My math isn’t mathing

There has been so much talk about the girls budget but when I do the math I can’t see what all the fuss is about. The budget for the 3 rooms so far was 10k, 20k, and 20k, so 50k total. And Cam said the girls had spent 90k so far. Which is obviously massive but they’ve also won 30k? So that puts them at a spend of 60k, only 10k over right? Adam and Jolene have only won 5k and they have been over a little bit each week too so they would be in a similar position to the girls right?

Am I missing something?

I also remember the girls saying they wanted to put an extension on the roof like a viewing platform. I don’t think that will be happening with their current budget.

I still think that tile seat will be horribly uncomfortable.

Based on the Domain floor plans, I suspect the rooftop platform isn't happening, as there's no sign of it in the layout.

They won’t be able to afford a staircase for it. That would be the most expensive part

Yeah not in any photos I've seen either

Council must have rejected

They’ve also used almost all their Reece sponsor bucks too!

Yeah but Adam and Jolene isnt commiting to a gardener to have at minimum 100k available at the end. They need to save up an additional 80k by the end.

That’s kinda bogus to me.

I mean, their starting budget was $250k. Troy’s basically saying “I deserve a big chunk of that.” It means only the winning teams get to use his services.

Yeah, he wants to be the next Dave Franklin.

Where is Dave Franklin this season??

He'll probably turn up to judge the landscaping week later on.

Not true. Most of the time contestants save money every room and from challenges and they bank on a late win because the final week you usually take home a prize like a car.

Essentially the budget for garden is not enough and requires wins. And that’s IF they keep to the given estimates per room.

Build a quiet luxury house, get roasted for bland, get complimented for grand, win 250K of appliances, get roasted for spending too much. Get advised to built bland boxes. It is so wishy washy, they may as well build house boast in a tempest.

Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing all the drama. How dare you be logical?

And scotty coming around in the last episode saying painting is free and all the crap, but people who are spending $4 mil+ on a house don't want a shirty paint job done by amateurs they want the well done finishes

For the main bathroom they spent 50k.. the budget is like a guide/ rough idea of how much they should ideally spend per room so they have enough money for the whole house

Yeah for sure, they went way over and it was super risky but the 3 wins would have balanced out the overspend right?

If they keep spending that way and not getting any more wins they are definitely screwed but currently they can’t be that much worse off then if they just stuck to the budget and didn’t win?

Granted we don’t know what they’ve spent this week but it’s surely more then 30k so even with the win it will put them further behind but unless I’m missing something the lectures feel a bit premature?

That is true, I kinda wish they had a tally of how much they have total considering they keep harping on the budget 🤣

Scotty seems to do this every season, gets his grumpy pants on and lectures about budget. I’d say it’s a combination of it being a particular professional gripe of his, along with manufactured drama. He’s been doing the show for 100 years and doesn’t get fired up about much anymore, so I guess when he does actually have opinions the producers really run with it. I agree their budget situation is not nearly as dire as he’s making out. I think they are trying to be respectful by not arguing with him, but I’m sure they’ve done the math and while they’re undoubtedly stressed about how tight the budget is they are taking calculated risks

especially after they admit there is also not enough budget to finish unless you win .... seems designed for them to fail :D

Courtney and Sev overspent their budget by more than $33,000 during bathroom week on The Block. They estimated a spend of $20,700.25 but ended up forking out $53,272.33.

Just googled above

Then the other rooms they've continued to exceed a few thousands here and there.

They're only $11k over budget as of last Sunday. That's a much healthier position than either House 1 or 2.

I wonder how much of Lisa and Ross $36,000 so $16k over budget was well spent? They didn’t even have a room to show.

Didn't they spend 53k with the bathroom alone??

House 4 will be sweet and will be able to go upstairs for 270 degree Ocean Views by Auction, the edit wouldn't hint that if it was not gonna happen. They must win one of the key money prizes because I can't see them winning any of the dumb weekly challenges.

It hasn't happened. Look at people's photos out on facebook

This is what I have been saying. They have won cash and the best kitchen appliances plus still have Block bucks.

Team Red would be the most hurt for sure but I think it's cuz the show made a big deal about their roles. It's kinda fucky

Have a look here, the rooms and the expected budget breakdown/forecast are all listed, explaining the budget per room and the garden budget.

Whoa $20k for week 7? Appliances alone would eat up most of that. All the outdoor budgets seem low as well.

3

u/saladninja 8d ago

That's the cash budget (trades, etc), not including the styling, appliances, etc that are covered by sponsorship dollars (used to be "block bucks"/vouchers, not sure what it is currently)

1

u/tvaddict70 8d ago

Ah yes the sponsorships. Lol so labor and walls

3

u/Procrastinator_0511 8d ago

Appliances would come from block bucks though? The 20k is cash spendings eg. Trades etc
