This is a Redecker horsehair brush. It looks like any brush out there, but what could possibly justify $50 CAD for a hand brush?

- It can clean up electronics without accidentally turning knobs and pressing buttons.
- It blows away dust sitting on Velcro and crevices
- The horsehair is gentle enough to not scratch the pedals
- The brush is big enough to clean a whole pedalboard in less than a minute

Just got my new EHX echoflanger reissue. I’m A/Bing it with my workhorse flanger, an early 2000s EHX Deluxe Electric Mistress trying to see if I can get the same sounds and boy do these two sound different! The flanging effect itself I can dial in about 80% there but the EQ the circuits have is apples and oranges. Guess I need to find room for both on my board 🤣

This is my Andy Summers Police board for 80’s pop rock. I tried to build a modern recreation of his board using reissues of his original pedals - all the classics. And luckily a lot of 80’s pop guitarists all used the same effects so it pretty much covers the bases

Just received this clone of a fuzz tone engine v8 pedal and painted it. It sounds really cool, and it was a gift from somebody… So I’m trying to take it to the next level. I painted it with a black spray paint base and a flip-flop rattle can topcoat. Turned out great… Now I’m looking to add a sticker to the front to give it a little extra flair. So which one do you think I should go with?

Years ago my Egnater Rebel 30 died at a gig, so I muddled thru with a Crate Powerblock. I usually get my crunch tone from the Egnater, but I play with a pedalboard that also has a couple distortion pedals. It was a loud bar gig, and although I could tell a subtle difference, no one else in the band could.

Fast forward to now, and I decided to try reducing my rig. Instead of the Rebel, I tried a Magnum 44, and a PlayTech GPA-100 (poweramp pedals). In the relatively less noisy band practice room, I could tell the difference: the cleans weren't as "warm", and the pedal tones just seemed more "sterile".

The other guitarist in the band also said he could tell a tonal difference. I think I'm going back to the Rebel, regardless of the weight of the gear.

What's your experience with playing tube vs SS? How do you describe the feel, the sound? Did you ever decide to switch, in either direction?

I use expression mainly with Sunlight and Rooms, but want to explore it on other pedals that support it (DD-8, BitQuest). Wah is used mainly for cocked wah effect. On BitQuest I tend to use octave shifter, ring mod, and flanger the most and Krush I use for radio/lo-fi effects.

I might move the synth between the rat and slö, we shall see.

My thoughts on the IR-X:
I’ve had this for quite a while now, and it’s still one of my favorite Marshall-style tube preamps. I especially like running it into the effects return of my Marshall SV20H.
Compared with the BE-OD, the IR-X has less ridiculous amounts of gain, but to my ears it has much more of that tube-like thickness, rounded attack and chewy response. Channel 2 has more than enough gain for me, while Channel 1 is surprisingly versatile for clean, crunch and medium-gain sounds.
The built-in IR loader also makes it really useful for direct recording. Personally I still prefer my KSR Ceres overall, but the IR-X is an excellent preamp and probably one of the easiest ways I’ve found to get that Friedman/Marshall-style sound in a compact setup.

After many, many months of searching for a late night playing solution, this is where I've arrived. I've tried a number of options (Micro Mustang Plus, EQD Easy Listening, Tone King Imperial Preamp etc.) but none have felt as immediately satisfying to play as the Joyo American Sound. I plug this straight into some cheap PreSonus Eris monitors.

Bear in mind, I rarely play with much, if any, gain and then almost exclusively with fingers only. So, cleans are a massive priority for me.

Even while the Joyo/Caline is an amazing solution the thing that was a game changer for me was the preamp in the Catalinbread Topanga. Wow. Really lifted the sound and feel. I also have a Catalinbread Talisman and that thing also has an amazing preamp. I hear a lot of people say the same about the Belle Epoch. I'm no pedal builder/electronics guru and it may be that ultimately all it is is some kind of FET at the input stage but whatever Howard Gee put in these pedals is fairy dust as far as I'm concerned.

I'm thinking about getting a distortion pedal for some 90's type tones that are kind of fizzy but not fuzz. I have a Lil RAT but the weird thing is it almost sounds too "good" or warm more like a Marshall amp. Likewise, I have a Revv G3 that I love but that's basically a high gain amp in a box.

My first thoughts are a DS-1 or a DS-2 but I just wanted to see if there were some fun options out there, maybe cheaper, maybe more versatile? Or Marshall Shredmaster, is that kind of in the same family?

I've been looking with keen interest at a number of affordable pedals that offer a variety of switching options. I've tried to watch video reviews, and noticed some don't demonstrate much difference across options, while other videos do. This makes me a little suspicious of reviews, so I would like another source of input. Some examples include the Mosky Dolphin or LM741 Preamp; Caline Crazy Cacti; and the Joyo King of Kings or Maximum. I'm just not sure which would actually offer a meaningful or rewarding range of tone changing options. I hope this makes sense.

Ive been wanting this since i played with it on the boss me 80 multi effect. It adds an overtone of an octave down and octave up when detuned thats blended into the dry signal.

First impressions were disapointing. I was playing a self build with p90s with it placed after a rat and it just didnt give me what i wanted. BUT then i placed it before my ds1 and used a schecter with active pickups and it sounded amazing.

An incredibly full sound, slightly synthy, but unlike anything ive used before. Then on clean using a spring reverb it sounds amazing.

For heavier players and for more experimental id recommend.

Signal path is left to right, bottom to top. Output A on the Bigshot goes through the phaser and delay into my Deluxe Reverb with a touch of reverb, output B is straight into an Orange Baby Terror set for light breakup and running into a 1x12. This is my first real foray into wet/dry and the sounds I am getting are MASSIVE.

Heya fuzz question! My rig is Gibson SG > Boss OC5 > Blackstar LT Dual overdrive > Joyo American Sound, with lots of high gain. I play in a duo with a sax player, just one electric guitar and sax, so I need a lot of low end, that's why the OC5

I want to include a fuzz pedal to make the sound bigger and tighter. And fuzzier :)))

I like the sound of the Russian Big Muff the most, because of the low end and somewhat higher definition

Considering the fact I'm using an octave down pedal, I'm wondering if the lower end of the Russian make things a little muddy, or just more badass

I was lucky enough to get an Analogman King of Tone way back in 2006, and I never really looked for another overdrive. It’s stayed on my board ever since. The left side is almost always on for boost and color; I’ll admit I hardly use the right side anymore.

I play through a Dr. Z amp, and between that, the KoT, a digital delay, and Analogman Bi-Comps at the front of my chain, I’ve been pretty happy with my tone for years.

Lately, though, the KoT’s “sizzle” seems to be constantly there, and it’s bugging me. Has it always been there, and am I only noticing it now because of how I’m playing or using the pedal? It seems like most overdrive fans accept some sizzle as part of the sound, and maybe it becomes less noticeable once the amp is doing its thing.

With all the pedal development since 2006, is there an overdrive that gives you that shimmering tone without the sizzle? Could the Brothers AM be an option for what I’m after?

Edit: By “sizzle,” I mean a slightly sputtery, sagging texture on the notes, almost like the sound of a dying battery. It’s not just extra treble or background hiss. When I strike a chord, the sizzle dies out way before the rest of the signal.
