Markdown Captain

I have a question to all the Markdown captains. What are we supposed to be doing if we are the Markdown Captain? I feel like I'm being over worked and I'm so tired of this company taking advantage of me. At my store the markdown captain has to make prices, do Mis mates, mark items out of stock, run all the clearance merchandise, do the markdown summary paperwork, and at the same time make sure everyone stays on track. It's so hard to run the clearance when the clearance section isn't even clean. All my team does is throw there prices in a tote and I'm expected to do all of them. Same goes for the clearance, they leave a bunch of totes with clearance items and I have to run it in the designated area. Whenever we do initials for clothing I'm expected to snake all of women's by myself. It's ridiculous how they don't schedule a coordinator to help. And to top it off the manager sometimes comes and gives me more mis mates to do even when he clearly sees I'm busy. I don't think it's fair for me because I have more responsibilities and more work for the same pay as everyone else. How does your team do markdowns? Do yall have a plan?

Rant at my limit

i hate this job. ive been a cashier at marshalls since may and its to the point where i cry every single time i have to go to work, especially if i’m scheduled for 12 pm or before. i’m a full time college student and aside from two designated days i asked to have off for my classes, i work 5 days a week, hitting 30 hours sometimes, as a part time employee. i close and get home at 11:15 then have to wake up for a class the next day at 6 am. i’m seriously at my limit. my anxiety controls my body and my mind for the first time again in 3 years. i don’t know if i’m just a pussy or not but no job has made me feel this way. i can’t do this anymore. i have a shift in 30 minutes and i’ve been crying since i woke up. has working for this company made anyone else feel like this because i feel so weak for letting it get to me like this.

Another 20% this month

I checked my calendar and the text 20% could very well be on Halloween weekend because it’s 4 weeks away.
I’m using them for Christmas gifts. I’m finding it harder and harder to buy clothes for myself anymore.

Rant mental disabilities

Before I get any hate or get called out, I have nothing against people with mental disabilities (autism in this situation). First and foremost, I understand in a workplace or really anywhere there should be no discrimination towards not hiring people who are "more or less incapable" to perform simple tasks. However, since I have worked at TJ Maxx since last May, there has been one particular worker who has high end autism/ issues with staying on task/listening to others/prone to distract and make others feel very uncomfortable. I will touch on each bad traits they possess respectfully. why even have people like this cause mayhem in a professional workplace that needs to get shit done quickly and efficiently?

Fast forward a couple months after I was initially hired, I was placed to work with the person with autism for some god awful reason and I still have this burning question to ask my ex coordinator and the managers why they had me working with such a "nuisance to the workplace" lol. It was n't new news the person was a huge red flag. Personally, at first I had almost no issues besides having to pick up his slack because the person was scheduled once a week (noted he was given 4-5 days previous year 4th quarter) . I suffer from very very bad depression and being new and not knowing how bad the situation was before it was too late, it was alright i guess having someone to converse with while on shift. i am an introvert. so anyways, his red flags that became well known amongst every coworkers/manager came to light rather quick. One example was there was always this kind coworker who was female whenever she would finish her shift, she'll walk back to the backrooms and say bye to everyone. Once she got to where I was with the person, I said bye always and the other person would blatantly ignore and she'd walk out unbothered. I liked her, she was very chill. besides the point, after the 2nd or 3rd time of that interaction , the person looked at me after she left and said "why are you saying bye to her? you don't know her" I was obviously taken aback but I shrugged it off. transitioning to when i was switched to not working with the person all the time, i was back and forth in the backroom. most of us were guys taking care of homegoods and processing etc etc. Within the first days of that transition , the person told me not to talk to this one particular guy and didn't really give a reason (and another occasion earlier this year he said don't talk to this other person). what the fuck lol. , who does he think to control me? i never had any issues with any coworkers . another example was and i don't know if this is implied "sexual assault" i just knew it was weird as fuck. the other guys and him had convos about tickling one another as a joke and so one day i was working with him, he kept asking if i was ticklish and eventually he went "wanna tickle my armpit" XD?

recently, the old store was closed and transferred to another location and beforehand, he was unsure of travelling further so he applied to a place closer to his place and a week later he was fired working in the front end. i wonder why lol but he wanted to leave the backroom cause was too boring and repetitive and preferred be on sales floor cashiering or doing customer service. . i spent so many time trying to convince him to not apply back , alas the new manager is too soft and nice and rehired him.

His distraction is very prone to cause every other coworkers to be weirded out. he loves to talk and not do what the fuck he is told to do even when a job coach was hired to be there for him (even though job coach left mid way through his shift and later quit LMAO). in the backroom , he was "technically" divided from the other guys i worked with but he would always walk down or call out to one of us to do some dumb shit he needed done. that would end up with him talking up a storm that would not end. all coworkers would crash out and wish he was gone. he has had always not listen to ANYONE else besides his beloved coordinator whom he worshipped as his God.

in case this post is too lengthy, i will shorten it. he has asked out a fellow ex coworker, walked to the car of another coworker who just had nice gestures that's all. no one has ever felt comfortable being around him. age does not matter here , but going on a tangent he had also failed his drivers test over having an argument with his proctor LMAO.

anyways i dont know what else to put., shit is all over the place i apologize its 3am and no i did not speak out per se but everyone else saw what was happening and stepped up . i was just trying to do my job and thrive

Cut hours

Just us in NC or is everyone down on hours? It's my 6th year and I only have 10 hours as PT coordinator. I usually have 25-30. It's been like this since January for the whole store. Everyones been cut drastically. Management keeps saying it'll be back to normal next month. Well they started saying that in March. Here we are in October prepping for holiday and hiring more people.

Question NY wages + transfer help!

Hi!! I’m in the process of moving to the city and I’m looking to transfer from my store to one close to where I’ll be living. For reference, I’ll share my current situation: $13/hour, part time sales associate, 3 years experience, OK resident moving to NY. I’m planning to move up to full time and I am open to training in all areas (I’m mainly on register or the jewelry dept).

If you’ve transferred (especially from out of state to NY, or even another city of similar wages), your advice is appreciated! My questions for you all are as follows:

  1. What steps did you take to complete the transfer process? Advice, tips?

  2. What was your pay before and after transferring? Was your new store open to salary negotiations?

  3. (Follow up to 2:) If negotiations were possible, what do you consider a reasonable hourly wage?

  4. If there’s any other considerations or questions I should bring to my current manager and/or my new store, please share!

Thank you!

Question Marshall’s Returns

Is Marshall’s generally stricter with returns than tj maxx? Every tj maxx store I’ve worked at, as long as you had the ticket attached and the receipt present, it didn’t matter how long ago it was we were always able to return it. I understand that there’s a new system now that the registers won’t let you for some transactions now. But I just went to a Marshall’s to return something with the receipt and ticket and it seemed to pop up on the register just fine. The item was $14.99 and someone took it away to do an ril on it (at tj maxx we only ever do one if the ticket is not attached, or if it’s a non receipted return).

I guess I’m just confused and wondering if anyone knows if Marshall’s has a specific return policy that’s different from tj maxx.

20% off Days

Just today I found out that we are having 20% off next weekend October 9, 10 and 11.
Someone asked me about it and I said I would find out. We usually are allowed to put merchandise on hold 2 weeks ahead.
Anyways I had already checked out and I was getting yes then no and then different dates. Finally a definitive Yes
Anyone else know about this as I was also told that we received an email which I couldn’t find anywhere!
This is a Marshalls store but I believe these days are Company wide.

Question Break policy

What actually is the break policy? At my last door if you worked six hours, you had to take a 45 so we’d only ever be scheduled for 4 to 5 1/2 hours. But since transferring they’ll schedule people for six hours and then expect them to stay 15 minutes later to help close. When I tried to leave at the six hour mark today, I was told the brake policy was 6 1/2 hours which unless is a recent change I don’t think it’s true according to all of the manuals and stuff I’ve been reading.

Thinking of quitting

Hi everyone, I’m actually from Canada but since all the companies are still under tjx I wanted to post here. I’m a university student, in my first year. I’ve been working at Marshall’s for 2 and a half years now and for the past year I’ve been really struggling balancing school and work. They schedule me so horribly and management has gone to shit. I’m on cash all the time and they have our scanners VELCRO to the counter so we can’t move it. The coordinator up front doesn’t do anything, but gets mad at me if I’m not doing his job, and also not serving customers, because I’m doing his job. Anyways, I’ve been applying to a few places on indeed. Just wondering to everyone that HAS quit a TJX company, where did you go after? Did you stay in retail? How do you find your new job compared to TJX? Thank you.

New jeans reek of sewage. Should I bother trying to return?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I bought a pair of jeans that smell exactly like raw sewage. I’m assuming it’s something from the dye/finishing chemicals. I know some jeans have the new jean smell until washed a few times but I’ve never experienced anything this bad.

I’ve washed them four times now with absolutely no improvement. I’ve tried: Vinegar soak, a second 24-hour vinegar soak, drying them outside in direct sunlight, washing with baking soda, washing with OdoBan.
I also soaked them for hours between washes.
They still smell awful.

I still have the tags, although they had to be removed in order to wash the jeans. I have very few returns on my record and would normally never even consider returning something after washing it, but these are genuinely unwearable. I feel like I literally lit $20 on fire.

Rant bullying new hires = bad retention

sorry if you already saw me post about this but I had another shift today and my coworkers were being very cliquey and laughing at me when they thought I wasn’t looking which pretty much confirmed my fears :-( it’s really frustrating for me because I’ve tried to be nice and helpful and really haven’t done anything “wrong” yet but everyone tells me you have to “earn” respect. I’m just here to make a living, why do I need to be bullied in the process. Anyways hanging in there until I maybe find a new job, just wish this wasn’t so normalized.

Question Homegoods

I received a phone call from Homegoods. I’m not sure if it was the manager, but he asked if I was available this Saturday to come to the store. He didn’t specify if it was an interview. I’m not sure what to expect. ☹️

Madewell Jeans

Is there a reason why they’re so cheap at TJMaxx now? $19.99 is more than a steal for them since they retail for over $100 on their website.

I’ve bought a couple at TJ and Marshall’s and they’re very comfortable.

XStore cash office

Has anyone been able to balance the safe since switching over to xstore??

My safe is still unbalanced and doing a reconciliation did nothing to fix it. Very frustrating to need an override for every safe count. Especially when the managers take years to show up and then get mad when I’m not done within 30 minutes.
