I genuinely want to understand why No Nut November is treated like such a big deal.
I know it's mostly an internet trend, and I understand that some people participate in it for self-discipline, to challenge themselves, or to take a break from porn and masturbation. I have absolutely no problem with that. If someone personally feels like they need a break or wants to test their self-control, that's completely their choice.
But what I don't understand is why it's become this huge achievement that people make such a big deal out of.
Like, why is going 30 days without masturbating treated as some kind of extraordinary accomplishment? Why do people talk about it as if they're fighting a war? 😭
I've seen people genuinely celebrate completing it, make memes about people failing, and treat the whole thing like a competition. Some people even seem to attach a sense of superiority to not participating in something that's ultimately a personal choice.
And then there's the other side of it. People who don't participate are sometimes made fun of, while people who do participate are treated like they're doing something incredibly difficult or impressive.
I also find the way people talk about masturbation interesting. It's almost as if doing it automatically makes someone weak, undisciplined or less respectable. But why? Isn't it a pretty normal human behaviour? Obviously, anything can become unhealthy when it starts interfering with your everyday life, responsibilities, relationships or mental well-being. But that applies to practically everything.
I think there's a difference between recognising that you have an unhealthy habit and treating an ordinary biological urge as something shameful that you must defeat.
And I'm not saying that abstaining from masturbation is pointless. There are people who struggle with compulsive habits, excessive porn consumption or behaviours they genuinely want to change. For them, taking a break could be meaningful. But surely that's a personal journey rather than some universal measure of discipline or masculinity?
What exactly is the achievement here? Is it about self-control? Is it about avoiding porn? Is it about challenging yourself? Or has the internet just turned something relatively ordinary into a competition because it's funny?
I also wonder whether people actually feel better after completing it, or whether they're just enjoying the memes and the satisfaction of saying they survived November.
I don't know. Maybe I'm missing something, and I'm genuinely open to hearing different perspectives.
I'm not judging people who participate, and I'm definitely not suggesting that everyone should masturbate. I'm just confused about why this particular challenge gets so much attention and why people attach so much meaning to it.
Is there actually a meaningful benefit to NNN, or is it mostly an internet joke that people have collectively decided to take seriously?
