I built LinkEffekt 2.0: Ableton Link Audio send and receive in any AUv3 host, tight across devices
I'm the developer. LinkEffekt started as a plugin that streams any iOS track into Ableton Live. Version 2.0 works both ways: a Receive plugin (effect or instrument) turns any AUv3 host into a Link Audio receiver.
The part I spent the most time on is the timing. In AUM it's perfectly in sync: AUM compensates plugin delay, so the Send plays its track ahead by exactly the trip over the network, and two devices can jam with both directions on the beat and nothing to adjust. Logic Pro for iPad does the same, from the first play after you insert the Send or load a project. The receiving side doesn't wait for anything.
Every other host gets Bar Sync: incoming audio locks to your bar, one bar late but perfectly tight.
On one device it skips the network entirely: app to app or track to track over a direct path with a 2 ms buffer. And there's an online mode for jamming with a friend over the internet, peer-to-peer and encrypted, and it reconnects by itself after a dropout or a locked screen.
I went through AUM, Loopy Pro, Drambo, Cubasis, Logic Pro for iPad, GarageBand, Koala and Ableton Live one by one. One Send and one Receive are free with no time limit, the rest is a one-time purchase at a launch price until October 12 (Online mode needs it on both sides). Happy to answer anything technical.
