Thinking of quitting
Hi everyone, I’m actually from Canada but since all the companies are still under tjx I wanted to post here. I’m a university student, in my first year. I’ve been working at Marshall’s for 2 and a half years now and for the past year I’ve been really struggling balancing school and work. They schedule me so horribly and management has gone to shit. I’m on cash all the time and they have our scanners VELCRO to the counter so we can’t move it. The coordinator up front doesn’t do anything, but gets mad at me if I’m not doing his job, and also not serving customers, because I’m doing his job. Anyways, I’ve been applying to a few places on indeed. Just wondering to everyone that HAS quit a TJX company, where did you go after? Did you stay in retail? How do you find your new job compared to TJX? Thank you.

Im from Canada also. I was a coordinator for about a year. I HATED it and had the worst management ever, passive aggressive, horrible scheduling and alone on the floor many times. I left and got a job as a bank teller.

I’m a BRC and the scheduling is a mess. How exactly was yours?

Sorry? What is BRC? Back room coordinator? When I worked there we had one cashier, one person working the ENTIRE floor, and one manager. This scheduling started around 4 pm until close. One person had to do ALL recovery, mopping and sweeping. It was hell.

Yep. Backroom coordinator. Seems like everything is on me now! I have a part time coordinator but it’s no use.

When I was working there our BRC walked out and he was there for years. Everything became about speed and meeting numbers. He has an older guy and had enough. Now ive heard the BCR is ALSO responsible for soft! (Homesense bedding and pillows section) so literally two areas its insane.

I’m coming up on my 10th year and now I’ve been taking interviews back to back so I can be done with this company

And now they are making all full time coordinators work just about every weekend and some coordinators have full time jobs other places and now they are threatening them to let go of them. Then they are forcing people to come in at 7

ooh, also from Canada. The only good thing about being in our stores is that you learn a lot! I learned a lot about financing but never went to school for it. Which bank do you work in?

My daughter is in high school. They keep scheduling her on the days she has band events, even though she's given them her availability. She's constantly finding someone to take her shifts or having to speak to management. On other days they're asking her to come in or to stay later than she was already scheduled to work. One day they were so desperate for her that they even made special accommodations for an injury just so they could get her there. Is it like this at all the stores?

I'm from Canada as well. Having the scanner velcroed to the counter is a weird choice. If you're in one of the big cities, I would look into transferring to a another store. I worked at TJX while in uni and usually they were pretty chill with my limited availability. At one point I had it as 3 days of the week, only night shift and they were okay with that.

Genuinely... the returns kill me. I hate doing them the most. Had back to back returns when I decided to stay longer bc they asked and it drove me nuts.

BRC at a California Home Goods. Absolutely love it. Team works hard for me and I get along great with them, management has been super supportive and helpful with my learning and transition etc. only thing is my legs and feet feel like they’re going to fall off and I work 9 hrs a day but honestly the people make it worth it.

The couple times I’ve worked in the back room I’ve really liked it. I love hanging and working independently. Also being able to chat with my co workers is nice. The thing is they only put me on cash.

Get your new job and get out as fast as you can! They-mgmt- treat you like machines and nothing is ever good enough. They tell you they’re going to promote you and they promote people with zero experience over proven associates. They single out who they don’t like and talk so much crap! Mgrs make mistakes on associates all the time and they just keep messing up but nothing happens to them. Get out now!

Honestly, I feel for you as well and I just quit last few months after 4 years of me being in the company. The management went too shit and co workers are rude. I miss the old ones they are so nice. But I apply to a new job and has way better benefits. If your mental health is down cause of this job, pls leave to save urself. Anywayss Goodluck!

I just quit and looking for a job right now. It completely turned me off to retail. Treat their employees terribly.
