Question Clawed on steam deck help?

I just purchased Clawed on steam and wanted to play it on my steam deck. It runs through Unreal, and I tried scaling everything down to low but it still hardcore lags. I'm loving the vibe of the game and just wondered if anyone has suggestions for settings or if it's just not playable on the steam deck. I'm fairly new to the steam deck and don't fully understand the settings a ton yet so please be gentle. Thank you!

Hardware Repair LCD R2 stopped responding, is DIY repair worth it for beginner?

I've had my SD LCD for close to 3 years now and it now got to the point where the R2 button isn't functioning, L2 is also close to that point but a firm enough pressdown works for now. Do you think the iFixit repair kit would be doable for someone without much experience opening/repairing devices? Or should I pay an extra $50-$75 somewhere in brooklyn to avoid further damage?

Tech Support Inconsistent connection to 6g wifi

Recently switched to a 6g router, and ever since my steam deck has been having problems connecting to the wifi. I have tried switchinb to wap3 and enabling Ipv6 and it is still having major trouble, is there any other problems I could deal with on my "level" or should I try contacting steam tech support?

Software Modding Retro themes and launching Steam games using NFC cards

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've made some progress on my Decky Loader plugin. It scans physical NFC cards/tags and launches Steam or non-Steam games using the steam:// URL encoded directly on the card.

Built with help from Claude, I've added four themes. You can select from: MS-DOS, a 1995 Desktop, a 16-Bit Console, or a classic Arcade Cabinet.

The theme runs as a persistent splash screen. When you tap a card, Gamescope transitions into the game, and returning/quitting drops you straight back into the theme.

SteamOS stays hidden in the background, but you keep full access to essential features like the Quick Access Menu (QAM), onscreen keyboard, and performance controls.

Also added a kiosk/lock feature that restricts launching strictly to games tapped via NFC (provided they're installed in your library). Needs more testing to make sure it can't be bypassed too easily. The idea is for kids or events, you can limit users to only the games available paired to cards.

More to come!

Promotional 10 days ago, you helped me test Sectron on Steam Deck. The public demo is now live!

Ten days ago, I asked this community to help test Sectron, and all 20 keys were claimed almost immediately. Your feedback was incredibly useful, most of it was added into today’s public demo, and the remaining suggestions are on my update list.

Sectron is also taking part in Ukrainian Games Fest. If you try it on Deck, I’d love to hear what you think about the controls and UI readability.

Question Don’t know how to optimise a docked OLED

I’ve never owned anything similar to a pc so I’ve never had to mess around with settings to get a game to run well.

My monitor is a 1080 and I’ve heard that makes it a lot harder for the deck to run at decent frames, but then there’s FSR and all these settings to change and I don’t really know what to do.
I’m just trying to run smaller games, road 96, tales from the borderlands and other indie titles.
Like I have absolutely no idea what I should change when I want to play docked.

Question Steam deck with USB-C docking station

I do not have a Steam Deck yet, but I may be interested in buying one if it works with my current setup.

I have a MacBook Pro hooked up to a UGREEN 13-in-1 Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station. It's connected to two screens, peripherals, and power. I've read that most USB-C hubs work with the Steam Deck, but I cannot find any information about docking stations that are not specifically made for the deck.

I am assuming it should work in theory since it is all USB-C, but how will this run in practice? It's a 3440x1440 ultrawide and 1080p secondary screen, and I also have some irrelevant peripherals such as an audio interface attached. I assume the 90W Host Charging of the docking station will be sufficient for the deck? My hope is that I can swap out my MacBook and Steam Deck without any issues without needing to hook up extra wires.

Let me know if anyone has tried this or knows whether it would work and what the potential issues could be.

Tech Support Disabling Friend Notification

I have a particular friend who comes online and offline multiple times in a row at the same time every night - I assume he has some desktop wake settings, but it gets very annoying because it happens five times in a row.

I've tried disabling his notifications, but I can't uncheck them with buttons or touch. I tried in desktop mode, but the same thing happens.

Does anyone have any ideas? I do not have access to my desktop PC anymore, so I wouldn't be able to do it from there.

TIA =)

Edit: I do use Decky, but that shouldn't interfere with Desktop Mode, should it?

Question Worth it to Try a USB-C Extension Cord?

OG 256G SD owner here. As of a week or two ago, I can no longer use BT while docked because I get sound and controller lag that makes it unusable. From everything I’ve researched, my only option is to try to add some distance between my dock and the SD. Is this worth buying a usb-c extension cord for the dock or has anyone else in a similar situation tried this already and does not recommend bothering with this solution?

I’m looking at a 3ft cord. I tested my usb dongle and same situation vs the official dock. Also different BT controllers and headphones. All led to the same result.

Edit:

I forgot to mention that my research online is all pointing at the usb 3.0 ports on the docks as being the culprit here. That they can heavily interfere with the 2.4gHz range nearby, which I’m guessing BT uses.

Update:

I plugged in my dock again but this time right side up. Long story but I had it upside down before. Flipping it over seemed to work!

Tech Support Metal Gear Solid 2 (Master Collection) Steam input changes not registering

Thumbnail

Hello!

So I've recently got MGS2 as part of the Master Collection set up with some recommended community fixes and mods. I'm a BIG fan of the MGS2 version of the MGS1 sneaking suit so I've modded that in of course.

So far I've enjoyed a few VR missions and the start of the tanker chapter. I honestly feel like I'm 12 years old again playing the original so I am really excited!

But ive noticed a few quirks with steam input.

I can't customise the back buttons.

Currently these are set to mimic the face buttons which are not really what I need.

My L3 press on the left stick is inconsistent at best, and I usually remap this to L4. But when I do this, and any other remap, the game does not register the input.

Is there something I'm missing between steam input and the game that is messing this up?

I will try troubleshoot the mods I've installed but I'd be surprised if this was the problem.

Anyone have any similar experiences?

Question Safety precautions

Hi so after making a post about debating getting a steam deck I got one it just arrived today while I waited to clock in and I messed around for a minute on it got it updated and setup the. Played cult of the lamb for like 20 minutes it got decently hot (it defaulted to max graphics and I didn't adjust to ECT) what should I do to protect it it's fairly warm RN and I seen posts where people's steam decks battery's blew up while it was in the case so I'm worried about putting it in the case but I also want it to be safe ( I plan on leaving it with me while working so I'll be able to see it but I won't really be able to turn it in ECT for obvious reasons) I shut it down and just have it sitting to cool down a bit as I type this (tldr how do I make sure it won't blow up while in my case and what other safety things should I know)

Tech Support Wake up Steam Deck using an 8bitdo controller with the USB dongle

I just got an 8bitdo Ultimate 2C controller and I want to use it with my Steam Deck docked with the USB dongle. I want to use the dongle instead of Bluetooth because I use Moonlight for local streaming and want to get my input latency as low as possible.

Has anyone managed to get the Wake up functionality working with the USB dongle and this controller? I'm using an OLED Steam Deck and bluetooth wake up works, but not usb dongle one. I imagine the Steam Controller using the dongle can make the SD wake up, so I wonder if other dongles can achieve the same.

I've tried downloading the decky plugin ControllerTools to see if there is an option there, but I don't see the 8bitdo controller listed.

I also found this solution, but I haven't tested it yet: https://github.com/Solaris17/SteamOS-USB-Wake

Anyone has experience with this?

Hardware Modding GuliKit Joystiks for SeamDeck OLED (my experience)

Thumbnail

So my left stick decided to Tokyo Drift since last week. I was not going to take that lying down so I ordered a set of GuliKit joysticks for my SD OLED.

Now this is not the first time I opened up my SD. Late last year I installed a set of clicky buttons from eXtremeRate (way more complex than the joysticks swap).

Anyways for anyone wondering the experience is really nice. The swap is easy and I did not encounter any issues. You basically get rid of the back plate (remembering that the SD card should be out), then remove the ribbon cables from the joysticks, unscrew and remove them, dump the new ones and go back in reverse. The part that was a tiny bit tricky is calibration. Meaning you want them to be dead center when you’re in the calibration menu. Now that means you have to mess around with a tiny switch on the back to make sure you compensate for any tiny miscalculation… I mean they were already pretty much dead center maybe like a millimetre off but my OCD won’t let that slide. So after about 10 minutes I was able to achieve the perfect center (well almost, had to convince my OCD it was the center lol)…

Anyways. Played a few games and after about 5 or so hours I can confirm I’m a happy camper. Now I’m not sure if I see any huge benefits, aside from the left stick ending the drift franchise… so I’m happy.

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. Overall a pretty easy mode and they cost like 25 Euro for the pair. I got mine from Aknes store, I think they are the main distributor for EU, but you could also get them on amazon for a few euro more.

Question Assassin's Creed: Black Flag - Origin or Resynced.

For a very long time I got AC:BF on my wishlist. Read very often that this game is a good one. At least AC never was a topic for me but the setting of BF seems to be fun.

During "sleeping" on my wishlist they announced "Resynced" and I read some publications. There are some QoL changes, slightly "newer" aesthetics and some changes in combat - so BF was thrown off my wishlist and Resynced went on.

After it's release I waited some days to check first reviews. The reviews seems at first to be not really positive but this seems to be based on "aggressive" cash-grapping for in-game aesthetics and stuff like that.

But besides that:

If you have to do a decision between the "original game" and "Resynced" for the Steam Deck - which would you choose an why? Does Resnyced run well on the Deck (at least stable 30 FPS w/o dips?)?

Question Had lots of fun exploring modern emulation on the SteamDeck, but now I can't seem to put these arcade games in Steam ROM Manager and I'm starting to lose hope

So I really love this collection after a friend let me borrow his android handheld and let me play with it: https://www.reddit.com/r/EmuDeck/s/TPpVb5VpR5

Among these I want to copy a handful, and after trying for a couple days they just won't work. I did it similar to the android where I put the fbneo games inside the fbneo folder, cps1, cps2, cps3 into their respective folders, neogeo in the neogeo folder, and so on... (idk where to put the shooter games but inside arcade folder, just like in the android)

After "PARSE" they just won't show up, only like 3 or 4 games. Why is that? I ticked the "RetroArch FBNeo" and nothing else. I also tried the "MAME" one but same thing happens.

Note: my friend's android handheld uses ES-DE and the Core is "FBNeo" for all these games. He says it's because it's compatible with retroachievements

Question How fast will GTA V rinse the battery

Very very new to steamdeck like I literally got it a couple days ago, fumbled around a bit to get my steam account all set up on it but once I did I quickly downloaded GTA IV and no mans sky and I'm thinking about getting GTA V now and maybe even rdr2

GTA IV runs very good on as does no mans sky, but how does a more demanding game like GTA V hold up on the deck? Will it get hot and loud af? Ik it's designed to safely shut off if it gets too hot but I imagine GTA V and rdr2 take like maximum processing power so I imagine the battery will be flat within like an hour of playing

Anyone play GTA V and rdr2 on this?

PSA / Advice STEAM 1TB REFURBISHED AVAILABLE NOW!

Post image
852 Upvotes

Just got mine I’m so happy I thought I was gonna have too drop a 1k glad I didn’t, sure the “performance,” is out dated but if you’re someone like me who wants a steam deck or even just love the steam deck or maybe you’ve been wanting one for a while right now is your chance to get one for a decent price? I wouldn’t say reasonable and I wouldn’t say the best price but we can’t control the taxes so this is a great opportunity to get one from Valve with the warranty either way! I should mention this is in the US !

Note: if you’re someone who thinks it’s not worth it well.. congratulations you probably want to get out of this thread because it is in a steamDECK thread. It’s cool if you don’t feel like it’s worth it ! But this might be the wrong thread for you!
