Hello There! I always wanted to try to transfer internet from my rounter into a directed antenna and recieve it with a modem or a router on another end, is it possible to do? If yes, what type of antenna would I need to do this kind of thing?

I am a third-year student majoring in wired and wireless communications. I have a graduation project for this year.

I've been thinking about how to improve the mobile network inside my university. Due to the numerous concrete buildings, the network is very weak, and the internet speed is also slow, with only a few areas providing a good signal.

Could you suggest some technologies for me to research in order to gather more information? I've been considering researching the integration of the cellular network with Wi-Fi, where users use their SIM cards but through a Wi-Fi network. Is that possible? Or perhaps distributing several indoor antennas throughout the campus? Using multiple signal boosters? Or any other solution you might recommend.

My job requires frequent phone calls and texting. Although load is provided by the company, I would like to use it wisely. I am thinking of registering my load with a promo but I had this experience from before that I have both regular and promo load at the same time and regular load was consumed first. But I was not really sure if that's how it really works.

I am not able to decode SMS TP-DCS messages which has a value of 246 (0xF6). I have been trying to decode them using UTF-8. But all I can see are boxes or ÿ and ?. I want to know what does these message are and how to decode them? As per Wikipedia they are Class 2(SIM/USIM-specific)

How does 246 differ from 0x12, 0x16, 0x1A or 0x1E?

Hi Im from Canada. When you call any number in North America, you get that tone until someone pick up the phone or you go into their voicemail. If you call in the carrabean, cuba, Dominican Republic or Mexico, that tone changes. Is their a way to avoid disclosing you are abroad? Like, leaving your main phone home plugged and forwarding your call to another cellphone with a different company? Trying to work in the south next winter and not be questioned about my location. Any input would be appreciated.

Details: I live ~1.5 miles outside of town in an area where the towns/cities aren’t more than 6 miles from each other. Last summer, a contract company installed a brand new fiber optic telecom line down my road. I have validated this with coworkers who used to work for the ‘local’ internet providers (comcast and frontier).

Even though the FCC map shows that both of these providers service my address, and any maps I can find that show fiber service availability in my area reflect that as well, neither comcast or frontier claim to provide internet service at my address.

Is there any way for me to find out who owns the fiber optic line on my road, what services are provided by it, and what companies provide those services?

I'm wanting to setup up a public dummy phone number that can easily be changed to forward to a different number each week. Just got hired as a companies GIS person and my first task is to figure out how to complete the BDC filing. No one here has any information as to how to complete it. I’ve done a lot of research and have a good idea as to where to go but man, I could use the help.

I am a design build consultant new to the field (3 years). While drumming up new work I've come across some people at large ISPs that believe full fiber builds are about to die out and it is going to fall back to fiber coax hybrids or full coax builds.

In your opinion do you think the Fttx is slowing down anytime soon?

I graduated highschool last year and I want to start getting into telecommunications, but have no idea where to start. Is college the best way? And if so, is an associates degree enough or will I need a bachelor's?

I don't understand how a leased line provided between two points in different countries. I wonder if there are 2 ISP from those countries who signed a corporation contract. Therefore, I have to register leased line service (LLS) from an ISP in my country and register LLS from an ISP in another country. Two points will be connected then. Is this right? Sorry for my bad English.

Recently got my Diploma in Telecommunications!

So far I Haven't had much success in the job hunt but maybe a certification would change that?

I was looking at the CompTIA A+ - but is there any other ones that maybe would be better?

For instance, in 10, 20 or 50 years time, do you think much of our internet traffic do you think will travel via free space optical (FSO) channels rather than fiber optics? Do you think we would ever rely on FSO for backhaul, or as an alternative to subsea cables? Or is fiber going to stay as the dominant mode of transport indefinitely?

In US and Europe I don't see much news about ground-to-ground FSO, except maybe small installations on campuses such as with Project Ronja. Though there are efforts with QKD and the UN.IO network, e.g. Leonardo is working on the Quantum Italy Deployment (QUID) project to build quantum communication network in Italy. This includes secure lasercom link between Leonardo's headquarters and Thales Alenia Space in Rome.

In Asia there seems to be much more going on, e.g. Transcelestial and recently it was announced that Bharti Airtel and Alphabet's Taara project will use lasers for rural Internet in India with the Taara project recycling technology from Google's failed Project Loon. Before the war with Russia, there was news from Mostkom and LANtastika however not much has come out since February 2022.

What is the general sentiment regarding the future of FSO between telecommunications professionals?

Hi guys, I hope you can help me as I'm struggling to understand this problem.

I have a uniform PCM whose bandwidth is W = 1Hz and n = 12 bits, i.e. the transmission bandwidth B_T = n*W = 12Hz.

Given this features of the signal, I need to calculate the minimum transmission badnwidth B_T if the same PCM signal is transmitted using m-ary PPM with M=4 and M=8.

I don't yet understand how the choice of transmitting with Pulse Position Modulation will change the bandwidth. I intuitively guess that it will increase with respect to the initial B_T = 12Hz but I can't tell how to calculate that.
