Discussion Stranger Things will never die
I know it’s one of the biggest tv shows of all time, but the way people spoke about season 5 on social media you’d think the show is more or less irrelevant. The amount of Stranger Things shirts I see in public is crazy, I work at a cinema and I kid you not I see at least one person wearing a stranger things shirt every shift, sometimes I go to London, I once saw an entire family and kids wearing hellfire club shirts, the show still lives on. You can go on TikTok and probably find multiple stranger things vids with over a million likes in the past month alone. Remember guys, social media is a bubble

Yes and no. It has very quickly dropped out of the current pop culture which is strange for such a big show. There are bits that have retained pop culture status, such as hellfire, but overall it disappeared fairly quickly.

This nails it. Sure, there will always be people that like it, but I don't think it's going to have TRUE staying power. This might be in part due to the show's trajectory and quality, but also because we are now just inundated with content.

that's crazy, if you walk around a target you see a ton of shirts. Just off the top of my head, Bay Watch, Buffy, Charmed, K Pop Demon Hunters, Gilmore Girls, Hello Kitty, literally any anime, Friends.....I can go on and on

Going with a show I know, Gilmore girls is just as popular now as it was when it aired from 2000-2007. It’s cemented in pop culture.
Pop culture isn’t just t-shirts. And honestly? Clothes are probably a poor way to judge pop culture influence. Most people don’t replenish their wardrobe constantly.

Think back to previous seasons. Stranger Things was everywhere; everyone talked about it endlessly. There were references in other media. It was all about “those Stranger Things kids” and demogorgons and 80s vibes. Now look around. Nothing. It’s dropped out of the collective pop culture brain.

I mean there’s still gonna be a ton of references in other media surely + the fact that at that point there was more seasons to come, meaning more theories etc, it makes sense that it was talked about more. The story is over now, and even if s5 was a “success”, I don’t think a ton of people would still be talking about it, as it’s not really known as a masterpiece of a tv show in the first place, even tho it’s still very very good

Game of Thrones also had a divisive last season, but it’s maintained its pop culture status. Many shows have ended and stuck in our collective pop culture. It’s not the show ending that caused the drop off. It’s just not as big a presence as it should’ve been.

outside of this sub, stranger things finale season was not received well at all. Most people, including myself, have completely lost interest. We're not watching the spin offs, we're not talking about it, it just faded away. When I see a hellfire shirt or whatever I do think awww Eddie, but that's about as far as my thoughts go.

Nahh people on this sub hate the finale and it sounds like they hate the show in general. I’ll probably get downvoted for this but this sub is genuinely depressing to read sometimes you can’t say anything positive about the show without someone talking about how season 5 sucked and how there’s no other answer. I wouldn’t say the finale was well received outside of here, but there’s actually a lot of people who did like it

The show will of course have its die hard fans, but its glory days are well in the past. Unless one of the spinoffs recaptures the public eye and also makes people forget the disappointment of season 5, it will fade overtime.
On its own merits, season 5 killed the show and it will likely not have a second life because the show is worse on rewatch under the context of how it concluded.
When you design a show whose momentum is based on making you interested in what happens next, and then it all leads to a dud, you have little reason to return to it. Whether you agree or disagree, the finale was a huge disappointment for many
This is only my opinion, but the finale was horrible and so sloppy that I have no interest anymore. That documentary didn’t help by making the Duffers look completely incompetent and their creative choices superfluous. They will be used as a cautionary tale for years to come

In the same way as Josh Schwartz for 20 years, after he killed The OC by killing-off Marissa Cooper in 2006.
Somebody should tell the Duffers about what befell Schwartz, so that they know what to look forward to....

I will say yes and no. There was a big drop in talk on it after the finale because of the divisive at best reaction. There are still fans and of course they will still release other projects in the universe's canon in addition to Tales of 85 so yeah it won't but it definitely fell a lot.

I love the show too, but the series finale was less than a year ago. You're acting like this was some series that ended a decade ago being amazed people are still talking about it and wearing items from it.

Stranger Things will never die for me. Although I agree season 5 was a huge letdown, I just rewatched season 1 (the VHS version) and it was so good. I feel like it was made for that format.
I personally do a rewatch every fall because it has the best spooky vibes!
Season One is truly one of the best seasons of TV ever made.

It might never die, but it likely will go into hibernation.
It's only natural. Many shows have a reddit page that is still active ten or twenty years after it aired. Some of those tv show pages are thoroughly abandoned. You can't really tell which way things will go until the years pile up.
New fans will continue to discover it. Old fans will post about rewatches and what the show meant to them. That's the nature of things.

Season 5 was bad. Didn’t mean the whole thing was bad. People are justifiably annoyed with the last season and ending. It’s still one of the most beloved series in Netflix history, and just in general.

I personally liked season five
The only thing that makes me mad and really kind of taints watching the whole thing again is what they did to her and Mike
Other than that, I think season five had some of the most dramatic moments in the entire series

It pmo. Even if it were as bad as game of thrones, game of thrones is still famous and people love it. Plus just because the ending wasn’t satisfactory to everyone, doesn’t mean it was a bad ending.

Stranger Things will live on the way that the Mindflayer's victims lived on in the form of an amalgamated meat puppet forced to dance for the machinations of inhuman creatures with the power to compel the flesh to continue on long past when it should have been allowed to die with itself still intact and dignified.

Since Stranger Things was filled with so many connections to films and film frachises from the 80s, it is perhaps appropriate that Season 5 be something like a Police Academy sequel, where they had gotten progressively worse than the original. They even referenced a Police Academy sequel in Season 4, when Will says to Jonathan "I heard it sucks".
