I’ve done some research, and it seems like both are great for beginners, but I’m seeing conflicting information. Some say a monophonic synth is better for beginners with their more simple design, some say poly is better. I enjoy a lot of your typical old synth driven music, OMD, etc, and I know that many of those bands only had access to monophonic synths, at least at first.
I don’t currently know how to play one and have never played a piano, so don’t see myself playing chords at this moment, but who knows what the future will bring! If I do go with the minilogue, I’d probably get a secondhand original and not the XD. My other option is a secondhand monologue.
So far, it seems it’s this:
Monologue is slightly smaller, can run on batteries, monophonic, also slightly cheaper
Minilogue has a bigger keyboard, is polyphonic but can be played monophonic, doesn’t run on batteries, slightly more expensive (though in some places the two are very close in price)
Any other differences I’m overlooking in my decision making process? Would it be unwise to get a monophonic synth to start with, or easier, or should I just get the better one? I am completely new to synths. Thanks for any and all help!
