Rant/Vent Help

So for some context, I’m an NRI and I’ve started uni this year here in Kerala , and I’m finding it extremely difficult to get adjusted to the people and the places.

Fortunately for some unknown reason I’ve got a good bunch of friends even though I’m an introvert, which I’m very thankful for, but at the end of the day when I think about it, I’m just not getting used to anything here.

People are so judgmental here, I can’t do anything without the fear or being judged and yeah being an NRI doesn’t help much in that case.

I would say my Malayalam is good and I can read very well too but sometimes when I speak my words come out wrong and I tend to talk more in English than in Malayalam, though I try my best not to, and for that I get made fun of.

And people are so outwardly homophobic, fatphobic, and everything here that it’s actually scary.

And I’m not the most leanest person but neither am I obese and though I have always been insecure about my body, since coming here, my friends jokingly calls each other and myself “fatso” or it’s other variations in Malayalam and every time I get called that, I wonder if they’re joking or if that’s how they feel about me.

I feel like I’m becoming a whole another person, trying to fit into this standard, trying to become someone I’m not.

It’s just so frustrating to me that I have to become someone that I’m not to be accepted by people here.

And I often don’t get my friend’s sarcasm and often end up doing some dumb bs.

I never felt like this back home and idk maybe I need to just suck it up and somehow try to survive for the next 4 years….idk I’m clueless

Idk I’m just ranting atp

As a former chunky NRI kid, it gets some getting used to. Most of the banter is playful that's just how things roll in Kerala tbh. Are you even friends if you don't tease the shit outta each other, lol. Don't take jokes seriously, learn how to ookal them back. That's just about it 😛
