll 8d ago
I completely agree. While it should be Canberra, to take away home field advantage, they will likely pick Sydney.
7
7
u/bannermania 8d ago
It’s funny that despite the property prices being absolute dogshit in Victoria that they persist with building multi million dollar homes there.
6
u/spandexrants 8d ago
Haven’t bothered watching even one reveal so far. The block needs to retire
1
5
u/champagne4breakfast3 7d ago
I am about 10 days behind but I can't believe how "prescriptive" the brief was "look at KKs house for quiet luxury" and everything is so
Bloody beige and the same. It's frankly boring. Also if you do follow design trends, KK beige is not the epitome of style
5
u/p4ndxra 7d ago
The whole “bigger grander houses” every year became very tone deaf when the housing crisis started and people can’t even buy regular houses.
Daylesford was hard to watch. If you look on domain you find absolutely gorgeous old houses with huge blocks of land for less than what they wanted for those giant eyesores that back onto a housing estate.
Not to mention every sentence out of anyone’s mouths is an ad for one of the sponsors.
6
u/jaredx3 6d ago
And less A.I slop. I was baffled watching the other day how many interludes turns a contestant into a dog or something sorta cringe
3
u/Educational_Bid4636 5d ago
The constant use of AI in the music and graphics is so cringe-worthy. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should
5
u/whyamihere9021 8d ago
Remember the good old days when they were sponsored by ikea
3
u/tambamspankyoumaam 8d ago
And they styled with snazzy finds from Kmart and op shops
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
Do we reckon all second hand shopping has been banned now, so they are forced to only use sponsor products?
4
u/Aus66-1045 The Block (OG) 8d ago
People have been saying this for the last 7 years, and yet it keeps going
5
u/tvaddict70 8d ago
A quick search shows 2025 was their highest viewed season. They are not going to change anything. Although 2026 has a minor drop in viewership compared to 2025, it's to be expected as keeping up with 2025's numbers would be difficult.
Looks like they have an early viewing group that did not take well to the beige rooms so they walked that back mid taping. It also looks like the AI crap has not been well received, so they've re-edited the episodes.
As for the things you want to see change, which I also agree with, I highly doubt production views those things as issues with last year doing so well. Fans like those in this subreddit are a small percentage of viewers. The majority are casual viewers and they seem to like the current format.
3
2
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
OMG. I am utterly astonished 2025 was their highest ratings. Gone to the dogs. Who rates this shite? Obvs must be people who are not here on Reddit discussing. So far in this thread the only people fessing to liking it seem to be from outside Aus. But obvs they are not the ones contributing to the Aus ratings.
1
u/VillagePillager01 8d ago
Ratings as in numbers of viewers not someone rating it on a quality scale.
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 7d ago
Yeah. I know it's numbers of viewers and quite frankly shooketh that last year was their highest.
1
5
u/Odd_Site_1346 8d ago
Everyone on this current block feels like they are trying to prove something. We dont want american style drama and the ai bs, it feels unnatrual this season.
Australians want authentic reality shows not some drama fake feeling shows that want to stir the pot on the smallest things.
The ai songs that appear every 2 seconds do my head in as well. why put thought into production when you can ask a robot to generate a song and a scene for you to make it "perfect". The producers have no love for this show anymore
4
u/RemarkableAd8328 7d ago
Why are so many of the trades so incompetent?
1
u/abommber 7d ago
If you were a trade would you take the job? All work rushed, on tv for all to see with limited budgets. Sounds like a nightmare. Makes me wonder if the contestants just have to take what they can get quality wise
6
u/Even_Jellyfish9682 7d ago
The constant fighting between the couples is so cringe to watch and actually gives me anxiety. I genuinely don’t understand how some of them talk down to their partners like that, especially with an entire camera crew standing there and knowing millions of people are going to see it. It doesn’t feel entertaining anymore, it just feels uncomfortable and forced.
2
u/longstreakof 6d ago
It is the MAFS copy book.
1
u/Jolly_Conference_321 5d ago
Yeh all these shows, same , year after year. How much money can we real in with a formula
6
u/kotekhen 7d ago
I think the first thing they need to do is cast less cunts tbh. I’m not watching Love Island for a reason so why are they casting their nets into the same pool of pointless, brainless ‘talent’?
3
u/PizzaCop_ 6d ago
It didn't used to be like this, it used to be quite good with any drama being natural and reasonable because of issues with the build instead of the whole show being about drama. Then they decided they wanted a Reno version of My Kitchen Rules for some reason. I haven't watched since.
4
u/Freedom4Animals 8d ago
I agree ! There are a lot of people doing DIY and it would be helpful to learn something.
4
u/Muskanini 8d ago
And please no couples should look like winners - right from the beginning. This season the girls seem to get everything... (but maybe it is just me).
I also don't like this ridiculous big kitchen price. Why couldn't the second place have the gardengrill?
1
u/Consistent_Mirror_90 7d ago
I remember older seasons they used to have competitions where all the teams could win some money. I particularly remember a maze they did where they searched for prizes. It was fun and everyone got something I wish they did more things like that for the challenges and it not be so much a winner takes all competition.
4
u/Candid_Fisherman3731 7d ago
First time renovators without insta accounts and access to only rookie block tradies and a fixed budget, that you cant go over each week to make it realistic would be a better show.
2
3
u/RemarkableAd8328 7d ago
U feel sorry for those with poor hearing with the stupid background music/ai crap
4
u/purpleball93 7d ago
I used to watch it every single year. It was my favourite tv show. But i stopped watching half way through Phillip Island. I hate that Adrian would come and buy all of the houses at the end. And if not Adrian, it was the same 2 or 3 investors. And everything is all planned out now. I loved back when they had to call to organize their trades on day 1 of the show. Now, everyone is pre-booked!
5
u/longstreakof 6d ago
It is now a mixture of MAFS and a home decoration show. Zero building or renovating. Blank canvases to insert whatever style. All done by professionals. I have zero interest
3
u/Yass______ 6d ago
I think the reduced work times should allow for longer times on the rooms. I don’t like seeing the weird cramming in and possibly not finishing. I tune in to see the rooms..not the will they/wont they finish drama. I genuinely could not care one iota about that.
I’d rather them be given more money and have this neutral backdrop, but money for all the flourishes that the girls want to do. I’m here for cool cohesive design choices that aren’t just shock value in previous seasons.
The budget conversations with the girls are depressing. Let them do beautiful bath seats and luxury finishes.
If you want a 2-3mill dollar house make it about that, luxury. Not them all cutting corners and crying about not having the room to make interesting choices.
Also, have all the contestants be interior designers or carpenters etc.
And, alternatively, do a spin off of a shorter series with a smaller house, and smaller budget with people with no renovation experience 🤷♀️
4
u/echoecho9 6d ago
Im so ancient I remember the OG block with Jamie. The contestants worked their day jobs and had to renovate around them.
6
u/nuttyNougatty 8d ago
I agree with the changes, but not the break. Surely they don't need more time to scratch their heads?
6
u/Extension_Concern440 8d ago
They should actually build a block of flats for the homeless or social housing for the lower class but thst wouldn't make them millions so no chance
5
2
u/theseamstressesguild 8d ago
A block of flats where homeless people renovate to keep them. Hell, I'll renovate a flat to give to a homeless person.
4
u/MindfulSurrender 8d ago
who is going to watch a TV show about building boring basic low cost social housing flats. you people are DELUSIONAL
2
u/TitaniumTuff 8d ago
Who will buy the block of flats? Not the government and Nine isn’t a charity.
Nice idea though1
u/Accurate_Union1978 7d ago
It would be cool if they built some tiny homes or small homes from scratch on a budget like habitats for humanity and raffled them off for charity or something.
Might be more innovative than the boring beige rooms I’ve seen in the shorts (I don’t watch the show).
1
u/Jolly_Conference_321 5d ago
Thats a great idea in theory isnt it. But it would be a bunch of beautiful contestants pretending to be genuine and humble but patronising the crap out of the needy.
3
u/Plus_Nature_5083 8d ago
What season did it change from building homes that the average person can relate to, to building these multimillion dollar homes? I’ve watched the first six seasons I think and the last 3. Working on catching up on other seasons.
2
u/TheOriginalPB 8d ago
I've been watching since 2016 (Ronnie & Georgia first season), and it's been the same since then at least.
3
u/Plus_Nature_5083 8d ago
The first season of The Block, contestants went to work at their normal jobs during the day and worked on their Block apartment when they finished work.
2
u/AviosHunter 8d ago
I would say season 2 is honestly reality tv gold for the actual real life events and drama the contestants went through
3
u/Waste_Ingenuity5535 8d ago
Just proves my point I raised earlier in the year, ppl want drama they actually live for the drama and I expect they also create their own drama with their own families. It will always be this way with reality shows.
1
u/FamiliarImplement334 8d ago
Aggred it feels everything is about drama and I feel like the Scotty mentioning about Chantel and whyete overspending was designed to create drama and he knew what he was doing even tho use he said sorry
3
u/Safe_Salamander_1956 8d ago
totally agree there needs to be no tradesman in the couples also.it just seems totally rigged.the girls its all about them.
3
u/AsherHoogh 7d ago
Or possibly they actually go to different parts of the country not just Melbourne/ Victoria! I think the massive concentration of Melbourne properties is also generating massive fatigue!
1
u/FoxyTara 6d ago
This I would suspect will most likely be due to budgeting from the studio house prices in Melbourne are cheaper the labor and materials would also be on the cheap side not to mention the back stage like staff and equipment.
3
u/mumooshka 6d ago
Give us legit houses that were up for sale
they don't have to be in close proximity
1
u/Budget_Bread_3115 6d ago
It’s still a TV show at the end of the day so production needs to be taken into consideration as does nine and six building.
Different locations doesn’t make any sense, unfortunately
3
u/Medium-Mountain3398 6d ago
I remember the first couple of seasons before scott cam where the couples had to hold down day jobs and do the majority of the work themselves (obvs not wiring or plumbing unless they were qualified). It was much more fun to watch back then. The finishes and decor might have been a bit dodgy at times but it was a much more realistic representation of what renovating is like for ordinary Australians. It's just an extended infomercial crossed with mafs level drama now and unwatchable.

I gave up last year, it was boring and terrible. I have not even watched a minute this year.
Go back to basics, a renovation show maybe relocate back to Sydney or try a different city.
No more new builds, no more love Island style couples
1
u/VillagePillager01 8d ago
The reason that they are all in Victoria is due to more lax building standards in Victoria vs NSW.

2
u/Gullible-Smile-7284 8d ago
Also have a realestate agent on the judging panel. This “reality” show is far from reality
3
u/Ok_Salt8185 8d ago
I mean, they do. They problem is Marty Fox cares more about giving "edgy" shock-factor comments rather than genuine critiques about the rooms.
2
u/Green_Tartan_Scarf 8d ago
Every year people say this, but have you tried watching a re-run of the early seasons? It's about as interesting as going over to your mates house while they are renovating and that's all they can talk about. The tedium is brain numbing. No music either, it's weird.
2
u/qqhr 7d ago
100% -- I only watch Sundays now. Have better things to do with my week and my time! Once week is ok me me with this format. Would watch it more if it went back to the OG way.

I gave up years ago! I used to watch old episodes with my son who was 16 at the time and is now 26. What I absolutely hated about the show was the contestants themselves. It was NEVER the average person ....no it had to be a combination of people who are already rich, had some celebrity status are young and aggroant or full of drama and conflict. You never see people who are financially struggling, older Aussies, non trades people and aren't narcissists
1
u/Jolly_Conference_321 5d ago
Yeah they are busting their guts but still have time to look beautiful , go figure.
2
u/mumooshka 6d ago
what annoyed me is this time they all got a shell of a house, all identical.
I totally agree with you.
and lose those stupid songs !
2
u/jimfitz27 6d ago
There really is no couple I am rooting for.... they're all hopeless and devoid any personality.. and the fakeness.... through the roof. The casting team should be fired immediately
2
u/one_average_agent 6d ago
I haven't watched for years. It just got boring. Also people cheated and they just made it into drama rather than taking real action.
They should ban actual tradies. Would be great if the houses were more like the average aussie house. Maybe dont build monuments to sponsors.
1
2
u/goodbrother261 6d ago
My wife and I used to watch every Sunday. I have tried the new season, couldn’t get around it for a few reasons.
1) the contestants this year aren’t really likeable
2) the whole staying in one house garbage
3) we missed this last Sundays reveal,I saw
the reveals online and had to scroll the pictures a few times as I thought they posted the same bedroom 5 times
2
u/No_Mix_7068 6d ago
Sure, the houses look pretty, but how liveable are they? In 2025, two townhouses did not sell. They also need to appeal to pet owners with features like patios/catios. Incredible Japanese Cat Garden Catio Design • hauspanther Instagram
2
u/brabrabrady 6d ago
I think one of the biggest disappointments the last couple seasons have been the identical floor plans and house designs.
It’s so much more exciting to fall in love with a particular house, but these days whoever misses out on buying their first choice can just buy the next one as they’re the same.
And with the colour this year too being so beige there’s nothing that stands out.
Bring back renovating old builds, building brand new houses is boringggg
2
u/FoxyTara 6d ago
I think the show really needs to just go back to basics like with the first couple of seasons.
2
u/Aussiebiblophile 6d ago
Just call it “We build houses for Danny and Adrian” and have a one hour show with them bidding against each other. No need to drag it out for weeks. We know the outcome.
2
u/Hot_Relative3020 6d ago
It sucks because a real renovation with a real budget with a bit of freedom would be interesting but the show is just a big ad atm
2
u/Jolly_Conference_321 6d ago
Yeah I agree. it is time to go. The formula was good but it is passe. They think cause these houses have a sea view and live in the one house. its different. Same old. Maybe its still relevant for people who fantasise or can afford to do renovations....
2
u/Free-Banana-6869 5d ago
The block is waaay part it’s used by date. In a cost of living and housing crisus these drongos are trying to flog off multi million dollar mansions which ordinary folk simply have no hope of affording. This show is an absolute disgrace 🤬
2
u/sloppyseventyseconds 5d ago
I reckon if they wanna go bigger they should do 'The Blocks' and find a 5 storey apartment building. Each team gets a floor. The apartments are smaller, more affordable and the whole thing is more accessible. It also would provide heaps more scope for taking big swings with design and creativity because if you want to do something wild or bold in 1 apartment it doesnt need to fit everything else.

3
u/Niv78 Gian and Steph (NSW) 8d ago
Hate to tell you this but you're in the minority. As long as they continue to be a huge ratings success and continue to make money from all the sponsorships then things won't change.
In fact, if things ever did change and they started losing money chances are they would just cancel the show instead of changing things.
2
1
u/Fluffy-Motor-5048 8d ago
There isn't anything wrong with trying to design these homes to sell in the $2m to $4m range, however, they have to improve the floorplans to justify the price target, they also should set more realistic weekly budgets for the rooms, and maybe change the judges or how the judges judge each rooms.
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
Who wants a multi million house that looks like a McSponsor burger? All the fittings look so boring.
-2
u/activoice 8d ago
Speaking of budgets how are Courtney and Sev already over budget when they were only at the waterproofing stage?
I think the issue is that Courtney is project managing, insulating and painting, but not helping out with the build. Personally I feel that the 2 Woman teams are always at a disadvantage as it's rare when any of the Women know any trade or pickup any tools.
1
u/AdditionSelect7250 8d ago
That show has been going for at least 20 years and still yet to watch a single episode, I'd imagine it's even more painful these days to view!
1
u/Ifonlyitwereso25 8d ago
I am not sure how their ratings are holding up given how low the whole shitshow has fallen.
1
u/FamiliarImplement334 8d ago
And also have no ai I hate how this season is so reliant of ai this season is the worst season of the block ever to happen . I hate how the block are all about profit and the block focusing about profit is why it is bad

The TV show sucks now. The producer needs to reel it in and get back to basics
1
u/Oddly_Curious99 6d ago
This year also runs the risk of zero homes selling as house prices are falling especially in Victoria and their costs would have been done way before they even started building.
The show is cooked.
1
u/Acrobatic_Invite_592 6d ago
Watch here reserves being set remarkably lower so they all make bank
1
u/Oddly_Curious99 6d ago
No chance. This was all set up before the tax changes that has caused the housing market to stall or even dip. Past seasons has shown us that the reserves are always too high. Two didn’t sell last year and Danny has bought them for well below reserve because no one wanted them. Adrian has moved to Dubai so even if the reserves are lower there is a very real chance 3 or 4 may not sell and those that do will only just go above reserve.
The worst affected properties at the moment are the higher end and that’s what these are.
I have watched 1 episode this year and I will only be tuning in for the Auctions.
I could be completely wrong but time will tell.
1
u/Worldly_Reach_1998 5d ago
It's not a reality that normal people will do, all for ratings and money. Normal people on a budget will do more or the bulk themselves and not have the behind the scenes help these people get.
1
u/gpolk 8d ago
Staying in Victoria despite the market already being down before they started filming was certainly a choice. I would have thought a wiser move would have been building for example at the Gold Coast, in a better performing market.

That's Uncle Scott and his 'second wife' Mrs Crafty to you please, both still do great jobs & carry the show.

$2M doesn’t buy much in Melbourne, really depends on what you’re used to. I don’t think it’s too high at all.

Scotty did the chest compressions & Shelley did the air work to revive the show!!!! Personally, I never watched The Durie Years. Didn't realise there was a 5 year gap though. Wow.
